Review: Synchronic tells the story of two New Orleans paramedics and longtime best friends who are called to a series of bizarre and gruesome accidents. They put it down to the effects of a freaky new party drug but once things gets personal and one of the main character's daughters disappears, the weird truth is revealed. The soundtrack is a collaboration between Jimmy LaValle, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, and centres around a custom synth patch that, "replicates what the drug may sound like." Violinists, cellists, percussionists and pianist also join in to make this most unsettling of soundtracks.

Review: There is a spate of Ennio Morricone soundtracks being reissued at the moment but are any more iconic than those he made for the Exorcist? This one marked one of the cult artists first works on a big budget Hollywood production and rather than bow to commercialism Morricone actually turned in one of his most weird and wonderful works. Rolling Stone have placed in in their Top 35 Best ever Horror Scores and rightly so as it goes from dark and demented Satanic prog rock to beautiful moments of pure unease.

Review: Written by American author Shirley Jackson, the soundtrack to Netflix's hit horror series by The Newton Brothers is perfectly fitting. The plot centres around the decision to renovate an old house, but soon after work starts the family begin to experience increasing paranormal activity that results in a tragic loss and them fleeing the property. The music features complex ambient orchestral cues, melancholic pianos and haunting, ghostly, gothic references that are brilliantly unsettling but also beautiful.

  16. Wu-World Order (feat Wu-Tang Clan - version 1) (3:36)
Review: Following the release of Jim Jarmusch movie Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai in 1999, many hip-hop heads were keen for the RZA's immaculate soundtrack - his first movie score - to get a release. It did, but only in Japan. Finally, the RZA has put that right, and now the soundtrack, which features a number of contributions from the Wu-Tang Clan, is available around the world via this new pressing. Largely warm, light and airy, much of the material mixes traditional instrumentation - electric piano, various Japanese instruments, guitar - with head-nodding hip-hop beats and the kind of obscure, Blaxploitation-era funk samples that have long been a staple of the RZA's work. It's a great set of instrumentals, with just enough forthright vocal cuts to keep things fresh.

Review:  Back to The Future is one of the most widely love films of all time, with a similarly iconic soundtrack - not to mention the hover board, the Nike trainers - so news of it landing on vinyl for the first time ever is always going to be huge. For this heavyweight pressing, the music has been fully restored from original master recordings under the supervision of composer Alan Silvestr. The album includes two tracks from Alan Silvestri's compositions for the film, two tracks from Huey Lewis and the News, and two songs played by the fictional band Marvin Berry and The Starlighters.

Review: Given that Alexander Korostinsky's Whatitdo Archive Group project is a wholehearted tribute to 1970s library funk, it makes sense for this debut album to be marketed as a "long lost soundtrack to an Italian cinematic masterpiece". It isn't, of course - it's brand spanking new - but Korostinsky and company's grooves, instrumentation and production is so authentic that many will be fooled into thinking that they're purchasing a rare classic. Those with knowledge of both movie soundtracks and the library music scene will note the various nods to familiar and not-so-familiar composers (the swinging sixties work of Roy Budd and Ennio Morricone in particular), while the filmic nature of the music makes us wish The Black Stone Affair was a real film. Either way, it's a hugely entertaining album that's well worth your attention.
