Los Alamos Motel
Review: If you've ever got a few hours to spare, check out Legowelt's discography - the Dutch analogue fetishist is astonishingly productive (and, of course Legowelt is simply one of Danny Wolfers' many pseudonyms). Here, he adds another label to the growing list with a surprise appearance on Andrew Morgan's Washington D.C-based Peoples Potential Unlimited imprint. Unsurprisingly, Wolfers explores many of his favourite themes on Puzzles in Life, merrily skipping between melodic, bubbling deep house (the excellent title track), slo-mo Detroit futurism ("Video Phone To Space"), super-slo stargazing boogie (the superb "Cruise Till The Sun Shines") and woozy, intergalactic ambience ("Los Alamos Motel"). In many ways, this is an unusual turn from PPU, but it's a calculated gamble that's more than paid off.

Review: Music For Dreams label head Kenneth Badger was so inspired by the Tangerine Dream soundtrack to the classic Michael Mann film The Thief that he and Tolga Bo0.95yu0.95k from the Turkish band islandman decided to write their own soundtrack to an imaginary movie. They managed to write 10 tracks within 24 hours while imagining a film that told a story about two people stuck on the arctic ice cap where one tries to fool the other. Influences from Vangelis, John Carpenter, and Tangerine Dream all feature in what is a superb and escapist listen.

Review: Given his infamously high work rate, it's surprising to find that Legendary Freaks in the Trash of Time is Danny Wolfers first solo album as Legowelt for the best part of three years. Less surprising is the high quality threshold maintained throughout. The 12 tracks naturally touch on many of his usual musical themes, joining the dots between chiming and spacey analogue house, ragged basement-friendly workouts, vintage Detroit futurism, bustling electro, breakbeat-fuelled rave revivalism, deep acid bubblers, crystalline electronica and humid ambient fare. He also doffs a cap to the Orb (opener "My Life in a Bush of Spaceweed" doffs a cap to epic 1992 single "Blue Room") and Autechre's deeper early moments (superb closer "La Guerre Aux Reves"). All of Wolfers albums tend to be of a decent standard, but this one sounds a cut above many of its predecessors.

Review: By his usually prolific standards, Danny Wolfers has been surprisingly quiet of late. In fact, this EP for Clone West Coast Series marks his first Legowelt release since November 2017. All four tracks are naturally up to Wolfers' usual standard, with opener "Omnibus Babylon" - think Braindance-era ambient techno after a bottle full of Jager shots and a dose of Colombian marching power - and thrillingly melodious, IDM-influenced closer "Golem Memory Bank" our pick of the bunch. Elsewhere, "Miskatonic Trimester" sees the Dutch stalwart pepper a chugging house groove with starry electronics, while "Learning To Fly" wraps gentle acid lines and futurist Motor City techno riffs around a crunchy, post Chicago house rhythm track.

Review: For those who missed the memo, Occult Oriented Crime is one of several hundred alter egos occasionally used by Legowelt man Danny Wolfers. He first donned the pseudonym in 2014 for "The Occult Orientated Crime Album", a stunning but previously digital-only outing that has finally made it to vinyl for the very first time. From start to finish, the set prioritizes mood and atmosphere over club-focused rhythms, with Wolfers offering up a range of evocative, heavily electronic ambient soundscapes. While some cuts sound like Radiophonic Workshop doodles or Pete Namlook style immersive synth-scapes, others wrap delay-laden pianos around a whisper of electronic texture; throughout, Wolfers proves a masterful maker of meditative ambient bliss.

Review: [Standard album edition sans 10"] It's rare that electronic music artists push themselves to the same degree as Danny Wolfers. The Dutch artist is one of the most prolific contemporary artists, working under an often bewildering array of guises, but this latest release sees him go deeper than before. In part, this is due to Wolfers taking more time on the production process because he wanted to make his tracks as DJ-friendly as possible, but it is also due to the fact that he has matured as a producer. The Paranormal Soul is his most refined work to date, and there is an absence of the raw edges that characterised classic Legowelt releases like Klaus Kinski or Tower of the Gypsies. Yet despite this, Wolfers' music has not lost any of the touches and flourishes that make him so distinctive. "Renegade of a New Age" and "Elements of Houz Music" have those melodic, part-mysterious, part-cheesy synth lines that Wolfers pretty much owns, and "Voice of Triumph" and "I Only Move for You" see him revert to classic acid, with visceral jacking offset by warm, 303-soaked basslines. But the most significant measure of Wolfers's development lies in the fact that he has created his own interpretation of the early 90s techno sound that originally inspired him. "Rave Till Dawn" starts with "Red 2"-style chord stabs, but instead of bombast the track gets progressively more subtle thanks to fragile break beats and mellow pads. "Sketches From Another Century", with its dreamy sweeps and building chords sounds like classic Carl Craig, but just when the listener thought Wolfer was intent on making Detroit techno tribute track, those unmistakable melody lines and warbling bass kick in, the very manifestation of the Dutchman's musical soul.

Review: Dekmantel has wheeled out the big guns for this third volume in their 10th anniversary vinyl series. Mr Consistency himself, Leon Vincent, kicks things off with "UK Spring Vibes", a pleasingly deep and softly spoken shuffler piled high with attention-grabbing analogue bass, stretched-out chords and twinkling piano flourishes. Legowelt excels himself (as usual) on the darting, synth-heavy intergalactic fun of "Blue Astral Techno", while Joey Anderson is an ultra-positive mood on the melodious, slightly melancholy, synth-heavy deep house of "Opened Gate". Central's "Six Five Two", a wavy and Balearic-minded trip though gentle, sun-kissed sounds and bubbling electronic rhythms, draws a fine EP to a close with an intoxicating flourish.

Whilst our personal favourite (the bizarre Portopia by Wolfers alias Satomi Taniyama) remains looked over by labels, Berceuse Heroique were responsible for a quite sumptuous double LP edition of Smackos album The Age Of Candy Candy earlier this year. Now local Den Haag crew BAKK have got their hands on 2004 Strange Life album Dark Days for an equally classy triple LP edition. Wolfers fans not familiar with this album will immediately fall in love with Dark Days, thanks to the signature blend of goofy track titles ("Lego Resistance", "An Obnoxious Affair On Tape") and music that veers from soaring, synth vistas to grotty techno via cold, primitive electronics and more.

Leading with the title track, this finds Danny Wolfers on a soulful and deep house vibe with a wandering and mesmerising melody, warm pads and super shuffling garage style rhythm. On the flip is "Beach Oceano" which is equally rich in soulfulness but more on the deeper techno vibe, with its sharp and hypnotising arpeggio backed by galactic melodies and glistening pads. All accentuated by analogue tape hiss in the background. This is raw!

Review: Madrid's Riverette have been naughty since their debut back in 2014, their consistently high levels of house quality have impressed us...and Holland's maestro Legowelt, apparently! This is the Lowlands legend's third appearance on the label, and he's joined by DOS Attack for this one; the master lays down a truly 'classic' sort of Legowelt tune on the A-side, plenty of mystique and synth harmony going off left, right and centre, while DOS Attack's "Flue" is slower, spacier, and chugs along to a mid-tempo pace with the help of some powerful low-tones, and a great percussion flex. Yes, go on.

Review: The Hague's legendary synth wizard Legowelt is back on BAKK, one of his local imprints. "Micronesia" has a sublime groove with dreamy pads and lush melodies that beg your attention. "Pannenkoekenfeest" (try saying that three times fast) is the real highlight here; a tough Detroit techno stomper with all the soul you'd expect and reminiscent of old Juan Atkins or Carl Craig. On the flip "Esoteric Party Buffet" is a dreamy, cyclical and minimal number that loops just nicely. Finally "Laundromat Of Your Mind" continues with the loveably absurd titles and gets back on the tougher tip. A peak time number that references classic Robert Hood. As much as these all seem like tributes, they're all done in the trademark Danny Wolfers way.

Review: In years to come, Danny Wolfers might be compared favourably to musical mavericks such as Sun Ra. Certainly, he's always been an artist ahead of his time, who makes and releases a dizzying amount of material, on a confusing array of labels, under a similarly befuddled number of aliases. Here he dons the familiar Legowelt alias and returns to Unknown To The Unknown with "Institute of the Overmind", a cheery acid wiggler that successfully combines sharp and hooky 303 lines with punishing, snare-heavy rhythms, skewed vocal samples and just the right amount of evocative, synthesizer sweetness. Check out FACT TV to see Wolfers produce the cut in real time, whilst DJ Haus looks on amazed. Label regular Photonz provide the flipside remix, emphasizing Wolfers' synthesizer hooks and acid lines on an undeniably sweet, attractive and ravey revision.

Review: If you're yet to add a Creme or L.I.E.S. record to your collection this year let this Creme Organization Valley Of Shadows x LIES EP kills two bids with the one stone. Or you could just get it for Randomer's obliterating "Ugly Drummer". Legowelt throws down some spiralling Detroitisms in "Only In America" following the colourful club construction Innershades provides in "Acid Rehearsal", and to match the brutality of Randomer's A-side cut is Ron Morelli's "Signal Jam" retooled as a darkly bending slab of cathedral techno by Greg Beato. Simoncino provides more of his usual sequenced Chicago house prowess in "Earth & Nightfall" leaving Willie Burns to let loose on the keys in "He Is Crazy Enough" when closing out this radical compilation.

Review: It's perhaps fitting that the first Creme Organization 12" of 2015 - their fifteenth year, no less - comes from Danny Wolfers, a producer who has been closely associated with TLR's imprint for much of that time. In many ways, Vaporware Tracks Vol 1 is classic Legowelt, with dusty analogue rhythms and pulsating electronics being joined by all manner of colourful synthesizers and 8-bit melodies. Wolfers releases are plentiful, of course, but this still feels like one of his strongest EPs for some time. The skittering Detroit techno of "Saterian Moon Breeze" and acid-laden alien funk of "The Sea Is So Silent" are particularly potent, though all four tracks are excellent.

Here, he makes his second appearance on Madrid-based Riverette, with an EP packed with his analogue-rich production, woozy chords, cyclical melodies and throbbing arpeggios. There's naturally much to admire, from the hazy, glassy-eyed pulse of "Tandalyo" and breezy melodies/jaunty synth bass of "Nebular Paradise", to the skewed organs and hypnotic rhythms of "Utopian News". Arguably best of all, though, is "Japanese Planetarium", a deeper excursion that's dreamy, hypnotic and surprisingly foreboding.

That and editing an e-zine, directing and starring in a bizarre online TV show with Willie Burns and slipping out free synth patches. Review: Parisian DJs Guido Minisky and Herve Carvalho apparently conceived the Acid Arab project after a visit to Tunisia with Versatile Records founder DJ Gilb'R, excited by the notion of pairing strains of traditional Eastern music with contemporary electronic sounds. Calling on a cast of producer friends, the inaugural Acid Arab Collections was one of this year's surprise hits, taking in Crackboy edits of Omar Souleyman, Arabic acid from I:Cube and Acid Arab's own "Theme". A similar calibre of artists are involved on this second Acid Arab Collection with contributions from the tireless Legowelt, DJ Gregory, Professor Genius, DJ Gilb'R and Acid Arab themselves. "Egyptian Acid Oasis" from Legowelt features all the hallmarks of a Danny Wolfers track and is described as his vision of an "acid trip in company of Bedouins during a secret rave in Sinai desert". DJ Gregory appears as Headcore bringing the sort of percussive expertise to this release that's been a hallmark of his production career whilst the most intriguing contribution comes in the shape of The Hadibeats. The one off collaboration between Professor Genius , Dj Gilb'r and Acid Arab, "Rum" is given that extra air of authenticity thanks to the participation of secret-weapon guest Shadi Khries, massive percussionist from Jordan.

The Crystal Cult 2080 Album sampler heralds, surprisingly enough, a new album from the producer next year under his famed Legowelt moniker. On the basis of these tracks it should be as strong a set as we've come to expect from Wolfers; the extended 12" dub of title track glistens and squelches in equal measure, while "Majestic Alchemy" and "Mistral VHS" pulsate with a stately sense of purpose. "Do What You Gotta Do" meanwhile, is a full-bodied belter with the kind of crushingly clean kicks and shimmering analogue chords only Wolfers can create.

Now with Danny Wolfers on board the label is starting to take shape, and both the original and the remixes point to very bright things ahead. "Hollywood Murder Mystery" is a fine slice of cosmic, electro-infused acid as you would expect, living up to the title in mesmerising yet beguiling harmonic configurations through which the drums and bass punch. Bringing an equally otherworldly brew of electro and acid to the table, Steve Lorenz's Moonhacker version of events is infallibly strange and utterly nasty at the same time, while under his own name his remix is a streamlined affair that follows an insistent melodic line, only to be craftily switched up after a momentary breakdown.

There's nothing as frivolous as a track name here, just six raw tools of drum machine expressions in different patterns for sliding into your set at the appropriate juncture. Some drum machines come through with their character instantly, such as the unmissable whip-crack of the claps on an 808, plastered all over "Track 2", but in other instances it's hard to say. There's no kind of colour or distraction on these jams; just pure and elegantly programmed drum machines doing their thing. That these tools can still have moments as exciting as "Track 3" when the musical tom comes in says a lot about Wolfers' abilities within the field of vintage equipment and music creation.

Review: ** REPRESS ALERT! Danny Wolfers engages in some cheating to maintain his 2013 weekly release schedule with a colour vinyl repress of 2011 album The TEAC Life ** On his website, he describes the 14-track opus as "deep, tape saturated forest-techno", as adroit a summation of his sound as any scribe has ever managed. The title is an obvious nod to the equipment made to construct the album, an admission which, rather than spoiling the mystique, only adds to it. The 14 tracks paint incredibly vivid images, from the audible tape hiss and raw drums on opener "The Night Wind", which leads to the windswept landscape of "Half Moon 106? and the slightly more polished Chicagoan jack of "The Soul of a City". The Virgo-esque string led romanticism of "Metro Airport" is one of many high points on what was one of 2011's best albums.

Review: Whilst it might seem initially surprising that Actress has contributed these remixes for the new Jack For Daze release, Danny 'Legowelt' Wolfers has spoken widely about his admiration for Actress; calling his work "futuristic and advanced", it makes perfect sense that Clone should now extend an invitation to the Werkdiscs boss to remix material from Legowelt's recent album The Paranormal Soul. Actress has offered up two versions of "Elementz Of Houz Music," a track that perfectly encapsulates Legowelt's mastery of melodic, part-mysterious, part-cheesy synth lines. The first remix has Cunningham shuttling Legowelt's arrangement through a cloudy car wash of hissy mist, chopping up the original into his trademark cubist techno; this dovetails nicely with his second 12 minute offering. Markedly more drastic, this offering slows down the synths, kicks and percussion to a drunken stupor, with the results not unlike playing a 45rpm record incorrectly at 33rpm.

Review: Danny Wolfers once again graces the excellent Kindred Spirits label with some more afro inspired shenanigans as Nacho Patrol - backed with a Shangaan electrofied remix from Nozjina! Those who haven't indulged in Wolfer's Nacho Project material will find this a near perfect primer, as "Lineas Angola" demonstrates the prolific Dutchman to be equally adept at working on a shifted tempo as he is at the standard mid 120 range, spreading out an almost haunted acid line over shuffling shakers and melodians. In contrast, Nozinja ramps up the tempo further, implementing devilish edits and scattergun lo-fi melodic touches for a remix every bit as singular sounding as the 2010 Honest Jon's compilation upon which Shangaan Electro was given a wider audience.

To The Westfield
Review: Danny 'Legowelt' Wolfers' and fellow Clone regular Brian Chinetti aka robot disco expert Orgue Electronique return to their lesser spotted Chicago Shags project with this fine EP of electronic sounds that unashamedly hark back to a bygone age, where music was made not on computers but keyboards and magical boxes made in Japan. It's not so much retro-futurism as just retro. First up is "Ponderosa", a shuffling deep house jam propelled by nagging electric piano lines, fluid pads and hustling 808 percussion with long, weary, drawn-out chords recall the spooky majesty of Orbital's 1990 single "Midnight." Following this, "Pancake Breakfast" fuses vintage Chicago bottom-end with the futurist sounds of Detroit and spirals towards a formidable climax, its energy only matched by the far-sighted melodies that seem to cascade from the speakers. "Firetruck Sunday" boasts the sort of booming analogue bottom-end that was once the preserve of Virgo Four or Phuture, while closer "To The Westfield" is another muted but impressive tribute to the early days of Chicago deep house which seemingly loses itself in layer upon layer of vintage synthesizers.

The superbly named Immensity Of Cosmic Space arrives hot on the heels of Legowelt's fine Vaporware Tracks record for Creme and sees the Dutchman exploring the realm of rave era breakbeat techno. Of course what makes Danny Wolfers work as Legowelt so distinctive his mastery of star gazing melodies and hearing them fused with recycled drum breaks on the title track and the Amen filled "Lumeria2" is a real delight.

Review: Danny 'Legowelt' Wolfers may be the only man in the world capable of carrying off an album cover that features him sat in a forest, eating pancakes, alongside one of the many vintage synthesizers he owns. The eccentric Dutch producer has a near faultless discography, too, with each new album - and there have been rather a lot over the years - being as quietly impressive as the last. There's much to enjoy on his latest full-length, which sees Wolfers giddily flit between rap-sporting electro-punk quirkiness ('Under a Golden Dome'), sci-fi-seeped Italo-disco revivalism ('Edelweiss Reingold', the tongue-in-cheek title track), sparkling deep electro (the starburst sweetness of 'You Are Just a Sad Hologram Projected From The Edge of the Universe') and acid-flecked techno ('Side By Side We Ride Against The Hordes of EDM').

Review: Danny Wolfers is undeniably one of the most prolific and endlessly creative artist sin electronic music. Keeping up with his numerous different aliases alone is a challenge. For this one on Unknown to the Unknown he becomes Dickie Smabers and heads off into a dramatic world of lo-fi, low slung and dusty house beats . Plenty of pixelated melodies light up the airwaves while more electro tinged rhythms and robotic jackbeats also help move things along in typically dynamic fashion. As always, this is another vital dispatch from The Hague.

Review: Danny Wolfers' restless productivity knows no bounds. Not content with dropping stone cold 12" singles at a furious rate, he's delivered yet another Legowelt album to Creme Organization. Pleasingly, Crystal Cult 2080 (so called because he used a homemade crystal compressor and dusty second hand Roland JV2080- synthesizer throughout the recording process) is up to his usual high standards. There are few surprises - we should all know what we're getting by now - but plenty of reasons to be cheerful, from the fuzzy new age electronica of "The Future of Myself" and muddy Detroit futurism of "Fundamental Superstition", to the tropical pagan mysticism of "Ancient Rites Demoni Mundi" and warped acid of the feverish title track.

Review: Due to his notably prolific nature and the sheer volume of music he releases, you'd be forgiven for letting some of Legowelt's full length excursions pass you by. We'd recommend paying attention to his latest, Unconditional Contours, though, as it's arguably one of his more interesting, out-there and atmospheric collections of tracks for some time. For starters, it's not rooted in his usual dancefloor-focused style, but rather electronic ambient, 1970s kosmiche and the far-sighted modular experimentalism of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. What you get is a series of ear-catching soundscapes interspersed with occasional beat-driven excursions such as crunchy, melodic electro number 'Chateau Dans Le Ciel Farfista Synthorchestra 2' and the gorgeous 'Prophet Vector Synth Dazzling in the Sun' - all seemingly created using vintage modular, analogue and early digital synths.

Review: We all know anything released on Mystic Quantum is worth buying for the cover art alone, and this mightily impressive return of Legowelt is certainly no different. Beautiful on the inside and out, it's packed with the kind of delicately detailed soundscapes we've come to expect from the revered producer, who proves every bit of the musicality we associate him with across seven very good tracks.

'Squirrel' is perhaps the exception to the rule, its frustrated and distorted rumbling breakbeat and chain-gang high-hats cry out for some monster or other to be fed through the arrangement. On the whole, though, this is far from club stuff, opening on the lush bleeped harmonies of 'Once At The In & Out Burger Academy', closing out on 'Vesper Sprites'' mysterious, breathy refrains and metallic percussive accents, by way of the cinema-worthy piano piece, 'Meekian Lovedance'. Enough to keep you going until next month's album.

Review: There's no stopping Danny Wolfers, who has still managed to release two albums as Legowelt this year despite a raging pandemic and a crippling economic downturn. He's predictably on form again on his first outing for Lapsus offshoot C.E.E, giddily moving between a range of sparkling, synth-heavy outings that encapsulate all that is good about his analogue-rich productions. We're really enjoying opener 'Santiago Chile Arp Track', where sparkling electronic melodies and mind-warping TB-303 lines rise and fall above a jacking techno drum track, while title track 'System Shapeshift' is amongst the most psychedelic, punchy and potent electro tracks he's ever released. Also worth a look is the early Orbital-ish trip that is 'Live in Transnistria', not to mention the stuttering heaviness of strobe-lit acid onslaught 'My Dad Was a Lifeguard'.

Through shivering calculator-scapes and maddening trance repetitors, the album is a timeless blend of the old- and new-skool, all while as ever flaunting Welt's ultra-diverse palette. Perhaps our favourite aspect of this release is Welt's ability to expertly name his music; we've no idea what an 'Octobulus Poly Evolver' is, but it certainly sounds like Legowelt is an expert at using it, and that's what counts.

Review: Previously given away as a free digital release, Legowelt's The TEAC Life gets a richly deserved vinyl pressing, comprised of four twelve inches. On his website, he describes the 14-track opus as "deep, tape saturated forest-techno", as adroit a summation of his sound as any scribe has ever managed.

Review: If there was any label right now that was somehow tapped into the collective musical tastes of the Juno review team, it would be Signals. Based in Newcastle, the label was borne out the long running and respected Road To Rimini club night and has delivered releases from John Heckle and Oppenheimer Analysis in its brief history to date. The inaugural release, a smudged out delight from the previously unheralded duo The One featured a Legowelt remix, and Mr Wolfers now makes his full Signals debut with the North Sea Spectrum EP. The four tracks here are vintage Legowelt tackle, from the humorous titles "Bergerac Professional" to saturated hues of expert Juno 106 manipulation and dextrous box jam rhythms with "What Time Is It?" a real highlight.

Review: After self-releasing the quadruple vinyl version of The Teac Life last year in a move of bold self-reliance, Legowelt is returning to the lauded collection of analogue wonder to make choice cuts more widely available. In the second instalment, you can get lost in the euphoric string stabs of "Metro Airport", or thoroughly befuddled in the loping groove of "Moon Mist". However it's "Beyond Ur Self" that really stands out, finely balancing the elements so that the bright and bold melodies sit nicely with the more submerged elements, all the while creating that mysterious atmosphere that defines Legowelt's music like no-one elses.

"Irrational Excess" commences proceedings in ridiculous form, with Wolfers using all his machine funk expertise to throw down wave after wave of cascading analogue showers over unforgiving 808 rhythms. Wipe yourself down from that sweat filled joy for the more delicately melodic "Disorderly Orchard", with the rough acid and percussive edges offset by the intricate synth work. Traverse to the B Side where breathless vocal edits and gut hugging analogue basslines run through "Lost In A Blue Night" though it's the big waves of Chicago emotion that grab you. Finally the TLR Edit of "Southside Will Rise" could be the soundtrack to Snake Plisken's Escape From Chicago.

Review: The woolly jumper wearing don known as Legowelt (real name Danny Wolfers) turns to his Nacho Patrol alias for the Africa Jet Band Experience on M Division. Here we are treated to six tracks of hazy analogue disco, with the dense gurgling chaos of "Fuzz Party" our pick of the A-Side offerings. It's a tougher call on the flip, with the frantic lo-fi antics of "No Angry People" and "Ghetto Compressor" both getting frequent play on the Juno office 1210. We shouldn't be surprised when Wolfers drops such an excellent array of tracks on us; he has one of the best collections of analogue kit on earth, and, importantly, knows how to use it - but once again he's left us gazing adoringly at his work. This serves as the perfect vinyl-shaped addendum to the full Africa Jet Band Experience album, which hit the CD shelves this week.

Their endeavours go up several notches in our affections with their latest release positing the ever excellent Legowelt at the helm for a triplet of his distinct cross city house pollinations. The title track "Sark Island Acid" sets the tone in glorious form with rapidly oscillating streams of acid twirling around expert layers of drum machine energy. It's indelibly marked with the sonic identity of Legowelt and is both a beautiful slice of electronic music and a potent dancefloor shaker. On the flip Wolfers digs deeper into the machine with "Backwood Fantasies" an expert example of mind altering jack heavy on the twisting synth scapes, whilst "Sea Of Nuhuhu" contrasts heavy bass turns with glistening key refrains over basic constructed drums. A pleasure from start to end!

Review: It's rare that electronic music artists push themselves to the same degree as Danny Wolfers. The Dutch artist is one of the most prolific contemporary artists, working under an often bewildering array of guises - Soul is his ninth album as Legowelt - but this latest release sees him go deeper than before. In part, this is due to Wolfers taking more time on the production process because he wanted to make his tracks as DJ-friendly as possible, but it is also due to the fact that he has matured as a producer. Soul is his most refined work to date, and there is an absence of the raw edges that characterised classic Legowelt releases like Klaus Kinski or Tower of the Gypsies. Yet despite this, Wolfers's music has not lost any of the touches and flourishes that make him so distinctive.

Review: Continuing the feeling that a new Legowelt record is seemingly announced or released on a weekly basis, the Dutch producer adds another label to his faintly daunting discography by inaugurating the Spanish label Riverette. Aside from a sparse website and hollow Soundcloud account, little is known about this low-key Madrid label, but it's easy to focus on the music here as the Blue Tearz 12" offers a snapshot of Legowelt's production diversity. The title track grips all available space on the A Side and offers a perfect display of Wolfers' talent for wrenching melodic beauty out of his equipment, whilst "I Shadow Wolf III" - which must be a reference to his recently unveiled Shadow wulf CyBeRpUnK E-ZiNe - is reminiscent of Psyche-era Carl Craig. "Source Of Menace" meanwhile is vintage Legowelt!

In its short life, the Athens based imprint has already graced us with releases from LIES, Steve Summers and Professor Genius and their latest is a true mark of their ambition. It sees Danny Wolfers aka Legowelt return to the label for a full release, having remixed the LIES track "Comeback Dust", and continue his rich vein of form this year. The Poverties Paradise EP finds Wolfers in a somewhat pensive mood, splaying utopian next century jack material from his enviable array of analogue synths and drum machines, with "Horizons" the one real departure towards something more electrifying. Despite his prolific nature, it seems like there's plenty of inspiration left inside Danny Wolfer's brain and long may the status quo remain!
