  1. Mothership Konnection (5:10)
  2. Mothership Konnection (instrumental dub) (4:33)
Review: "Mothership Connection (Star Child)" by funk legends Parliament was the third and last single released from the group's highly acclaimed 1975 album of the same name. After six years and much fanfare (including some from George Clinton himself), this sought-after KON remix is finally on 7" with a new EQ on the A side and a handy instrumental dub on the flip titled "Mothership Konnection" (see what he did there?). According to the man himself, "another sure shot rework from the stems ... recognizing the pure genius of George Clinton and crew, P-FUNK. So many layers in this session, it's amazing how much is really going on musically".

Review: Shine Grooves is a multifaceted artist, and this second record for Kimochi Sound explores two sides of that personality. The delicate, introspective, expressive precision of After All, DPS v55, and Secret move from sublime resignation to summery exuberance to a kind of earnest meditation. On the other side, collaborations with X343 yield a more extroverted approach: spontaneous mutations turn rolling grooves into unpredictable improvisational explorations.

  1. Birds (7:26)
  2. Birds (Tiago remix) (10:08)
Review: Claremont 56 continue to disregard the genre boundaries - preferring instead to give good music the attention it deserves - as their latest looker of a twelve inch presents us the sounds of Torn Sail. Fronted by Smith & Mudd vocalist Huw Costin, Torn Sail go all 60s West Coast rock on us with the gloriously rich sounds of "Birds". From its acoustic beginnings the track gradually unfurls into a delightful groove embellished by soothing vocal harmonies. It's almost a thankless task enlisting anyone to try and remix what sounds like a perfect song, but Claremont 56 obviously chose right in requesting the services of Tiago. In the Portuguese producer's hands "Birds" is transformed into a heavily psychedelic freakout which gently develops into a kraut rock behemoth filled with swathes of heavy organ vibes. Containing several shifts in momentum - including a glorious half speed finish - this is a truly stunning remix which left our jaws occupying the floor!

Let It Go Parts 1 & 2
  1. Let It Go (part 1)
  2. Let It Go (part 2)
Review: Funk, soul and jazz-funk reissue specialists Dynamite Cuts are particularly good at offering up seven-inch singles featuring album tracks that have never previously appeared on "45". They're at it again here, delivering a killer seven-inch featuring the much-sampled two-part track that bookends K.C & The Sunshine Band's self-titled, 1975 sophomore LP. "Let It Go (Part 1)" is a low-down Miami funk treat featuring a hot-to-trot-mix of bustling drums, heavy percussion breaks, rousing vocals, fiery (and familiar) horn riffs and impassioned lead vocals. The slightly shorter "part two" mix is an even heavier, vocal-free take that deftly showcases the quality of the band's hip-shaking, rabble-rousing instrumentation.

Review: Dynamite Cuts' latest extra-special double "45" mines ones of the earliest albums from soul and funk legends Earth, Wind & Fire, a 1971 set that was notably more psychedelic in sound than many of their more celebrated later releases. Opener "C'mon Children" is fiery, weighty and driving in the style of San Francisco funk-rock heavyweights "Tower of Power", while "Bad Tune" more than lives up to its title in a "bad meaning good" way (it also includes some crazy solos, which is no bad thing). Over on disc two, "Help Somebody" is an insanely up-tempo, horn-heavy Boogaloo style romp, while "Momet of Truth" is a low-down funk number straight out of the top drawer.

Review: Before concentrating on his solo work as St Germain, Ludovic Navarre worked extensively with Didier Delasalle, a producer best known for his releases as Shazz, under a variety of pseudonyms. One of these was Soofle, and it's Navarre and Delesalle's sole EP under that moniker - 1993's "Nouveau" - that Groovin' Records has now decided to reissue. As you'd expect, there are plenty of nods towards dreamy deep house amongst the Motor City inspired cuts on show, with opener "Thrill" - where bubbly acid lines, hazy chords and lilting melodies ride a bustling groove - and the organ-sporting "Happy Cycle" particularly impressing. Also worth a look is closing cut, "How Do You Plead", which is arguably the most deep and melodious of the lot.

Review: A new philosophy as time enters a radical history of our evolution. Being and nothingness in one, creatures of habit, the angels of nature, we can herald a new humanity.

DJN4 enters in homage. Optimus Yarnspinner. Edification through music bends, but does not break the untameable lost voices. This dissolution of ego, where culture exemplifies the principle of innovation through excess, the nocturnal brain sees only what it seeks.

The order of time is more than a conspiracy of the people, this enforced interlude does not mean culture's end. Our culture, music's culture, acts as a genome, a graffiti of society.

The psy, the rave, the sounds, the species, the food of the gods. Alpha Juno, Cyclon 303, mutable instruments and ideas collated, N4's modern mysticism to harness the Earth as a being of sound. This occult features an anarchism, offering us a collective immortality, allowing us, showing us, how to be more humane.

Across eight tracks, our DJ weaves a journey to the inner and outer digi sphere, a two-year search, in to steppas, out of dub, evoking legitimate synthesis and sensibility. Look beyond Zamonia. The lost Chord. An alien dreamtime. Tales of Z.

Review: Second time around for one of Simon Whalley's most magical releases as CIM, the "Series Two" EP, which first landed on Headspace Recordings way back in 1999. Here it gets reissued by Delsin, with each of the five insanely good tracks being presented in freshly remastered form. There's plenty of variety within those five tracks, with Whalley confidently strutting between punchy, full-throttle electro ("Factory Preset One"), warming ambient techno/IDM fusion (the colourful "View 91 Fill"), weighty, percussion-focussed heaviness ("Edit Micro Tune"), and the kind of melodious deep techno/deep house fusion that will forever sound far-sighted and futuristic (EP standouts "Bias" and "Soft Rain"). Recommended.

Review: Kon continues to use his Kontemporary label to release his own licensed remixes of original disco tunes. This time round, he presents two new versions of L.T.D's 1976 cut "Love To The World". His A-side "Lots of Love Remix" is particularly strong, offering a rolling, musically rich reconstruction that adds a little more contemporary low-end pressure while showcasing the original version's superb vocals by spreading it out, giving the punchy disco-funk horns, killer bassline and tasty instrument solos time to work its magic. Over on Side B, he offers up an instrumental version of the same mix in which soaring disco strings provide a focal point and push the track forwards towards a suitable celebratory conclusion.

Review: Whether they're operating on Toy Tonics, Freerange, Madhouse or NeoVinyl, Black Loops rarely fail to deliver the deep house goods. Predictably, the Italian duo's Shall Not Fade label debut is another quality collection of cuts. Our pick of a very strong bunch is probably "Badmanthing", a quirky chunk of rubbery deep house-funk built around a bold, memorable bassline, eccentric electronics and tipsy chords, though the skipping drums, meaty bass and tweaked New Jersey garage motifs of "Plastikhaus" are also hugely alluring. Elsewhere, "No Fear" is a notable fusion of bounding house beats, darting jazz-funk synth sounds and simmering synth-strings, while EP opener "I Know You" is a more classic-sounding slab of deep house cheeriness.

Review: Malin Genie takes us deeper than deep on this new drop for his self-titled label. "Aventijn" opens proceedings up with a veritable plunge pool of submerged pads and steady ticking techno hypnotism - the perfect mind bath for all sub-aquatic travellers. "KIAB" has a dusty house groove to it, but it's still resolutely liquid in its demanour, while "Duppy" has a more pronounced edge and some intriguing metallic dub clangs at work in the mix. "Amulius Numitor" continues the dub techno theme without using any drums - just one massive gravelly chord pulse. Then the record trips on out for as long as you like with a batch of locked grooves for the trick-loving DJs to get creative with.

There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing amongst the five tracks on show, from the effortless warmth of title track "The Power of Poetry" - a glorious fusion of Nu Groove era Burrell Brothers style deep house and sun-kissed Italian dreaminess - to the chunky, bass-heavy bounce of New Jersey garage-influenced closing cut "Magic Flute". Other highlights include "Underground Night", where slick, vibraphone style solos and twinkling pianos ride another thickset late '80s deep house groove, and the luscious Italian dream house revivalism of "Round The World".

Review: 23 years have passed since Blue Boy (AKA Scottish producer Lex Blackmore) delivered one of the biggest club and radio hits of summer 1997, the Marlena Shaw-sampling "Remember Me". Here the familiar favourite is given a new lease of life via a pair of fresh 2020 re-rubs. David Penn steps up first, expertly layering sustained Wurlitzer organ chords, gospel-style, clipped disco guitars, piano riffs and the famous vocal sample over a thickset, 21st century house groove. Frank Rizaro's remix is even heavier, with Shaw's vocalizations riding a beat that's closer to tribal techno than deep house. The head-nodding, toe-tapping original 1997 mix completes a rock-solid package.

His bulging discography boasts appearances on Creme Organization, E-Beamz, Unknown To The Unknown, Shall Not Fade, and now Private Persons. In keeping with the latter label's raw and forthright vibe, title track "Atomic Label" is a sparkling slab of Kraftwerkian electro blessed with notable percussive and low-end weight. "Brain Hack" sees Salgado pepper another rolling electro rhythm with trance-like stabs and sci-fi melodies, while "Moscow Forever" sees him take a more foreboding, creepy and paranoid musical stance. Finally, "Laniaka" is a raw, pitched-down electro treat laden with vibrant, alien electronics.

Review: The latest drop on Ornate sees Neil Tolliday's Nail project metamorphose into Sentipede. His illustrious track record in UK house and techno has touched on all kinds of ventures since the DIY days, and now he's presenting something very special indeed for Ornate. The vibe on these tracks is more taut and techy, with "313151" opening proceedings on a bubbling bed of acid before the rubbery monosynth jack of "44151" on the B side. Keeping things locked into this nervy strain of warehouse tackle, "3131154" finishes the record off with some even more audacious 303 lines that will dig right into your synapses and give 'em a twist, in the nicest possible way of course.

This Latvian label are surely providing some of the strongest strains of pitch-black underground electro from lesser known operators in the machine funk catacombs. On this new various artists 12", White Mane Horse and Deputy Bender fire off sleek and sinister rhythms while UHU has a little tongue in cheek fun behind the veil of icy whispered vocals and nervy bleeps on "No Body Knows Electro". Featuring vinyl-only cuts of a true Los Angeles funk pioneer, often overlooked due to his infamous love songs. Starting with the electronic boogie of 'Passion', one of the tightest and most under-rated funk gems of the 1980s. This was made specially for Adesse's last Boiler Room show and became his most requested and sought after edit. The B-side takes things in a completely different direction, with the raw deep-house grime of 'Rivers' and the orchestral almost Philip Glass-esque 'Off The Man'.

Review: In the earliest days of his near three-decade career, Norwegian veteran Bjorn Torske released some rather fine Detroit and Sheffield-influenced techno on DJax-Up Beats, initially alongside Ole Mjos, as Ismistik. "3rd Trace", which was originally released way back in 1993, may well be Torske and Mjos's most potent and alluring release of all. Check first the galloping, sci-fi-fired Motor City tech-funk of "Resync", before focusing on the weighty, bleep-laden surge of "Option Bass", a kind of Norwegian take on Yorkshire Bleep & Bass. "Moonspace" is a brilliant tribute to Derrick May's mid-to-late '90s Transmat sound, while "Linked Modules" is altogether deeper and dreamier, with the pair - now Norwegian scene legends - peppering a tactile techno groove with bright and breezy melodies. In a word: essential.

Review: Since debuting in 2016, Slovenia's PHI crew has delivered sporadic slabs of wax, with each occasional EP joining the dots between techno, acid, electro and IDM. This 12" narks the label's return to vinyl after a 15-month absence and boasts two tracks apiece from label regular Vid Vai and Luckison collective member Tzena. The latter kicks things off with "As The Dust Settles", a chiming and cheery chunk of funk-fuelled electro/IDM fusion, before returning to open side B with the crunchy sci-fi techno vibes of "Remixnotremix". Vid Vai's contributions are naturally impressive, too. "Syn20" joins the dots between Bleep & Bass and deep electro, while "Exciter" a rugged chunk of organ-sporting breakbeat/techno fusion.
