Fluturul (10:10)
Vulturul (7:51)
Si Gaita (8:07)
Review: The Botanic Minds stable continue to inject the vague framework of minimal club music with some colour and sass with this excellent EP from Romanian mainstay Sepp. 'Fluturul' is a perfect 10-minute escapade with a seriously funky bassline and dreamy but snappy melodic hooks on top to carry you away in a reverie of sunkissed psychedelia. 'Vulturul' takes things in a deeper direction without losing the panache and personality that made the A side a winner. 'Si Gaita' seals the deal with a sundown delight that weaves together more of those interlocking melodic lines to get bodies shaking in an effortless, day-into-night fashion that spells out a long and fruity session ahead.

Cross Check
Star Of Hope
The Magic Flute
Review: Following on from his 2010 "Dickens Tracks" EP
for London's PAL SL, OCH drops the eagerly awaited 2nd edition to the
series. As a producer his sound stands out through fusing stripped-back,
jackin' drums with sharp, swinging hats always adding an injection of
analog warmth through sparse, synth arrangements. A1's "Cross Check"
stays true to the labels early roots by using the bare essentials of
house music to create a hypnotic, highly effective floor-mover. On the
flip, "Star Of Hope" is an interlude, set-starter or vinyl DJ tool. B2's
"The Magic Flute" has a relaxed, sunny Chicago feeling teasing with
lush samples, driving bass and rock-solid beats. Mastered at D&M.

Review: A repress for four prime slices of classic Baby Ford minimal tech gear, from the rhythm-centric drum machine fest 'Very', the resonant bleepy tones of 'Test', the sparse and spacious 'Down' and the subtle acid undertones of 'Percy'. Baby Ford is finally getting his props as one the UK acid and techno scene's true innovators and pioneers, and these four very mixable tracks are four more reasons why this is only right.

Review: Long time Leeds head Midge Thompson steps out with a mother of his fresh and futuristic cuts, this time on the Meld label. The respected local DJ and some time Back to basics regular has had outings on the likes of Butter Side Up and aways brings the electronic funk, as he does again on 'Middle of The Road.' It's a clipped, kinetic cut with swirling ambient pads and a gritty vibe, then 'Harvest' is all about floaty light minimal loops that suspend you in space. 'Chips' brings a balmy deep house vibe with some nice effects and sound designs that elevate it above mere functionality, and 'GNGB' closes with a sweet afterparty groove.

Review: Mule Musiq presents more remix delights from veteran producer and label staple Kuniyuki. The new Remix Works EP features a suitably deep, dusty and low-slung rendition of 'Shake House' by Detroit musician Paul Randolph on the A side, followed by a sublime ambient house version of Hokkaido-based quartet Marewrew's 'Rera Suy' featuring a backdrop of ethereal pianos and subdued percussion that allows their amazing vocals to play centre stage. Over on the flip, there's another left field offering in the form of Etv Girls Choir's 'Sampo Tagumine (Forging The Sampo)' where Kuniyuki reworks the track by exploring a neo-classical style to mesmerising effect.

Heal Myself N Moving On (5:26)
Somewhere Deep In My Heart (3:54)

You Can Do It Baby (5:15)
Review: Jinn April is a South Korean born, now Detroit based artist who moved to the Motor City in pursuit of the music she loves. She has since established herself in the city as DJ PIA with sets at all the right venues and a cross-genre style that is the norm for the originators in the Mid West. Now comes her own self released first EP, and it's a fine one. "Heal Myself N Moving On" is raw, unapologetically rough house with hi hats, gauzy chords, wooden hits and knackered kicks all chucked into a loose mix and allowed to evolve on their own. "Somewhere Deep In My Heart" is another ramshackle mix of odd melodies and detuned jazz, while "Reincarnation" is a melange of keys and chords, occult synth sounds and icy hi hats that is purely experimental and "You Can Do It Baby" ends in similarly singular fashion. This is exactly the sort of unusualness you would expect of an artist who has established herself in Detroit.

Review: Hot on the heels of his inaugural release in January, Braiden introduces Slewis, a new producer on his emerging Off Out label. After years of honing his craft in the studio and playing in experimental bands, London born Slewis makes his mark on his debut with two equally bold dancefloor cuts. Group V opens with an extended twisting cacophony of synthesizers before breaking down into metallic driving machine funk. On the flip, Despot delves deeper down the rabbit hole as EBM influenced sounds and syncopated claps dance around a bed of paranoia, leading to a tense breakdown populated by a flurry of spasmodic drums.

Review: Berlin-based Italian producer Audri has been scattering his smart, fine-tuned machine soul across a handful of labels over the past four years. Picking up the thread from the emotive and inventive end of the 90s techno spectrum, his latest drop on Albion should appeal to all those who can't get enough of that B12-flavoured sound. 'Inner Movement' sports plenty of classic Motor City influences, but given a crisp modern finish. 'Dizzy Freq' has a deeper demeanour that jacks and jives in equal measure, with a nod to the formative sound of bleep techno. Domenica Rosa delivers a fun and freaky twist on the original, before the legendary Titonton Duvante dubs things out nicely on his version of 'Inner Movement'.

Review: There's been a deservedly renewed interest in the work of Brian Cavender aka Seafoam in recent times. The Denver-based producer was most active in the early noughties, with some now highly sought after releases on seminal imprints such as Los Angeles' Guidance Recordings and Straylight, as well as San Francisco's Lo-Rise Recordings. Several years back, Paris-based Rue De Plaisance began to reissue some of Cavander's work for a new generation of diggers. Now fellow Denverites Deep Club present brand new material by him on the Swing Set EP, with three deep, dubby and hypnotic minimal house cuts, all delivered in his idiosyncratic style. Absolutely perfect tackle for the afterhours, with a remix on the flip by Berlin-based Snad.

Their new studio album Optical Delusion arrives in early 2023 and of course, comes with an extensive UK tour to back it up. This is the pair's 10th studio album overall and has already been teased by some useful singles. Rave, techno, trance and breaks all colour the grooves of this new long player.

There's a fair chance you'll already have heard "Cola", experienced production duo Camelphat's collaboration with vocalist Elderbrook. The original version, with its rumbling bass, atmospheric builds, subtle bassline house influence and "she sips the Coca-Cola" refrain, has become something of an anthem since first appearing on digital download earlier in the year. For this first vinyl release, Defected has packaged the now-familiar original mix with a trio of reworks. The most impressive of these comes from German veteran Mousse T. He brilliantly re-casts the track as a bumpin' chunk of celebratory disco-house complete with thrilling piano riffs and an elastic bassline.

** Camera's ready. Prepare for the Repress ** Curtis Jones is never one to rest on his laurels, as his staggering back catalogues as Green Velvet and Cajmere can attest but such is the force of his personality that a new release still feels like an event. "Bigger Than Prince" capitalises on Jones' knack for a vocal that lambasts the less earnest quirks of the dance music industry, while creating the hook to make the track a bomb in the same instance. Production-wise, there's a measured strut to the track with some choice growling bass synths and an underlying disco flavour that suits Jones just fine. On the remix front, Circus turn to The Martinez Brothers to hammer out a rolling, percussion focused version perfect for big room mixing, while Hot Since 82 turn out a similar line in boompty peak time damage.

Review: Innershades has put out a lot of heavyweight club tackle in the past few years, gracing labels like CABARET, Time Passages, Crimes Of The Future and so very many more with plush, high-end hardware house. Now Serenity have brought him on board with Jos for a split EP in support of Save The Children. Innershades takes up the A side with the warm, jacking peak timer 'A Better Life' and the emotionally-charged acid pearler 'In Their Eyes'. On the flip EYA Records boss Jos brings a similarly upfront, bold production style, but favours the slow n' thumping breaks approach over straight up house on 'Rituals Of Resistance'. 'The Palace Of Illusions' is markedly more jacked up, with a peak time thrust to the drums and some big synth hooks to latch onto. Four big time belters, what more could you ask for?

Review: The second instalment in Yossi Amoyal's Fluere compilation run brings further leftfield house and techno delights into one place, in honour of Sushitech's 15th anniversary. First up on this 12" is Baby Ford's impeccable remix of Jin Choi, which adds extra layers of drama to Ford's trademark minimal clicks and pops. Sten's 'Circles' is a pristine, dubby tech house workout, while Mark Broom's 'Gira' sounds all the better for a modern remaster 25 years after its original release. Edward's 'Sender' finishes the record off on a nervy, unsettled note where lingering off-key tones hover over a dense and twitchy minimal beat.

We really enjoyed Roy Rosenfeld's first outing on All Day I Dream, last year's "Rumbala", so hopes are naturally sky-high for this belated sequel. There are arguably two headline attractions: dreamy, percussion-rich and emotive deep house-meets-tech-house opener "Lift of Love" - all swelling chords, drifting electronic motifs and drowsy aural warmth - and Sebastien Leger collaboration "Voodoo", which is a bolder and more melodic chunk of blissful dancefloor sunshine. Both are rather good, as is the beacon of bright-and-breezy musical positivity that is delicious flipside epic "Honey". In other words, Rosenfeld has outdone himself. More please!

Recently Norm Talley launched a new label, Upstairs Asylum, and delivered a much-needed sequel to his superb 2011 EP on Mixmode, Tracks From The Asylum. A decade on from the record's original release, he's finally got around to producing a sequel. The native Detroiter predictably starts in fine fashion via 'Gonna Luv U', a chunky and locked-in house number rich in groovy bass, bold piano motifs, ear-cathing sax riffs and colourful P-funk samples, before heading ultra-deep via the beatdown-influenced haziness of 'Detroit Dubz'. 'In Your Soulz' sees him add energy-packed hand percussion and chiming lead lines to a bustling deep house beat, while 'Digital XTC (Detroit Mix)' is a spacey, hypnotic workout that sounds like it was tailor-made for dark warehouses in the hours approaching dawn.

UK stalwarts Audiojack are real workhorses who have provided a myriad of club-ready weapons for DJs all across the board in recent years. Most of it has come on their own Gruuv label, which is where they return now. They open this latest missive with 'Intimacy (feat Lady Vale)', a slow building tune that awakens from a subtle, deep roller into a rather spiritual cut thanks to the fine vocals. 'Outta Limits' indeed explores the sort of deserted distant planets you'd expect from the title, while 'Neo City Lights' could well be the sound of a future disco found on one such exploration.

Dubtil is to minimal lovers what cat nip is to cats. The master of stripped back and synthetic grooves returns to cult Romanian label A:rpia:r here with three elongated cuts of deftly designed, infectious electronic music that is all about slow release pleasure. There is a darkness to the bass of 'I' that makes it hugely alluring, while 'II' is more punchy and driving, taking you on a trip through the cosmos, where alien life forms and sci-fi motifs drift over supple beats. 'III' is the closer, a broken beat deep house tune drawn out into something languid and subversive.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Record slightly warped with light surface marks/scratches, but otherwise in perfect working condition***

Originally featured on their celebratory XV compilation back in 2017, Berlin clubbing institution Watergate have reissued one of the the standout tracks here by Hamburger Matthias Meyer and Berlin's Sebastian Waack aka Ryan Davis. The track "Hope" in its original form was a lush and hypnotic drifter, geared for some life-affirming moments on the dancefloor. The rework featured here by the legendary John Digweed takes the track into much more adrenalised and entrancing territory, with its trance arpeggios and tight rhythm arrangement making for great dancefloor dynamics - but the breathtaking orchestral arrangements of the original are left intact. New track "Love Letters From Sicily" could equally have had a home on All Day I Dream - its ethereal daydream qualities make it perfect for a Sunday afternoon rooftop party downtown.

Moby's back catalogue has been reworked rather a lot lately, with Drumcode following the lead of 2DIY4 in releasing a string of contemporary remixes of the Vegan beat-smith's classic productions. This 12" - the second of four the Swedish imprint is releasing - begins with a storming version of "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad" by Enrico Sanguilano. It makes good use of the original's famous vocal sample, working it into a banging techno track that looks to the riff-heavy world of trance for inspiration. On the flip, the Manic Brothers offer their interpretation of "Go", combining the original's evocative chords and vocal samples with heavy new techno beats.

German producer Andre Hommen, a longstanding affiliate of Dennis Ferrer's Objektivity imprint, presents two remixes from his recent More Than This LP released earlier this year. Featured here are the first of two special remix packages released via Hommen's own label - These Eyes. More Than This Remixes Pt. 1 includes reworks from two staples of the esteemed Kompakt Records: the legendary Robag Wruhme brings his unmistakable sound to the remix of 'Cohesive' on the A side, which is a glitchy yet ultra deep minimal house workout, followed by ascendant Cologne-based producer Jonathan Kaspar's rendition of ;Eins' on the flip. This one goes for a more subdued tone, giving the track's elements room in the mix for a contemplative listen - proper mood music.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

The mysterious Ikuto caused a stir a few years ago when the inaugural Orbitr release surfaced, being highly sought after on the second hand market when it sold out. Subsequent releases have surfaced since and before we knew it, he's on to the fifth release. The A side of 005 is a tough rolling and hypnotic banger which will mix well with any current Rominimal or U.K. tech house record. On the flip, like many others on the modern minimal scene, the Swiss producer now looks to the techno sounds of the early '90s as reference point, with some bleeped-out, party starting machine funk that treads a path similar to what Time Passages and Cabaret are doing of late. Tip!

Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

Locus was one of the breakthrough tech-house labels of 2020, so we're looking forward to hearing what they have in store for 2021. They've made a positive start though, thanks to a rock solid four-tracker from experienced, Hamburg-based producer Sidney Charles. Opener 'High Pressure' sets the tone, with Charles dousing a typically glitchy-but-funky groove in spacey chords and flashing electronic motifs. The German producer explores similar sonic territory on the even funkier - but no less fluid or mind-altering - 'There is No Time', while 'Onda' is a more dense, intense and bass-heavy late-night wonk-a-thon. Closing cut 'Joy Love', a raw and twisted affair, may well be the most inspired track of the lot.

Musik Hypnotises
Wasp Factory
Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight tear and creasing to corner of outer sleeve, but otherwise in excellent condition***

The mysterious, canine-loving producer delivers three slabs of euphoric but tough techno for Michael Mayer's label. The title track is full of the kind of spine-tingling hooks and melodies that this project has long been associated with, but on this occasion, it is delivered against the backdrop of a steely, spiky rhythm. On "Musik Hypnotises", all semblance of melody is absent, and in its place there is a rough, acid-soaked techno workout. Finally, "Wasp Factory" inhabits a similar space, with heavy, warped beats and nasty 303 riffs propelling this dog lover into a much more abrasive sound than before.
