Review: Sascha Funke has been a busy man this year. After several 12" releases and remix projects, he finished his second
album in his new studio. You can definitely hear, that Sascha still has the six months he spent in Aix-en-Provence in his
mind. Sacha's new album goes by the beautiful title 'Mango', out on the Bpitch Control label, and it is just great. Gernot
(one half of Modeselektor) was really digging the new tracks, when he first heard them he asked for a copy right away,
as according to him "this is the most mature music Sascha ever did". Like its forerunner 'Bravo', you can expect nothing
like 08/15 speed- techno with 140 bpm - but a fresh and direct, catchy sound. Sascha's demand for techno, amongst others,
is the directness that is created by the structure of his tracks. On the other hand, you can associate something with every
single song on the album. Mr. Funke definitely found his style and knows how to prevent boredom. Every track is full of surprises.
'Mango' is the perfect opener for this album, as it begins to slowly introduce the emotions of the further tracks.

Review: With this amazing and dynamic Bpitch Control release, 'Dancing Graffiti' the Finn, who has lived in Berlin for more than 10 years now, proves his abilities and understanding of music. Right from the very first moments your legs start to move and, because of the syncopic accents of the beat, your whole body follows. The bass forms the outlines while the fill-in, established by bells and synths, creates an incredible tension and energy. Minimal tweaks such as the typical shake of a can get the crowd even more determined to give everything on the dancefloor. One thing is obvious: Kiki does not need to give this track his signature, you can hear it is him from the very beginning. On the b-side we get a version from the guys from Zander VT which is at least as danceable and thrilling as the original, sounding a little less playful but working in synchrony as the claps, sirens and hi-hat push the track further.

In the course of the following years he produced quite a few Acid tracks à la Underground Resistance. Review: Michael Mayer, the Kompakt veteran, comes as the whispering intro, but soon enough unfolds as a dance track of first-rate quality. Sascha Funke's "Miles Away" on the opposite gets down to business right away - striking beats and a sing-along melody of a reverb synth that, towards the end, builds up to an upbeat peak. Wighnomy Brothers introduce us to their version of "Steinbeisser" smoothly, but in an exciting way. They did their remix without almost any beats at all and only concentrated on sounds in the typical Wighnomy Brothers style.

Review: On the A-side there is a dance remix of both artists that really cracks, vibrates, accumulates and then explodes. The second track on this side is a remix by Robag Wruhme (Wighnomy Brothers, Musik Krausse, Jena - Germany) dance music, cut up, broken beats, jazzy, bouncy, that turns body and soul into a steaming pot. The B-side is a specialty for those who got "Orchestra of Bubbles" on vinyl - the 2 tracks "Rotary" and "Sleepless" are otherwise only available on the CD version as bonus tracks.

Review: Still indulging in 'Air/Earth', we can already enjoy the next Smash TV release 'Yellow Asteroids', which will stay with us for all the upcoming open air festivals and summer parties. Holger Zilske aka Smash TV enchants us with 2 tracks that are actually variations of the same musical theme. The aspect of searching for new sounds was traditionally the centre of his attention before. Generally however, Smash TV's sound has become more compatible for DJs, more danceable and deeper over the last few years. This doesn't mean that he compromises on quality and originality! On the A-side of 'Yellow Asteroids' a typical Smash TV melody, carried by a squeaking and pushed-up synth sound that sneaks with wary steps into a straight and upright 4/4 beat in order to get pushed forward by it in the course of the track. This synth then shortly disappears when an protracted break comes in, almost hurting in its length, and reappears with a new drive to ride on to the very final moment. The B-side breaks! Shifted beats and rhythmic effects let the track bounce-moving hips, alright! All in all, Smash TV is indeed closer to his goal of filling the dancefloor with tracks of substance and self-reliance.

Review: On one level, this debut album from Berlin-based singer/songwriter Dillon is a curious choice of release for BPitch Control, a label better known for its dancefloor-flavoured output. Yet in many ways, it makes perfect sense. Dillon's songs and vocal style suggest indie - or, at least, the out-there oddness of Kate Bush - yet This Science Kills is not a straight-up indie album. Sure, her sound is sharply focused on both her distinctive voice and loose, freeform piano playing, but the production boasts enough interesting electronic touches and low-end pulses to prick the ears of all but the most militant techno heads (see the leftfield dancefloor pomp of closer "Abrupt Clarity").
