Essentially, the voicecards replace patch cables - they connect the "modules" of the Bullfrog internally. But that's not all about them - some voicecards have built in mixers, signal generators and advanced electrical circuits to control the synthesiser, for example, sequencer that sends CV to control pitch and gate to start events on the synthesiser.

When inserting voicecards, make sure, the front panel of the voicecard faces the main interface of the Bullfrog. It is recommend that you turn off the Bullfrog when inserting a new voicecard.

The ELECTRIC ORGAN voicecard makes internal connections of the Bullfrog to emulate pipe organ, when several notes are played together. It also illustrates the principles of ADDITIVE SYNTHESIS. In additive synthesis several simpler waveforms are mixed together to generate more complex sounds. On this voicecard the pulsewave is sent to the DIVIDER and all outputs of the divider are mixed together with the original pulsewave and sent to the VCF and then to the VCA. Both ENVELOPE GENERATORS are involved in the same way as on the Acid Bassline voicecard. The DIVIDER divides an original frequency by even numbers and as result produces a pitch that is even octaves down form the original pitch. Faders on the voicecard determine an amplitude of each suboctave. Set the VCA OFFSET all way counter clockwise, PULSE OUT to the max. Push the MANUAL GATE button to check the sound. Tweak settings of the faders and observe the difference in the sound. Tweak CUTOFF and RESONANCE knobs. Add some echo by setting the DRY/WET knob to 12:00 and find the best DELAY TIME and FEEDBACK settings. Now, connect the keyboard and you are ready to perform Toccata and Fugue in D minor.

The WIND AND STARS voicecard makes internal connections of the Bullfrog so that it automatically emulates randomly evolving wind sound and blinking stars are controlled by the divider. Toddlers fall asleep better when they hear sounds like these.

The NOISE is patched into VCF and the VCF is patched to VCA. Set the VCA OFFSET to 12:00, ENVELOPE GENERATOR 1 to LOOP mode, NOISE LVL all way clockwise. Then manipulate SAMPLE & HOLD RATE setting, VCF CUTOFF, RESONANCE and CV 1 LVL settings, and well as ATTACK 1 and RELEASE 1 settings. Add some echo by setting the DRY/WET knob to 12:00 and find the best DELAY TIME and FEEDBACK settings.

As it's name suggests, the HIGHPASS VCF voicecard expands the sound treatment capabilities of the Bullfrog by bringing a highpass filter into the game. This allows for exploring highpass and bandpass filtering. The voice card features typical VCF controls - CUTOFF frequency, RESONANCE and CV LEVEL. The CV source switch allows for selecting between three CV sources - envelope generator 2, Sample & Hold LFO, which is a pulsewave generator in the Sample&Hold "module". The voice card features internal audio connections - the output from the MIXER is patched into the highpass VCF, the output of the highpass VCF goes into the input of the onboard lowpass VCF which is then connected to the VCA. For more flexibility, no CV connections for the Bullfrog are present on the voice card, so you have to do the patching yourself.

It boosts external signal to modular synth signal level.

With the Pico Input, line signals from, for example, a synthesizer, drum-computer, audio interface or smartphone can be raised to modular level. The module delivers up to 40 dB of gain. Thanks to its two channels, users can comfortably process mono as well as stereo material.

The Pico Input comes equipped with two signal paths. Each signal path features an audio input, a volume potentiometer and an output. Up to 40 dB of amplification are available. Using jumpers on the circuit board, it is possible to dampen the maximum gain to 20 dB. The module's first input is a stereo jack, meaning the user can connect a smartphone or tablet without any adapter cables. In this case, incoming signals are distributed internally to both channels.

Notes: Erica Synths Black Mixer is compact, high quality audio mixer with bonus features - mute switch on each input and three buffered outputs. This allows you to add audio signals to your mix instantly and in exactly right level, plus you can send signals to several post-mixer devices simultaneously, for example, split the output signal to LP and HP VCFs and create advanced bandpass and notch filters.

The Pico RND comes equipped with five outputs, they emit the following signals:

As its name suggests, the Erica Synths Black DJ VCF provides sound treatment functionality typically found on DJ decks - it is fully open when the cutoff knob is set to 12:00. When turned counter-clockwise, lowpass filtering is applied and when turned clockwise, highpass filtering is applied. The filter also has a nice-sounding resonance parameter. This module provides hands-on control over the sound during the performance, as well as unconventional timbre modulations that are hard to achieve with conventional state variable filters. The Black DJ VCF is a fully analogue design and consists of two VCFs - highpass and lowpass in series and the filter management is done by complex CV routing.

CUTOFF
This is the main control of the module - manual cutoff frequency adjustment with a twist - it's fully open when the cutoff knob is set to 12:00. When turned counter-clockwise, lowpass filtering is applied and when turned clockwise, highpass filtering is initiated

RESONANCE
Adjust the resonance level manually. On settings over 1PM, the filter will start to self-oscillate. The resonance is incoming audio signal-sensitive - a signal of greater amplitude may reduce the impact of resonance on the resulting sound

The Erica Synths Black Dual ASR EG is a versatile, full analogue voltage controlled looping envelope generator and low frequency oscillator with manually and voltage controlled shape and rate, designed for use in advanced modular systems.

It has two identical parts, each featuring all typical envelope generator controls and bonus features - the end of the cycle output and bi-polar LFO output. When in loop mode the shortest attack and decay settings turn the module into voltage controlled drone oscillator with adjustable waveform (it will not track 1V/oct, though).

Notes: Pico DSP is a small brother of the popular stereo effects processor Black Hole DSP. Notes: The Erica Synths Envelope Generator 2 is a re-triggerable, looping envelope generator with some unconventional features that are very useful for experimental setups. What sets the Black EG2 apart from other envelope generators is its optional GATE LENGTH setting, which allows for generating full ADSR envelopes even if a short trigger is used at the input. Likewise, in LOOP mode, the module outputs a full ADSR envelope instead of a classical AD envelope. Select between SINGLE SHOT or LOOP modes. When the internal gate is o , the rise and fall times are set via the A and R knobs. When the internal gate is on, all knobs have an e ect on the envelope shape.

The LED gives visual feedback on the envelope state.

TRIGGER

If you wish to use the envelope generator with an internal gate, patch the incoming trigger signal here. The internal gate is linked to the trigger input, not the gate input.

This module generates several clock signals simultaneously and has some more advanced features like tap tempo, shuffle and divide, both for controlled rhythmic music production and for experiments with high level of uncertainty. You may also find the adjustable and even random duty circle of shuffling and random clock outputs interesting. Bonus feature - the module can be used as a performance time stopwatch.

This is a LOOP switch. When it's ON, the envelope generator outputs a signal for which the rise time is defined by the Attack setting and the fall time is defined by the Release knob setting.
