Review: Following up the digi in 2023, Italy's Muovo Musica bring the edgy jukey electro stylings of Dove Quiete's 'So I Ride' EP to 12" vinyl, doing thorough justice to this sparse sonic tonic, which borders on a skweee temperament. The title track is both jitterbugging and propulsive, fitting in reams off bass beneath its earcatching toppy snaps; then things get increasingly weird, with 'My Jordan' working in childish laughs and indecipherable hahas between the woodblocks, and 'Something For' going full-on acid blues remix; all in all, we get the impression of a weirdo's favourite, one that nonetheless knows exactly the kinds of uncanny emotions it hopes to solicit.

Review: RWYS is up to EP number six here with D Vices the one in charge of the ship. It's a classy outing too, with three originals all bringing plenty of ragged Motor City energy to different electro grooves. The first is highly charged and full of snap as it soars through the cosmos, then 'Neverender' is harder, flatter, more menacing with its drilling bassline and fizzing synths. 'Curious Rover' then bumps with plenty of cyborg funk and drum programming excellence as squelchy acid runs through the midst of it all. Last of all is a B Bonds Resistor remix of the same tune to close out a solid 12".

Review: Part 2 of the Wave Modulation Series is here. This time the troupe presents a fine release from Gimmik, with remixes from Moy, Sound Synthesis and Naqare Lucid. The central number is 'Analog Dream Plants', which commands a uniquely well-rounded, full-bodied sense of space (it's so organic, even the hi-hats have bass) while reflecting the more repititious elements found in nature by way of lilting two-tones, analog synth ostinati, and, muted vocal murmurations. The quality is kept up almost effortlessly, with dreamy transitions into spacey electro from both Gimmik and Moy, all while Naqara Liquid indulges an equally lovely, but toothier, IDM interpretation.

Review: Canadian electro stalwart Sneak-Thief has been off the radar for some ten years or so, but now he's back with the brilliantly titled Under The Synthfluence EP on Mondo Phase Rec. If you ever enjoyed Sneak-Thief in the past you'll be more than satisfied here as he leans in on that potent blend of EBM, Italo and machine funk with plenty of vocoder and nasty, throbbing baselines. 'All Let Go (dub)' is an unbridled party monster, while 'Der Herzenbrescher' has a smouldering, bombastic synth-pop feel which you'll be hard-pressed to resist. If you thirst for that turn-of-the-millennium electro sound, you'll be very happy with this record.

Review: The fourth record from the French electro label Perfusion. So far, each release features multiple artists showcasing their own brand of the next generation electro. Nite Fleit's 'Off Radar' is an audio attack on your senses, a sometimes abrasive, crunchy, raw, heavy bass stormer is not for the faint of heart. Swooh's 'The Streets' also has an over-arching sci-fi sound to it revelling in the history of electro. For the second side, High Fidelity's 'Say My Name' adds a rave-punk attitude to the mixture of electroclash, gabber and techno. The EP rounds out with a breakcore romp with Juicy Selekta's 'Stackin' Up!' that features some hip-hop samples. If electro-shock was a genre, you'd point people to this track. Intense.

Review: Uwe Schmidt's mammoth artistic stamp has left an indelible mark on electronic music since he first emerged in the 80s as a DIY industrial artist in Frankfurt. His complex, many-sided career has been documented in a new book, AtomTM, the nonconformist virtuoso, which is being bolstered by this mini-compilation from Industrial Complexx and Fill-Lex. The A-side is focused on Schmidt's early work as Lassigue Bendthaus, where he responded to the emergent industrial and EBM phenomenon with a high-definition sound which ranks among the best music of the era. The three tracks sound as relevant today as they were futuristic when originally released. Meanwhile the B-side features two of his most daring works as AtomTM, originally released as The OvercomEP as a digital release in 2022. These angular, experimental studies serve as a neat demonstration of just one place his music has ended up across an accomplished career.

Inspired by the oncoming anxiety of a technological hell (trust us, we all feel it, Carl), it's either join the AI death cult or die, as a straight 60+ minutes of generative electro stabbery and post-neural warpings make the entire project sound like a supernatural server processing vast numeric quantities of infectious bytes.

Review: Electro is a style with an infinite number of sub-genres and for fans of the more raw, industrial and textural stuff then this is an EP for you. It's a split between Umwelt and Zeta Reticula, who goes first with a brilliant brace on the a-side. 'The Fate Of The Ship Unknown' is a storytelling track that journeys through an intergalactic space battle as lasers fly by at all angles. 'Documented Contact' is slightly deeper, with more resonant bass and percolating arps that are packed with intrigue. On the flip, Umwelt's 'Hyperspace' is all visceral lines, snapping kick and hi combos and sleazy synth that fires every synapse in your brain. 'Earth To Unknown' closes out in high speed and coruscated fashion for maximum dancefloor impact.

Review: Jinje is a solo project from Lee Malcolm, a founding member of the Leeds-based experimental band Vessels. His music in solo mode is just as singer and hard to categorise as with his band and here on Mesh he veers between electronic, synthetic and organic sound worlds with driving breakbeats topped with gorgeous string sounds, hype-real synths and a shimmering sense of sonic futurism that is awash with melody. These are hugely detailed tracks but the overall picture is never confused as his arrangements ebb and flow with great clarity and make both a physical and emotional impact.

Review: Cititrax's first Tracks 12" sampler did a good job in showcasing material from some of the Brooklyn-based label's favourite contemporary producers. This follow-up, arriving only a few short months after the first, aims to do the same. This new EP - except for a re-issued track that first appeared in 1995 - is a continuation of his fusionist style where he layers up wonky rhythms, detuned synths, IDM, ambient and techno into something new, something spiritual, something utterly fresh. Review: Talk about keeping things on a knife edge. The first, and title track on this powerhouse EP is pretty much destined to whip any venue into a storm of expectation, not-so-much building but rather opening with this full-sounding, heavily atmospheric, space-y, proggy, could be techno, could be electro, could be trance arrangement. The kind of thing where there might as well be flairs firing into the sky warning you how much stomping a floor can take.
Similar vibes on 'Medusa', only on a deeper, darker, more menacing tip, a tune that sucks ears into another world entirely, one that's a little unsettling, and certainly difficult to find your way back out of. Review: Goodbye Esmond, Hello Kelvin is a stylish and wide-angle look at electro that explores every different mood and groove possible. The opener is a mournful scene-setter with downbeat chords but hopeful wisps of melody. 'Micro Machines' takes flight on slick, wet claps and driving kicks and 'Beam' is a brain-cleansing bit of cosmic electro pureness. There is a coy electro-funk to 'Magic Man' that allows you to dream while your feet get stuck in and 'Citrus' is a gorgeous late-night cruise on far-sighted chords that brim with emotion. The second 12" is just as classy and packed with evocative feelings.

Review: Vincent Fries second album as Italo Brutalo, the throbbing, darkwave and EBM-influenced heaviness of Heartware, has been given the remix treatment. There's eight high-grade, club-focused reworks to choose from, with our picks of a very strong bunch including CYRK's dark, twisted and funk-fuelled electro re-imagining of 'Reach Horizon', the glossy, big studio Italo-disco brilliance of Mufti's rub of 'Dream Machine' (think Stephen Hague producing the Pet Shop Boys circa 1986) and Shubostar's thickset, melody-rich, Bobby Orlando-influenced rework of 'Heat of the Night'. We'd also recommend checking out the two takes of 'Into a Sampler'. Review: Jesse Anderson has been making beats since the 1990s but Jessbeatz is a new alias that debuted last year. He now brigs it back for a second outing, this time via Electrostatic in the US. 'Alien Invasion' finds him exploring a stark electro sound with corrugated basslines and bright sonic sparks firing over smoother pads. It's a track full of intrigue and perfect for building atmosphere. 'Light Years' then picks up the pace and is a high speed dance floor assault with lashings of synths flashing about the mix as you race through the cosmos at high speed.

Review: DJ Scientist aka John Raincoatman's Berlin-baed The Outer Edge label has got another sensational Art Programming release on its hands here. Originally this was the last track on their self-titled 1983 cassette only album on the P.A.P. label. It's basically unknown because it never landed on wax but had it done it would no double be a game changing classic. It's an eight minute opus driven by exhilarating electro breaks and laden with drums and effects that echo the sounds of Detroit. It's a proto-techno track straight out of Bremen that still sounds unique and futuristic today.

Review: Trident is dropping a couple of top EPs this month. One is from Derrek Carr, and one is this double white 12" that finds Deltamaxx and O En One join forces. They take us on a storytelling trip through cosmic techno that varies in mood and tempo. 'Conexxion' rides a nice rubbery, bumpy groove with incidental and wispy synth sounds, then 'Delta Pavonis' seems to soundtrack a beach party up amongst the stars. There are darker, more heady cuts like 'Donnager' and icy electro cinematics on 'Isonoe' to make for a worthy collection of sounds that work on the dancefloor and beyond.

Review: Still no one makes electro quite like the OG that is The Egyptian Lover. He helped pioneer the genre back in the day and for proof look no further than 'Franky Girl' from way back in 1986. It still very much sounds future today with its ice-cold drum machine sounds, creepy, mystic bass lines and sci-fi synth leads all topped off with his own inimitable mic work. Extended and album versions are included with the flipside featuring 'We The Freaks'. It's a more crisp and raw cut but one that still makes you want to pop that body on the dance floor.

Review: The seemingly unstoppable rise of De:tuned continues, as they take a break from serving up sci-fi techno, IDM and ambient techno to deliver something a lot more intense: a surprise EP from original House of God Birmingham resident DJ Paul 'Damage' Bailey. Channeling the spirit of his friend Surgeon while offering up something fresh, the two original tracks on show are undeniably inspired. 'Hadal Zone' adds weirdo noises, bleeps and mind-mangling electronic pulses to a slipped Afro-techno groove, while 'Decompression' is a wonky, triple-time workout full of Ket-addled electronics and wayward loops. Makaton re-imagines that track as a locked-in late-night techno throb-job, while James Ruskin turns 'Hadal Zone' into a buzzing, industrial-influenced electro-bleep number.

Review: Richard Lamb's second album under this alias, Salt Lick, is also most likely going to be his last. It is a special one though, as you would expect from the man born Ricard Wenger. The title tune opens with tribal hand drums and smeared synths next to twanging guitar riffs then 'A Life In Harmony' takes off on glassy melodies and celestial electro rhythms. Further deep space explorations follow as does the downbeat dreamscape 'May I Dance With You.' On the flip side are two tunes from one the most cult remixers in the game - DJ Sotofett, who twist sounds in his usual fashion into a pair of trippy electro skankers.

Review: After ten years of silence, 'Regimen Galactico Totalitario' materialises as the new release of the Mexican producer Dellarge, renowned for his experimental noise project I.N.R.I. (Industria Nacional del Ruido Infinito). On this latest mini-album, Dellarge propels his vision of today's evolution of EBM toward a futuristic blend of breakbeat, industrial, and electro, synthesising the an apt soundtrack for a future apocalypse, were it somehow quantized and filtered through a killer sequencer ahead of time. All instrumental, and with every track firing off its acid sixteenths as if each semiquaver were escaping a micro-fusion-powered mech-blaster, every track until 'Hades' is breakneck; that is until the EP commits to a tempo drop, as if to evoke the fact that most of the carnage has been meted out, and that all that's left is for the mechsuits to do now is dance an evil victory dance. Limited to just 300 copies, this is an end of the world you won't want to miss (how could you?).

Review: The second release from Alex Egan's Utter sub label Quoth finds a link-up between Pearl River Sound and The Horn - two outlier operators with plenty to say when their machines collide. Pearl River Sound has been scattering outstanding releases on Further, Seagrave and Further Electronix amongst others, while The Horn comes from serious Devon techno heritage having cut his teeth on Evolution back in t'day. This is all about upfront material though, with a tendency towards microtonal braindance that veers from the self-explanatory collaboration 'Modular Grime' to solo forays into off-kilter, acidic electro funk. Nowhere near as derivative as a lot of current braindance, this is real freaked-out electronics for those with discerning taste.

Review: Limited Network's Max Watts has cooked up an EP here that has been written with a very specific use in mind - party rocking and DJ battle deployment. it is fair to say these timeless cuts tap into universal feel-good vibes with opener 'Immortal Funk' a perfectly acrobatic and supple wedge of techno funk. 'Karma' has icy drum machine sounds and 80s electro-funk overtones with bright digital synths and a killer bassline all ensuring you cannot help but move. 'Network Not Found' gets more weird and textured for the afters - the writing acid lines and gurgling dub undercurrents kept down only by a sneaking and cosmic lead synth.
