Review: The Veiltail EP by 747 features two heavyweight songs: 'Veiltail', which is a driving, heavy cascading melodic track with bubbling acid flourishes and a touch of soaring trance influence, and 'Stairway', which is a more electro-slanted track that's nevertheless just as pulsating and dramatic as its predecessor, perhaps a touch of Rephlex-style aural radioactivity. The Canadian label Aquaregia continues to be a trendsetter in the very competitive genre.

Review: Watergate, the cult Berlin club known for its riverside location and legendary LED ceiling above the dancefloor, is also a reputable tech house label that deals in fresh names only. Here it is 8Kays that makes a debut with Falling Down, a selection of superb collaborations including 'Matematica' with Glowal which is tense and electric tech with indie vocals and with Juan Hansen he cooks up the medically hopeful 'Falling Down' which then gets two remixes. Colyn & Beswerda make it into a moody and deep groove, Chris Avantgarde brings some peak time prog energy and solo cut 'Lyra' has a warm, paddy broken beat to cruise on through the stars.

Review: As the artist alias kind of suggests, Abyssy takes a deep dive into the unknown depths of the human spirit. It finds the artist returning to Simona Faraone's label after several years and finds him exploring electronic sounds of the 70s and 80s, blending Berlin school minimalism with Detroit techno's soul and funk. It is a record that ranges in mood and tempo as it heads into oceanic depths where wispy pads and chattery percussive patterns collide in unusual ways. It's a largely abstract album of unusual sound designs and genuine electronic discovery that often has you wondering just how certain abounds have been made.

Review: French hard techno producer Acid Up Dub makes music for the headstrong. His brand of techno comes in at a freakish pace reminiscent of the mid 90s focus on blistering analogue genres that evolved post rave style. 'Tron Pistes' picks up elements of trance while the title track is a building burner. On the second side, 'Melatron' explores a deeper, cavernous sound while 'Destroy Dub Effect' adds a broken techno beat to the point of it almost verging on a EBM sound. We especially like introducing the haunting vocal to the song. All and all, you have one storming techno record. If you like it hard, then this is for you!

Review: Who, or perhaps what, was Tomo Akikawabaya? In truth, nobody really seems to sure on the answer, other than the fact this mysterious Japanese artists decided to release a serious of incredible synth-driven singles during the 1980s, before vanishing back into the dry ice of whatever smoke machine they escaped from. A musical genie, here only to bestow a limited number of gems on us, and then disappear forever. Swerving interviews and photos doesn't help the search, but The Castle II at least allows us to explore his work in depth, across several tracks. These range from the twisted cabaret weirds of 'Objet D'Amour', to the driving electro-punk of 'Le Voleur', grand and decidedly 1980s-sounding synth rock on 'The April', and New Romantic-esque pop on The Castle (II). Essential stuff.

Review: Sergey Dmitriev and Nikita Chepurnoi resurface as Amkarahoi, the experimental project which, the release notes tell us, have prepared an album that "conjures ghosts of 90s chill out tents, aqueous ambient, exploratory turn of the century IDM and echoes of jammy dub." Borne from a largely improvised show that took place in Saint Petersburg, overdubbed and mixed down, it's patient yet wildly exploratory stuff. Amkarahoi is the name of a remote Siberian region and it's easy to see why the pair picked it for this project's name. Uncle Reed In The Purple Mine sounds desolate and sparse, but once we hone in on the details we realise it's taking us though cold, barren atmospheres and into warm, E-hued soundscapes. A thoughtful yet spontaneous slice of immersive ambient you won't regret committing to.

Review: OHM is quickly becoming a quality imprint you can count on for techno and dub techno. The ninth addition in the series, it calls for an excellent blend of composers to balance this EP out. Veteran Jamie Anderson collabs with the brilliant Owain K on opener. The 'Aqua Dub' builds a euphoria for late night smiles. Smooth is an understatement on this linear gem. One artist on here that's been making strong appearances on many dub techno labels is the ever-talented Francisco Aguado. 'Balance' is a great tribal transition track for any DJ who can it creatively to build the means to an end. On the second side, Star Dub offers the very addictive and techy 'Forst'. Ending on a high note, the brisk and flighty 'Ever Growing' by Volpe completes the ninth edition in a rapturous mood. If you like deep techno, the OHM series is a must to collect.

Review: Dimi Angelis makes a fine statement with his 13th release via the ANGLS label and it is packed with raw, authentic beats across four robust tracks that are destined to captivate dancefloors. The A-side features 'Shadowland' which immediately ensnares listeners with its lasso-like loops and spatial nuances. Meanwhile, 'Intergalactic' ignites the dancefloor with its mechanical noise assault and superbly uses the 909 to build suspense with punchy rhythms. Flipping to the B-side, 'Crionics' plunges you into a deep sonic abyss where tension abounds and finally 'Ice Warrior' concludes the journey with abstract yet fulfilling frequencies. Dimi Angelis returns with his distinctive sound, primed to electrify floors from basements to warehouses once more.

Review: The recently started Xistence Records, is dedicated to being a beacon of quality Detroit inspired techno. The label is the home base for Phil Robertson and his own music (so far). Under the name Arbilla, this is the third release on the label. The Movement is a massive classic sounding Detroit techno that would could easily be found in the UR camp. This is that large futuristic, dystopian hi-tech jazz type sound. The B-side features remixes by Biz and then Microworld. The Biz remix is more pronounced on the rhythm and works out a few additions to the original melody successfully. Australian veteran Microworld puts a bit more muscle into the groove while still keeping things melodic and up-tempo. For fans of Detroit techno, you are going to love this.

Review: Aniara's white label number four delivers more techno goodness direct to the dance floor. The A-side features two of Arkajo's most compelling dance-floor tracks, with both offering a propulsive groove and warped and dubbed-out basslines. On the flip side, Dorisburg and Efraim Kent (who are here making their debut on Aniara) present the darker vibes of 'Data Smuggler' which rides on broken beats and has real menace in the airwaves. It complements the A-side with a more deep mood and hypnotic rhythm that will be pure dancing bait.

Review: Arutani's third album Who We Used To Be is a meditation on times passed and alternate lives lost, filtered through the decorative lenses of deep, minimal, tech and dub. As if to paint a character portrait of the artist himself, this is a measured, calm, light, mindful and modest album, replete with bulging concave chord undulations and synaptic percussive snaps for balance. Review: Kirk Degiorgio has made countless great records - including a number of fine full-length excursions - under the As One alias, but few remain as timeless and future-proof as Reflections, his 1994 debut album. Rooted in a mixture of stargazing Detroit techno, futurist electro and UK techno trends of the period (think ambient techno, bleep and what Mixmaster Morris dubbed 'intelligent techno', much to irritation of artists whose music didn't fit that descriptor), the album offers an enticing mix of slow-motion headphone music, intergalactic-sounding experiments, after-hours gems and full-throttle dancefloor workouts. Review: Ilian Tape have been sympathetic to the sound of UK bass for some time now, but this new drop from Atrice leans even further into the pervading energy of dubstep as a source of club pressure. The Swiss duo first appeared on Ilian Tape with Q back in 2021, and they're sounding stronger than ever on this latest missive. If 'Multiplex' brings a cybernetic sheen to headsy 140, then 'Is It Warm' does similar work with techy d&b as the pair dice up breakbeats with precision and drape exquisite, shimmering pads over the ruffness. There's also space for crafty techno propulsion on 'Broke' and high-tempo trippiness on '83 Steps', making this a versatile, consistently brilliant release from a rising force in the scene.

Review: Mighty European powerhouse Drumcode rolls out more of its techno tsunamis here with part one of the 12th volume of its A Sides collection. The boss himself, Adam Beyer, offers up one of the biggest cuts - 'Heading South' is a surging, straight-up techno weapon rippled with deft synths that ever forever on the move. Danny Avila's 'My Crew' (feat Flowdan) is built on a foundation of earth-shattering kicks and rolling bass with hellish stabs and vocal fragments making for an intense atmosphere, and Simina Grigoriu's 'Flight Tracker' is the sort of quick-moving techno sound to lock you into a trance. Add in LAAT's 'The Age Of Juno' (oi oi!) and you have a very useful and high impact EP of contemporary techno.

Review: 'Vida' is the latest and most comprehensive collection of Susana Baron Supervielle's electroacoustic works, all of which were recorded between 1974 and 1980. Never heard before, the eight pieces making up this retrospective compilation from Wah Wah are salvaged wellsprings of field-recorded echoes and tape-magnetic delight, providing ample insight into the inner goings-on of the largely Brazil-based musician and electroacoustic composer. Packed with samples from film, and intertexts via Pierre Schaeffer, as well as the cultural intercourse between Paris, Argentina, and Buenos Aires, the overall palette is one of surreal enjoyment and trembly oddness.

Review: Cabinet is a label that has already got a fine reputation and that has been well-deserved for its work over the years. Now it offers up a new EP from a new project by long-time friends and early Cabinet members Daniel Paul and DJ Trike. They are calling themselves Bass Cab and their vibe is, going off this first EP, classic early 90s analogue techno with live dub versions. 'G2' is a silky and frictionless dub that is as smooth as glass and perfect to get lost in. 'Lofi' has dusty deep house aesthetics with a lovely muted lead synth that voyages at its own pace through the cosmos. 'Dub Chords' brings a mix of twitchy synths, reverb, bouncing drums and rubbery bass.

Review: Well Curated is a series of releases and parties that - in its own words - "reflects the ethnomusicology of the last 50 years of music" - and aims to reach into all genres, merging classic styles and breaking down barriers. Steve Spacek occupies the A-side with the breezy broken beat and soul-in-space of 'Alone In Da Sun', while Lukid's 'Hair Of The Dog' is a more intense counterpart, with wobbling sub-bass and swirling, surging atmospherics hovering above.

Review: Interplugreaction is a track from Beroshima's 2007 album Real To Reel, but it's wasn't until 2023 that we (now get to) hear the cream of its reinterpretations. If only every track in the world could hear a remix from the likes of Marcel Dettman and Rodhad! Perhaps this calls for an entirely new industry - in fact, let's lock the artists in a room just so they can churn out the music and nothing else. Actually, a whopping four techno heavyweights (also including Frank Muller and Henning Baer) to reinterpret the classic track, with the new mixes ranging from stuffy and oppressive to airy and stark. Review: The big room techno don that is Adam Beyer is back with more potent techno weaponry on his own Drumcode label, this time with part two of the 12th volume of his A-Sides series. His 'Take Me There' is first up in remix form and Carl Cox flips it into a surging peak time roller. Matt Guy's 'Give Me What I Want' is an emotive banger with big synth energy and reverberating vocals while ADHS's '2STEP' hits hard with its flaming drums and trance-y synths. Kaiserdisco then brings dark, stomping warehouse energy to their raved-ready 'Get On The Dancefloor.'

Review: Raton has grown to be a quite an integral part of Drumcode as well as the underground at large and now after previously working on the likes of Ellum Audio he finds himself in the studio with techno bigwig, Adam Beyer. The pair cook up two versions of the same cut here. 'The Signal' (Night mix) is a dramatic cut with an epic baseline and space-age synth craft over chunky drums that are constantly on the rise. 'The Signal' (Day mix) is a much more melodic and light cut but has just as much low-end heft. Both of these tunes give you an insight into how big name DJs like this see techno working in different settings.
