Zarate Fix - "Sands Of Time" (5:01)
DJ Sotofett - "Coiled" (Acid mix) (5:22)
Review: The latest Sex Tags Wania missive is a 10"-shaped soundclash between Phil Sherburne/Pitchfork agitator DJ Sotofett and a true legend of the Sydney scene in Carlos Zarate aka Zarate Fix (Thug/Sweet Chilli). On the A side, Zarate serves up "Sands Of Time," a smooth low-slung groove carried by exotic vocals reminiscent of Dead Can Dance's Lisa Gerrard; a nice touch. On the flip, Sotofett takes it down to grinding and slow-burning pace with the lysergic EBM styles of "Coiled (Acid mix)" which is one gutsy groove indeed; with a seriously nasty arpeggio covered in the right amount of rust and dust as we like!

Brutalismo (7:56)
We Control The Sound (8:11)
Review: Fernando Zapico AKA Z@p is one of those producers whose work is always worth a listen, primarily because his quality threshold is very high. This two-track missive on My Own Jupiter picks up where his recent EP for Japanese imprint Cabaret left off, delivering faintly foreboding futurist techno whose sci-fi inspirations are clear to hear. A-side "Brutalismo" sets the tone, with paranoia-inducing analogue bass, creepy synth stabs and swirling electronic textures rising above a punchy drum machine-driven groove. "We Control The Sound" is notably denser and a little darker, with sturdier beats, moodier chord sequences and a bone-chilling breakdown.

Atlantis Force Code
Review: Pacific House pioneers Legowelt and Xosar surface for air as Xamiga for a second time, appearing on the M Division with the dinky blue vinyl Oceania 10". Mr Wolfers is no stranger to the Melbourne imprint, having graced M Division on several occasions under his Nacho Patrol banner, and it's great to see him and XOSAR offered the chance to expand on last year's debut Xamiga release on Rush Hour. As you'd expect from the nautical stylings, there's a healthy amount of Drexciyan influence at display across the three tracks, mixed up with spectral, self styled 'Ghost Haus' that XOSAR has been developing across her solo releases. "Atlantis Force Code" is a considered highlight, sounding like Daphne Oram trying her hand at jacking house.

Lotraf
Thurston Moog
Review: Given the sludgy, otherworldly strangeness of his output, it's perhaps little surprise that Chicago's Beau Wanzer has strong relationships with both Russian Torrent Versions and L.I.E.S. This four-track EP of decidedly weird experiments could easily have come out on either of those imprints; instead, it represents a long overdue debut proper for Melvin Oliphant III's intriguing Nation imprint. Power Outage shows Wanzer at his eccentric best, variously delivering triple-time horror-techno (the moody title track), ghostly ambience (the decidedly lunar "Fabrics"), delay-laden, cymbal-heavy beatscapes ("Lotraf"), and impossible-to-pigeonhole experimental exotica ("Thurston Moog"). The whole thing bristles with in-your-face attitude, as if Wanzer really doesn't care what listeners think. That makes Power Outage all the more alluring.

Review: Throughout his career, L.I.E.S. regular Beau Wanzer has proved adept at delivering decidedly fuzzy, lo-fi workouts that variously draw influence from industrial, EBM, techno and electro. He's at it again on "Do The Spider Shimmy", a tidy ten-inch containing six wonderfully wayward cuts. It's a noticeably stripped-back affair, with most of the cuts existing of little more than sparse but heavy basslines, occasional electronics, minimalist electro beats and the odd droning, stylized vocal. Highlights come thick and fast, from the gently spacey synth-scape "Never Look Back" and the buzzing simplicity of "You Can't Stand On Broken Shoes", to the lo-fi no wave pop of "Choice Curve" and the raw, laid back electro sleaze of the title track.

Straight UP (7:52)
Review: With roots in electro, hip-hop, house and techno, you can never quite be sure what Orlando Voorn will serve up next. On this top-notch ten-inch single - his first for NOUN - he's in full on techno mode, puffing out his chest and striding confidently towards peak-time dancefloors. The legendary Dutch producer first offers up 'Infinite Voyage', a slamming, warehouse-ready workout that wraps buzzing, mutant electronic lead lines and star-fall around stomping beats and booming bass. On 'Straight UP' he opts for darker, bolder, stabbing bass, alien-sounding bleeps, jazzy synth stabs, heady aural textures and another tough-as-teak drum track.

Mutuality
Review: German producer Vertical67 remembers the good times on this fine Lunardisko debut, presenting a three track journey through the deepest realms of dreamy electro. We launch with the expansive production "In Space" where brisk 808 patterns drive delicately onwards through a rich backdrop of kaleidoscopic warmth, a real sense of melodic intuition apparent throughout. Flip the 10" over and ease down to 33rpm for the title track which presents a nice contrast between the jagged, menacing acid modulations and the skipping playful house grooves that demonstrate there's more to Vertical67's palette than straight up electro, though subtle remnants remain. Yearning distant female harmonies floating around the channels of "Mutuality" expertly add that extra element of melancholy to this brooding production.

Vatican Shadow - "Bunkerterror" (7:10)
Ancient Methods - "Bunkerterror" (5:37)
Review: A gnarly double header up next on Dominick Fernow's notorious Hospital Productions, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. He dons the reverb Vatican Shadow moniker for his take on "Bunkerterror" a blistering example of 'war techno' if we've ever heard it. This steely and pitch black epic reachers near tribal moments with spitfire military rhythm arrangements. On the flip, Ancient Methods provides his take on the track and other than the occasional metal strikes, his version is less industrial and more hypnotic style techno with its grumbling monosynth bass and heads down/strobe-lit feel throughout. These two cuts were said to be inspired by their occasional back-to-back live and-DJ sets, with Fernow providing the "New York" side (naturally) and Michael Wollenhaupt (Ancient Methods) obviously turning in the "Berlin" side. Dangerous gear right here, handle with extreme caution!

Review: A new Vatican Shadow release is always greeted with near adoration here at Juno Towers. Dominick Fernow's shadiest guise is still his best work, and this is especially true when his has 2 slabs of vinyl with which to express his ideas. As you can imagine, Luxor Necropolitics is a lingering, tenebrous cloud of industrial electronics and contained power noise. The moments that do transform into techno are still made up of the same rough materials that characterise all Vatican Shadow track, and that is a pale, unforgiving glow of sounds that never seem to get repetitive. Class.
