Review: Distant Worlds HQ has tasked 4 sonic scientists, spaced intermittently throughout the earth, to each intercept a transmission on behalf of the electronic music community. Tagwell Woods steps up first with a mournful, melancholic but beautiful interpretation of hardware-based electronica. Castel unearths a track from the mid 90s telling of a progressive approach to acoustics. Flip over for a downtempo trip into the future past courtesy of label fave, Mihail P and HOLOVR tops this release off with an acidic excursion into an expanded state of consciousness.
Review: After a sold-out release on Courtesy of Balance which gained huge support and plays from some key DJs, Nat Wendell returns to his own imprint with another dancefloor heavy, 3track EP. "Reality" kicks of the 3 track EP with some pulsating stabs, mixed with trippy underlays over a swingy stripped back Deep House rhythm. Flip the record and you're presented with a bouncy, yet dubby adventure "Can't Stop". The title track "Renditions" doesn't let up with any of the deep energetic tones set. Here Nat teases out a deeper yet up tempo way to end the release.
Review: After releasing a track via Ben Sims' Tribology compilation in 2018 VIL drops his 'Ritmica EP' on the British DJ's legendary Hardgroove imprint this October.
Previous output for Synewave, Analog Solutions and Planet Rhythm have won Lisbon's VIL support from across the techno community and the 'Ritmica EP's propellant cuts continue a strong discography.
Opener '97-1' is an urgent heads down affair that rarely takes a breath, instead relying on the ebb and flow of pads to provide contrast to the undulating bass and punchy rhythm track. 'Field', taken from last year's Tribology comp, is next up and unfolds a little more slowly with creeping breakbeats laying the grit atop a detailed hypnotic groove. On the flip, 'Breaker' and 'Hawav' go for the late-night dance floor assault from the off, the former employing breaks and phased, percussive lead sounds to substantial effect while the latter lets loose with distorted kicks and chewy, arpeggiated bass.
Review: Italian crew Unknown Collective come correct on this latest Purism joint as they drop some seriously bumping deep house heat to get bodies popping with approval. "Nodi" is the consummate A side jam, all exuberant energy and rock solid functionality, just like a DJs best friend should be. "Virgo" is, on the surface, a slinkier affair, but don't be fooled as there's some serious weight in that bassline which will absolutely rock on a proper soundsystem. "Arya" is the dreamier cut on the record - the groove is still solid, but there's a dreamy tone to the pad hovering in the background and the track is sprinkled with all kinds of extra sonic delights to toy with your mind at the hazy end of the dance.
Review: Politics Of Dancing Records celebrate their 5th anniversary with two various artists vinyls, involving a solid line up of confirmed and promising producers. Here is the second part featuring the talented Chris Stussy, Djoko & T. Jacques, Michael James and Jamahr, all delivering some serious deep house and fine tech house tracks, tailored for demanding dancefloors.
Review: Joe Lucas creates music under a few monikers most often as Causa and notably has appeared on Tusk Wax, Boogie Box and Birdie. The Causa sound elegantly touches on deep house grooves and melodic techno but with contemporary style and is an obvious choice for the Verdant family. The Locks EP is released as Sixtyone leaning towards Detroit flavours with intricate percussion layered with warm soulful keys. Previous releases have attracted high profile remixes from Kuniyuki, Luv Jam and Young Marco and that trend continues. On the flip of The Locks Stojche provides a burly, peak time reshape of Zelo upping the Detroit vibes. Hiver's reshape of the delicate Tregnanton original adds a firm kick, swinging bassline and heady 303 sparkle with dazzling effectiveness.
Review: The re-launched Secretsundaze label continues to spread it's wings with the signing of Lisbon born, London based Silvestre.The push and pull of influences from his own and adopted countries have combined to find him a unique sound that embraces rap, R&B, reggaeton as well as breaks and woozy pads from UK hardcore and house. Mixing samples, his own voice and continuing the fusion of reggaeton and breakbeat/techno from previous releases, the Silvestre Is Boss EP aims for a hazy vibe.AAAs Silvestre explains: The pad and synth choices on this EP are picked specifically to sound dreamy, a dream where you arrive at the club but the party is already finished, which sucks." Silvestre began making his name in 2015 with his first release on the Diskotopia label from Tokyo and followed that up with appearances on Creme Organization and Paraiso. He then dropped the killer 'All The Things' EP of mid-tempo party bangers on his own Padre Himalaya label which reached the top 30 of Phonica's illustrious Singles of the Year list. The Silvestre Is Boss EP is his strongest work to date with 5 tracks of quality floor and headphone directed material that perfectly balances the need for playful melody and harmony with tough grooves and synthetic ambience. Drafted in on remix duty is Secretsundaze fave D.K. (Antinote records) who takes EP heater 'Fuego', dialling down the breakbeats for a smoother trip.

'Route 909' serves up emotive melodies rooted down with a heavy kick before working the keys hard to maximum effect. 'Flyby' is a beautiful moment of electronic bliss reminiscent of the great Aphex Twin, while the acid soaked '1111' is a certified dance floor bomb. Shinra isn't adverse to switching tempos and beats and can also deliver flawless techno. The cleverly structured and melodically complex 'On & On' rounds up the wax with a track that makes you want to drift away on the dance-floor, prepare to be transported to a future world where machines have emotions.
Review: Amadeo Savio is next up on Vigenere, the label that has thus far presented a whole host of unknown names in the field of minimal techno all bound together by a shared classiness in their production style. Savio's approach is deep and dubby on opening cut "Isolat", one primed for the after hours. "Trance Later" has a slightly more forthright approach, but there's still plenty of mellow delights to be found in the synth department to keep you chilling. "Encor" heads into more typically minimal pastures, while "Kassion" explores broken beat patterns and fragmented samples with scintillating results.

Review: Spanish deep house ambassador Jose Rico lands on Chubby with a sultry collection of high pedigree jams that will sink under your skin, like the best machine soul should. There's definitely a whiff of Detroit about opening cut "Can't Be To Paradise," but it's offset by a Mediterranean mellow tint to the dynamic hardware interplay. "Four Eyes" has a spacier feel thanks to a particularly fizzy pad tone and some artful reverb, while "Ind Soul" is a melancholic jam shot through with lingering keys and a bubbling acid line dedicated to Fon. On the B side, "Gem Vmu" lightens the mood with some sprightly piano, and then "Juno Space" takes us out of orbit once more with some gorgeous lead lines that fall like pearl drops around Rico's tasteful grooves.
Review: Unknown Berlin area label/producer RECYCLED makes an outstanding debut release. Classic soundings, perfect structure and a styling that clearly makes reference on oldschool Techno. The record means busyness from the beginning with the floor heater Industries, followed by the steady firm beats Block. In B Side, Energy is probably the strongest track on the release and Skynet brings some chords and colors, adding class and deepness to this awesome 12".
Review: Here's some good news: the second salvo from nascent label Nuances de Nuit is every bit as alluring as its predecessor. It follows a similar blueprint, too, offering up a quartet of cuts from emerging artists. Politics of Dancing get the ball rolling via "When The Morning Comes", a picturesque peak-time throb-job that layers twinkling piano motifs and starry synth stabs atop non-stop beats and thrusting synth-bass. Akyra offers up a dreamy, ear-pleasing fusion of rolling tech-house and spacey deep house (the excellent "Rizla"), while Karaba's "Floating Mind" is a tough but drowsy deep house bumper built around sturdy beats and squelchy electronic bass. Last -but by no means least - is Cosmic JD and Jenta's pleasingly wonky "Spencer Landoff", where off-kilter electronics, jaunty bass and inter-dimensional melodies ricochet off hip-swinging deep-tech drums.
Review: After taking time out to search for the right blend of carefully curated tracks, Bristol-based dancefloor futurists Innate return with a third multi-artist EP - shot through with melody, warmth and soul.
A quartet of timeless-sounding tracks full of stargazing sounds, undulating acid lines, far-sighted electronics and crackling beats, the A side kicks off with Perseus Traxx's "Drifting In Space": a loose-limbed exercise in analogue house deepness that wraps slowly shifting pads, meandering melodies and pulsating TB-303 motifs around broken house drums.
Welcoming Australian scene stalwart Ewan Jansen to the fray with "Sinders", he effortlessly blurs the boundaries between far-sighted, Motor City style techno and the kind of head-in-the-clouds analogue sounds that have always been his forte.
On the flip, Reedale Rise adds his touch with "Coral". In keeping with the brilliance of his 2018 debut album "Luminous Air", he drops a colourful, picturesque voyage into deep electro territory rich in ear-catching melodies, engaging chord sequences and crunchy machine percussion. To round, label co-founder Owain K returns with "Teifi", another ultra-deep treat: an enveloping, dancefloor excursion rich in fluttering lead lines, slowly expanding chords, vintage bass and punchy drums. A fitting conclusion to Innate's latest immaculate, eyes-closed voyage."
Review: Adeen Records with another spectacular release. This time, they're offering up a double lp re-release of remixed classics of the imperial Lee "Scratch" Perry 1997dub techno infused album "TECHNOMAJIKAL. With stellar remixes from Camille and DJ Boring giving it an updated futuristic sound while keeping it still techno at heart.
Review: Emerging out of the mist once more to impart their mystical twists on the dance music tradition, the elusive entities behind UntilMyHeartStops keep things consistently ambiguous as they present hitherto unknown producer Okand Konstnar. Wherever this sonic traveler originates from, their sound flings far and wide, not least on the insistent ethnic percussion stomp of opening track "Price Tags". "Soft Stomp" places greater emphasis on cyclical swirls of melody, before "Blue Ink Inverted" plots a course for intricate patterns reminiscent of label boss Leif. "Sundialist" closes the record on a hazy, transcendental tip that seals the deal on this wonderful, pointedly mysterious release.
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Trelik reach into their recent archives with a much needed repress of Whalesong, the label's 2011 debut from UK producer OCH. With a compulsive passion for the dying art of crate-digging combined with a love for modern synthesis techniques the now Sweden based OCH manages to put together a 12" that could easily be described as psychedelic Chicago. "Whalesong" is a pulsating floor work-out which references the US greats whilst building an emotive sub-aqua soundscape. "Blind is The Wind" follows with a sneaky chord driven spoken interlude which creates an air of tension before climaxing into "Last Chance Saloon".

Getting straight back into the stride they hit on 'Different Strokes', the duo land a double whammy of deeply swung grooves laced with airy Detroit influences.
Laying down the law with "Straight to the Source", the pair conjure up a cheeky homage to the garage influenced sounds of the late 90's. Featuring a full level of bass in your face, jacking beats and super catchy off kilter stabs - there's no mistaking a groove like this... they really do mean business.
On the flip they revisit 'Hypnotonic.' The "West Side Shuffle" version is similarly sparse in feel to the original, yet strikes a fresh balance as less pervasive percussion bounces around to tight rhythmic bass end pulses, dubbed up vocals and subtle effected tweaks. Continuing to capture a less frenzied moment, this new take will certainly please the heads down massive.
Review: The latest transmission on Aesthetic comes from Nolga, previously spotted alongside Michael James on the Hoarder label. The sound on this record is pure, classy minimal house executed with a fine ear for detail, leading in with the deep tracking "34100" before locking into the equally immersive "XYZ". The shuffle is strong on this 12", keeping up on the flip with the subtly dubby, utterly funky "Line Of Questioning" before launching into the crafty, bouncy tones of "Shelter". Immaculately produced with maximum body response in mind, this is another strong outing for Aesthetic and a promising next step for a highly promising producer.
Review: Mysticisms' is delighted to reissue Nail's timeless debut release, Cassiopeia. Appearing on the DiY Collective's 'Strictly 4 Groovers' compilation album for Warp Records in 1993, the original appears as a stand alone at last and is backed with a specially created 2019 Remix. Starting in 1989 and centered around Nottingham, the collective, also known as DiY Sound System, were a focal point for the burgeoning house scene in the midlands. Promoting an alternative take on post-acid house's creeping commercialisation, DiY kept to simple ethos of good music and a good party and were at the forefront of the new Free Party movement. Alongside parties, the collective set up a studio and label and young Neil Tolliday was introduced by in-house engineer Damian Stanley. 'Nail' was born and during studio downtime, the 18 year old wrote Cassiopeia around the S1000 sampler, Juno 106, Oberheim Matrix 1000 and Roland SH101. Cassiopeia became the stand out inclusion on the compilation and rightly, is still highly prized. Fitting in and outside the Deep House vibe DiY were known, it fuses elements of ambient and even trance, with a beautiful arpeggio and vocal sample atop simple, but killer bass line and claps. Tolliday's 2019 Remix is a fitting accompaniment, stretching towards dub techno before house kicks back perfectly for today's heads. Bounce the Mystery.
