Drew Is A Dog Eater (4:38)
Seedless Grins (8:15)
Beaches Of Leeches (2:57)
Review: Given the DIY ethic at the heart of both Nation and LIES, its little surprise that Beau Wanzer, a close associate of both labels, has chosen to self-release much of his vast archive of material. Following a superb debut LP last year, four more cuts from the Wanzer studios are presented on this untitled 12". Overall it's a record that is quite typical of Wanzer's solo work, with vintage hardware and nightmarish textures combining to create a quartet of end-of-days jams. There's plenty of variety within the four tracks, though; contrast, for example, the industrial-influenced, off-key techno throb of "Beaches of Leeches", with the wonky experimental curiosity "Drew Is A Dogeater". Best of all, though, is opener "Beefhearts", a suitably distorted, gritty and aggressive foray into off-kilter electro territory.

Review: Yes! Nation affiliate Beau Wanzer comes through with a self released collection of archival cuts drawn from his personal vat of recordings made between 2002-08 and it's basically 12 examples of how to rule. For the most part, Wanzer draws from a similar palette to the recent Power Outage 10" for Traxx's Nation, delivering short and sharp experiments in mangled hardware and dizzying vocals that have a clear nod to early wave and primitive electronics but still retain that distinct Beau Wanzer charm. Wedged in amongst them are a few cuts the more fearless selectors out there will totally love, such as "I Don't Even Want To" and "23132", whilst the fuzzy kosmiche of closing track "Headspace" is a true palate cleanser.

Review: With the anonymous Anom Vitruv's recent Demos EP for Going Good still on heavy rotation here at Juno HQ, the producer makes a swift return on the German ZCKR label. Deftly showcasing the producer's talents for immersive soundscapes and weighty techno of the dub-leaning variety, the "AI" track of this Untitled EP sees distorted vocals and claustrophobic atmospherics give way to weighty swung beats and sweeping synthetic vistas, something almost like Bee Mask collaborating with Andy Stott. On the flip, "BI" somehow combines the tones of '90s ambient with scorched industrial noise narrated by a sinister vocal. "BII" is an even more extreme trip through texture, where deathly drums and found sound stalk a desolate wasteland of analogue sound. Highly recommended to fans of Blackest Ever Black's output - this is some next level stuff from Anom Vitruv.

Tribalz
Review: Formally a long running Moscow club night that booked Kode9, Digital Mystikz, Loefah Pearson Sound, Untold, Bok Bok and more, Capital Bass expanded to incorporate a record label roughly a year ago and hasn't looked back since. Choosing to focus on local home grown talent, the fourth release from Capital Bass introduces the St Petersburg pairing Formally Unknown whose debut offering showcases their potential. The tough faced "Untitled" opens proceedings on a steadfastly bass-flecked techno tip - you could see Loefah dropping this mid set at a Swamp81 night - whilst "Tribalz" offers a demonstration of how well Formally Unknown can utilise space and features quite the weighty kick!

Untitled (Hieroglyphic Being re-played)
Review: Supposedly a key component of Estonia's underground music scene two decades ago, Hypnosaurus were comprised of two members obsessed with Cabaret Voltaire and US electronic music, who made their live tape jams using a collection of decrepit hardware and Soviet synthesisers. Untitled sees Estonian label Porridge Bullet retrieve a track previously only available on a limited run of cassettes from 1991 and press it to vinyl; given the krautrock and cosmic jazz influences at play in the striking "Untitled", that the label have enlisted Hieroglyphic Being to "re-play" the original for the B-side is an inspired move, turning in a warped house version that's as stern as the original is delicate.

Review: After 19 years in the game, techno veteran Jens "Lowtec" Kuhn is still going strong. While he's recently been in a nostalgic mood - as reissues of early material prove - Kuhn is still capable of producing fresh, high quality material. There's much to enjoy about this first EP for new Malmo label Blundar, from the loud tape hiss, spooky melodies and weirdo ambient dub intent of "Track 2", to the moody, early Autechre throb of Skam-ish closer "Track 4". Dancefloor-minded thrills come in the shape of hypnotic opener "Track 1" - all unsettling, one-note chords, restless rhythms and distant electronics - and the hard-to-pigeonhole madness of the schizophrenic "Track 3".

Review: Canadian label Silent Season continues its mission to marry modern electronic music processes with the ancient nature of the label's base on Vancouver Island, this time turning to Mosam Howieson to deliver a four track EP of ambient techno experimentation. The Melbourne-based artist has a unique approach that should appeal to lovers of heavyweight bass pressure and subtle, moody cinematics, not least on opening track "I". There's a submerged acid throb to "Ii", but only after time spent lingering in a beatless reverie. Loaded with surprises at every turn, this record has a lot of depth that should it rewarding faithful listeners for a long time to come.

Review: Blundar is a label shrouded in mystery, although it seems aligned with artists like Lowtec and those orbiting crews like Smallville. The latest transmission on the dusty house imprint comes from STL, whose disheveled sounds is a natural fit for what has come before on Blundar. "Track 1" peers through a thick haze of smoke, exhaling pads and drones and keeping the bass pulsing throughout. The rest of the EP is given over to experimental and ambient tones, with the second track on Side B being an especially arresting piece loaded with melancholic contemplation. It's another strong addition to the Blundar repertoire, and another example of STL's skills and adaptability in the studio.

Review: Oh boy, another fine episide of L.A. Club Resource has dropped on us! Since the first Delroy Edwards EP on the imprint, this has been one of our favourite labels over the past year. However, this is not simply due to its house and techno releases, but more for how Edwards himself has given such creative freedom to his brainchild. While many were expecting straight floor cuts, releases such as this latest Zipcode demonstrate that Edwards and his tight-knit group of artists mean to showcase their own passions and skills. Zipcode aka Vereker - one of our own personal legends - drops four segments of noise and stripped beats. All apart from "Track 4" - a cavernous broken techno loop - all the other three tracks are pure machine noise from the depths of the inferno. Imagine Kevin Drumm loaded up on cough medicine and you're kinda close. Big.

Mike Parker - "Lustrum"
Review: Repitch Recordings call upon two of the safest names in underground club music to deliver a solid six-track EP of definitive techno. First up on the A-side are four gritty and unrelenting 909 jams from Sleeparchive, inclusive of two locked grooves, but it's "White Angel Breadline" that's most reminiscent Roger Semsroth's earlier, bleepy hits. Meanwhile Mike Parker sends the Italian crew one dirty modulation loop called "Flying Nerves" while the EP's highlight is a mind bending "Lustrum" - seriously serious techno

Review: German techno champ Alex Cortex hasn't released an album since 2011's Kihon on Pomelo, but the prolific and long-serving artist is rarely resting on his laurels. Having released just one other EP from Lowtec, Blundar now presents a new untitled LP from Cortex that should satisfy fans of his leftfield approach to techno in all its forms. "Track 2" is a masterclass in how to work breakbeats into techno without sounding forced or false, while "Track 4" blooms from delicate ambience to snagging broken beat with the grace you can only find with such a seasoned vet. Spanning many moods, tempos and rhythms, this is a perfect demonstration of the many engrossing approaches Cortex can attempt and succeed at within the many-sided realm of techno.

Valentina Lane
Review: Responsible for the first Monad release of 2013, Lakker have now become a fully fledged member of the Stroboscopic Artefacts family with their three track Untitled EP. This is something only the label's known residents Dadub, Xhin, Kanding Ray and of course Lucy have provided. Opening the EP is "Harbour" with a synth line that sounds like something between a fog horn bellowing in a misty port and a suspense scene from a horror movie (or both), and it's simply cinematic. "eeAea" sees Lakker return to something shuffly, best heard on their Deathmask EP for Irish imprint Love Love, while "Valentina Lane" is playful in the way Aphex Twin can be. No doubt Stroboscopic Artefacts are happy with this one.
