There's a high chance we find out something we don't want to hear but alas, the NX1 duo poses the question anyway across a broad selection of techno sounds on 11 different tracks. The moods are often introspective and provide an opportunity to get lost in deep thought and challenge yourself. The dramatic ambient start makes way for crunchy drums and fizzing synth disruption on 'Based In Lies', then dark and hard drums define the monstrous menace of Polarized Soul' and industrial clatter brings the heat on the militant and marching grooves of 'Cosmos Inside You.' Review: 'I Feel It' might sound contemporary, but it's actually a classic track by Nux Nemo, a Belgian producer active in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and a favourite of the raunchy XXP Records who released the gem in 1992. A seminal example of Belgian new beat, one of the many precursory building blocks of trance, both the original 'Fast Forward' and 'No Beat' mixes of the track are breaks-driven entrainers, and feature the unmistakable "hypnotise me" vocal sample heard in a great many dance tracks of the same ilk, to this day. The track features a hypnotic groove, distorted vocals, acid synths, and industrial sounds. Now comes the reissue, with two mega-fresh versions by Trent and Juan Ramos, who help push it forward for the Sound Migration series.

Review: Nthng is an indomitable name in the world of what one might call 'deep lo-fi house'. The mysterious and prolific techno producer released his debut album, It Never Ends, on Lobster Theremin in the mid-2010s, when the genre had taken by the internet by storm with its Leckeyesque rave nostalgia and unbridled emotion. Nthng's first music marks a point before the scene merged with the international DJ circuit, when many lo-fi house musicians became superstar faces. But not Nthng, who still retains an integrity through anonymity that few artists can be said to have so successfully kept up. A reissue and relisten to the album now actually sheds new light on the project; while classic deep cuts like 'Soms', 'Touches' and 'Eternal' are the epitomes of what we remember the Nthng-core sound to be, there are also curveball cuts of the harder-hitting variety on there, such as 'Last' and 'Unity'. On reflection, this is a delicate and precise album, one that doesn't treat the production of deep dance music with so much as a hint of unsubtlety.

Review: There are few borders to NTHNG's sounds. His debut album 'It Never Ends' made a big impression back in 2017 as it mixed up dub, deepness and techno and he has since impressed with plenty of lo-fi sounds and ambient bliss-outs on labels like Lobster Theremin and Lobster Sleep Sequence as well as dropping his more raw techno Delsin. Here he is in soundscaping mode again but also drops some slick electro, downbeat and Balearic sound on There Is A Place For Me on Transatlantic. It is a cosmic work of widescreen design and immersive effect.

Review: We've extensively covered the work of Greek electronic music project Neural Network for a long time now, thanks to their compelling fusion of experimental techno and industrial music with themes of malevolent AI and/or cyborg takeover. Mostly active during the 1990s, the trio were instrumental in bringing robotic ideas to EU techno. This reissue of 'Cybernetics' is a big curio, with four new alternate takes on classic neuromantic cuts including 'Authentic' and 'Mechanic'. For those who like to sprinkle a bit of dystopianism into their DJ sets, this EP littered with sinister vocal samples scraped from future-facing TV documentaries abut cyborgs.

Review: Russian avant-garde sculptor namesakes Naum Gabo, AKA Jonnie Wilkes of Optimo and mastering engineer James Savage, drop their inaugural album, 'F. Lux.' The pair delve deep over eight tracks of cavernous ambiance, pummeling industrial techno and barren, windswept synthscapes, which are perfectly alluded to by Scottish painter Andrew Cranston's surreal artwork. In turns introspective and oppressive, the pair ditch their usual stylistic sensibilities for something altogether more longform and enveloping, allowing for full immersion in the cavernous soundworld. Highlights include opening wormhole 'Aora' and the deeply tense grindhouse resonances of the aptly named 'Hebust Cometh'. Wicked and bad.

Review: Music From Memory's latest must-check reissue is a fresh pressing of an obscure 1985 album by Musica Esporadica, a six-piece collective whose members included regular label contributor Suso Saiz. It's a hugely atmospheric affair from start to finish, with bubbly drum machine grooves and Afro-influenced hand percussion rhythms being overlaid with languid synthesizer melodies, atmospheric chords, distant guitar sounds and aural textures so warming you could probably use them as a duvet. There are naturally nods towards ambient, new age and Steve Reich style minimalism (see "I Forgot The Shirts") as well as the occasional operatic vocals and the most Balearic of sounds: fretless bass.

Review: Beyond his prolific body of original work under myriad guises, Gerald Donald has gifted the electro world many a superlative remix. At all times, his pioneering strain of machine funk from the days of Drexciya remains at the forefront of the sound, and so as Belgian label WeMe gather together this compilation of key reworks from the Donaldsphere, it's just as relevant to consider this a compilation of Drexciyan magic you might not have stumbled across before. Whether as Heinrich Mueller, Dopplereffekt or Rudolf Klorzeiger, Donald brings his unique cybernetic qualities to tracks from Ultradyne, Cisco Ferreira and Duplex amongst many others. A particular highlight is the emotive future-synth-pop of his remix of Rough Days For Diamond Trade, while the slow creep of his version of White Car's 'Now We Continue' is equally show-stopping.

Review: Back in 1997 Monolake was still a project in its earliest development, as Robert Henke and Gerhard Behles were experimenting with the possibilities of computer music while most people were still very much in the analogue era. There had however been some major drops on the seminal Chain Reaction label, and then they released Hongkong as a compilation of these early singles. It made sense, given the way the early Monolake sound trod the line between dancefloor techno and home-listening head trips, and so they presented the likes of 'Cyan' and 'Lantau' on CD, embellished with a little field recording magic from a trip to a computer music conference in Hong Kong, hence the title. Now Field Records have reissued this seminal compilation and given it a first vinyl pressing, remastering the music in the process and ensuring it sounds the best it possibly could.

Review: Since opting to release more music under his given name, DeepChord man Rod Modell has largely stuck to dubbed-out ambience and heady drone soundscapes. His latest full-length is a little different, though, offering up club-focused cuts that mix his usual fuzzy aural textures and dub-fired motifs with up-tempo techno rhythms. By his standards, it's a very forthright set, with highlights including the noise-soaked stomp of "Reiki", the thrusting heaviness of "ITO", the hypnotic slam of "Jade" - where breezy, early morning electronics flutter away above tough drums and a mind-altering bassline - and the boisterous peak-time techno anthem "Scrawler".

Review: Woody McBride and Dave Stevens worked together as Modal back in the mid-90s. Hardcore diggers have been banging their beats for a while but they're not that easy to find so thankfully the Sounds label reissues this collection go thumpers from 1997. It is a hefty double back of raw but soulful beats with rough edges, sharp hits and brilliantly unpolished drums. 'Quadruple Take' is a real sweatathon, 'Carnivalesque' brings the fun with rolling boogie-woogie pianos and further highlights included the silky and spaced out tech of 'Beautiful Music'.

Review: MMMH only served up his debut solo EP back in 2020 after becoming well known for his Loop Exposure project or work in the past on Lumbago's Ninja Tools Series. This latest outing on his own really finds him fomented his unique sonic signature across a bumper triple pack of elastic techno sounds. Review: Jeff Mills has long been inspired by Fritz Lang's 1927 science fiction movie 'Metropolis' (as was Giorgio Moroder, whose work also influenced many Motor City techno producers of Mills' era) and first created his own truncated alternative soundtrack for it 23 years ago. 'Metropolis Metropolis' sees him revisit the idea, creating a brand-new, elongated soundtrack more befitting extended versions of the film (which famously was heavily edited on in its initial release). As you'd expect, the triple-vinyl album, which is made up of six side-length suites, mixes electronic and acoustic instrumentation, with ambient synth sounds and neo-classical orchestration sitting side by side. Throw in a healthy dollop of Mills' inherent Afro-futurism and some hypnotic, soft-touch grooves, and you have an inspired and far-sighted new soundtrack to an age-old classic.

Review: Laggy Panteli and Zeno Messis (aka Megalon) were cult techno artists back in the mid-nineties. They released seminal albums like 1994's Pandora's Box and mixed up ambient, Detroit techno, electro, European electronics and their own experiences of London's acid house scene. The good folks at Above Board have been digging in the duo's vaults and put together this collection of all of their best EPs across four crucial sides of vinyl. Review: Zoe McPherson's Pitch Blender is something of a mind-bender to say the least. As ever, it fuses crossrhythms with avant-garde soundzones, this time for what might be describable as the bleakest exploration of her sound yet. Adhering to the synthesist and live artist's usual commitment to dance music without a predictable pulse, McPherson's sound is increasingly ethereal and gritty at the same time, pads, vocals and cruds combining to form an elegant haze. This album is certainly not for the faint of heart, as we're plunged into ultra-compressed, limitless walls of rhythmic noise from the jump, with tracks from 'On Fire' to 'Unidentified Objects' instantly matter-beaming us to an alternate hell of dissociative samples and audio-magick. That shouldn't deter the best kind of listener though, and ultimately, the only kind of listener McPherson is interested in; the curious, fearless kind.

Review: For a long time Gary Martin was referred to as an "unsung hero" of Detroit techno, but with the DET 313 label, run with Yossi Amoyal, he's finally cemented a fearsome reputation as one of the Motor City's finest. With such reputations come the exchange of the proverbial "silly money" for the more hard to find recordings, thus the existence of this double 12" which collects eight of Martin's efforts from the mid to late 90s into one package available for a slightly more sensible exchange of currency. Among the highlights are the Latin-enhanced beats of 'Manhattan', two mixes of the sublime 'In Rythem' complete with a gospel preacher in full flow and a seven minute extended remaster of 'I'll Be Back I Promise' from Yossi Amoyal. It's no surprise to see Martin's work picked up and played by the likes of Ben Klock, given his unique take on rhythm, but there's plenty of soulfulness going on here as well.

Review: Fans of his Detroit techno veteran Gary Martin's previous releases on labels like Motech, KMS and Exceptional will not be disappointed by this latest offering from one of the Motor City's most underrated talents. The full-length LP Lagarius shows off Martin's knack for blending funk, soul and Afro-Latin influences, with a faster-tempo'ed techno sound. It's heavy on the detail, with arguably only trained ears being able to pick up on all its backing samples and intricacies (that's us, of course). So take it from us; from the sultry swang of title track, to the dystopian grit of 'Situational Awareness', you won't want to miss this one.

Review: During the 1990s, there were few techno producers in Spain who were quite as prolific - or successful, for that matter - as Alex Martin. This superb double-pack delivers proof of the Barcelona-based artist's impressive early form by gathering together some of the best cuts he released between '94 and '98 under a variety of aliases, most notably Sideral and The Fat DB. Interestingly, there's plenty of variety to be found within the collected cuts, with sparkling sci-fi ambient ('Elipse') and deep, shuffling IDM (the acid-flecked brilliance of 'Mare Nostrum' and 'Butterly') nestling side by side with deep techno ('I Wanna Look at the Stars'), ragged futurist acid ('Incognita'), intergalactic techno ('Planetarium') and even cuts inspired by the soul, bass-weight and shuffle of the then emerging UK garage sound ('Can Make It').
