Review: LILA has got five or six albums of artful ambient dropping all in quick succession and this is a third from Ludvig Cimbrelius, who has dropped one under his Eternell alias, one as Abraco de Vapor, and one under this, his oldest moniker, Purl. He also works as Illuvia and with all his projects he has mastered the art of sonic daydreaming and musical journeying. Ancient Skies is a record packed with a more intense, textural, heavy style of ambient that builds tensions and in some places has subtle implied rhythms. It makes for an involving listen that is much more than simple background music.

Review: Mike Dred's contributions to acid and rave culture overall are monumental, although he's largely operated outside any specific scene trends (perhaps excepting the misfit community orbiting Rephlex Records). In 2013 he dropped a fresh salvo of lysergic bombs in the form of Overmind, which has been dutifully scrubbed up for a fresh pressing on silver wax courtesy of De:tuned, one of the labels keeping the braindance dream alive. From the jacking 303 workout of 'Sociosexual' to the wet-as-you-like mutant electro of 'Psychoatomic', this is a collection which manages to be both immediate and utterly idiosyncratic. No one does it quite like Mike Dred.

Review: Amsterdam DJ, producer and radio broadcaster DJ Marcelle serves up a second album with Berlin label 'Play Loud! Productions. It is one filled with unique rhythms and rich sound designs that sound like nothing else, all with a D.I.Y. attitude at their heart. There is rhythmic and stylistic freedom here right from the off. 'This Record Is Scratched' is a bouncy workout with bright synths and drilling bass. 'Voted Best DJ School (25% Off)' is a minimal and abstract cut while 'Soups On Tour' is weird and hypnotic tackle for the afters. 'The Quarantine House Party Try-Out' is a whirr of malfunctioning machines and 'Smacznego' is sixteen minutes of experimentalism.

Review: Sound Signature are at it again with their dark, driving and jackin' grooves. Every time Theo Parrish decides a tune is worth pressing up nice and loud on vinyl, it's wise to pay attention. And so it proves here, with Chicago native Spekter dropping one-sided 12" "Pipe Bomb", a deadly and pounding excursion into the murkier corners of house music. It's not one for the faint hearted either, as an overwhelming sense of moodiness pushes ever forward, dripping in twisted samples and heavy techno kicks.

Review: Under the alias 4E, producer Can Oral created his own unique sound of raw, futuristic acid-electro. The A-Side tracks "Ask Isadora" and "Conga Banana" first appeared on the album, Blue Note, released on Home Entertainment in 1996. On the flip are two unreleased tracks picked from his extensive archive and edited by FIT Siegel. These were also recorded during this era, which Can describes below:
"In the 90s I moved to NYC to start a band with Jimi Tenor. I had a small flat in the East Village with the apartment number 4E and that became my artist name for the downtempo and electro material I was working on. The style I called Futuristic Electro because I didn't want to relate to the old school with this. I had my studio on the kitchen floor and pretty much only used EMU SP-1200, TB-303, TR-808 and SH-101 by good ol' Roland. In a way NYC was still developing because it was all about house music. In 1995, I opened Temple Records in Manhattan with Dr Walker from Air Liquide and DJ DB from Smile Communications. The record shop was inside the Liquid Sky clothing store. After a fire in the shop, along with a falling out with the owner I decided to talk to a fortune teller to find out what the future held. Her name was Isadora, and she had a TV show called "Ask Isadora." She told me on live television to move out, have my own shop and be independent, so I did. Thanks Isadora!"

Review: Michael Gross is currently spearheading a new generation of techno producers for his own German label Electric Ballroom, charting a lesser-trodden sound for the Berlin scene, 90s rave. Still inflected with the mega-drops and hoover-risers endemic to much of EDM, there's a refreshing dryness to ADHS' sound, not normally traversed in much big room techno. 'Dancin' Forever' as a title nails it well; both the A track and 'Raveline', with their FM basses and tense string buildups, seem to continue on forever, ebbing upwards and downwards in flow.

Review: The intriguingly entitled Seafoam Fiction label serves up a second super good, super limited 12" that takes in Detroit style house, deeply atmospheric ambient cuts, and some leftfield styles, all from the founder SL Jung. 'A Cushioned Reminder' pairs curious melodies that have you gazing off to the distance with soft kicks and an implied deep house rhythm that seems to roll along the ocean floor. The equally unusual but enticing 'Blue Freak' has more weird and wonderful sounds making for a musical and perfectly reduced deep house mood piece. Last of all, 'Inland Delta' is slightly more traditional with a dusty kick clap combo and rolling drums overloaded with gorgeously molten melodies.

Review: Cultivated Electronics presents For the Floor Volume 2, the second instalment in a split EP series that hears something of a fusion between techno and electro, together with a focus on sating the more cerebral dancefloor. Dutch techno pusher Tripeo delivers two techlectro confidence-trickers, 'Bullshit Detector' and 'Echo Cages', deploying a new kind of mysterious, alien sonic technology that makes our mere digital and quantum vanguards look, well, rather shoddy. Meanwhile, Spanish dub techno producer Cycloplex brings up the B, upping the floor's collective blood pressure with 'Hypertension' and simu-stimulating the human stress response with 'Alarm Activated'. An urgent dance EP with mechanistic edges; it probably shouldn't be handled without a hard-hat, goggles and gloves.

Review: Mor Elian is back on the Fever AM label she co-runs alongside Rhyw for what is the first time in a good few years. After dropping some well received long players as Alloy Sea Elian is now returning to her own name to develop her sound. The first four track EP of this new era is a brilliant one with brilliantly deft sound design, tracks that are rhythmically powerful but graceful; and elegant in design and moods that are nothing less than captivating. The opener 'Itch Twitch' is a real standout here with its flute loops and humid atmospheres.

Review: Organic Analogue makes it to double figures with a sublime new split EP from HVL and Gacha Bakradze. The A-side is opened up with 'Infinitesimal', a stripped back and icy bit of minimal dub techno, then 'AgneffC01' gets more rhythmically physical with scattered beats and hits and 'Collective Genius' is tense, kinetic techno with a real sense of paranoia. 'Routes' is the first B-side joint with Gacha Bakradze bringing some direct but economical drum machine grooves under meticulous percussion and then 'Chain' layers smeared cosmic pads with twitchy details and 'Widow' ends with a heavy heart. No wonder, then, that a host of eminent DJs like Ben UFO are all over it.

Review: Eclectic technoizer Basic Bastard locks arms with Detroiter Orlando Voorn, their dual sonic output being the new 'Drama' EP. The three-tracker is nothing short of a sonic adventure, spanning acid, to dub, to uncategorisable entrainments. Bastard's original 'Drama' nails the art of the acid loop, a tricky tactic that is much less masterable than one might think. Voorn remixes the track my miring its elements in a cruddy ambience, while also greedily occupying the entire B-side with the urban-hellish jazz-noise-house cut 'Survival'.

Review: We're always glad to hear new material from undisputed dub techno don Steve O'Sullivan. This new one on his own Mosiac label finds him facing off with Paul Simmons on a pair of deliciously deep cuts. 'Inner Glow' is given the whole of the A-side to make its mark and it does - with a slightly more soulful sound than you might expect. Rather than pure heads down underwater deepness, it's got a heart warming vocals hook and brighter chord vamps over the signature drum smoothness. 'Still Burnin''is a quicker cut with more radiant chords and a soulful spirit, then a Bluespirit dub of the a-side zones things out nicely.

Review: Michael Kuntzman presents a uniquely odd but compelling EP for Alleviated Records, following up his split EP 'The Underground Files 1' from 2016. From opener 'Dixie Queen' to its closing 'Dripped Version', we hear four ultra-hazy, muddy wallops in Memphis house, as if to evoke the feeling of attending a local squat rave while pranged off your nut on sizzurp. Vocal elements pop out of the mix like shared, up-close-and-personal conversational slurrings with new acquaintances you've just met, but the tracks all nonetheless command a beautifully driving surrealism, the star example of which has to be 'Mystery For Leo'.

Review: The Hubble EP was originally put out by Metroplex Social Club aka the super talented trio of Optic Nerve, Strand, Posatronix and Marty Bonds back in 2003 and it has since become a huge Detroit anthem, with iconic synths and strings. It is powered by a serious hard-assed kick drum and a lush bassline featuring three melodies at once. It's funky, groovy, and sure to fire up any dance floor whether indoors at night or outdoors in the open air, and now gets a welcome reissue that is "dedicated to Juan Atkins and the spirit of Metroplex Records". Review: Supersanity is a new alias from Ada Kaleh who says he will use it to make music that offers "a safe space to explore your senses through the trance-dance experience." He brings together both body and mind with this first EP on his own new self-titled label which kicks off with 'Rebirth In Dissolution.' It's a min epic with both deft synths and more weight bass offsetting one another as the astral pads and distant cosmic waves all add detail to this most out there of cuts. There is a more prominent drive to 'Reasonings' with its loopy tech house drums and ever-rising synth arps. A great start to a promising new label.

Review: All minimal fans know that Romania has been a hot bed for these sorts of sounds for years and now Synkroniq is a newish label that is again reminding us of that. Its fifth release keeps up the fine standard set by the first four and is one that finds Iuly.B mixing up sonic abstracting with compelling grooves. 'Mania' layers the scruffy kicks up with jittery perc and twisted synths for something tense and cosmic then 'Robotop' brings 90s prog techno colours and 'Optimal Power' rides on slick drums and astral synth patterns. Review: Electro is the gift that keeps on giving - a genre that never gets the headlines of house or techno but that, because of that, also never really falls out of favour. Meteor has long been championing the sound and now as Mascarpone heading up this new Plasmapheresis EP. 'Anger' is a turbulent cut with knick-snapping hits and lashings of chrome-plated synths that never let you settle. 'Ventatrax' picks up the pace with hurried beats and sheet metal snares blowing in a stiff solar wind. The Unklevon is pure future music with alien life forms darting about inside the mix and 'OBM Machine' shuts down at a high pace with more unrelenting electro energy.

Review: Privacy bounds into a tenth year of releasing with labels like Klakson, Klasse Wrecks and Cultivated Electronics already under his belt, and now it's the turn of Trust to carry the goods. The goods, as we've come to expect, are high-grade electro and techno with vintage synthesis at their heart. '+(82)' isn't a purely retro track though, but rather it takes a classic Detroit approach and gives it certain discoid shimmer which works a treat. 'Sword, NYC' is a nastier slice of down-low machine funk, while 'Ikebukuro Underground' explores techy 140 in outstanding style. 'Meduse' offers some light relief to play the record out in a more delicate kind of electro style.

Review: A renowned producer from the late 90s and early noughties, Lucas E.B.E. hears a delightful reissue of his very own 'Neural Response' EP, which, fittingly, originally came out on the new millennial cusp. With a cutting, multi-varied sound - as if gazing into the bleeding edge of a new age - we're still met with the vicarious, breathtaking feeling of E.B.E.'s future techniques first evoked 23 years ago, be that via the mediums of minimal tech, downtempo or electro. An impressively stark contrast abounds across these four, whether that's in the opening lazings of 'Serenity', the slumped-over sophomore snaps of 'Sedated', or the energetic return to form that is 'Hubble'.
