Review: O! Kult was a post-punk and industrial band from Yugoslavia that was active in the 1980s. Like many of their peers at the time, they were censored by the communist party that was in charge but that didn't stop them from making music and gaining a cult following. Their cut 'Zvestoba' has been found in old Radio student archives and brought back to life here and then remixed by modern luminaries Silent Servant, Christian Kroupa (who is one half of Black Dot) and 198319831983. They add weighty tech, EBM and moody electro vibes to make for a strong package.

Review: M Parent's penchant for texture is laid bare on this searing and arresting new EP for Zement. It opens with 'Gravel Pit' which sounds like an audio diary from a car-wrecking plant. Twisted metal, fizzing battery acid, and crushed glass all feature over a distorted baseline and broken rhythm. Those same scuzzy sounds define the rest of the EP from the acid-laced 'Ideal Future' to the coruscated funk of 'Acid Thirst' via the caustic intensity of closer Climb These Walls'. Review: It is impossible to pin down Roman Flugel. The German innovator has had more different sounds and aliases than most of us have had disco pellets. Here he is back under his own name on Berlin mainstay Rekids with four to-the-point yet still characterful techno cuts. 'Yes People' with both amp up the energy in the club but also trip out all those who hear it thanks to its caustic drums and mind-melting synths. 'Play Simple' is a double time weapon with spoken words morphing before your ears next to an insistent rhythm and sleek pads. 'Jam' is a wonky one with detuned chords tumbling about the mix over old school techno directness and 'Mysterious Delight' again cuts loose at the afters. This may be his best work in some time.

Review: San Fran's unstoppable and enduring tech house craftsman John Tejada is also super reliable. His sound is well established, but he always does enough with each new release to embellish it a little further. Returning now to his home label of Kompakt, he refines his palette to silky melodies, fuzzy pads and crisp beats that are superbly pleasing for both your ears and your heels. 'Sheltered' is a particularly classy cut of deft tech minimalism, 'Spectral Progressions' expires ambient broken beats with lush pad work and 'Panacea' picks up the pace in scintillant fashion. This might be his best work in years.

Review: Deep techno lovers Hypnus have been showcasing the work of Paul Roeleveld aka Rambadu for some time. Only back in 2021 was he a newcomer with a sound that belied that status and now a few years on he has kept impressing. 'Yatra' is slow and deep, menacing and full of paranoia as snaking synths slithering along a desolate landscape. 'Nadi' has a dubby undercurrent and percolating grooves that gurgle and spit like molten lava, and 'Reis' is utterly stripped back to deep space pulses and a subtle, barely-there rhythm that is full of suspense. 'Setu' shuts down with more unsettling and otherworldly deepness and alien sound designs.

His manic sound has recently taken him to some sold out shows around the world and now comes Tacker, a new album that fuses rock with electronic stylings on Alter. Review: While NPM's first release, which dropped earlier this year, was a classical-tinged drone EP courtesy of Giulio Aldinucci, this follow-up from Brighton-based Mause explores a simultaneously melodious, skittish, picturesque and acid-fired sound that sits somewhere between ambient techno, IDM and Rephlex-style "braindance". He first opts for a deep and beautiful sound on the thoughtful 'LocriLogAcid Seq', before ratcheting up the tempo (and minor key melodies) on the sprightly 'SeqtuningMLogAcid'. Over on side B, 'Strimsang (Beacon 4)' bustles, bubbles and spits impressively to avoid easy categoriziation, while 'Sunday Multi Acid Seq20d' is high-grade IDM/ambient techno fusion that reminded us a little of Holovr's similarly 90s-inspired works.

Review: Southern Italian DJ/producer Uncrat follows up great releases on Moral Standards, Subsist and his own Proper Line label with this riveting new effort which signals that he's really hit the big time now - it's for Ellen Allien's mighty Bpitch Control. 'Xilo' is an adventurous main room workout that sets the scene perfectly before the direct execution of 'Efien' a slamming tribal techno tool mixed with gnarly acid squelch. Over on the flip, the dystopian electro beats of 'Gemini Leaks' mix it up a bit more, and closing it out is the strobe lit frenzy of 'SIT' with its Detroit style chord progression that will have you reaching for the lasers.

Review: Here's some fresh techno from Intercepts, a new project dropping three slabs of hi-def, immersive club material from three different un-named artists for adventurous souls. 'Track 1' moves at a slower tempo and deals in fractured rhythms, all the better to carry the huge swathes of atmospheric sound design. 'Track 2' rolls with a deceptive discoid funk which contrasts neatly with the looped up Berlin techno-friendly elements. 'Track 3' takes things even further out into experimental - but still rhythmical - territory, marking Intercepts out as a label with a strong sense of adventure and their own distinctive way of merging influences into something which may well tickle your ear drums.

Review: Waage is a firm favourite amongst dub techno fans. The Icelandic producer has long been turning out icy and atmospheric rollers for the heads and here he works alongside a fresh name, Quantal, who is sure to go on to big things. Here they land on Thule Records, a legendary label in its own right with roots going back to 1995. They kick off with the textured dub of 'WQ1' which has glitchy sounds paying over the rolling drums. 'WQ2' is much more smooth and streamlined, with an underwater current that sweeps you off your feet, then 'WQ3' leans into the wind with hypnotic techno drums and vamping chords that melt the mind. Last of all comes 'WQ4', a timeless dub with infinite horizons and the most frictionless drum loops.

Review: Dutch artist Tammo Hesselink has always played with rhythm whatever style of music he makes. He does that again here with a new EP - his debut for the Midgar label out of Berlin - that showcases his stripped-back style over five fresh cuts. Opener 'Zero History' has loopy beats and a moody atmosphere that's dark but alluring then 'Nut Wandel' is another heady and hypotonic cut with undulating bass and deft sound designs while the flipside features a trio of variations on that theme - sleek rhythms and evocative little details that draw you in deep. These might ostensibly be DJ tools, but they sure do elevate a dancefloor in sophisticated ways.

Review: There is a big-hitting trio of Detroit techno titans all featuring on this one EP: DJ 3000 is behind the originals which are 'Kazani', a serrated and corrugated electro-techno bumper with rigid metal synths and flashy synth melodies that dart about like fireflies, and thumping deep dub techno in the form of 'Work In Progress'. It is Jon Dixon who first remixes this one and remodelled it as a more hurried, hard edge and alien techno rhythm with bunce in the beats, and last of all DJ Godfather's remix races off to the cosmos with a classic bit of high-speed, frantic and synth-laced Detroit techno minimalism.

Review: Some of Europe's finest purveyors of underground sounds come together on this fourth rase from the One Eye Witness label out of the Netherlands. Asphalt DJ kicks off and lays out a steamroller of a techno banger in 'Blades' which is pulsing, hard hitting but supple. RDS gets for a much more minimal and cosmic vibe on the tight and bouncy 'TH Only' then Ste Roberts brings some machismo and texture to 'Tune Pitch Decay' with its industrial tech aesthetic. Tammo Hesselink closes down the EP with the loose and bendy tones, scattered hits and late night minimal eeriness of 'Untitled 42.'

Nicola Dal Sacco is behind this one with opener 'Wirrwarr' layering in bright tartan chords to deep linear drums. Review: Torsten Profrock’s T++ project has continually spread its wings since conception in 2005. Championed by fans of techno, dubstep, experimental and drum & bass alike, his latest EP for Honest Jons (and rumoured to be his last under this monkier) showcases the amalgamation of styles and sounds that has earnt the German such a far reaching fanbase.
If it does prove to be the final T++ release ever, then the alias will have left us with the most expressive and energetic of his works. Adding a real sense of personality, Profrock unearthed a handful of samples of the singer and ndingidi player Ssekinomu, recorded in East Africa in the 1930s and 40s in the label’s vaults for this release. Skilfully, the producer works these snippets into the complex rhythm structures, giving his music a human touch that has never been seen before. Profrock looks to the radical fringe of UK garage for the snapping 2 step vibe in these rhythms that remain central to all four tracks on the EP. This results in a clutch of tracks that take on an immensely tribal and subconsciously innate feel. They morph new structures from the forms of 2 step, techno and drum & bass around which Profrock wraps twisted FX and weighty sub bass to create one whole, throbbing organism.
So with quite possibly his final release, T++ leaves us, rather fittingly, with a record that sounds at once both ancient and modern. It has a totally unique tone, like a form of tribal language that can only speak to and be understood by today’s culture through these sub-heavy, atmospheric sounds.

Review: Roy Of The Ravers takes a break from his mischievious outings on Acid Waxa et al to lay down some of his braindance tackle on Emotional Response. White Line Sunrise II.I (Le Roy Soleil) can rightly be considered a follow-up to White Line Sunrise II and indeed it represents a similar kind of spectrum of electronica. Roy's sound is edging further into the kind of 'artist' territory where slower, softer tracks, odd vocal diversions and some pop sensibilities merge with the acid, electro, breakbeat and other well-established tropes of his sound. It's the kind of record which could easily broach this quirky fringe operator of UK electronics to a broader fan base, and there's no doubt he's got the melodic, emotional heft on tracks like 'Versace 101624' to get everyone on board.

Review: Roy Of The Ravers may be best known for his lysergic rave pelters, but there's always been a hint of grandiose melancholy in his synth work that suggested there was more to the machine botherer than tear-out acid beats. Emotional Response worked with the artist in trawling through a vast archive of material recorded between 1997 and 2017, rescued from hard drives once thought lost, and now gathered as a compelling ambient release with the full fat hardware veneer of Roy's work to date, but coming from a more reflective angle. Review: Dealing with grief can be very tough. Many find that having a creative outlet proves useful. That's certainly the case for Seven Hills Records' regular Thee J Johanz, who wrote this EP while coming to terms with the death of his mother. Interestingly, it's not a particularly melancholic affair - it's too dancefloor-focused for that - but there's certainly a lot of emotion to be found amongst the chords, melodies and motifs. The standout, for us at least, is opener 'Where Goes Your Soul', where sharp, rising and falling electronic motifs ride a surging acid bassline and bustling machine drums. 'Two C Bee' sees him wrap wild, high-pitch acid sounds and bubbly, sequenced synth sounds around a chunky house beat, while 'Analex' is a formidably psychedelic slab of beat-free ambient exploration.

Review: We're Going Deep is run by Placid aka Paul Wise and it has roots that go back many, many years. The music it puts out remains at the very cutting edge though as this new one proves. It comes from D5, UK underground favourites, and here they offer up a trio of super stylish cuts of deep and sleek techno. 'RedAnalysis' is a bumping one with nice prickly percussion and trippy melodies, then 'BlackAnalysis' gets more soulful and smears Detroit synths over tightly bobbling kick drums. 'Noanalysis' closes out somewhere between the two with warm atmosphere and cool groove to spare.

Review: Boddika's Nonplus continues to impress us with its ever evolving direction and surprising array of recruits that still remain in harmony with its modus operandi. After equally surprising yet undoubtedly great releases by Shlomi Aber and Eduardo de la Calle, Berghain and Infrastructure NYC regular Ed Davenport aka Inland steps up; and delivers the goods as always. "Overpass" is a full frontal peak time weapon that reflects his experience playing in the worlds best techno club and brilliantly executed in all its nine minute glory. The title track is more suited for the pre peak time moments; a hypnotic slow burner but still retaining some intensity. Finally "Dromolaxia" is a sturdy and slowly evolving stomper with some real sinister dub chords lurking in the background. Tip.

Review: A new project based out of Copenhagen - Aether's Spring comes shrouded in mystery but makes a bold statement with this first transmission. WATER: Dancing Moon 12" leads in with "House In Blue Rain," a downcast track bathed in melancholic pads and blown out percussion around a steady 4/4 tick. "Dancing Moon" is a more kinetic affair that works with all kinds of synth shapes alongside some primal drum machine percussion that lends the track a new wave quality that suits it just fine. Closer "Throne Of Clay" spreads across the B side in a brooding, journeying epic fit for the likes of classic James Holden or a more wave-minded Jon Hopkins.

Review: An incredible roster is drafted for this very rare rethink and revisitation of work by the mighty Dutch oddities ZEA, a band most probably won't be too familiar with, and, as a quick Google will tell you, are definitely not ZE:A, a South Korean boy band who make decidedly more chart friendly (in South East Asia at least) forms of music. Instead, these Netherlanders are known for their Kraut, kosmische, post punk, DIY electro stylings, and those building blocks make for some excellent reworking courtesy of a cast from various sites of steeped musical heritage. Andy Moor (The Ex, Amsterdam), Desmond Denker, Phanton, and Begritty (Cologne), Yurke (Dusseldorf), Istari Lasterfahrer (Hamburg), Dubby King Knarf (Knarf Rellom, Hamburg) all offer their own takes on that which was already difficult to describe, making for a strange and beguiling collection which is impossible to say no to.

Review: Despite the French-sounding artist alias, Ici Sans Merci actually started his career in 2006 in the underground scene of Amsterdam. His rates go way back before that though as this new EP is a brutalist, no-frills techno offering that will take you on a white knuckle ride from the first beat. 'Dream' is overloaded with distortion, square bass and rock-solid kicks, 'Warrior' has a little more bounce and funk thanks to the rolling bass, then 'Scream' layers up a bulky groove with twisted synths, wall rattling hits and plenty of late-night menace. 'The Dance' brings some urgent melodies to the party which only serve to up the intensity levels.

Review: Richard Brophy's First Cut returns with Wait For One...Then Three Arrive, featuring a bunch of the very best homegrown talents. On the first side, Carlow-based artist Tr One serves up the hypnotic dub chord journey 'Fold', followed over on the flip by Lunar Disko's Lerosa who's in fine form as always on the dark techno soul of 'Crash 2'. Review: Few artists in the techno sphere make music as oddball and intriguing as Robag Wruhme, which makes him a great artist to remix. So it is that Andre Kronert steps up here with not one but two new twists on the German's 'Wadd Bodun' track for the Odd Even label. His first remix is a gritty one with unresolved loops and grinding stabs that bring a raw texture to the rolling tech house beats. On the flip, the Straight Back remix is a little more late-night and woozy, with balmy pads leading gooey trails as echoing hits that disappear off into the distance. Perfect for 5 am zone-outs.

Review: WaWuWe is one of many alias of dub techno stylist Sebastian Mullaert. It is revered for his most deep techno cuts and this fifth missive on his own self titled label is another deft and atmospheric offering. 'Track 1' pairs the sort of deeply buried drums that get anyone in a trance but layers some celestial keys way up top. The second tune is less smooth, with a more turbulent bassline and drums that rock back and forth on their heels. 'Track 3' closes with sombre synth drones that make a devastating emotional impact.

Review: Darren Nye has been devoted to deep machine-dreaming techno since the 90s, but he's hit a particularly productive run in the last four years. We've been gifted scores of albums on Childhood Intelligence, Exalt Records and now Elusive Intelligence, with Voyage Of Light representing the latest transmission from an artist brimming with inspiration. Nye takes his cues from the likes of B12, Kirk Degiorgio and Stasis, crafting a classically-crafted strain of techno which suits headphones as much as dancefloors. Across nine tracks Nye weaves a spectrum of sci-fi tales with the textbook tools - warm, expressive synth lines and crisp, intricate drum machine patterns. If you dig that sound, you're going to love this album.

Review: West Coast rave scene specialists Michael Kandel and Tom Chasteen are Voodoo Transmission and they have one again plunged deep in their vaults to serve up this reissue EP. One side boasts two dynamic dancefloor renditions that blend rhythmic layers with dubbed-out effects - 'Crazy Jane' channels Debbie Harry's 'Heart of Glass' on LSD. The flip side intensifies with downtempo gabba vibes with raging synths and abundant cymbal action. Three versions incorporate samples from Jimmy Stewart's 1946 monologue in It's A Wonderful Life to add another vibe entirely.

Review: Munich's mighty Ilian Tape is the next label on which Laksa impresses with this new Voices 12". First out of the blocks is the sound system bothering 'Tech Steppas' with its wobbly low end and percolating dark drum funk. 'LEO' brings a more brutal broken beat with elastic bass that makes you move in many different directions at once while 'The Art Of Slip' is a pounding mix of thudding kicks, tripped-out vocal loops and moody synth menace that never lets up. Last but not least is 'Enjoyment' which rides on a thrilling and airy half-speed percussive rhythm that has plenty of height to it. Another inventive EP from the Ilian crew.

Review: Bristol's Hodge is one of those producers with a signature style no matter the genre he makes. He's an adept studio craftsman who designs sounds in a way few others do and he shows that again here with this fresh 12" on the mighty Timedance. 'Voice Crash' opens up with clanking great hits over minimalist beat frameworks that are always on the move, and you will be too. '151' is a more manic and dense arrangement with malfunctioning loops, knackered synth mutations and whirring effects all making for something fairly mind-blowing. Last of all is 'Fussyhead', a percolating and potent rhythm underpinned with lashings of UK bass.

Review: Further Sessions continues the good work it has done over the course of its first fourth EPs with a third instalment in its Vivendum series. It is a various artists offering on transparent silver marbled vinyl that opens with some sublimely supple and bass-driven deep techno with meandering leads. Forest On Stasys keeps it deep and dubby on 'Altus' though scatters in some tin pot percussive sounds and Atomic Moog ups the intensity a touch with shapeshifting drones over thudding kicks that are looped to perfection on 'Time Perspective'. A moment of uplift and optimism comes with the heavenly pads and more quick stepping drums of Artjom Schmidt's 'Silver Clouds'. Stylish stuff.

Review: As you can probably guess from the artist's name, Type 303 likes a bit of acid. It is what defines the first tune here on this new EP for Super Rhythm Trax: 'Protocol' is a wonky and undulating deep techno cut with a mix or prickly and smooth acid lines. 'Like A Dragon' then spins out into the cosmos with atmospheric pads and jumped percussion then 'Dacid' ups the ante with more jacked-up analogue drums and gritty, prickly 303 madness. 'Petsamo' closes out with a more trippy and cosmic outlook that gets your head up and gazing at the stars. Four fresh ways of bringing acid to the dance floor.

Review: Glasgow based DJ and producer Harvey McKay is up next for Drumcode, with a bit of help from his brother Ryan here as Alias. This will be his fourth release for Drumcode since making his debut for the label back in 2013 with the terrific Lost EP. A staple of such esteemed imprints as Soma, Suara and Bedrock in recent times, the Visions EP is packed full of perfect big room bangers: much like you'd expect from the guy. Kicking off with the industrial strength stomp of "Pentatonic" which is stripped right down to the bone and full of "Spastik" style snare rolls, "The Truth" then gets some Robert Hood style adrenalised cyclicity going on. Finally on the flip, we've got dark and slamming tool techno of "Dream Taker" that goes straight for the jugular. A grinding, hypnotic and downright riveting thriller for the peak time.

Review: Wanderwelle & Bandhagens Musikforening's masterful Victory Over The Sun album gets skilfully reinterpreted by some of techno's most forward thinking protagonists. Amsterdam pair Wanderwelle themselves go first with a misty ambient take of 'An Unusual Sunrise' that sets a perfectly dramatic scene. Label boss Sverca serves up one of the highlights with his deep, pulsing hypnotic version of the title track and Anthony Linell sinks us way down below the ocean surface on his meditative dub roller. There is more energy to the busted beats and hidden vocal sounds of Celestial Crusade (E-Saggila remix) and plenty more greatness through the other tracks.

Review: .The year is 1996, and Chris Sattinger aka Timeblind has just dropped his Verticle Disintegration EP on All Ears. It sounds like the future. The year is now 2023, and the same still holds. This is high class techno which has come to be much sought after and rather expensive over the years, so a reissue is well overdue. The title track pairs rough edged drums with dub chords and warped synths into a perfectly bouncy groove. There is more grit and grind as well as a manic vocal loop to 'Charred' and 'Wander The Earth Like Cane' is more percussive and tribal.

Review: Scanone is a producer who has proven his versatility and so it's no wonder he's been tapped up for some killer tunes by the Reposition label. This blistering electro EP features three originals that mix up industrial textures with caustic drums and star-gazing synth work. 'Vivre' is an eye-watering opener with sheet metal sounds and frosty pads, 'Kraft' is then a slower more pensive electro soundscape and 'Vertabre' has a truly brutal groove that will rattle the walls of any club space, as well as dislodge brain cells. Sync 24 rounds things out with a remix of the same cut that becomes a sonic blizzard.

Review: Germany's WSNWG offers up the second chapter of its techno story from revered auteurs Ignez and Rodhad. The sound designs in these tracks are next level as the mighty duo waste no time in drawing you deep into their darkened world with 'Verdurous 01 [220207.2]', a streamlined sound but one with punch bottom ends and eerie pads. The tension ramps up with 'Verdurous 02 [221130.1]', a hefty banger laced up with trippy electronics, and then 'Verdurous 03 [220209.2]' is a potent blend of shadowy spoken words and detuned synth madness. 'Verdurous 04 [220208.3]' closes out with loopy drum breaks and wet clasp echoing out into a dystopian world of modular synth magic.

Review: Bigeneric was the alias of veteran Swiss producer Marco Repetto, under which he released the now legendary Venydia EP back in 1995 on The Spacefrogs label. Diamonds & Pearls Music now reissues this seminal classic, which features the evocative title track - a true zeitgeist which treaded similar sonic territory as Laurent Garnier at the time, while on the B side 'Styrax' is a more minimalistic and rhythm-based cut similar to what another contemporary, Plastikman, was doing.
