Kos (6:00)
ZZZZ (4:13)
Track 4 (5:31)
F9 (4:16)
Review: On this latest drop on EPM, the steadfast UK techno label welcomes steadfast UK techno titan Mark Broom for a collaboration with Australian in Berlin Patrik Carrera. The result is four slices of no-nonsense jackhammers from two experts in the field, leading in with the edgy loops and bludgeoning kicks of 'Kos' and neatly stepping over to the shoulder-shaking pressure of 'ZZZZ'. 'Track 4' features one of those deadly chord stabs which just lands squarely between the eyes, while 'F9' rides the cymbals mercilessly and keeps an abundance of funk in the low end - pure dancefloor dynamite in action from two well-versed detonators.

Review: O! Kult was a post-punk and industrial band from Yugoslavia that was active in the 1980s. Like many of their peers at the time, they were censored by the communist party that was in charge but that didn't stop them from making music and gaining a cult following. Their cut 'Zvestoba' has been found in old Radio student archives and brought back to life here and then remixed by modern luminaries Silent Servant, Christian Kroupa (who is one half of Black Dot) and 198319831983. They add weighty tech, EBM and moody electro vibes to make for a strong package.

Review: TAFKAMP is the alias of the Dutch producer and DJ formerly known as Minister President. A prominent figure in the Rotterdam scene, he's primarily known for his rough hardware jammy cuts, a trend which continues on this very latest EP 'Zonegrens'. Rotterdam Electronix label don DJ Overdose sees to a seleccy of five pieces straight from the cutting room floor, delivering nothing short of gritty toothcuttery. Two downtown city hubbubers helm up the A-side, before we are thrown aside by 'Bad Dream Tuesday, which hears a sudden foray into tundric dream-techno.

Destroy (4:14)
Review: Raw Takes offers up exactly that - perfectly imperfect electro jams direct from his machines. We last heard from him here at Juno back in 2020 on a VA via the Sample Delivery label but here he takes charge of all six cuts on this new Zement EP. '901 Area' opens with wobbly sheet metal synths and zippy pads that eventually coalesce around a nice snappy electro breakbeat. 'Sxx' pairs ambient pads with machine gun laser fire and 'JMS' then brings a more deep and reverential viber. The rich variation continues on the flip so that there is everything from tripped-out acid to hard-hitting and ear-drum-shattering electro-tech.

Review: M Parent's penchant for texture is laid bare on this searing and arresting new EP for Zement. It opens with 'Gravel Pit' which sounds like an audio diary from a car-wrecking plant. Twisted metal, fizzing battery acid, and crushed glass all feature over a distorted baseline and broken rhythm. Those same scuzzy sounds define the rest of the EP from the acid-laced 'Ideal Future' to the coruscated funk of 'Acid Thirst' via the caustic intensity of closer Climb These Walls'. An impressively unique offering that very much has its own singularly sound palette.

Youthman (Biodub remix) (5:49)
Review: Aussie duo Echo Inspectors join forces with yet two more cretive forces of nature, Subset and Prince Morella, to deliver 'Youthman' - in the artist and label's words - a "slung dubbed out, rootz laiden steppa". The dub influence rings as clear as a translucent glass bell that's just been peeled off the blowpipe; the track's vocalist, Morella, has already worked with Lee Perry, King Tubby and Scientist, so this is certainly a collaboration for those willing to follow the threads of dub as a lineage into dub techno. The original is slow and pacey enough - with Morella singing of broken barriers and Babylons - but it's the organic-atmos remix from Biodub that really takes the cake for us, with its daring additions of swing and future garage influences.

Review: The seemingly ever-present underground stalwart that is Ellen Allien's Bpitch Control welcomes Berlin-based artist ASEC for a new EP that is inspired by "the indecision, the fear and the finality of making difficult choices. Heavy stuff for sure, and opener 'Crossing The Rubicon' sure is a dark and moody piece but also utterly danceable. The title track has a blunt, powerful kick and whirring machine percussion then 'Our Light In Momentary Troubles' gets a little more dubby, with fat bass and chunky drums. Last of all is 'Bleep Test (Tool Mix)' which is a brain-boggling and loopy techno cut with fizzing synth textures.

Review: Midland has been smart about his arc as a producer, taking his time rather than churning out releases for the sake of it. As such, when we do get something new from the lad, it always feels like an occasion, and of course the music invariably matches the mood. 'You Never Take Me Dancing' is in fact the B-side opener on this new four-track record, but it plays out like the lead role on an EP bursting with fresh ideas. 'Strangers On The Train' toys with more experimental synthesis and a stripped back mix down that takes its cues from footwork, while 'Drift Into The Algorithm' plays out as the slinkier, shimmering house he's perhaps been better known for of late. The class and consideration just spills out of this record - more than worth waiting for.

Review: Following the summer hits 'Feel It' and 'Radiance', Amelie Lens returns to Exhale and ends the year with the pulsating hymn 'You and Me'. Rounding off her 'You and Me' EP, the title track stands as a testament to Amelie's ongoing journey in the electronic music universe. With 'You and Me', Amelie dives even deeper into the uncharted depths of her musical soul, delivering an audacious composition marked by trance-infused bass, captivating acid tones, irresistibly dynamic drums and an epic energetic surge. Her distinctive and enveloping voice takes center stage during the break, crafting a hypnotic and compelling ambiance. With 'You and Me', Amelie not only unveils another sonic masterpiece but also signs off on an extraordinary year of releases, underscoring her stature as a reigning force in the techno landscape, leaving us yearning for more.

Review: Since switching from trance to techno at the tail end of the 90s, Marco Bailey has delivered a string of robust, mind-bending techno workouts. Predictably, he's at it again on 'Yellow', his latest EP for the Materia imprint he set up back in 2017. The pleasingly yellow record (it had to be, given the EP's title) opens with the formidable title track, where jacking drum machine handclaps, industrial-sounding loops and hissing cymbals ride a stomping techno groove, before dropping down a notch or two intensity-wise via the still energy-packed early morning hypnotism of 'Start It Up'. Over on the reverse, 'Falkan' is a drum-heavy techno slammer marked out by creepy, sustained chords, while 'Utiss' is a wild, acid-fired affair that's guaranteed to send dancefloors crazy.

Review: Data Memory Access is the fun-loving duo of Jacopo Latini and Giammarco Orsini, two Italian artists who've mastered the art of cathartic breakwork. Showing that instantiating ecstasy in the listener is an art unto itself, Yearning For Cobalt comes as their first album, and contains ten tracks that do no less than lay the depth on thick. Fans of Bicep or Indopan will be satisfied, as lead cuts like 'Cobalt', 'Nowhere' and 'Transcendence' deal in chorus-doused vocal samples, spitty breaks and awestruck pads of wonder.

Review: Londoner Otik has been about for a long while now, but his Aus Music debut signals some serious tack-change when it comes to putting true respect on the name of an artist who deserves it. 'Xoul Trap' not only references a Skyrim game mechanic, but delivers four Uk-funky-ish dream-heaters to either quench or ignite the soul, depending on one's inclinations in the dance. The haunting vocal chops and thunderous kicks of the title track, the shuffling chords and speaker-rattling subs of 'Temptress', the washed-out synthesis and pumping 4/4 of 'Inertia,' and the shimmering UK Funky inspo of 'Unorthodox' render this a solid top-up to the rep of UK dance music on the international stage.

The original version of 'Vernacular Objects' appeared on a 2020 digital release, and now Mills has re-versioned it alongside three new tracks which continue the heady brew of simmering percussive meditation and elevated keys hitting subtle discord and curious harmony interplay for that extra-terrestrial Millsian touch.

Waage is a firm favourite amongst dub techno fans. The Icelandic producer has long been turning out icy and atmospheric rollers for the heads and here he works alongside a fresh name, Quantal, who is sure to go on to big things. Here they land on Thule Records, a legendary label in its own right with roots going back to 1995. They kick off with the textured dub of 'WQ1' which has glitchy sounds paying over the rolling drums. 'WQ2' is much more smooth and streamlined, with an underwater current that sweeps you off your feet, then 'WQ3' leans into the wind with hypnotic techno drums and vamping chords that melt the mind. Last of all comes 'WQ4', a timeless dub with infinite horizons and the most frictionless drum loops.

Review: James Ruskin's Blueprint Records welcomes Setaoc Mass to the label's ever-increasing roster of techno artists. As a DJ and producer, Setaoc Mass is part of a select cut of young artists who are absorbing techno's legacy and carrying the torch into tomorrow. Whilst overseeing his own imprints, SK1eleven and SKX, his releases push a galvanising brand of techno steeped in a sense of urgency, ever-propulsive with acute detailing and nods to a futuristic space-age. Here we hear four oppressive, bleak techno brick walls, pressurized cosmic chambers in the form of 'Move In Shadows' or 'The Eyes Don't Lie', as if occupying the potential industrial spaces between galaxy filaments.

He does that again here with a new EP - his debut for the Midgar label out of Berlin - that showcases his stripped-back style over five fresh cuts. Opener 'Zero History' has loopy beats and a moody atmosphere that's dark but alluring then 'Nut Wandel' is another heady and hypotonic cut with undulating bass and deft sound designs while the flipside features a trio of variations on that theme - sleek rhythms and evocative little details that draw you in deep. These might ostensibly be DJ tools, but they sure do elevate a dancefloor in sophisticated ways.

Review: After a time away, it seems that New York techno titan Levon Vincent is now back and making some of his best work once again. He always had a darkly sparse and futuristic take on techno that dealt in occult melodies that were edgy but beautiful. They are represent and correct on this new cassette release Work In Progress with 13 cuts that take in pulsing deep house, twitchy future techno and plenty of raw club beats. There are also lo-fi drum frenzies, icy hi hats over thudding drums and all in all it makes for an immersive sonic sketchbook from the Novel Sound label head.

Review: When you call your label The Purist you pretty much lay out your statement of sonic intent from the off. This second outing is another one that offers up unabashed cosmic tech from the depths of some distant universe. Muzin is the artist at the helm and 'Woone' opens up with mind-melting synths and linear beats that will appeal to fans of the likes of Jeff Mills and Luke Slater. 'Kiln' gets more intense but still makes an art form of intertwining synths and drums to languid effect and 'Parsel' then has a more minimal design but equally heady impact. A trio of flipside joints tweak the template in subtle but stylish fashion.

Hard to pigeonhole but fiendishly heavy and floor-friendly, the four cuts on offer are rave-igniting workouts that somehow manage to sound both nostalgic and genuinely fresh. For proof, check opener 'Brillatine', where a warped, all-action bassline, fizzing electronics, Orbital-style female vocal snippets, jumpy stabs and pots-and-pans percussion hits cluster around a skittish, warehouse-ready breakbeat. 'Eyeliner' is a slightly more rave-centric chunk of heady breakbeat hardcore revivalism with added M1 organ motifs (and a rap-less accompanying hip-house style tweak from label boss Mall Grab), while 'Lip Plumper' is a muscular, hands-aloft house workout with layered percussion aplenty.

Review: One Eye Witness is mostly known for doing reissues of treasured 90s breakbeat, techno and trance under the name Kalahari Oyster Cult but this outlet under their name is for new music. Similar to the previous, the fifth edition is a compilation with submissions from different artists around the world. Starting out the EP is the Montreal producer Priori with the very atmospheric 'Weight'. Those who follow the label, know that every release will get a bit of trance and sure enough, Eversines deliver with wicked 'Vigilance'. For the second side, the 'Bustlin' Monk' by O Fourtyfour, bounces along with a trippy, broken, electro groove. Lastly, 'J2PX' by Reflex Blue is a sick, robotic funker that we expect to get a lot of attention by those who get this record. You can always expect some excellent music from One Eye Witness.
