Helical Structures operates at the intersection of those sounds and more, with a range of different tempos explored from the unhurried 'Fragments' which spits out random hits and has a nice lo-fi edge to the more high pressure acid of 'Helical Structures' with its undertone of bass lead menace. Review: Jeroen and Natasja aka The Connection Machine are cultured techno explorers who put out a fine array of sounds in the 90s on the mighty U-Trax as well as on Carl Craig's Planet E. New music came sporadically after that and included an album on Tabernacle, Presentiment. BlackHole+ was their highly anticipated second release following their sublime debut The Dream Techno Album and here it has been remastered for this welcome reissue. It features most of the tracks on the original as well as five tracks taken from ensuing EPs as well as a fine remix from Legowelt, all presented on limited black and white wax.

Butler who now makes a welcome returning with a new album that comes some five years after their critically acclaimed LP The Home I'd Build For Myself and All My Friends on Left Hand Path. Review: Tobias Freund has become one of the most well-respected techno artists in the last 15 years, releasing on a successiom of important labels like Ostgut Ton, Logistic, Mule Musiq and Wagon Repair, to name but a few. His newest release is a full length called Das Neue Elektronische Volkslied and is released on the very hot Danza Tribale, offering an array of strong underground tracks that explore various styles under the techno umbrella. There are hard, dramatic percussion stormers like 'Rated-R' or 'Nuclear Device'. There are powerful and intense builders like 'Perceiver' or ' Rise Of The Robots'. Then you have mysteriously eerie and dark minimal tracks like 'The Continent Of Reason' or 'A Wise Precaution'. Review: Kirk Degiorgio has made countless great records - including a number of fine full-length excursions - under the As One alias, but few remain as timeless and future-proof as Reflections, his 1994 debut album. Review: Polish artist Blazej Malinowski drops his first artist album on the Semantica label and it is a brilliantly personal work that showcases his trademark sounds. Between Method and Madness also fits perfectly with the MO of this vital Spanish label - exquisitely designed and deep, loopy techno that has its own sophisticated and alluring sense of dark atmosphere. Things start is low, cavernous fashion with mediative drones and groans before drums start to take more of a centre stage on cuts like 'Train Of Thoughts' and the dubby 'Colliding Atoms'. Closer 'Within A Dream' is another highlight with its suspensory pads and icy hi hats over elongated grooves that space you out perfectly.

Review: Domenic Cappello is a long time legend of the scene who has been in the form of his life of late. As such he finally drops a much anticipated and long awaited debut album 'Basement Philosophy on Alien Communications that comes 20 years after he started making beats. Cappello's sound permeates the whole record as it traverses diverse sonic landscapes with captivating potency. Opening with 'Mushroom Waltz', dreamy pads and lively chords set the tone, leading into the soulful depths of 'Midnight with T'. 'Early Flight' builds cerebral atmospheres with characteristic snapping drums. 'Acid Rain' evokes nostalgia, while '3am Jamaica Street' pulsates with peak-time energy. Review: JP Buckle's 1998 album Flying Lo-Fi is an unsung gem of the Rephlex catalogue, full of crunchy flair and all the qualities you want in a kick-ass braindance record. Buckle has more recently been reactivated with scattered releases on Bandcamp and the like, and now he's revisited his finest hour with a remix double pack which takes us back to some of the album's standout cuts bolstered by remixes from the current crop of electronica legends. 'Flex' and 'One For Da Laydeez' sound as fantastically crunchy as they did back in the day, but it's great to hear emergent acts like Crispy Jason (spotted elsewhere on Winthorpe Electronics) getting freaky with such feisty source material. Look out for the Roy Of The Ravers version of 'Flex' - another highlight on this high-grade braindance affair.

Review: Following a string of well-received EPs on Planet Rhythm - five in total since 2021 - Red Rooms returns to the storied Dutch imprint with his hotly anticipated debut album. What's on offer is, by and large, full-throttle peak-time techno, where clandestine aural textures and short melodic motifs ride weighty, locked-in basslines and breathless, kick-drum-driven grooves. It's a formula that the Berlin-based producer has not only mastered magnificently, but also excels at delivering. Highlights include the rave stab-sporting big room panic of 'No Turning Back', the alien drum-funk of 'Transcendency', the ghostly and intoxicating allure of 'Unidentofied Objects' and the slipped Robert Hood-style minimalism of 'Cypher'.

Review: Scott Monteith returns with his first solo Deadbeat album in five years having recently collaborated with the likes of Sa Pa, Om Unit and The Mole. As ever, Monteith's long-standing dedication to dubwise experimentation drives his music forward on this new set, and there are some welcome threads that run further back in his career. 'Brick Stick Blick Blade (Anger II)' features a vocal flow from Black Noble Oluokun, who first collaborated with Monteith on the 2007 album Journeyman's Annual. That's but one standout element in an album rich with soundsystem immersion and techno propulsion delivered with the meditative poise that we always expect from Deadbeat.

Review: German label Cocoon is a real icon when it comes to techno. It very much introduced the genre to the mainstream with its presence in Ibiza and continues to put out plenty of useful 12"s as well as its wide array of compilations. This latest is an eighth edition of the Dots & Pearls collection which tends to more stripped back and underground than some of its other annual round-ups. As such we get dark and menacing techno growers like 'Antidot' from Alex Bau, Redshape's misty and loft creeper 'Ghost Story' and Aocram & Ramsey Neville team up for the ghoulish and swampy techno energy of 'Brooklyn Structure', with plenty more besides.

Review: Len Faki's ambitious Fusion project aw the German techno titan really dig deep into his own production process and challenges himself to up his game. The results were superb and devastating on the floor, and so have been the remixes he has served up on his own Figure label. This collection sees some top names rework the originals into their own style with Pangaea bringing some slick future synth work to 'Space Cowboys I', Rroxymore bringing heavy percussive grooves to 'Tor 8' and Truncate adding his signature rock solid drum funk to 'It's Time (To Move Your Body).' A very useful collection for DJs and dancers.

Review: Richie Hawtin's early music was undoubtedly a product of his surroundings in Windsor (the Canadian one) and Detroit, but over time a more European dimension to his sound emerged which naturally aligned with the developments taking place at Warp. When the Artificial Intelligence series came together, Hawtin's approach was certainly tipped more towards techno in the American sense of the word, but his pointillist beats and synth sequences on Dimension Intrusion slotted in comfortably between Speedy J, Polygon Window and Autechre. Not just a horizontal home listening affair, there's plenty of rave teeth to tracks like 'F.U.' and 'Substance Abuse', as he demonstrated his gift for telling vivid, narcotic stories with the 303 and 909. Now, the album has finally remastered and reissued, sounding the best it ever has and released alongside a new edition of Speedy J's equally seminal Ginger.

Review: Warp continues to comb back through the landmark Artificial Intelligence series with this landmark record from Jochem Paap, aka Speedy J. Alongside a tandem reissue of Richie Hawtin's F.U.S.E. album Dimension Intrusion, this remastered edition of Ginger takes us back into the heart of early 90s techno innovation, when new ideas were developing globally at a rate of knots. Paap had already established himself in the harder end of the techno pool, but Ginger flipped the script with an immersive, meditative exploration of minimalism and melodic structure. Amongst the eternal classics are some dazzling miniatures deemed 'Fills' which make for some of the most compelling listening on this seminal slice of early 90s techno.

Review: Shanghai-based, Malaysian-born artist Tzusing offers us a future-facing and experimental techno record that also serves as a meditation on "China's complicated history of patriarchal heteronormativity, and how these archaic double standards continue to dominate the culture in pervasive, often invisible ways." It is packed with dancefloor highlights after a deep-thinking cultural monologue to start with. All circulating for months in demo form and as fixtures of Rodhad's sets across Europe, every track here - from the snappy synaptics of Nastia Reigel's 'Limit Y' to the non-duped beffudlery of O (phase)'s 'Exiting The Delusion' - drips with an aural crimson rouge; truly a hematophage's dream. Rodhad does the almost impossible here; squeezes blood from the stony style that is hypnotic techno.

Review: Harald Uunk's take on techno may be angular, electronic and refreshingly avant-garde, but his creative inspirations are far more natural. Unseen, his expansive debut album, was not - as some may assume given its sonics and largely dystopian feel - influenced by the urban environments in which he lives and works, but rather his frequent adventures in the countryside. That's not immediately evident, but if you close your eyes and listen intently, the various off-kilter polyrhythms, distorted electronic motifs, ghostly electronics and dubbed-out textures soon conjure mind images of stumbling around dark woods and fields in moonlight and pre-dawn drives down deserted rural roads in the Netherlands' most isolated spots. More importantly, it's a hugely enjoyable and evocative beast, even if it does tend towards the dark, intense and unsettling.

Review: Peak Oil welcomes UK duo Wrecked Lightship for 'Antiposition', a debut EP on the label from the pair of Laurie Osborne (once known as Appleblim) and Adam Winchester aka Dot Product. The pair refine their sound and bring a range of innovative rhythms here with elements of dub, d&b, tribal sounds and deft sound design across hard-to-define cuts. 'Hex' is a cosmic broken techno trip, 'Bizarre Servants' is a slower and heavier dub and 'Sunken Skies' is prickly and kinetic as it flirts with live sounding drum & bass tropes and 'Diminished Ark' as well as with wispy sine waves, refracted melodies and barely there rhythms.
