Notes: Roucha Legio is a 12 dB /octave state-variable stereo multimode filter available on the Legio DSP+oscillator platform.

Noise Engineering received tons of requests for NE filters over the years, and Roucha Legio is their first dedicated release. The filter features lowpass, bandpass, and highpass settings and tracks frequency via the dedicated encoder and extremely accurate 1v/8va CV input. Roucha Legio's CV-controlled resonance parameter can go from clean to acidy-squelchy for bassline joy. Add CV for filter sweeps that will knock your socks off. Of course, because it's a Noise Engineering module, there's a Fold knob. Add wavefolding to the signal chain before, after, or both before and after the filter.

Noise Engineering have made it easy to carry out dramatic buildups and cuts with Roucha Legio. Just tap the encoder to bypass; tap again to turn the filter on again. Want to automate it? Send a gate into the Bypass input. The filter will remain bypassed as long as a high gate is present.

Roucha Legio is also a DSP and oscillator platform: users can change the firmware on any Legio module, 100% free, to any other firmware in the Legio series.

The Vestax VCM-100 is a portable rotary MIDI controller and audio interface system, designed for laptop DJ performance. Tape echo was the first delay effect and one of the first effect processors available for electronic musicians. In contrast with today's CPU-based digital units, a tape echo is a simple machine that uses a motor to pull magnetic tape across one or more record/playback heads. The Arpopone from LepLoop is a little synth-voice for generating a melody or bass line and a chord section at the same time. It is based on analog ramp dividers of which each one generates a voltage ramp starting from a master clock that can be internal or external.

Trig1 and Trig2 potentiometers set the number of clock pulses.

With the Trig Mix switch it is possible to select between a single trigger (1 or 2) or both (1+2) to advance the scales.

The Scale Step potentiometer sets the number of steps for the two scale generators.
In the mixer section, the two scales are summed together to obtain a more complex pattern. The amount of each scale can be set by two controls and can be positive (ascending scale) or negative (descending scale).

With the VCO Pitch knob, the melody can be transposed while maintaining the same interval between notes.

The note generated by the VCO is fed to a chain of dividers to obtain four sub harmonics of the original note. One of these is the bass section with its own filter and envelope, the other three form the chord section with their envelope.

The two envelope sections are identical, both have a selector for different trigger sources:

Trig1 & Trig2: the envelope starts at the flash of the green LED (bass) or yellow LED (chord)
SB1 & SB2: the envelope starts at the first step of Scale1 (bass) or Scale2 (chord)
White & Blue: the envelope follows the intensity of the white LED (bass) or the blue LED (chord). Except for this setting the envelope length is set by the two controls Bass ENV and Chord ENV. Additionally, an EXT CV input allows to provide an external envelope.
The bass channel is passed through a resonant low-pass filter with Cutoff and Resonance control.

Finally the Bass and Chord channels are mixed together. The output level is set by the Bass LEV and Chord LEV controls.

Review: Undeniably one of the most prolific anime soundtracks of all time, Yoko Kanno's band SEATBELTS was formed just to record this 1998 OST for Shinichiro Watanabe's smash success 'Cowboy Bebop'. Following the adventures of the crew of Bebop, a bounty hunter ship that chases criminals and turns them into the Inter Solar System Police for reward, Kanno's zany fusion of rock, blues and jazz oozes cool. The opening track 'Tank!' has been hugely influential, informing innumerable title sequences, from 'Danganronpa' to 'JoJo's Bizarre Adventure'. Focusing, as the Japanese often do, on Americana hallmarks, there is a distinct New York slant in the horns with some Afro-Cuban percussive influences as well, most notably on 'Rush' from the first 'COWBOY BEBOP' album. The Grainity brings a unique and never-heard-before concept to the world of analogue VCF.

While being based on analogue filtering only, the Grainity expands and enriches the sound in creating subharmonics, harmonies, unison, flanging effects and formant filtering all at once.

The module presents two sections, the granular filter itself and a typical multimode filter, each with its own output.

A third output offers a mix of both filter paths. Numerous controls and CV allow a very wide palette of results.

What is the Grainity

Granular?

The word granular was chosen for this filter module in relation to the concept invented by the composer Yannis Xenakis, and which is described as assembling small chops of sounds - he called grains - according to a pattern.

This is exactly what the Grainity does, no more no less ... but, digital control allows doing it in ways that are decades away from what tape and scissors allowed at the time.

Technology wise ...

In the granular section, the incoming sound cycle is determined in order to step through various filtering and phase variations of itself according to predefined patterns called structures.

The controls allow alterations to the cycling phase, cycling frequency offset (tuning), structure selection and frequency division of the filters cycling. This comes in addition to the usual filter frequency and resonance controls.

What the Grainity is not

Technology wise ...

Despite relying on a microprocessor, the Grainity is not a digital audio processor. At any time, the sound remains in the analogue domain and goes through analogue circuits from in to out.

The digital processor does not convert or generate audio signals; it is there to control the analogue circuitry and manage the interface and display.

Sound wise ...

Several digital modules offering granular processing rely on the layering of sound grains, which leads to blurry and cloudy textures.

Layering of the grains is a late addition to the concept of granular synthesis and is not a mandatory feature of the concept.

The Grainity does not use delay lines or sampling memory but is nevertheless true to the foundations of the granular synthesis concept.

The granular VCF in the Grainity is unconventional in that, most of times, it is not filtering the sound in the common expectation of removing something. Typically, the granular process adds more than it removes by expanding both the lower range, creating subharmonics, and the upper harmonic contents in multiples ways.

Advanced Analogue Optical Phaser The Microdose is an optical, stage selectable analogue phaser, handcrafted with our hyper-detailed approach to usability, and tone. The Microdose is the first phaser launched by AllPedal, sometimes liquid-y smooth, sometimes chewy and lush.

Beginning with the Level control, you can always dial in the perfect volume for your phase tone. It also gives you the ability to mix in additional dry signal for a pleasant, subtle phasing effect. This control can also take you into pitch modulation territory when set to 100% wet. Res adds feedback, which makes for those over-the-top phase tones we all know and love. The Depth control adjusts the intensity of the effect, giving you everything from vintage 70's phase tones to sounds from a sci-fi soundscape. The wide range Rate control allows for both extremely slow and extremely fast modulation. Coupled with the Multiplier knob and the Tap Tempo switch, getting your effect locked in to the beat couldn't be easier. Sixteen wave shapes are available via the Waveform control and the Wave Set selector switch. Lastly, the Microdose includes an Exp pedal input for controlling the Rate. It works with many instruments including electric guitar, synthesizers, and bass.

Notes: The Tone Science Triple Cross module is a design collaboration between electronic musician/composer Ian Boddy and AJH Synth.

It features three independant cross fader and panner channels, and it can be used with both audio and CV signals. Each of the channels can be configured in one of four different ways:

1) One In, One out Linear VCA

2) Two in, One out crossfader

3) One in, Two out panner,

4) Two in, Two out cross fader & reversing panner combined.

Audio rate modulation can also be used on the CV inputs to create Ring modulation and Cross modulation type sounds. Each channel has a dedicated Fade control, CV input, and CV Level attenuverter. These can be used together to bias incoming CV signals.

The L1 and L2 outputs from channels 1 and 2 are normalised to channel 3's inputs, which also have their own level controls to balance incoming signals. This allows very interesting, complex fading and panning between four different input sources, to either Mono or Stereo outputs..

The Triple Cross is very versatile, yet relatively simple to understand and use. However, as they say "knowledge is power", so do spend a little time reading about how to configure the channels in the four different modes, and how to combine all three channels together to create a super-powerful Four to Two to One cross fader.
Each of the three channels can be configured in four different ways, and all three can be used simultaneously. They do not all have to be in the same mode, so we could for example use channel 1 as a cross fader, channel 2 as a Panner for completely different signals, and channel 3 as a Linear VCA, again for different signals.

POLYVOX PF3 double-stereo filter utilizes the classic Soviet filter chip for a unique and iconic filter tone. Two independent 12dB multi-mode filters that can be controlled by a single cutoff knob. Turning the filter into a 24dB filter, when connected in series. When connected in stereo, you can achieve interesting effects by using different modes to each channel. A noise generator is on board pre-filter and can be used separately as a source of white and pink noise. Volume as well as clean and processed signal balance per channel. Can be used as two independent filters or stereo mode.

WARNING: Before using the device, turn it on for 5-7 minutes and let it stand. The control transistor should warm up. So that in SOFT mode there is no feedback when the FREQ knobs are in zero position. If you overdo it. The UD1208 chips used in the filter are very sensitive and are never the same. Therefore you will not mathematically get two identical filters. Which is an advantage when using the unit in stereo.

The Cutting Room Floor has been updated and now has separate controls over the saturation of the input signal and tape delay signal. With this change, it's possible to have any amount of emulated tape saturation on the input signal and an adjustable tape delay level.

Housed in a smaller, compact footprint, the Cutting Room Floor V3 provides beautifully marred saturated tape tone and ethereal repeats. Imagine an abandoned factory with a fluttering tape machine left on infinite replay.

The Cutting Room Floor was designed to emulate the sound and functionality of vintage reel-to-reel tape overdrive and echo. This pedal reaches into the 21st century with characteristics that traverse the world of modulation and delay. Other features include a freeze button that traps a tone while still playing, and expression/CV control for time.

This new mode activates a feedback distortion circuit capable of actually changing the pitch of the notes coming in to the filter in a musical way that adds instant variety to acid basslines, creates weird and strange alterations to drones or adds some nice overdriven distortion to whatever goes into it!

The multi-mode ladder (mml) filter is based on the classic transistor ladder low pass filter by dr. Robert a. Moog. This filter updates the classic 4-pole ladder design to provide band pass and high pass filter responses as well as the traditional low pass filter. There are 2 bipolar controls with attenu-verters for the cut-off frequency plus a cv input for the resonance.

The core of the circuit features a fully discrete transistor design with an op-amp buffered output, this allows soft saturation of the input signal to get the classic overdriven tones of the ladder filter. A bass compensation circuit has been included to retain the bass response in low pass mode when the resonance is increased. The bass compensation also helps to improve the response of the high pass filter.

The red mode is activated/de-activated by holding the mode button for 0.3s. In this mode the filter cut-off, input volume and resonance all interact and the effect is to produce alterations to the incoming frequencies. The pitches of the audio coming into the filter also affect the alterations as well selecting between low pass, band pass and high pass filter modes whilst in red mode.

Notes: The Looping VC-ADSR is a 4-stage, loop-able, envelope generator based on the ENVGEN 8C IC from Electric Druid. The individual sections of the Envelope (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release, Level and Time) can all be individually controlled via CV.

The module has 5 MODES of operation that can be selected via the pushbutton LED switch with the status indicated by the five LEDs above:

Normal Envelope - Gate signal at the GATE/TRIG input, fires the ADSR.
Trigger Mode - Trigger signal at the GATE/TRIG input fires the AD portion of the envelope. The sustain control determines the final value the envelope rests at after the decay portion has ended.

LIN response (Hold switch to select between LIN/EXP Mode) - Sets the envelope response to be Linear. The response is Exponential when the status LED is off.
When the envelope is looping, all 5 controls affect the output. Attack and Decay operate, as one would expect. The Sustain control sets the minimum voltage the decay part of the envelope will decay to. The Release sets a release time from the end of the Sustain period to the beginning of the next cycle. When the Sustain is set to 0 you can use the Release control to add a delay between the Attack and Decay cycles.

In Normal Envelope mode the Sustain CV input can be used with an LFO source to add amplitude modulation that gradually increases as the Envelope transitions from the Attack/Decay part of the envelope into the Sustain part. The Level CV is also a useful point for amplitude modulation or can be used for Velocity Sensitivity via CV.

The Time CV is set so that increasing voltage shortens the overall envelope time to better mimic the sounds of percussive instruments.
