  2. Camargue 2019 (6:58)
  3. Camargue 2019 (Keith Carnal remix) (7:53)
Review: Some big name retro-futurism here, as The Advent joins forces with CJ Bolland to offer up a mighty re-make of the latter's mind-altering 1992 Belgian techno classic "Camargue". The 2019 "original mix" (A2) recreates many of the most familiar elements from the '92 version (including the rumbling bassline, US garage style stabs and evocative strings), tweaking the arrangement and adding some suitably tribal techno drums into the mix. Ironically, Maceo Plex's thumping, angry, kickdrum-driven remix is closer in tone to the now familiar "Drumcode sound", with the producer leaning towards the dark and intense. As for Keith Carnal's mix, it actually sounds like a more hypnotic, locked-in techno version of "Chime" by Orbital.

Review: Lemmy Ashton made quite a splash with his first outing on his own TNC label last year, and now he's back to follow up with another salvo of premium heaters geared towards disco-friendly dancers. There's a chunky, looped up quality to "Silver Suitcase" with its insistent bass lick and slamming drums, but there's equal space for soul thanks to the string-loaded sample hook. By way of contrast "Lunaire" fires up the acid flare and heads straight into a babbling brook of 303-related goodness. "Amsterdam" rounds the EP off on a stomp, whipping up the kind of bombastic disco drama that would get Studio 54 moving were it in action today.

Review: Silver Network has been a constant source of quality deep house with feeling since Jef K and Tony Silver fired it up in Paris in the late 90s. Andrade is just the cat to get in on the action, having been spotted on other esteemed French labels like Karat in the past. "Float Left" is a psychotropic jam pinging all kinds of strange FX, piano flourishes and subby bass around the jacking beat, and it's offset by the lounge-minded but no less inventive tones of "Float Right". Sakro comes on board for a remix of "Float Left' that taps up chunky, funky 90s house, and then "Clearfix" finishes the record off with a heads down dancefloor workout for the later hours of the session.

Review: Rising Greek producer G.U.S. steps up on Equivalence with some pumped up vintage techno sounds that take more than a few cues from the UK. "Shelf Cloud" strikes a fine balance between tough and dreamy, using a twitchy set of drums moving at a decent pace and flooding them with atmospheric pads and a slice of vocal that forms a central hook to the track. "Halo" goes even deeper into British territory with its chopped up breakbeat funk calling to mind the dexterous sample magic of Stasis, and then "Haze Phenomenon" heads into deep tech house territory riding a pumped up shuffle beat and swooping pads.

Review: Fleck E.S.C has been doggedly flaunting his wares in the electronic underground for some time, with a mammoth back catalogue of robotic machine soul across low key digital labels as well as the likes of Electrix and Central Processing Unit. Now he glides over to Untitled Recs with some especially dynamic cuts that balance tricksy programming and the rudeness of electro funk with a more fluttering electronica sensibility that's heavy on emotion. Just check "Free Play" with its gorgeous interplay of varying synth tones locked into a melodious funk. There's a variety in grooves to be enjoyed here too, including the stepping stutter of "Skins & Scales" and the fractured patterns of the title track.

Review: With previous releases from some of the top heads of the electronic spectrum, including Leif, Steevio, Arnaldo and more, the imprint UntilMyHeartStops returns with its latest release, this time for mysterious producer Ekeko. Rich analog tape waves sit nicely beside thick 909 rhythmic elements throughout this killer three tracker. The title track "Beyond Good & Evil" starts things of with strong spirit, taking pulsations of warping synths and balancing them with hazy club driven patterns. This theme continues through "FM Joy" and "Eye Ache" but with a wider focus on the dubbier elements of the electro and house spectrum.

House Crime were quick to pick up on the distinctive qualities in his lo-fi, pumped up sound and following on from an appearance on House Crime Vol. 1. BC is back with a whopping great double pack of killer jams from the wild side of the outboard brigade. "Drive Over" has a nagging lead line that will turn heads despite its stark simplicity, while "Between The Sheets" plays with boogie tropes and makes them sound delightfully off kilter. Start to finish it's a collection of wondefully grubby but utterly fresh jams.

Review: George Btp has many strings to his bow, from his work as Dan Piu to his Allstar Motomusic aliases and his deepArtSounds label. His Zarenzeit band with Robert P has been quietly cruising since the mid 90s, although first surfaced on deepArtSounds in 2016 with the Black Inside album. Now the project returns with a limited 7" release for fellow deep house traveler Dubbyman's Deep Explorer label, and the results are as seductive and subliminal as you would expect. "Before Midnight" fuses swirling galaxies of high end synth work with a snappy electro funk backbeat, which Dubbyman reworks on the flip into one of his trademark deeper than deep dancefloor cuts.

Review: Bristolian producer Seka makes his first appearance on local label Alfresco Disco, building on the sound the notorious outdoor party organisers are known for in fine recorded form. "Proto Fish" is an uplifting house transmission of the highest order, while "The First Forest" ramps up the soul factor without losing that playful edge. "Mahalangur" aims instead for a tougher, jacking house sound that provides a variation to the A-side while keeping things soft and sweet. Remixers don't come fresher than Tiago, who turns "Proto Fish" into an ear snagging rumble of off-kilter house par excellence.

Review: Bobby Oroza has long been a key sideman in the Finnish Music Scene but now he's stepping out on his own and is a welcome voice indeed. Straddling a divide be-tween blue eyed soul and rock balladry once again on this latest single, he does a convincing job indeed. His own dreamy flute lines and gentle percussion tumble lie next to churning drums, but it's that super sweet vocal that makes "Strange Girl" so strong. "Down on My Knees" is more tender and introspective but just as good and sounds more like the work of someone from Southern California than the Nordic countries.

Review: Studio surgeons Caserta & Lucky Ry have been busy revisiting a dance floor classic that they now serve up as two different remakes. Once again it is a blue-eyed gem that forms the source material for the pair to impress with their own versions. The "70's Mix" is a laid back soul gem with big horns and smooth, smoochy vocals that will get any bar grooving. Over on the flip, the "80's Mix", has bigger drums and more tiny percussive textures bumping things up while the vocal is passed through a vocoder for that perfect future-retro feel.

Review: Original music from Vancouver based producer NAP has been intermittent on the electronic music scene, but now the Isla boss has finally dropped a 12" of deadly, textured and fresh-sounding electro for our bodies and minds. "Transhumano" features ZDBT and has all the hallmarks of Stingray-friendly future shock machine funk, but the particular approach to pads and melodies has a distinctive, moody slant that chimes with the hazy sound of Canada's West Coast. "Anestesia General" is another needlepoint, uptempo workout that packs layer up on layer of darting rhythms and blippy synth lines into the mix. "Sin Sistema" completes the set with a more subdued but no less detailed box jam workout.

Review: A new project based out of Copenhagen - Aether's Spring comes shrouded in mystery but makes a bold statement with this first transmission. WATER: Dancing Moon 12" leads in with "House In Blue Rain," a downcast track bathed in melancholic pads and blown out percussion around a steady 4/4 tick. "Dancing Moon" is a more kinetic affair that works with all kinds of synth shapes alongside some primal drum machine percussion that lends the track a new wave quality that suits it just fine. Closer "Throne Of Clay" spreads across the B side in a brooding, journeying epic fit for the likes of classic James Holden or a more wave-minded Jon Hopkins.

Review: Three years on from his last solo outing, former Innerzone Orchestra member Paul Randolph returns to action with a very special 12" on Moodymann's Mahogani Music imprint. In its original form, "Not Gonna Let" is something of a deep and soulful treat: a head-nodding, dancefloor-friendly modern soul gem full of twinkling piano lines and heart-aching vocals. It's accompanied by two fine remixes. The first, from Charles Webster, begins as a deep, ambient soul cut, before slowly flowering into a shuffling deep house treat. Dez Andres, on the other hand, emphasizes the track's organic instrumentation further, delivering a superb rework that sits somewhere between deep house, hip-hop and modern boogie.

Review: It's early days for Jakob Panthel and his Faune alias, but he more than steps up to the plate as London label Ornate Music invite him to present his vision for immersive, techno tinged deep house. "5.34 AM" is aptly named, the undulating chord pulse at the heart of the track aiming for the woozy hour of the dance before dawn breaks through. "Reduit" is a more sprightly affair, using similar ingredients but pushing a brighter line in synths amidst the raw drums. "Grindewald" meanwhile heads out into more ambient techno territory with its plush pads and snaking arpeggios, soothing the feisty club-ready energy of the previous two tracks.

Review: Eric Cloutier launched Palinoia last year with a single of his own, but now he's turned to Berlin mainstays Exercise One to lay down some of their trademark psychoactive machine music for the second installment. "Heptagon" sports metallic synth notes clanging out over a freight train of techno drums, while "Prism" takes a more nimble approach to twist out its various synthetic squeaks. "Nitrogen" is a warmer proposition, placing the emphasis on chords and melodies while still aiming squarely at the dancefloor. "Thirty Four" finds the duo veering away from the 4/4 dogma to deliver a captivating kind of broken techno in a soundscape loaded with tension and ominous empty space.

Will & Held use analogue equipment to get their unique sound and say their recording process and focus is on "organic" composition and flow. Experimental, cavernous and non-conformist are words that are conjured up when hearing their take on techno; it's a refreshing and compelling listen.
Trus'Me, the long time house and techno innovator take's a more direct approach with dubbed out chords, fat bass and the original's stunning pianos all coming together in hypnotic and heartfelt fashion. Spinning Plates offer our debut 12" only on 180gram vinyl. Cut and mastered at Curved, London.

Review: As a staunch representative of Midwest techno since the mid-nineties, Fanon Flowers has always skirted on the periphery of the scene rather than getting placed on the pedestal many of his neighbours do, but this return to UK's Sect Records sees a further widening of his reach, with this particular record embracing his dub techno side with a cavernous chord deployment and plenty of metallic hits. Substance is on deadly form for the remix, trimming said chord down to a fine point and adding some welcome funk into the arrangement to a thoroughly engrossing end.

Review: Chicago's Perpetual Rhythms label scores a coup in welcoming the inimitable Warren Harris to present what appears to be three separate installments of his honey coated house abstractions. "Poom" wastes no time in confirming that Harris' work as Hanna is unrivalled for off-the-wall rhythmic constructions that truly channel the freedom of jazz into the house stratosphere. "Bucktown" is no slouch in this regard either, while the swirling smoothness of the synths makes the spiky drum science taste all the sweeter. "Wicker Park" seems to take some influence from the West London broken beat scene, and then "Nuance" swoops in with yet more bruk action and some truly space age melodic content that marks this out as one of Hanna's strongest efforts in recent times.

Loaded with Latin charm, instant sunshine soul and honey-coated vocals of Josue Ferreira, both cuts are exquisitely timed for the summer... "Nacao" is a Brazilian funk with broad nylon string flurries beneath Josue's sentimental command. Review: Cyber Dance Records are back on the attack with a fresh release from the legendary Perseus Traxx aka Nigel Rogers, a 4-track EP entitled after recent scientific developments 'An Apparent Horizon'. It's a firmly machine-based and totally jam-packed affair reflecting diverse sounds from the UK's own rich history of electronic dance music, with elements from the classic Warp "deep space sound" prominent as much as the more usual 303-jacking acid house grooves in the vein of Baby Ford or Bam Bam. 'Lost Dreams' opens the record with a floaty dream-like hypnosis from the depths of space and sets the tone in magnificent style, followed up on Side A with the irresistible roll of 'Reverse The Trend' that takes the groove harder, further and deeperstraight off to the beyond. Dark strings reminiscent of old LFO, B-12 or Autechre vinyls from the early 90s propel us into Side B on 'Darkness Stalks', and then we're transported onto the concluding track on the EP, 'Distances'; an epic closer that opens with beautiful reverbed claps and acid squelches before diving into an inky black void of timeless space-travelling and slow-building tension that could surely echo hauntingly around any M25 rave in the depths of a late 1980s night.

Review: Holic Trax label boss Tomoki Tamura continues his anniversary celebrations by presenting his own work on this third installment of 5ive Years. The title track is a deep and crafty tech house cut suited to more subtle, heads down moments, while "Polyphony Six" keeps things equally moody but fattens out the bass and warms up the lead lines. "U's Floppy Disk" is a more taut, wiry track with gruff drums and splashes of bleepy FX - the perfect tripped out club tool. "High Chee's" lightens the mood at the 11th hour with a more playful melodic line that should fine favour with all kinds of good time DJs.
