Review: New York's Mr. V, a protégé of legendary Master At Work Louie Vega, releases his debut album of street styled grooves, combining house and hip hop beats with quality lyricism to become an instant leader of the nu-skool urban/dance scene and a more than worthy showcase for his current club smash 'Da Bump'. Experiencing V's original productions is like taking a trip back in time to electronic music's golden age. He draws on his many influences and inspirations to create songs that are at the same time thought provoking and infectious, and encompass much heart and soul. Despite being a massive music fan with eclectic tastes, and wanting to be a DJ after his experiences in late 80s and early 90s NYC club land, it wasn't until Mr. V met superstar producer, DJ and Grammy award winner Louise Vega, that he truly found his calling. Vega saw the drive and potential V possessed and hired the aspiring Nuyorican talent as his assistant at the world famous Masters At Work label. In this position he was given a rare glimpse into the global electronic music scene and before long was taking to the decks alongside his mentor.

Chris Le Friant, as he's known to his mother, adopted the name Bob Sinclar from a French spy movie, becoming an imaginary character, part playboy and part extrovert. An ultra busy international DJ and the head of his own highly respected record label Yellow, Bob has produced numerous acclaimed tracks and remixes and released three studio albums to date. Two singles from these previous albums have already dented the UK top 10 ('I Feel For You' and 'Gymtonic') and his latest album project entitled 'Western Dream' boasts even more of this obvious commercial potential, it has sold over 70,000 copies in its first month of release in France. The first single from the latest record, the UK top 15 hit 'Love Generation' (featuring ex-Wailer Gary Nesta Pine), not only reached the #1 spot in 5 territories on its way to global domination, including Germany, Australia and of course Bob's native France, but has sold a staggering 1 million copies worldwide to date, with over 100,000 of those coming from the UK. Interest in the track continues undiminished, as proved by its 25 plus week stint in the UK Top 100 and selection as the official German world cup 2006 theme tune. In light of this, only a follow up of epic proportions could reach the same heights, and with the new Bob Sinclar single 'World, Hold On (Children Of The Sky)' it seems as though he's found it. Featuring the soulful vocals of Steve Edwards, 'World, Hold On' has the rare quality of being both deep and uplifting at the same time. Including another nagging whistle hook atop Mr Sinclar's synths and drums, this follows on where 'Love Generation' left off by teaming the drops of a club smash with pop sensibilities with another lyrically special song warning of the dangers of neglecting our planet - a particularly topical theme right now. This is a track that has the rare ability to cause dancefloor devastation while possessing broad commercial appeal - in short, this is already one of the anthems of the year made with one foot on the dancefloor and another firmly in the charts. Review: Its some ten years since NYC DJ Nickodemus graduated from turntables to a mixing desk with the release of his debut album, Endangered Species. To celebrate, he's put together a mix celebrating his production journey so far. Wonderworld features tracks taken from his three artist albums to date, the accompanying remix sets, and a selection of lesser known collaborations, B-sides and previously unreleased cuts. As you might expect, it's a thrilling and action-packed set that gleefully joins the dots between hip-hop, dub, funk, jazz, broken beat, soul, house and a myriad of global styles, mostly from Africa and South America. It's explosive, entertaining stuff, and, unlike some similar mixes, stands up to repeat listening.
