Review: You will no doubt have spotted Marcel Vogel's handiwork steering the good ship Lumberjacks In Hell, or perhaps even his choice edits under the Em Vee banner, but increasingly the Dutch artist is turning to his own name to get some fine records laid down outside the realms of pure edit territory. This second outing on Intimate Friends comes on like a mini-album of sorts, with eight tracks made up of remixes as well as originals. It's a powerful step on for Vogel, touching on a grounded variation on neo-soul with a house kick in the rhythm department. Soulful vocal spots from Mey, Milos Gersi, Gianni Tam, Khadija and Tim Jules all add to the sensation, heading away from the dancefloor as an expansive EP for all time.
Review: Italian duo Rufus and Mass_prod are back once again as Nightdrivers, shoring up to Holic Trax with more of their infectious club-ready material. Beyond the functionality of their drums, where the Nightdrivers excel is in their choice of samples and textures to add a psychoactive twist to their craft. "A Funny Thang" is a delightfully unhinged workout, while "Stressedout" does a fine job of digging into a heads down, RnB inflected groove. "Rising" switches things up with a broken beat groove that loads up sunkissed soul samples to great effect, and then the record rounds out with a dub mix of "A Funny Thang".
Review: The SHAG Edits hits Volume 4 welcoming David Glass, Timmy P and Two's Tones to the Roots For Bloom roster. David brings a big hitter with Tape Deck with its MC sampled vocal, Timmy's is drenched in sunshine for all the day parties this is sure to go off at and Two's Tones takes things on a jazz twist, with clever sampling but always that underlying groove that the Roots For Bloom label is known for. Fans of the previous releases wont be dissapointed.
Review: Marcel Vogel's Lumberjacks In Hell label shows no signs of slowing as it ramps up a killer new salvo from debutant artist C Scott. "Climb On" is an uptempo workout to capture the absolute peak of the party in the funkiest of ways, while "Hands Free" provides an apt alternative with its slow, organ-led whimsy. Disco remains the backbone of the sound here, whatever tempo the track rolls at and wherever it may head. "Stuttering" demonstrates this perfectly with its heavily treated, head-spinning FX still capturing that classic good-time mood, while "At Ease" finishes on a life-affirming canter of Rhodes led celebration.

Review: Just as the new football season settles into it's groove, the fourth edition of the highly collectable Rothmans arrives sporting some high profile signings! Leading the way on The Claudio Gentile Release is a Foolish Felix dub of Cage & Aviary's "Lean On Me" whose deranged acid gurglings provide a nice contrast to the thrusting Escape From East London stylings of Posthuman's "Make More Men". On the flip Ali Renault returns for Rothmans duty with the Weatherall worthy "The Black Heart" whilst Iron Blu is loaned from Flight Recorder for the synthy swamp of orchestral drama that is "Oiche Shamhna"
Review: Bush is a new project from a wandering musical mind and it all kicks off with a seriously deep and otherworldly house EP that ditches the usual tired tropes and fawning fads, and instead fully submerges listeners in an uncompromisingly serene and seductive world miles below the surface.
Opening up label's account is 'Peckings,' initially a deep and spacious bit of beatless atmospheric sound that eventually turns into a propulsive house jam with icy hi hats, swathes of reverb and oodles of late night mysticism. 'OG18' is another devilishly deep and spiritual bit of house with luxurious amounts of open space in which various pads float and drift about. It's seductive and spaced out stuff before 'Legome' toys with raw claps, swelling chords and undulating drums in louche fashion. There's a restraint and musicality to this track that betrays a real production mastery and, lastly, 'Lockdown' is again a hugely subterranean affair with snaking pads, watery textures and muffled drums all coalescing into a nocturnal dreamscape that gets subtle driven along by rubbery kick drums.
This is seriously deep, classy music that is richly atmospheric and effortlessly cerebral, and the EP overall marks a fine way to inaugurate a new label.
Review: Fatdog Records returns after a break, offering contributions from 3 artists new to the label - The Rutan, Tom Mc Connell and Mark Hand. FDR003 offers a development from the deep house template on the last EP, this time taking us further into deeper Detroit territories. Mark Hand offers us Drexciyan techno in the form of 'Cold Feet'. The Rutan's 'Fable' sits somewhere between Vakula and some of Henrik Schwarz's earlier dub-house experiments, while Fat Dog takes us to the murky back alleys of his mind with 'Jaffa Cakes'. Finally Tom Mc.Connell's 'Juniper' takes us into wonkier groove Rhodes stylings which rounds off the EP very nicely indeed. Review: American label Beyond The Speaker made an impression with their first release "Angels Against Dust" two years ago, a tasty 12" split between Legowelt & Willie Burns. For the latest outing, Canadian mastermind Michael Silver aka CFCF (RVNG, Ghostly, 1080p) celebrates the soul and grooves of house, electro, and techno. Three tracks that balance dancefloor hustle, intricate detail and flourishing melodies. Lead track "Head Up" is a poignant call to the dancefloor, a peak hour house cut with an emergent vocal sample that rallies all for a blissful groove excursion. The B-side is a moodier affair, with "Mossy Wall" submerging the listener with potent rhythms as ominous bass intersects with a waking metropolis of melody. And the classic techno sound of "Sea of Love" deftly lulls us with gentle vocals and a looping guitar phrase.
Review: Italian producer Giorgio Luceri has released a reliable stream of records since 2011, developing relationships with labels like Seven Music and Hieroglyphic Being's Mathematics. For this Blame It EP he points the finger at Spanish label Bucketround and provides a three-track single featuring a remix from Dubbyman. Vocals crossed between Romanthony and George Michael dominate the title-track, while all chords and atmospheres are stripped from the 6D22 Beats version, offering a beefy tool for the adventurous DJ. After two previous releases for the label Dubbyman appears in remix form supplying a sultry remix best listened to in the accompaniment of summer a cool summer breeze.
Review: Dave Aju, Alland Byallo, Kenneth Scott and Marc Smith joined together as KAMM, resulting in a mini-album called Kick Drunk Love for marcel Vogel's Amsterdam based label Intimate Friends.iDescribed in a press release as being influenced by the artists' "love of early '90s MoWax era laid-back beats," it features Barrite on lead vocals (with Byallo and Scott also contributing vocals), Smith on guitar, Byallo on trumpet and Scott on Moog synth. There's a couple guest appearances as well: Damian Schwartz plays some bass on "Sidewalks" and Eureka provides "a hell of a [vacuum] rev" on "Stage Left."
Review: A long awaited studio album of Saint-Petersburg based live-electronic music trio D-Pulse.
For the past few years D-Pulse has released their music on such established labels as Island, Tirk, Teardrop, Gomma, and Theomatic. Mostly known for their remixes, band decided to bring their debut studio album via their very own imprint - Vernal records.
The band's melancholic sound echoing from the numerous factories and forests of their homecity, Izhevsk, fused with exeptional production established D-Pulse as one of the most vivid and respected live acts on the contemporary Russian indie and electronic music scene.
Review: Three years in, Blackhall & Bookless' Jaunt label is becoming a serious force for forward thinking, fractured techno exploration. On this split EP with Chad, the duo take the A-side and present two different versions of "Links". The "Battle rework" is a tense and dramatic tumble through dub techno soundscapes, while the "Bleak remix" pares the elements down to a more focused, minimalist thrum. Chad presents a wholly different vibe on the flip, using rich, warm synthesiser tones to draw you in to "Afters", and then Scenery regular ASOK takes up remix duties on the track with an immersive version that borders on breakbeat.
Review: Eyetone's second release features three club tracks fully equipped and tailor-made for today's dancefloor by one of the most talented yet elusive producers of the house scene.
Leon Roberts' music has always maintained a timeless sound and done all his talking. Eyetone were fortunate to track down one of the true vanguards of the scene and dust off the DATS from his studio for a timely reminder on how the past has helped shape the current and future to come.

Review: Leading minimal label The Untold Stories are at it again, and after their star turn from STL recently they've now invited down another legend in the shape of Franco Cinelli. The original is classic Cinelli, pivoting around crisp, clean percussive lines and the bare essential atmospherics. Nektar Agu steps up for a remix that continues the minimalist theme, but adds some looming bass tones into the mix that pushes the track into a dubbier headspace. It's another slab of refined, stripped down tackle for the reductionist dancefloor, as you would expect from The Untold Stories.
Review: The ethos of M.I.L has always been to play the role of adventurer, to push forward the sounds that veer away from the main label Music is Love and M2222 pushes the envelope to the furthest boundary so far.
Kastil steps up for the 5th release on the vinyl only label with a divine techno ep. Etrek kicks off the proceedings with a kick drum solid enough to shake the bones of anyone in 100 meters of it. With its eerie analogue blips and noises the atmosphere this track emits is so intriguing you yearn for all its beautifully produced twists and turns. The main riff played against the surging drum section will make this track a timeless tool for techno & house djs alike.
Warning follows up with a warmer palette but still with plenty of drive and urgency, the delightfully playful lead wanders rounds your ears and conscious as the drum machines bang the groove, a perfect track to induce those euphoric moments in your dj sets.
Collapse is an all out weapon of mass destruction, with its un forgiving lead synth slowly but surely gaining more aggression and destruction as the drums build perfectly around the intensity, until it drops and your left immersed in this brute of a groove. It's the eb and flow of this track using tension and release that really bring this monster to life.
Dermax closes the ep and in fine style, once again flipping the techno stance of the ep into a deep druggy affair. The movement of the elements dancing around your head as you get lost in the dubby undertone of this track sit so perfectly in the sonic range, the depth and character of this track makes this a perfect track to end such a inventful and cleverly producer 4 tracker, this ep has every right to put WARNING on the label.

Review: Ten releases it is now for Batti Batti Records and to mark this milestone we are delighted to present the second in our Atmospheres series. Featuring once again artists old and new to the label, the EP very much takes its cue from the spirit of the first Atmospheres release.
Young Berlin-based Italian producer Saverio Celestri, who shined on BBR05, the Crossover EP, sets the tone beautifully with the haunting and emotionally-charged Detroit Feeling. Having previously collaborated with Fred P for Deep Explorer, Brooklyn-based artist Jordan (Finale Sessions/Ornate) debuts alone here for us with the wonderfully dark, twitchy and yet persistently funky, Device.
Another Batti Batti newcomer, the vastly-experienced Dan Mela, rounds off proceedings with the stunning 10-minute tour de force that is Tenuta Ken (featuring acclaimed Italian jazz pianist Stefano Calzolari), which showcases to perfection the producer's passion for soul, funk and jazz.
Review: Presenting the fourth vinyl release, Los Angeles imprint Reinhardt welcomes Romanian sonic explorer Akim# to the fold. Culminating in four tracks crossing genres and themes, pulling from influences and experiences throughout a history crafting his art within the Bucharest electronic music scene.
Taking elements of ambient, electronica and techno, channeled through a dream-state lens. The Phosphene EP is created for the dance floor with a soundscape sensibility, making for an unmapped odyssey.
Review: Ant Plate's Vinyl Only ventures continue unabated, taking a break from the Yse Saint Laur'ant releases and turning to Minus The Majors instead. Whether it's just Plate in another one of his guises or not is unclear, but the music certainly fits in with the more exploratory, downtempo nature of previous Vinyl Only releases. "He Looked" is an especially funky number that revolves around crafty beats and warm Moog-esque synth ripples. Things get more broken on "Jizz Jazz", and then "Drongo" manages to go even further out to sea in its quest for the perfect balance between funk and freakiness.
Review: For the debut of New York's anticipated Purple Trax label, a new formation of key players in Brooklyn's underground debuts with an EP sure to entrance fans of L.I.E.S., White Material, and other established NYC labels. Composed of Terekke, local DJ/producer Jan Woo, and Erez Avissar, label head and founder of the respected Weird Magic parties, Wabi Sabi's dusky and diverse sound comes from its origin in loft jams, but tracks like the closing 'Rx' with its powerful dub techno framework show the work of seasoned talents. Patricia's cameo on 'Casper' is the record's strangest sound, a propulsive house groove with explosions of crackling texture and a bassline deeply buried in fog, while 'Babi' stutters along between the drum pulse and its disappearances into deep wells of delayed vocal samples and gentle melodies. Vibes are saved for the opener 'Moon River Membrane', where Terreke's characteristic cosmic haze comes out more heavily, complemented by the genre-bending psychedelic tendencies of Avissar's programming and Woo's weighty low-end.
Review: After a bit of a hiatus, Roots Unit return with some deep house hybrids from their bulging vaults. "Learn To Love" is a melodic dub-house / techno infused big sound system warmer that comes from a studio session with former 2 Lone Swordsman Keith Tenniswood and will be familiar to those who tune into Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space show on the regular. "Morning Sequence" is a lovely early morning hypnotic slinky electronic house jam that gets under your skin and into your mind. This latter track is mutated into a heavy floor filler by Mark E in full on peak time mode.
Review: REPRESS ALERT: 'Something From Nothing' is a four tracker that fuses techno sensibility with house swagger, a voice calling to Detroit's Second Wave while a hand beckons the shadowy waters of house.
Hearts Of Darkness are immersed in late nights and smoke-filled basements, with past form seeing them play Fabric and Bugged Out!. An unhealthy loyalty to vintage hardware and long forgotten code means their music is analogue, not for fashion, but because it feels right.
On the A, 'Sequential Circus' is purest machine funk as a driving bass bubbles into self-oscillation. Next, 'Just On For The Ride' bounces to a millennial deep house swing. Flip it for a dense future dub workout in 'Charlie Don't Surf,' then 'Hotshot' closes with a pad soaked vibe for the discerning warm up. A melting pot EP with all the right ingredients.

Review: Proudly positioned as a label dedicated to showcasing emerging talent within the realms of dark and dubby minimal techno, FarFromNormal return with their second release of the year. This time they're providing a platform to Nice N Trick & Sacke, who make the most of the vinyl space with two long form tracks that demonstrate just how much talent they have to offer. "Senor Memories" is a tribally-inflected experience sprinkled with off-kilter samples atop a driving techy backbone, while "Viola Profonda" steers a more streamlined course through crisp drums and nerve-jangling violin on a one way trip into the heart of the night.
Review: "How To Be" EP is brought by Izhevsk based band, Cetranger. The band's name is a combination of french «c'etrange» and english «stranger». Two deep and emotional songs accompanied by two great remixes. Perfect for understanding yourself and strangers around better, or just some good night drive. The band members themselves call this music "a cinematic electronics", a motion picture about people and their feelings told in sounds.
The opening track sets the scene. Cetranger sound is freezed in the air somewhere over the North Sea, between Britain and Nordic Countries. The unique vocal is travelling by these foggy landscapes build up of the piano harmonies.
The remix by D-pulse turns original version into a laid-back dub version with a bit of a psychedelia, where electrified kraut-rock drumline is mingled with mellow funk elements.
The second track by Cetranger, "Spear-words", shows the true with Cetranger's style and some undeniable potential in slowed-down rhythms. "Spear-words" makes your subwoofer sing along with the track's hypnotic gritty low-end bass sequence.
Alex Neivel's remix gives a track some classy well treated deep house spin. Perfect building block for a late-night set.

Review: Coup d'etat is a collaborative project from Kane Ikin and Harvey Sutherland. Working from their respective fringes of electronic music and produced in moments of respite between extensive touring and recording commitments, the project offers a glimpse into the pair's mutual influences and inspirations; part Maurizio, part Moroder. Kane Ikin, a meticulous producer of abstract forms and polyrhythms, weaves percussive static and drone amongst Sutherland's considered syntheziser work - a leftfield turn from Harvey's brighter moments. Ikin also traverses new rhythmic territory and signals a departure from earlier ambient works. The inaugural release for new imprint CDT, the 12" was mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy and features full sleeve artwork from Traianos Pakioufakis.

Review: Final Chapter was started in 2013 by Stockholm's Sean Dixon, along with support from Perseus Traxx. A label which is happy to let the music do the talking, Final Chapter is now on it's fifth release, and shows no sign of being prepared to letting the book close. The journey of Detroit and Chicago influenced house and techno continues on this release as label head Sean Dixon presents an EP split between himself and Boston's John Barera, who's previous releases outside of his own label, Supply Records, have issues fourth on Soul Clap and Dolly, as well as Steffi's Panorama Bar Mix CD on Ostgut Ton. Remix duties come courtesy of Berlin based producer, Palms Trax, who's first outing was in 2013 on Lobster Theramin.
Review: Shara music emerges with a concept that glitters by love for a very special woman named Sara. The producer of Barcelona Owen Ezard presents his new record label, Shara Music, and it starts nothing more , nothing less with this great piece of EP signed by the mexico-Italian couple Mijo & Rodion. A futuristic sound ep charged with hints Techno Latin and classical Italo influence also with the remixes included of "Chapo Guzman" and our great Damon Jee. Exceptional beginning for this label and where in addition They have prepared for us a lot of amazing references that will see the light as the year progresses. First reference Shara Music... Review: The Synthetic Gold story continues to unfold in the most curious nooks and crannies of the minimal techno scene, as this third volume welcomes in tracks selected by Anestie Gomez. Khan is in a looped up, insistent cycle loaded with alien synth tones and a focused rhythmic hiccup of a beat, truly aiming for the psych-out end of the night. Eloi Brunelle makes things a touch funkier on "Neneh", deploying choice splashes of dubbed out colour in between the sharp strut of the drums. Andres Garcia then spreads himself across the B-side with the loping funk of "Invisivel", working all manner of freaky sounds around the scuffed sway of the beats.
Review: Defected sub-label Tenth Circle welcomes Brighton based Nathan Pope aka Antenna Happy to deliver their first release of 2015.
Following his rapturously received debut 'Pinto' from last year, Antenna Happy draws on decades of musical experience to produce a stunning double-A side. Title track 'Dream 2c' sits somewhere between house and techno, a slow-burning, emotionally charged cut in which glimmering arpeggiated melodies intertwine to create a unique and beautiful cut. 'Wild Stabs' is tougher, an acid-flecked progressive stomper that slowly builds into a maelstrom of seething chords and stabs.
Review: PSYTH launches with the debut EP from Rob Shields. With a delicate urgency driven by a pulsating post-punk bassline, Shards
lavishes layer upon rich layer of sound, evoking the cool grooves of Peaking Lights and Chromatics, while a shimmering vocal
sample from Rebecca Sawyer adds an otherworldly sense of longing that echoes through the soul of the release. Silhouetted appears
more conventional and dance-floor friendly next to Shards, but under the surface is something unique and strangely exotic. A
mantra-like melody loop gives a nod to minimalist composer Terry Riley and his solo organ works, while world instruments such as
an African kalimba and Tibetan singing bowl only heighten the hypnotic and intoxicating quality even further.
Review: Having taken a break from releasing on the Basic Grooves imprint, Shane Linehan returns to his native label with a straight up house music two tracker. Side A "Meditate On This" takes inspiration from Detroit styles. Moving chords, slammin' claps and a chopped up scat style vocal is what's on offer here. The B side "The Unintentional Dub" is a stripped back eehhhh, dub - true to the original BG style.

Review: "Stableface", one of the standout tracks from Lithuanian producer Eleven Tigers' debut album "Clouds Are Mountains" found itself pride of place on this 12" release from Soul Motive. Opening with an extended intro of cracked Burial-like atmospherics, the track soon gains a life of its own with its minimal 2-step beat and cracked vocal samples, complete with the kind of intricate melodicism of Four Tet. On the flip side Bristol's Peverelist turns in a fine reworking of the track. Taking the already sparse original and extending its panoramic reach even further, he concentrates on the micro qualities of the rhythms, opens up huge holes in the original's deft tapestry and creates a masterful reworking which brings out the dubstep within its DNA.
Review: The Ti-Rex crew widens the net for their third release with the introduction of hitherto unknown producer Henrocic. The release begins with the ranging shuffle of "Al Chiaro Di Luna", a stripped down affair peppered with haunting flecks of jazz and a strung out late morning atmosphere. Label boss Ti Es then steps up with a remix of "Don't Stop" throwing down some tougher drum tones and working the reverb before the original version plunges down into an intimate space populated by natural grooves and strange sounds alike. "Pace Of The Are" then delivers a finishing blow with snaking percussion and gnarly bass tones.
Review: London based Rico Casazza has been sliding out warm, harmonically rich techno for over 10 years now, shoring up on labels such as Bonzai Elemental, Archipel, Stock5, Cartulis Music, Variance and more. On his latest release, which lands on sterling techno imprint Murge Recordings, he's channeling the spirit of Detroit in a plush spread of warm and expressive synth shapes. "Transmutation" is strong in its original configuration, but it's also propped up by some classy remixes from big hitters. Kirk Degiorgio steps up first with a tense, darkside techno workout for the peak of the night. Aubrey then pings things up into a trippy, heavy-rolling workout drawn from the freakier end of the spectrum.
Review: The platform is extremely crowded, however, and she can't get to Mick, who is standing at the opposite end, so she shouts his name. Two other passengers relay the message to Mick that Sue wants to talk with him. "What does she want?" Mick relays back. "Tell him that I'm not going to marry Richard," Sue shouts. "Why not?" Mick asks. "Because I love you!" she relays. When the message finally gets to Mick, he tries to make his way through the crowd but he can't get to Sue, so he climbs on top of the crowd and walks over the people's shoulders to get to her. In the final scene, they embrace while the crowd cheers.
Review: For Finitude Music's 5th release, label owner Marcel Heese and Alexander Kowalski aka d_func. share their visions on ""Thought Control"".
Both tracks on the EP harbour the same intent, but each of them approaches it in a different way. d_func.'s take revolves around Sahko-like bleeps - if you are into early Mika Vainio or Sleeparchive - look no further! But instead of being loopy, it's definitely a builder. Its original trance track-like structure is sure to rock many an underground dancefloor.
Marcel's vision is slower and less straight-forward but creates and maintains a high tension. Based on dense a bassline and intricate soundscapes, it builds up slowly, only to explode halfway through. An extra payoff also comes at the very end of a track - its noise/ambient outro making a perfect way to wrap up an amazing party at 8AM somewhere deep in the heart of Berlin.
Review: Sect's third and final sampler for the It's All For You compilation ends on a bittersweet note, seeing the last release from Sect favourite Grovskopa, who has decided to retire following the closest of near death experiences. The A-Side features Lag's remix of his Sect classic "Atopic", reworking the lurching bass and broken-beat rhythms of the original into a hypnotic number with a fractured synth melody. The B-Side sees "2:69", a brittle yet powerful track with churning bass which recalls Drexciya's classically hard edged approach, combined with hazy orchestral sweeps - a fitting swansong for a great producer.

Review: Lazare Hoche doesn't release that much music, but what he does put out is invariably excellent. Following a smattering of singles and an acclaimed collaborative album alongside Malin Genie - 2013's I Don't Sync So Volume II - he's decided to put together a compilation featuring his own productions and those by music industry mates. Access, then, is a lesson in warm and luscious deep house, with significant contributions coming from Luke Solomon (donning the Jean Caffeine guise on the dreamy and rolling "Jean Afterthought"), DJ Gregory's Point G project (the ultra-deep pulse of "La Lampe Du Vizir Adjane"), and pals Skymaster and Mandal. Hoche's own contributions rank amongst the compilation's highlights, with the title track delivering a pitch-perfect lesson in the seductive powers of dreamy, dust-encrusted deep house.
Review: Valcrond Video invites you into the world of Helmer's "Roccale". Helmer's second release picks up the pummel that began with his first release, and continues the attack with three tracks of thoughtful, pulsing darkness. "You Say I for Me" presents a forbidding metallic landscape, a snake winds through it in the aural form of an eerie growl, making its way among the crunch and clutter to periodically emerge and rear with menace. "Corrib chun Mask" is what they play for prisoners sentenced to hard labor in the gulag of the future, if hard labor = dancing for days. "spry -Env", the closing piece on Roccale, is perhaps Helmer's most masterfully evocative. We have walked in on a ritual, dominated by an incense pendulum that swings and smokes, and carries with it the sound of an ancient transgression.
