Review: Dutch-German pop singer C.C. Catch - real name Caroline Gertrud Catharina Muller - put out a wealth of full-lengths from the mid-eighties onwards. There were seven in all on top of 33 singles and EPs with many of them becoming much-loved disco dance floor classics. The Best is a collection of her greatest hits from all across the years on two sides of very nice pink wax. Picking out the best is futile here as all will make their mark from the dazzle of 'Cause You Are Young' to the glossy synths of 'I Can Lose My Heart Tonight.'

Atmospheric and with a live feel, it's not one to be missed.

Review: Two years after her debut album Heaven & Hell, Albanian-American pop star Ava Max returns with her sophomore effort, Diamonds & Dancefloors. The clue's in the name as to the vibe Max is aiming for with this release, and lead single 'Maybe You're The Problem' sets the tone for a bright and bouncy strain of dance pop which will dig its claws in and have you humming along for the rest of the week. Review: To kick off new label Takashimashuzo, Kammoushiki - who is presumably the boss - is dropping two new 12"s in the same week. This is the second and like the first, it is inspired house music that takes its cues from the 80s Ibiza party landscape. 'Magic Hour' has gurgling basslines riding up and down the scale with innocent keys and lazy drums. It's heartwarming stuff from sundown. 'Nakanaide' then ups the Balearic quotient with even more prominent and arcing guitar licks over bongos and soulful chords.

Review: Swedish band Soul Tune Allstars play authentic sonic soul food and here return for a Viking-themed instrumental soul album with The Soul Of The Viking. No longer a strictly domestic affair, this second LP still hears head man Niclas Wretelid bandlead, and also contains appearances from American singers Carlton J Smith and Maria Sanchez, not to mention razor-sharp guitar work from Mikko Raisanen, and flute and organ contributions from his countrymen Olli and Tommi. More Viking-like in theme than sound, this is a progressively branching, nourishing album.

Review: American rapper Logic announced his retirement from music in 2020, but returned with this surprise release, College Park, in 2023. For all intents, such a stunt might come across as disingenuous, but it makes sense in Logic's case, as the album is more of a personal paean to Logic's complex and difficult childhood. When the moment comes to revisit your past via your art - regardless of whether you ostensibly "quit" beforehand - you take it. Over the course, Logic leads us by the hand into his hometown of College Park, Maryland, where he took the first steps on his hero's journey into the rap biz. Logic's story is thoroughly emotional, and this is certainly his most personal album yet, with tracks like 'Wake Up' and 'Self Medication' exemplifying the artist's newfound maturity and a full-circle return to earthen realness.

Review: Mitch Wellings is the founder of Space Tours Records and The Sound Kitchen studios and he's been impressing us with his 12"s for a while so we're glad to hear an album from him. This new conceptual release says it was "created to honour the brave passengers on the first ever Space Tours flight." It's a cosmic trip made using "real interview footage" and has some very lovely artwork to help heighten the illusion. The music itself is futurities and melodic tech with wispy electro rhythms and celestial chord sequences. It's an expansive mind movie, a deeply immersive and escapist soundtrack that makes great use of the long-player format while also offering up plenty of great moments for the dance floor. A real triumph.

Review: South London-based band Soothsayers are nothing if not prolific. This is their ninth studio album and once again it is underpinned by heavy basslines, with solid grooves and most importantly, socially and politically charged lyrics. It is a broad record that has a rich pale with elements of dub, Afrobeat, improvisational jazz and electronica all feeding into it, while Brazilian flavours, such as the low-end Surdo drum, were combined with sounds more readily associated with reggae and Afrobeat. Complex but accessible, melodic but physical, this is an album that brings us all together with messages of unity, joy and meditative musical power.
