Review: There are archival releases worth buying, then there's Hendrix with Dusty. For those who don't know, music legend Dusty Springfield used to have her own show on an ITV then still in relative infancy (and, it's safe to say, far more relevant in terms of youth culture than it sadly is today). The programme, It Must Be Dusty, saw the acclaimed singer, songwriter and blue-eyed soul-pop titan welcome other talented folk onto the stage to perform live.

On 5th June 1968, that opportunity fell on arguably the world's greatest guitarist dead or alive, Jimi Hendrix. The result - as this recording reveals - was an electrifying show that very nearly brought the studio crashing down around the riff-wielding guitar hero. Lost to the sands of time until very recently, and available here in full for the very first time, the pair's duet, 'Mockingbird', warrants purchasing the entire album alone, although the rest is similarly spellbinding.

Review: Originally released on Apple in 1970. In the aftermath of the implosion of The Beatles. 'Instant Karma' features Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band kicking off a new decade with a decidedly glam rock stomp (and compressed handclaps to boot) that would go on to shape the sound of the pre-punk era. Lyrically, it's classic solo Lennon, hovering between bile and idealism, and the whole thing's blessed with a chorus that's stickier than freshly discarded chewing gum.

Review: Music history boffins might be interested to know the 19-minute live recording that is From Us To You #4 runs only slightly shorter than the average touring set played by the Fab Four at the time - 1964. A band in ascendency, to say the least, this is the final (and, as the title suggests, fourth) instalment in this EP series, which is made up of BBC session recordings from the later stages of the legendary group's rock-pop, Merseybeat era. A time capsule captured at the UK broadcasting giant's Paris Studios headquarters, classics like 'A Hard Day's Night' and the titular 'From Us To You' sit alongside the Little Richard anthem 'Kansas City/Hey-hey-hey-hey!', and B-sides like 'Things We Said Today'. Packed with infectious energy, and a naive innocence, it's a brief insight into one of the 20th Century's most evocative periods of music history.

Summertime Blues (1:03)

Relay (8:36)
Review: .There's plenty to talk about with The Who's historic show at Fete De L'Humanite, a huge open-air event hosted by L'Humanite, the main newspaper of the French Communist Party. For starters, on the day - Saturday 9th September, 1972 - an estimated 400,000 people were in attendance, a crowd size that dwarves pretty much anything we can think of today, and remains the band's largest ever gig. Taking to the stage as evening set in, they set to with a typically ferocious set, and four of the most standout pieces for the show are immortalised here on record. Unsurprisingly, that timeless anthem of misspent youth, love, rebellion, and hope for change, 'Baba O'Riley', is a dominant factor, although epic finale 'Relay' is perhaps where the might of their rock 'n' roll juggernaut is most felt here.

Review: The Beatles' EP From Us To You #3 captures a 1964 BBC session that encapsulates the band's early charm and infectious energy. Featuring a whopping ten tracks, it was recorded in the BBC's Paris Studios in Regent Street, London and fact fans will note that 'Honey Don't which was later included on the album Beatles For Sale and sung by Ringo, here features John on the vocals. Elsewhere the EP captures the band's irresistible melodies and tight harmonies with three of the tunes originally penned by the band's favourite rockabilly star Carl Perkins. Each song is a testament to The Beatles' enduring influence on popular music and overall serves as a timeless reminder of the band's unmatched creativity which continues to this day with new AI-produced singles that the much talked about one earlier in the year.

Venice Beach - "F" (5:03)
Jay Airiness - "FF" (5:02)
Review: It's been a pretty successful year for 45 Loves, when all is said and done. The French imprint has managed to maintain a seriously high release quality throughout one of the toughest times in modern music history. Better yet, it has been serving up exactly what most of us have needed during this impossible era - disco music laced with a positive energy and cult elec-pop bits.

Venice Beach's 'F' is certainly a party-starter, to put it mildly. Vocals straight from the backing chorus of a Tom Tom Club banger, undercarriage destined for an Ibiza terrace if they ever open again, it makes keeping still more than difficult. Flip it to find 'FF' from Jay Airlines, an altogether dustier and more stoned affair, robbing samples from Lou Reed's 'Walk On The Wild Side' and adding punchy drums to introduce some lazy dancefloor potential.

K (3:45)

Review: French producer Moar has always made crisp and classic era boom bap sounds both when crafting his album for his dance floor ready 7"s. He has dropped several of them already this year and now comes back once again with this Rock Vs Rap offering which as you would guess pairs off tropes and sounds from both those genres to create something new and raw. 'K' has gnarly guitar riffs over dusty drums and some rock vocals. On the flipside, 'KK' opens up with more iconic rock riffs but filtered and chopped up then redeployed under some iconic hip-hop verses. Fine mash-ups for sure.
