Review: When Mick Mars stepped back from touring with Motley Crue, it seemed like the end of an era. Really, it was the beginning of a new one. The legendary guitarist, whose riffs, solos and overall devastatingly heavy sound powered the L.A. icons through four decades of world-conquering, multi-platinum sonic mayhem is, as he demonstrates on his debut solo effort, still a serious force to be reckoned with. Only now, listeners are reckoning with more Mars than ever before. On the aptly-titled The Other Side of Mars, fans get that vision in its full, multifarious glory. To be sure, there are plenty of characteristically riff-tastic, tough-as-nails hard-rock anthems, but The Other Side of Mars also shows the 71-year-old guitarist heading into new and uncharted territory, tearing through caustic, modern metal ('Broken On The Inside"', conjuring gothic-tinged soundscapes ('Undone'), digging into anguished, slow-burning power balladry ('Killing Breed"' and unspooling bluesy, cinematic instrumental workouts (the album-closing guitar showcase, 'L.A. Noir'). The music throughout the ten-track collection, meanwhile, is otherwise studded with slide guitars, violins, violas, keyboards, glitchy freak-outs and all manner of sonic surprises.

Review: The Beatles' EP From Us To You #3 captures a 1964 BBC session that encapsulates the band's early charm and infectious energy. Featuring a whopping ten tracks, it was recorded in the BBC's Paris Studios in Regent Street, London and fact fans will note that 'Honey Don't which was later included on the album Beatles For Sale and sung by Ringo, here features John on the vocals. Elsewhere the EP captures the band's irresistible melodies and tight harmonies with three of the tunes originally penned by the band's favourite rockabilly star Carl Perkins. Each song is a testament to The Beatles' enduring influence on popular music and overall serves as a timeless reminder of the band's unmatched creativity which continues to this day with new AI-produced singles that the much talked about one earlier in the year.

A new special edition of The Beatles' Revolver comes courtesy of Apple, the original label on which the fab four released some of their most seminal works. Featuring a new mix and master by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, this version contains yet another 100-page book with a foreword by Paul McCartney and an unlikely essay by Questlove of The Roots.

Review: After they'd moved on from their earliest moves as Death Cult, Ian Astbury's goth-tinged new wave rockers The Cult laid down their opening manifesto proper on Dreamtime and forged a classic in the process. It's a totem of the darker side of new wave for good reason, draped in shimmering guitar lines and angular grooves that defined the era, loaded with driving anthems like the title track and brooding atmospheres aplenty - just catch the sinewy mood of '83rd Dream' as a prime example. An all-time great, now available once again thanks to this reissue on Beggars.

Review: Originally released in 1984, following the band's evolution from the Southern Death Cult, to Death Cult, and then simply The Cult, Dreamtime finds the outfit featuring Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, pivoting from their goth and punk roots into something eclectic, aspirational, and adventurous. Rife with lyrical references to the indigenous cultures of the Americas and Australia, and set against a more bombastic and muscular musical backdrop, Dreamtime hints at what would envelop the band over the next four decades, a dedication to their wholly unique songwriting, both musically and thematically and the frenzy that was soon to come with the release of Love only a year later.

Review: This live album captures Slade at the peak of their rock 'n' roll prowess. Recorded in 1978 at the New Victoria Theatre in London, the album showcases the band's electrifying stage presence and raw energy. With anthemic hits coming thick and fast, Slade ignite the crowd with their infectious hooks and raucous performances. Frontman Noddy Holder's powerful, ultra-distinctive vocals and guitarist Dave Hill's blistering solos drive the show, creating a memorable concert experience that can be enjoyed all over again here.

Review: The Beatles: The Red Album: 1962-1966 encapsulates the iconic band's early years with a dynamic selection of tracks that have now all been remastered at half speed so they sound extra good. This compilation showcases the evolution of their sound from the exuberant energy of 'Love Me Do' to the groundbreaking creativity of 'A Hard Day's Night' and beyond. There are also timeless hits like 'Twist and Shout' and 'Yesterday,' which means this collection serves as a definitive journey through the first part of the The Beatles' legendary catalogue. Each song is a direct portal back to the 60s and to the vibrant era of Beatlemania at the peak of its powers.

Review: Hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, self-described "Adventure Metal" outfit Mega Colossus appear to have little interest in using the metal genre to craft sonic aggression. Utilising melodious leads, powerful vocals and technically impressive flashes of prog brilliance, their fourth full-length Showdown offers up a form of triumphant positivity and anthemic fantasy, harking back to the classic era of illustrious prog and classic rock with subtle nods to the likes of Rainbow, Deep Purple, and Kansas. It might not be 1978 anymore, just don't tell the band that.

Review: Punctuation aside, The Rolling Stones set a precedent with Get Yer Ya Ya's Out. At the time, concert albums were still something of a novel ideal, but when the iconic British rock 'n' rollers unleashed this it proved to the industry just how much people wanted on-stage magic captured for posterity. The first live record to hit number one in the UK charts, it was recorded at shows in New York City and Baltimore in 1969, just ahead of the landmark Let It Bleed LP arriving. It also proves the power of a bootleg, with an unofficial record, Live'r Then You'll Ever Be, reportedly persuading the band's then-label, Decca, to cash in on the clear demand for the group's exceptional live show, on vinyl. Captured on their first tour with Mick Taylor, Brian Jones having left, it presents the outfit as they sounded at the very top of their game - energetic, rule breaking, and packed with the soul of blues six stringers.

Review: The pairing we didn't know we needed - Rod Stewart and Jools Holland - share their latest full-length album Swing Fever, a worthy throwback to the swing music of yore. A 13-track sparkling salute to the timeless songs of the big band years, and reignited by two giants of their craft, this unlikely dialogue between such titans has produced a convincingly diegetic and immersive work, avoiding any overt pratfall of pure anachronism by producing a roomy, spacious and overall future-present work of art, one which confidently reignites the feeling of Charlestonning and jitterbugging in school proms and/or formal bally occasions, until such quaint aerialisms can be performed no more, whether due to nostalgic satiation or mere exhaustion. With peerless dexterity, Stewart and Holland deliver their takes on timeless jazz classics like 'Ain't Misbehavin', 'Frankie And Johnny', 'Sentimental Journey' and 'Lullaby Of Broadway'.

The title track, reminiscent of a serene waterway, navigates through Knopfler's trademark blend of folk, rock and blues and carries you on a journey through lyrical landscapes rich with imagery and emotion. With his distinctive vocals and intricate guitar licks ever present here, the Dire Straits talisman paints plenty of vivid portraits of introspection and contemplation that all speak to his enduring artistry and his ability to craft songs that resonate deeply with the soul.

Review: Philip Sayce's highly anticipated new album, The Wolves Are Coming, is more powerful, unique, and brash than anything he has written or recorded to date. In Sayce's own words, the album came into focus during his darkest times, and represents a bridge - a connection between despair and hope - that invites broken spirits into transformation and healing. The likes of 'Oh! That Bitches Brew' and 'Backstabber' hit like hurricanes, while 'Lady Love Divine' explores light in contrast to darkness, deploying an uplifting, foot-stomping funk groove that lands its hooks in all the right places. Ballads like 'It's Over Now' and the magical instrumental 'Intuition' round out Sayce's signature fuzz tones and sledgehammer mountain- sized drum grooves with delicate, intimate, and dynamic performances.

It boasts guest appearances by guitar legends Gary Moore, Eric Bell and Brian Robertson and boasts a tracklist that spans their discography, featuring selections from their last four albums. Highlights include fiery renditions of tracks like 'The Sun Goes Down,' 'Renegade,' and 'The Boys Are Back in Town.' Notable moments include a mind-blowing guitar solo by John Sykes on 'Got to Give It Up' and a chaotic jam session on 'The Rocker' featuring all five guitarists. While Life captures Thin Lizzy's energy and spirit os fully captured it remains a solid representation of the band's live performance abilities and serves as a fitting farewell to their legendary career. Review: The Who's Live At Shea Stadium 1982 (not the Shea Stadium where lower league UK football team Halifax plays, but a venue in New York) captures one of the band's most electrifying performances. Despite being decades into their career, they deliver a dynamic show that is full of their usual enduring energy and musicianship. The setlist is a blend of classics and newer material, each song performed with raw intensity, with Roger Daltrey's vocals soaring, perfectly framed by Pete Townshend's blistering guitar work. The live atmosphere adds an extra layer of excitement, with the crowd's energy palpable throughout, making this a testament to The Who's status as one of rock's greatest live acts that is well worth copping.

Review: The Grace Of A Dragonfly is the third release by Lionheart who have reformed and have been recording together again since the mid-2010s. Originally an 80s rock and pop metal band, their sound reminds many of the likes of Styx, Survivor, Europe and Foreigner and the early 80s radio friendly rock music. Their latest album amplifies those comparisons by a factor of ten. Tracks like the triumphant 'V Is For Victory' and 'This Is A Woman's War' while 'The Longest Night' reminds of us primetime Loverboy. Every album like this yearns for a ballad. 'Just A Man' satisfies that request with a great band performance. If you are a fan of 1980s arena rock, then Lionheart is for you! This vinyl version is limited on gatefold in silver color and complete with an insert. How about the cool cover and graphics on this album?!

Review: Not be confused with UK rock act Quill featuring the legendary Jeff Lynne (ELO, Black Sabbath, The Move), Swedish stoner rock heroes The Quill have been an active entity within the realms of Scandinavian hard rock and metal since the early 90s. Returning with their highly anticipated 11th full-length and follow up to 2021's Earthrise, the current locked in line up of original vocalist Magnus Ekwall, who would depart the band in 2007 before rejoining in 2016, along with Christian Carlsson (Cirkus Prutz) on guitar, Roger Nilsson (Spiritual Beggars, Arch Enemy, Firebird) on bass, and drummer Jolle Atlagic (Hanoi Rocks, Electric Boys, Firebird), are at a stage where crafting the most sprawling variety of metallic magic is their primary concern, with Wheel Of Time conjuring elements of stoner rock, doom metal, psych, prog and even saccharine dollops of melodious AOR for all you Dad-Rockers out there.

Review: The 1971 classic album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, Blue is widely thought by many music lovers to be one of the best albums of all time. Already well into her career by the time of its release - it's her fourth album - it was certainly Mitchell's best yet, reflecting a period in her life where she took a break from touring and live performing to focus on creation. Its confessional and poetic lyrics, not to mention the distinctively groggy yet idyllic guitar and piano playing on songs like 'All I Want', 'River', 'A Case Of You', heard Mitchell encapsulate the various milestones, Renaissances and turning points of the contemporary rock landscape of the 1970s, into a singular LP.

Review: Three decades before he released The Philosophy of Modern Song - an insightful book devoted to 66 tunes that both impacted his career and the music world at large - Bob Dylan issued Good As I Been to You. The under-heralded 1992 album, Dylan's first solo acoustic album in nearly 30 years and first all-covers effort in nearly twenty years, can be seen as a prophetic prelude to what has become the Nobel Laureate's celebrated late-career arc. It's also an absorbing continuation of the custom Dylan has embraced since he first picked up a guitar.

Review: Humble Pie's self-titled third album was originally released in 1970 to great fanfare. The album marked a turn for the band presenting a much heavier sounding product per influence by their new manager and new label at A&M records. The band featured Steve Marriott on guitar and vocals, Jerry Shirley on drums and keyboards, Greg Ridley on bass and vocals along with Peter Frampton on guitar and vocals, Frampton stepping into the limelight with his amazing performance on 'Earth and Water Song', a song was surrounded in thentracklisting by two of the heaviest songs they ever wrote - 'One Eyed Trouser Snake Rumba' and 'I' Ready'. The album is also known for containing the one and only song sung by Jerry Shirley 'Only A Roach', a homage to marijuana.

Reissued by Demon over a decade ago on CD, a vinyl repress is long since overdue and now the beautiful people over at Music On Vinyl have opted to re-distribute the underrated seasoned gem on translucent blue vinyl with the 180 gram numbered audiophile treatment. Reliably mammoth riffs and soaring hooks abound, though the project is most noted for featuring an eclectic reimagining of Willie Dixon's blues classic 'Just Wanna Make Love to You', popularised by the incomparable Muddy Waters.

Review: Santana's Amigos album from 1976 stands out as a Latin-infused rock masterpiece that often goes unnoticed due to the absence of their most popular hits. Nonetheless, it is regarded as one of their most captivating albums, resonating with listeners through its infectious energy and musical prowess. The opening track, 'Dance Sister Dance (Baila Mi Hermana),' showcases Santana's exceptional guitar skills, complemented by a solid rhythm section that propels the melodies to new heights. The album features standout tracks like the heartfelt ballad 'Take Me With You,' the dynamic 'Let Me,' and the grandiose 'Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile).' With its recent reissue on vinyl, Amigos becomes essential for both loyal Santana enthusiasts and those discovering the band's music for the first time. Embracing the fusion of Latin rhythms and rock elements, this album continues to captivate audiences and solidify Santana's legacy in the realm of musical excellence.

Led by guitar virtuoso Leslie West and featuring the powerhouse vocals of Felix Pappalardi, the album delivers a thunderous blend of blues, psychedelia, and heavy riffs. Tracks like 'Mississippi Queen' and 'Theme for an Imaginary Western' showcase the band's dynamic range and undeniable musicianship. Elsewhere, the record's gritty production and infectious energy helped to establish Mountain as pioneers of the hard rock genre and an influencer on countless bands to come. It remains a timeless classic, rightfully lauded for its raw power.

Review: On Your Feet Or On Your Knees was the band's first compilation and helped them shoot to stardom. With the rise of successful greatest hits albums, the label at the time pressured the young band to bring out a collection of previously released music, with then 12 songs featured here the result of collecting three songs per prior album that the band felt were their strongest. This album features some of the most beloved live songs by the band like 'Buck's Boogie'. For those that are new to the band, this is a great introduction to the history of BOC prior to their landmark hit 'Don't Fear The Reaper' smash the following year and this reissue comes on silver & black marbled vinyl.

Review: Following on from 1989's majorly successful and admittedly more commercial sounding fourth full-length Intuition, Trondheim glam metal-tinged hard rock heroes TNT would find themselves on the radar and eventual roster of Atlantic Records, who in 1992, would distribute the band's fifth album and first on the major label, Realized Fantasies. Praised by fans for its exceptional production with ludicrously bombastic percussion the whole way through, the project saw a sonic retracing of their more hardened edges, so as not to lose sight of their creative prowess. That being said, cuts such as the cheerful 'Easy Street' and epic ballad 'Lionheart' seem like they were purposefully designed to keep snooting record label execs off their proverbial backs. Never mind what glassy eyed nostalgia-baters say, Realized Fantasies goes hard as hell while delivering barrages of riffage, melody and playfully epic grandeur.

With the anime concerning the travails and trials of a five-piece justice-league of Athenian intergalactic warriors - who each wear their own "Cloths", i.e. supernatural outfits that grant each protagonist special, demiurgic powers - you can expect each piece to be as rousing and galactic as that description suggests.

Review: Gaucho was the seventh studio album from soft-pop-rock-jazzists and yacht rock pioneers Steely Dan. Released in 1980, they would embark on a tour to mark the record's arrival, and then vanish for 20 years. Or at least go on extended hiatus. That's not surprising, given the back story here, with widespread creative disagreements and a three-way legal battle with MCA and Warner Bros ensuing. And an original budget blown by the sheer scope of 42 musicians contributing to the work. The Lost Gaucho is almost an unplugged version of all that. These are the alternative versions recorded in the early sessions that led to the final LP. Broadcast on radio as part of the promotional campaign, they've been compiled on this joyfully smooth and seductive package, which fans need in their lives.

This record, which bridged the gap between the 'Pub Rock' scene and the emerging sound of reggae music in the UK, arrived amidst the onset of "Reggae Fever." G.T. Moore, formerly of the legendary folk group Heron, emerged as the first white musician to authentically delve into reggae. The eponymous debut album from the Reggae Guitars featured session musician John 'Rabbit' alongside Tom Platt, who engineered the iconic 'Catch A Fire' album. With a mix of originals and covers, including tracks by Bob Dylan, Heptones, and Diana Ross, the album stands as a testament to the fusion of musical styles and influences during that era.

Jumping back to the early days of Steely Dan, it's easy to forget they were still a rock band at heart. Drop the needle on Countdown To Ecstasy and let 'Bodhisattva' kick in - sure, the jazzy tendencies of Becker and Fagen elevate this above traditional bluesy fare, but it's still a kicking, overdriven sound on the guitars front and centre. Such obsessing over the details is part and parcel of Steely Dan, the band so fabled for their own obsessions in the studio, and so adored by nearly everyone in the world. There will never be enough reissues of these albums to reach the ears of everyone who needs them, but be thankful you can cop yourself a pristine piece from one of the greatest of all the bands.

If you ever wondered what was next for the Rolling Stones, here's your answer. Hackney Diamonds is their forthcoming 26th studio album; the first studio album of original material by the band in 18 years and the final album to feature the drumming of rhythmic fixture Charlie Watts. Kicking off with its first promotional single 'Angry' - a song on which Jagger and Richards implore us not to get angry with them, perhaps owing to the frosty reception the Stones have sometimes received from squarer audiences over the years - the song sets the tone for what is sure to be a Stones completist's favourite and a welcome, high-energy return to blistering blues-rock form.

This special recording captures the entirety of the show, which was as part of the band's European Magic Tour. The tour came after the band released their widely successful A Kind of Magic album and so features plenty of material from it as well as plenty of their 70s and 80s classics. Coming across four sides of vinyl, it's a hugely atmospheric listen with plenty of audience noise adding to the occasion.

Dume is a 16-song album (2 LPs) by Neil Young with Crazy Horse from 1975, recorded during the Zuma recording sessions. It includes tracks and outtakes from Zuma. Thus, think of it like the most complete package or extended version on Zuma. This period (just three years after Harvest) of Neil's music is some of his most productive and beloved writing in his 50+ year career. These extra tracks add not only just more music to enjoy but a unique look into the sessions as they were. The two albums are housed a beautifully packaged gatefold as well.

Review: Rhythm & Blues follows on from the success of its Mott The Hoople at the BBC 1970 release - well worth a look (or listen) - with another retrospective compilation that makes a convincing case for us all diving headfirst into the band's full back catalogue to marvel at what's there. A collection of broadcast tracks from Top Gear, Sounds of the Seventies, and The John Peel Sunday Concert are included, and all sound gritty, growly, raw and vital. Among the highlights are versions of Like A Rolling Stone and When My Mind's Gone, which the release notes argue are "rare-as-hens-teeth", and we're not in position to argue, while the take on 'What'd I Say' feels soaked in enough spilt whisky and blues you could probably get loaded on the fumes alone. Ultimately, though, there's no point picking individual parts here. Instead, think wall-to-wall reasons why the Hoople were such a rare breed.

Review: If you want blood... well, we all know what comes next. AC/DC are among the most marmite of stadium-sized rock bands, their consistency over the past six decades seen by some as relentless homogeneity. In reality, it's an auteur signature. We know, within three chords of school uniform-clad Angus Young's iconic Gibson, whose song, it is yet to the trained ear there are huge differentiations at play. From drawly blues through to seismic main stage energy. Highway To Hell is one of the group's seminal early outings, and any self-respecting fan should own it already. Although perhaps not in this stunning gold edition, released to celebrate the LP's 50th anniversary. Newcomers can expect an insight into the barrooms filled with sweat and spilt drinks from which this mega group came out of and a clue as to why Bon Scott, the lead singer who tragically died as they really hit fifth gear, will always have a place in our hearts.

The iconic album is well known for its thunderous riffs and anthemic choruses and though it is very much of its age, it solidified AC/DC's status as one of rock's greatest bands, despite the appearance of flat capped Geordie Brian Johnston in place of Bon Scott, who died tragically in 1980. With hits like 'You Shook Me All Night Long', live favourites 'Hells Bells' and 'Rock 'N' Roll Ain't Noise Pollution' and the title track, the album reached all-new heights of rock energy and big riffery and now this anniversary edition offers a fresh perspective on a timeless classic while showcasing AC/DC's enduring influence on the rock landscape.

Review: Following up the worldwide smash Back In Black was going to be a tough job for anyone, but AC/DC brought the big guns in - more specifically, the big gun on its cover, which we also get to hear in full explosive effect on the album's title track, the kind of epic most bands save for their closer but here designated the opening tune. While it's fair to say not as many of the tracks here made it into AC/DC classic territory as on its predecessor, the sound of the now Brian Johnson-fronted team in full power mode dishing out groovers like 'Let's Get It Up' and 'C.O.D' is pretty irresistible, while 'Breaking The Rules' marks new ground for them - a slow motion, headnodding anthem with the band's long running anti-authoritarian stance writ large upon it.

Review: The Australian rock gods' third album is one of their most varied in moods and displays a new found confidence in their sound, with songs like 'Squealer' and 'Ain't No Fun (Waiting Round to Be a Millionaire)' containing rolling instruemntal section where the band hit a trademark riff and interlocking groove and simply let it ride. From the title track, with its sleazy tale of cash for violence, to the Stones-esque 'Problem Child' and the frenetic 12-bar closer 'Rocker', the band's closing song in their live set for many years to come, this is the sound of a legend being forged.

Review: It's 1977 and AC/DC are not-so-fresh after a spell as the support on Black Sabbath's tour. Looking for a new bassist, after a disagreement over whether to pick Manfred Mann's Colin Pattenden, the band agree on Cliff Williams, who would remain in place until 2003. Recording what became Powerage, their fifth studio album, Atlantic Records soon complained there wasn't a sellable lead single. 'Rock 'n' Roll Damnation' took form, one of the group's outliers, which comes without standard guitar solo but with maracas and hand claps. While this proved divisive among die hard fans, the album itself has gold waiting to be discovered deeper down. 'Gimme A Bullet', for example, has been cited as the finest track the late Bon Scott would write, his lyrical flair and deft metaphorical wit shining through on a tune that won't let up. This was his final LP, and tragically three years later he was no longer with us, marking an end to the group's iconic first chapter.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight surface marks on outer sleeve, inner sleeve torn***

Two years on from Tom Waits' landmark Swordfishtrombones and the jazz cat-turned staunch experimentalist continued to explore the roads less travelled with Rain Dogs. Originally released via the seminal Island Records in 1985, if the preceding album felt expansive, the follow up broadens horizons even further, inviting luminaries Keith Richards and Marc Ribot to get in on the action, although neither come close to even sharing the spotlight with the real star of the show. Spanning New Orleans funeral march melancholy, old down and dirty blues rock, heart wrenching balladry, wild cinematic instrumentals, noir-ish pulp fiction storytelling, and more than a little of the Swordfish-style stomping oddness, it's a masterpiece. Perhaps what really sets this apart, though, is how these myriad styles, at least some of which could easily fall into caricature, feel and sound so authentic, making it impossible not to buy into.

The enduring appeal of Steely Dan never fades with time, and why should it? Donald Fagen and Walter Becker's relentless pursuit of perfection and blue-eyed soul gifted us a whole heap of stunning albums, and their fiercely devoted fanbase would fight tooth and nail over which one gets the top spot. Our money would be on Aja though, given its enduring influence, its rich extended life through a whole host of sampling and the quite simply flawless run of songs, composition, production and beyond. It's one of the greatest albums out there, and you'd do well to grab a copy if you don't own it already.

Review: Alice Cooper's Billion Dollar Babies celebrates its 50th Anniversary with this special Deluxe Edition which once again unleashes an onslaught of shock-rock brilliance. It is a landmark album that remains a pinnacle of Cooper's theatricality and musical prowess. With hits like 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' and the title track, the album is a darkly decadent journey through Cooper's twisted imagination and this all new edition across triple vinyl offers remastered tracks, rare demos and live recordings, all of which provided fans with a comprehensive glimpse into the album's creation. As such Billion Dollar Babies will captivate audiences both new and old with its blend of macabre theatrics and infectious rock anthems.

Review: Prince is a name that needs no introduction. The Vault ... Old Friends 4 Sale was originally released in 1999 , a full three years after being submitted to Warner Bros in 1996. Thus, it was recorded in 1994 and 1995 which in many fans' eyes, follows some of the best Prince work when he was known as the symbol. Stylistically, the album has Prince exploring more jazz elements while still remaining clearly a Prince album. Perhaps due to Prince not doing a world tour to support the album and lack of radio friendly singles, the album wasn't the chart success that the label hoped for but to fans it holds a special place in their Prince discography.
