Notes: Zoom products are constantly evolving to meet the needs of the creators who use them. With the H5 Handy Recorder, the tradition continues. The H5 provides four tracks of simultaneous recording and, like the flagship H6, it can use all Zoom interchangeable input capsules, allowing you to choose the best microphone for every recording situation. The flexible and powerful H5 provides everything you need to create multitrack recordings, audio for video, and state-of-the-art podcasting, broadcasting and electronic newsgathering.

X/Y recording allows you to cover a wide area yet still capture sound sources in the centre with clarity and definition, making it ideal for all types of live stereo recording. The XYH-5 X/Y microphone capsule included with the H5 provides two matched unidirectional condenser microphones set at a 90 degree angle. These are housed within an advanced shockmount that employs rugged external mic wires and rubberised material to isolate the unit from the H5 body and thus minimise vibration and handling noise. The design of the XYH-5 also allows the H5 to handle louder sounds than any other Handy Recorder model: 140 dB SPL, to be precise - equivalent to the sound of a jet aircraft from less than 200 feet away - enabling you to capture sounds louder, closer, and cleaner than you ever could before.

In addition to standard transport controls (stop, play/pause, record, rewind and fast-forward), the front panel of the H5 offers dedicated record arming buttons for each track, which double as mute switches during playback. A Hold switch disables all front panel buttons to prevent accidental operation during recording. The H5 can be attached to a camera strap or, with the use of our optional Hot Shoe mount, mounted directly to a DSLR or camcorder.

The H5 also provides everything you need to connect with the outside world. Dual combo XLR/TRS inputs that can handle both mic- and line-level signals allow you to connect external microphones and line-level devices like mixers, portable music players, effects processors and electronic keyboards - even electric guitars or basses equipped with active electronics. Each H5 input has its own dedicated gain control knob, located beneath a protective bar that prevents accidental movement during handling. The supplied XYH-5 X/Y capsule also provides a secondary input for connecting stereo mic- or line-level signal via a 1/8" mini phone jack. The H5 supports a +4 dB (professional) input level and utilises the same high-quality preamps as our flagship H6, ensuring great-sounding recordings in all sonic environments.

There are lots of output options as well. A dedicated Line Out with adjustable volume allows you to send a stereo audio output from the H5 to the mic input of a video camera or other device without the need for an attenuator cable. In addition, there's a separate headphone output with a dedicated volume control. You can use both outputs simultaneously to route audio to your DSLR while monitoring over headphones. There's also a built-in speaker for fast access playback, and a USB port which allows the H5 to be used as an audio interface for your computer or iPad.

Just 2 AA batteries - either alkaline or rechargeable NiMH - are required for power. When using alkaline batteries, the H5 will operate for more than 15 hours, even while recording continuously. You can also use an optional AC adapter to power the H5 without batteries. The H5 records directly to SD and SDHC cards up to 32 gigabytes. Maximum recording time is dependent upon the card size and file type; for example, the supplied 2GB SD card can hold approximately fourteen hours of stereo 320kbps MP3 files, three hours of stereo 16-bit / 44.1 kHz WAV files, or an hour of stereo 24-bit / 96kHz WAV files.

The H5 can operate in two different modes - choose stereo for two-track stereo recording, or multitrack for four-track recording (in either stereo pairs or individual mono tracks) - and it captures audio in the two most commonly used file formats: WAV and MP3.

The WAV files recorded by the H5 can be 16- or 24-bit, with sampling rates of 44.1, 48, or 96kHz. They are automatically time-stamped and thus Broadcast Wave Format (BWF) compliant, allowing for precise synchronisation in video post-production. MP3 files, while slightly lower in fidelity, are much smaller than WAV files and are thus easier to email and post on social networking sites - allowing you to quickly and easily share your creations around the world.

TASCAM's Ultra-HDDA (High Definition Discrete Architecture) mic preamp design is based on discrete components, just like classic professional gear. They achieve an incredible EIN rating of -125 dBu, meaning their noise level is practically below the range of hearing. Other impressive specs include a signal-to-noise ratio of 100 dB, out-speccing anything in its price range. But instead of judging the design merely by test measurments, key components were selected following extensive listening tests.

The first two channels can be switched to direct guitar inputs. They're ideal for direct recording of electric and acoustic guitar and bass without the need for a preamp. Use them with amp modeling software, like the TH2 effect included with SONAR X3. (Guitar effect plug-ins sold separately.)

The Ultra-HDDA mic preamps and line inputs offer 20dB of headroom for distortion-free recordings of percussive, high SPL instruments like drum tracks.

Eight XLR mic inputs and eight TRS inputs can be used simultaneously for 16-track live recordings. Capture every detail of live performances or rehearsals for later mixdown.

The eight XLR mic inputs have switchable +48V phantom power to use up to 8 condenser mics at the same time. The two front panel TRS line inputs are switchable between instrument level and line level input with adjustable gain. An additional six TRS line ins on the rear of the unit are switchable between -10dB and +4dB. All of the jacks support balanced or unbalanced 1/4" signals.

The presets section allows you to select from 32 wave or wavetable-based patches, store a selected scale & root note, set and recall a specified playing range, and specify per-patch settings for the included stereo delay.

Recessed in the top of the Theremini is a compact speaker perfect for private rehearsal and quick setup anywhere. Silent rehearsal is also possible via front panel headphone jack. Simply plug in ear-buds or headphones and the built in speaker becomes silent.

For live performance and gestural control, the rear panel features two line level audio outputs, a pitch CV output with selectable range, and a mini USB jack for MIDI I/O and connectivity.

The High control is a shelving filter that boosts or cuts all frequencies above 4.5kHz by as much as 6dB. The mid control is a mid-frequency peak filter that boosts or cuts frequencies centered at 1kHz and extending about one octave above and below that frequency. The low cutoff control rolls off frequencies below either 80 or 100Hz at a slope of 12dB/octave. This control is especially useful if you also have a connected subwoofer.

A 3-position acoustic space switch controls a second-order, low shelving filter that cuts frequencies below 800Hz by either 2 or 4dB to compensate for the boundary bass boost that occurs in close proximity to walls or corners.

The RF shielding protects against radio frequencies that could be introduced to the signal and become audible. The Eris monitors also provide overheat protection, current-output limiting and subsonic protection. The Soft startup amplifiers prevent damaging pops from sounding through the speakers when you power them up.

Notes: A four pole true analogue filter. This is based on the famous transistor ladder filter developed by Dr Bob Moog in the 1960s. A front panel pot controls the filter cut-off frequency, another controls the resonance. The resonance control is configured not to cause volume drop when turned up. The filter can be made to oscillate if required.

Two filter outputs are available. One is the Fizz output. This is a type of -6dB/octave filter and it gives a unique filtering effect with a real bite. The other is the Smooth output. This is a classic -24dB/octave filter, and gives a smooth warm analogue filter sound. Each filter output goes via its own reversible attenuator. This means not only can you adjust the output level, but also the phase of the output signal. This allows complex filter shapes to be made when the two outputs are mixed together in various degrees. This includes a very nice sounding band pass filter.

A wet/dry control allows the filtered audio to be mixed with the original signal. Not only is this useful in controlling the depth of the effect, but it can also create unusual phasing and vibrato type effects.

A wide range pre-amplifier is included. You can use the OMF-1 with virtually any input from guitars to synthesisers. A peak indicator will allow you to monitor overloads, although the OMF-1 is designed to overdrive beautifully.

An inbuilt low frequency oscillator with triangle and square waveforms. The frequency can be changed from 0.05Hz (one cycle in 20 seconds) to over 50Hz. A bi-colour LED gives visual indication of the speed of the LFO. Use the LFO to create auto wah and phaser type effects. The LFO can also be selected to trigger the envelope generator.

An ingenious dynamic envelope section that can move the filter cut off point up or down. It can be put into one of three modes at a flick of a switch:
FLR: It can function as a useful envelope follower, with controllable attack and decay times. Perfect for simulating many classic dynamic follower filter boxes. Play louder and hear the filter open up.
AD: It can be a standard attack-decay envelope generator. This is a type of one shot envelope, that rises and falls at the presence of an initial trigger signal. Useful for percussive type sounds.
AR: It can be a standard attack-release envelope generator. This is triggered either by the LFO, external gate signal or by an automatic audio trigger circuit with a variable threshold level. Powerful for creating rising crescendos.

The final output volume can be controlled with a level control. The output circuitry is configured to drive long length cables with ease and without ground loops.

A side chain input is available. This is a second audio input that can control the main input, but is not heard directly. Use this to trigger the envelope generator, or drive the envelope follower. A common use of this is to make the main audio program respond to a drum machine's output for syncopated effects. Use a deep rich string patch as your main input, and listen to the drum machine automatically pulse the output to the beat. Awesome!

CV and gate inputs are available for connection to a modular synth or midi-CV convertor. The CV input will control the filter frequency, and the gate control will trigger the envelope generator if selected.

With a second OMF-1 a stereo unit may be built. The two channels can either be run independantly or linked together for true stereo processing.

The UF1microfx is the last addition to our range of eurorack modules. It is a performance-oriented digital processor based on a new 24-bit dedicated DSP platform. Reverbs, delays and chorus are the effects that you can find in the module's 16 programme. Delays are either modulated or straight and available in many time signatures.

Manual controls include the direct selection of the programme, the parameter value potentiometers, a great feeling, old-style, button for the tap-tempo and a DRY/WET control to modify the amount of the effect on the output. When turned fully clockwise you can use the unit as a SEND effect.

Delay values are up to 600ms.

The interface toward your eurorack gear includes, apart from eurorack-level input and output with input clip indicator, two control voltage input for the modulation of the fx parameters (that are "summed" to the pots) and a clock (tap tempo) input.

A three-way toggle switch allows the player to choose between Wrinkle Mode (A Vibrato-esque warble chorus with the added option of pitch selection, meaning the Modulate knob goes from one octave down to one octave up, with noon being close to pitch unity), Washed Mode (a simple lush chorus, Modulate control adds in a wash of Reverb pre Chorus effect) or Mirrors Mode (Detuned Chorus meets Flanger in which the Modulate knob controls the depth of the Flanger, while Rate corresponds to both the Flanger speed and the detuned Chorus speed).

The Reflector V3 features an expression out jack and clickless switching. The output level can be tweaked via an internal trimpot for boost, slight drop, or unity gain.

Notes: The year 1969: Not only was Led Zeppelin's eponymous album released, but Woodstock took place in August. 1969 marks a turning point in the gear world also; it was the year that Dallas-Arbiter switched Fuzz Face production from the lower-gain germanium transistor core to readily available higher-gain silicon devices. The Spanish Castle pays tribute to this year.

Packed to the turrets with fuzz spread across two separate and footswitchable If 6 Was 9 circuits, the Spanish Castle is the perfect device for the fuzz-crazy and fuzz-curious alike.

The right side of the Spanish Castle represents the warmer pre-'69 circuit and is equipped with low-gain silicon transistors that emulate the rich character of germanium with more stable and consistent operation. Carbon-composition resistors further round everything out for a sound that is just like they used to roll them off the line. Unlike the Faces of yore, this circuit is equipped with a bias circuit to dial in just the right flavor, and cleans up like a champ. The original tenant of the Spanish Castle would have loved it.

On the left side, the post-'69 If 6 Was 9 circuit lies in wait. This wing of the Spanish Castle offers up higher-gain silicon transistors for a more buzzsaw-like grind, metal film resistors for tighter tolerances and an extended bias range for dialing in ripping gated fuzz textures as well as full-bodied snarl.

Each side offers up two toggle switches- Colour is a three-position switch that adjusts the EQ of its respective side, from flat EQ to two settings that shave off treble and mids. The Input toggle is also a three-position switch, changing gain and bass values that make the Spanish Castle adapt better to your wahs and other pedals.

If that's not enough control for you, each side contains an internal switch that changes between Bold and Comp modes, the former increasing the output and midrange, and the latter offering a softer, more compressed tone.

Please enjoy your stay in the Spanish Castle. You'd better make yourself at home. You're going to be here a while.

KNOBS:

Fuzz: Most Fuzz Face-style pedals only produce usable fuzz amounts at the end of the knob. Not ours. Each Fuzz knob is designed to give you an even sweep of fuzz throughout.

Bias: These knobs vary the voltage to the collector of of the second transistor, giving you burlier (clockwise) or leaner/gated fuzz tones (counter-clockwise).

Volume: Gives you more output than vintage-style Fuzz Faces. Note: when running both sides at once, Side B's Vol control becomes the "master volume" while Side A's control becomes a "saturation" control.

TOGGLE SWITCHES:

Color: These three-position switches adjust the EQ of the side they're found on. The center position of each switch bypass the EQing, while the "left" positions shave a small amount of treble and scoop a small amount of mids from their respective sides. The "right" positions shave an even greater amount of treble while scooping a greater amount of mid frequencies.

Input: These three-position switches adjust the input attenuation and wah friendliness of the side they're found on. The "right" positions leaves its respective side alone with regards to attenuation. The center positions heavily cut gain and bass, while the "left" positions mildly cut gain and bass. The center and left positions help adapt the Spanish Castle to a more wah-friendly fuzz.

UNDER THE HOOD:Bold/Comp (internal DIP): Each side contains a DIP switch that toggles between Bold and Comp settings. The Bold side increases the output level and the midrange content, while Comp delivers a softer and more compressed tone. The default setting is with Comp on.

Notes: Reverb purists often point to amp reverb as being the pinnacle of spring reverb. That may be all well and good, but what if your amp just doesn't have reverb? What if your amp's reverb isn't good? What if you want more options after a simple "level" control? It is time to ride the waves into the Surf Rider III.

The Surf Rider III is the 'verb sound that Fender's engineers would have put into their Deluxes and Vibroverbs if they had access to today's technology. Solid Gold's finest 'verb box gives you that familiar Level control but then adds a plethora of options, including a boost and some nifty resonance features that adds some juice to your tank without the springs.

Versatility is the name of the Surf Rider's game. The Level control is just the beginning, adjusting the amount of reverb in the total signal. The Surf Rider also offers a Depth knob that adjusts the intensity of the reverberations, for some hauntingly huge verbs that fill the room. The expression jack on the side overrides this control, should you feel so inclined.

The Decay control increases the size of the virtual reverb tank, opening up the pedal and giving you verb tones that go on seemingly forever. Speaking of tones, there's a handy Tone knob that brightens or darkens the reverb signal, which helps tame harsh pickups or beef up flimsy ones. It's especially helpful if the Surf Rider III is your only pedalia splendid idea.

The Resonance switch unlocks the "drippiness" of the reverb tank, giving you a lot (upper position), a little (lower position) or none at all (center). Cracking open the Surf Rider III gives you a trimpot to set the lower level for just the right amount of splash.

The Boost section lets you boost or cut the reverb level. With the LED on, the pedal is in Hi mode, and off is Lo mode. There's another internal trimmer that lets you dial in Lo mode. Surf's up.

KNOBS:

Tone: This knob lightens or darkens the frequency of the reverb signal only, from dark and moody to bright and biting.

Decay: Turning the Decay control up increases the decay time of the reverb signal, giving you access to huge, surf-inspired 'verbs that linger seemingly forever.

Depth: Increases the size of the virtual spring tank and the intensity of the signal. When connecting an expression pedal, you can control this knob hands-free.

Level: Controls the volume of the reverb (wet) signal.

TOGGLE SWITCHES:

Res: This is a three-position switch that alters the resonance of the tank. The upper position adds a high amount of resonance, while the lower position adds an amount that you set via internal trimpot (see "Under the hood" below). In the center position, the toggle adds no resonance.

UNDER THE HOOD:

Res (trimpot): This trimpot allows you to adjust the amount of resonance in the reverb signal while in the "Lo" (bottom) position of the Res toggle.

Boost (trimpot): When the Boost is in the off position (LED off), a portion of the reverb level is reduced. This trimpot lets you adjust how much is reduced to fine-tune the reverb signal.

Expression jack: Connecting an expression pedal here gives you hands-free control over the Depth knob.

True bypass footswitch: Turns the effect on and off.

Boost footswitch: With the LED on, the Surf Rider III is in "Hi" mode, boosting the reverb signal. With the LED off, the Surf Rider III is in "Lo" mode, and a bit of the reverb level is reduced. You can adjust how much with the Boost trimpot (see above in "Under the hood").
