Right Spot (5:21)
Right Spot (Dennis Ferrer remix) (6:07)
Right Spot (Byron The Aquarius remix) (5:06)
Review: New to Crosstown Rebels' 12"s encampment is producer HoneyLuv, who impresses on her debut release for the Damian Lazarus-run label with the fresh heat that is 'Right Spot'. Corralling remixes from Dennis Ferrer and Byron The Aquarius, HoneyLuv's palette is watery, polyrhythmic, hip-housey and fast-moving, channelling every smart move from transitional 'wubs' to tambaleironautic drum progressions, which back up the beats firmly, and move so fast that they could probably snap an ossified hipbone if played back loud enough. The track's central vocal is also an original vocal, pleading with the listener that they meet HoneyLuv at the correct rendezvous, aka. the 'spot', in order to catch the right rave-wave.

Inigo Vontier - "That Trippy Sound" (7:07)
AJ Christou - "Back & Forth" (5:58)
TMPLE - "The Girl In The Room" (7:03)
Review: Designed with a dual purpose - setting the label's agenda for the year ahead and introducing new signings - Crosstown Rebels' SPIRITS series has long been a must-check source of dependable tech-house tracks. Naturally, there's plenty of highlights to be found across this sixth annual edition. Our current favourites including the throbbing, percussion-rich, big room tech-house excellence of 'The Vision' by Cameron Jack; the acid-fired heaviness of Lauren Lane's 'Fair Game', with its wobbly sub-bass and echoing Latin drum hits; the crackling, mind-mangling tech-house psychedelia of 'So Deep' by Cristina Lazic and Leia Contois; and the fiendishly bass-heavy tribal-tech wonder that is Inigo Vontier's accurately titled 'That Trippy Sound'.

Review: Damian Lazarus's Crosstown Rebels label has ridden out many different waves of popular sounds and always remained relevant. Right now it looks to Made By Pete for a new 12" that has a gritty, low slung and sleazy tech house vibe. 'Fires' has menacing basslines and steamy vocalisations that make for an unsettling mood. UK tech house titan Bushwacka! then remixes with his signature sense of drive thou with slithy more deep and pensive pads than usual. A dub mix is also included as is a rework from Victor Calderone & Mykol that is full of late night mischief.

Review: Many congratulations to Crosstown Rebels, a pioneering tech-house and big room dance music imprint that this year celebrates its 20th birthday. To mark the occasion, founder and creative force Damian Lazarus has dipped into the archives and come up with a collection of rarities and previously unheard remixes. Starting with his own Jem Cooke collaboration 'Into The Sun', an atmospheric, deep tech-house excursion smothered in twinkling pianos and trance-inducing electronics, Lazarus offers up an enticing mix of chunky goodness (Art Department remixing Jamie Jones), percussion-rich after-hours wonkiness (Dennis Cruz reworked Pier Bucci), pulsating neo-trance (Audiojack re-imagined by Michael Mayer), tech-tinged deep house hypnotism (Black Coffee tweaking Made By Pete vs Zoe Kypri) and saucer-eyed Ibiza anthems (Maceo Plex).

Relax Shiva (7:31)
Relax Shiva (DJ Gregory remix) (7:00)
Review: 2023 has already seen the mighty Red Axes bringing their distinctive chugged-up, freaked-out style to Erol Alkan's Phantasy Sound, but now they're following up with this epic slice of deep immersion for Damian Lazarus' Crosstown Rebels. 'Relax Shiva' is steeped in finely-balanced trance touches which err towards genuine meditation than the slightly more obvious ends of the genre. It's a smouldering, slow-burn affair, but then what else would you expect from the Tel Aviv duo? When you get to the flip, Parisian legend DJ Gregory is on hand to thread his own set of psychoactive drums in around the Axes' sonic elements, creating a different kind of vessel for dancefloor escapism of the most spiritual nature.

Review: Dennis Cruz is a tune making machine. The Spaniard turns out plenty of house and tech variations on several notable labels and always manages to find a little freshness with each one. Here he is on Damian Lazarus-owned Crosstown Rebels with a couple of solo cuts but also two collaborations. Opener 'Snake Charmer' has a lead flute moody that will do just that over steamy jungle house beats while 'Time Out' is a stripped back house sound deiced by its huge diva vocals. The collabs are firstly 'Revolution' (feat DJ Holographic) with Lazarus himself, which is a slinky and liquid tech house sound for the dead of night, then a minimal and dark roller with Ian Ludvig.

Flash Point (8:35)
Transposed Sky (feat Paul Brenning) (5:34)
Review: Jonathan Kaspar returns to Damien Lazarus' Crosstown Rebels for another round of captivating and melodic techno by way of his latest EP 'We Come'. Already having graced the discographic annals of Cocoon and Kompakt, Kaspar's sound is now well established; his pushes and pulls adeptly between big room, dubby trance and broken-down electro and house, never quite placeable in the intermediary spaces between them. One could call it progressive house, but that would be underselling it; 'Flash Point' is the highlight here and the case in point, making masterful use of ducking and distortion to really flesh out the central syncopated stab as a focal point of the track. Nor should Paul Brenning's version of 'Transposed Sky' be missed for a second.

Review: If you ever doubted that Crosstown Rebels put out a genuine eclectic range of underground electronic sounds than check this one out - Lunar Disco bring some sleazy indie disco vibes to this one. 'Devil's Hand' has filthy bass and bumping drums with steamy vocals from singer-songwriter Kate Elsworth. DJ and composer Nicolas Blistene is behind the beats and a host of remixers add their own spin. The standout is from Swiss-Chilean master Luciano who does his textbook string and percussive thing. AudioFly's Anthony Middleton remixes with a more late night tech feel.

Analog Bugz
Review: Harry Romero returns to Crosstown Rebels as he links with vocalist Shyam P for 'Mind Games'. With a catalogue as rich as any and continuing at the top of his game two decades after his emergence within New York's fabled nightlife scene, Romero continues to serve up his own take of Latin-inspired and percussive-driven house music via a long list of the industry's leading imprints. Crafting a slick and heady groove before launching into a hypnotic haze accenting by a bubbling bassline, 'Mind Games' is an infectious and vibrant house cut as Shyam P's alluring vocals take hold amongst emotive builds and breaks. 'Mira', after, is a classic Romero offering as the focus shifts to crisp organic percussion arrangements, carnival-esque whistles and hooky Latin vocals for a bustling terrace number, before 'Analog Bugz' takes cues from its title as crisp drum shots and sharp stabs unite to create a no-nonsense builder made for the main room.

Tomorrow We Can Start Again
Review: On this second album from his Ancient Moons project, Damian Lazarus has decided to switch focus. Whereas the outfit's debut album, Message From The Other World, combined global music influences with Lazarus's usual tech-house rhythms and a touch of psychedelia, Heart of Sky is much more heavily influenced by the Crosstown Rebels' chief's rarely discussed soul boy roots. Of course, the beats and basslines still largely stick to the powder house script, it's just that this time they come accompanied by starry-eyed soul vocals, 1960s dream pop influences, bold piano flourishes, gospel choruses and, on rare occasions, smoky trip-hop aesthetics. As a result, it's undoubtedly a much more "human" album, and one with far more crossover potential than its predecessor.

Eurovoodoo (6:52)
El Sonido (9:05)
Review: More party techno from Italian A.M. specialist Riva Starr, who takes time out from his respected Snatch! Records for a top release on Damian Lazarus' esteemed imprint. The rolling main room people mover "Afrika" kicks things off in fine fashion. This bass heavy exercise reaches near tribal moments with its syncopated rhythmic grooves. He returns to the sound that made him popular in London (his hometown these days) in the mid noughties on the druggy afterhours minimal of "Eurovoodoo" channelling the vibe of those early m_nus records - but with some spooky witch doctor vocals atop. Finally on the flip, get ready for some spiritual life music that's probably aimed more at an African raindance rather than sun kissed White Isle hedonism that he's most usually affiliated with on "El Sonido". However, we are pretty sure it would equally go down well at Lazarus' regular appearances in Tulum and the Black Rock Desert.

Review: Pale Blue are the duo of Elizabeth Wight and Mike Simonetti, who released their debut album to much critical acclaim back in 2015. They come together once again with their latest EP for the mighty Crosstown Rebels. Simonetti and Wight have each earned musical stripes in their own rights: Simonetti founded the hugely popular Italians Do It Better, as well as his own successful record label, 2MR. Wight has previously lent her exhilarating vocals to the West Coast band Silver Hands. On offer here is some pop-inflected deep house that fits right in with Damian Lazarus' modus operandi here: from the brooding yet bittersweet title track, or the sexy noir-acid of "Daughter Of Babylon" which sounds like a drive through Los Angeles after midnight. Finally "Love" is a dark and strobe-lit after hours house jam which supports Wight's sultry dead-pan vocals perfectly.

Review: While Davide Squillace has been churning out underground hits for the best part of 20 years, his only previous full-length excursion was a compilation of remixes back in 2011. Once Upon a Time in Napoli, then, is a landmark release for the storied Italian producer. For the most part, the material sits somewhere between deep house and tech-house, with a range of intriguing influences - Balearica, synth disco, dub house, Afro-house and, most surprisingly, punk-funk - stirred in to add extra spice to Squillace's percussive and peak-time-friendly productions. Highlights come thick and fast, from the woozy brilliance of vocal opener "The Boogie Man" and deliciously wild and sweaty "Vostok", to the breezy deep house positivity of "Holy Motors" and low-slung "Napoli Texas', which is arguably the album's moodiest cut.

The first single is the evocative and heart wrenching slow-burner "Feedback Loop". It also receives a bunch of terrific remixes, which come courtesy of New York City's Serge Devant who delivers a sleek tech-house perspective, Bedouin's remix nails that woozy and esoteric Crosstown Rebels vibe perfectly but best of all is the legendary Mad Professor who delivers his version: the Ariwa dub 1.

His contribution to the Get Lost series from Crosstown Rebels is no different with the CD edition containing a mammoth 37 tracks across the two discs. Whilst it was near impossible for the label to include all these tracks on this accompanying triple LP edition, Crosstown Rebels should be commended for including some of the highlights of Richards two diverse mixes. As such you get some classic early '90s NJ Garage from Black Rascals sharing space with the Mancunian tropics of Ruf Dug, vintage STL, Lowlands electro from Parallax Corporation, classic Kenny Larkin and more.

Review: Given that it was arguably one of the strongest cuts on his acclaimed third album, P.U.M.P, it's nice to see Ali Love's Perfect Picture getting a single release. The original - a typically exhilarating fusion of rave-era breaks, Balearic house chords and Hot Creations tech-house throb is joined by a trio of remixes. Skream kicks things off, abandoning dubstep and disco (his most recent obsession) in favour of a thumping, woozy fusion of tech-house pump and grime style electronics. On the flip, there's some tactile, groovy deep house/tech-house fusion from Luca Cazal & Dubka (our pick) and, most triumphantly, a late night dub from Route 94 blessed with epic breakdowns and a sub-heavy groove.

Review: Amazingly, it's been a decade since the demise of Damian Lazarus' acclaimed hipster label City Rockers, and the subsequent birth of Crosstown Rebels - a label that has done more to reinvent tech and deep house for a new generation than almost any other. This unmixed triple-CD collection tells the story so far, showcasing early gems from the likes of Tiga ("Pleasure from the Bass" memorably remixed by Sub-Ann), Kiki & Silversurfer and Sheffield misfits Hiem (remixed by Matthew Johnson), alongside big tunes and familiar favourites from Maceo Plex, Jamie Jones, Art Department and others. There are few surprises, but that's not the point: as a celebration of one of the most influential labels of the last decade goes, it's spot on.

Review: Al hail the return of the Aphrohead! Over twenty years on from Felix 'Da Housecat' Stallings first surfacing under the Aphrohead guise, the US production and DJ legend is set to explore the alter ego with a new album length adventure slate for release on Crosstown Rebels later in the year. Whilst full details of this sixth studio album from Aphrohead are still under wraps, the Crosstown crew have laid down a marker for what to expect in the shape of Grown Man Cry. One sided white labels are geared for the clubs and that's certainly the case here as Felix offers up a slab of no nonsense emotionally weighted house music that's an exercise in wringing the maximum impact from the minimum of elements. Stallings production expertise really comes to the fore here as subtle filtering is implemented over a relentlessly jacking 909 groove.
