About Face (8:36)
Baited Drum Lines (Deep Sea dub) (4:04)
Freeze Action (Desire) (6:46)
Review: Newcomer Hugo Gerani, an Australian house aficionado, debuts both his productions and new label Good Company, what we like to see y'all! The title track "About Face" is a deep house stunner that drills its way across crunchy 707 swings and rickety cowbells; "Baited Drum Lines (deep sea dub)" is wonky, deranged and falling over its own beat to make an exquisite stumble of watery melodies and gentle waves of euphoria; "Freeze Action (Desire)" is a lo-fi house nugget with beautiful swarms of echo and reverb. All in all, a fine debut, indeed!

Quando (7:49)
Adriatic Bolt (4:37)
I Don't Care Who You Are (4:30)
Quiet Force (5:40)
Review: According to their Soundcloud page, the Balearic Gabba Sound System are "geezers with a common love for sonically weird, feel good, bona fide recordings with a twist..." and that's good enough for us! Marco Gallerani, Bjorn Torske and even Prins Thomas are rumoured to have been involved in the project. Following up some great releases and remixes on on Hell Yeah and Secret Life, they land on Phil South's stellar Golf Channel and get stuck in straight away on "Quando" a hazy, psychedelic and slow burning epic for the early evening punters or the early morning sunrise alike. "Adriatic Bolt" is a cute little pop-inflected 80's style number while "I Dont Care Who You Are" gets back to the chill-out room on this beatless cosmic affair, featuring some pretty impressive vocals. The bubblegum acid of "Quiet Force" closes out proceedings appropriately.

Devotion (5:59)
Basic Instinct (Club Scene) (6:46)
Fresh Exit (4:44)
Paw Paw (8:06)
Review: Having previously delivered killer 12" singles from established talents Aquarian Foundation and Anom Vitruv, Canada's Total Stasis has turned to the previously unseen CS & Kreme. The project is in fact a new collaborative endeavour from Melbourne musicians Conrad Standish and Sam Karmel, known for their respective work in Standish/Carlyon and F ingers. Together, their atmospheric, world-weary, ambient house influenced sounds are fully in keeping with the imprint's output. They begin with the ultra-deep, ultra-dreamy downtempo vibes of "Devotion", before getting busy with a drum machine and electric piano on the enveloping "Basic Instinct (Club Scene)". This formula is explored further on the deliciously evocative and atmospheric "Fresh Exit", before they head to the heavens on the deep space ambience of "Paw Paw".

Searching (vocal mix) (5:21)
Searching (radio mix) (5:23)
Private Party (6:25)
Life Rhythm (5:18)
Review: Under the Javonntte pseudonym, Brian Garrett has delivered some of the most impressive deep house records of recent years. Predictably, the quality threshold remains high throughout this latest Javonntte EP, Garett's first for Alex Attias's Visions Inc. label. On the A-side you'll find "Vocal" and "Radio" versions of "Searchin", a soul-powered chunk of analogue-rich deepness that sits somewhere between the musically complex brilliance of Ron Trent and the slick, rolling warmth of early '90s Goldtone Records releases. Turn to the B-side and you'll find "Private Party", a chunkier and rougher, riff-propelled peak-time bumper, and the redlined, Chez Damier-meets-Derrick Carter bounce of "Life Rhythm". As the old cliche goes, this is all killer and no filler.

What About Love (Rob Manga edit) (4:27)
Peace Of Mind (Illco edit) (3:37)
DR DJ (Mr Mendel edit) (6:45)
Review: More deviant Dutch disco funk as three of The Netherlands finest share some time on the Sunshine Sound imprint. Rob Manga takes us deep into the sleaze with a low-swung groove that loops right down into the gutter. Illco flips the vibe and cleanses our soul with the more spiritual Sun Ra style "Peace Of Mind". Finally Mr Mendel keeps us up all night with his salacious boogie funk twist with Candido inspired results - watch out for the drums midway. Wow.

Solitarity (5:17)
Police State (5:53)
Surveillance (5:55)
Review: As the back cover makes clear, Negative Hallucination is a collaboration between Pittsburgh Track Authority member Thomas Cox, and Africans With Mainframes member Noleian Reusse. Given their respective recording histories, you'd perhaps expect this debut EP to be full of bumpin', acid-flecked house. In fact, it's an altogether looser and more melodious affair, with opener "Solitarity" [sic] expertly combining elements from krautrock, analogue house, and cheery Balearic disco. The freaky, alien attack that is off-kilter jacker "Police State" is perhaps more in-keeping with their analogue house histories, while "Surveillance" expertly joins the dots between dub techno, lo-fi house, and intergalactic electronica.

808zz (8:06)
Scampifries (4:53)
B2 (4:52)
Review: Potty minded Scotsman Dave Paton gets unreal with his first Wee DJs vinyl in over two years. Four tracks galore, side A sees us writhing to the dark funk on 'Saltandvinegar' before '808zz' gets all breezy and bouncy. Side B goes in hard with the b-boy trippiness of 'Scampifries' while 'B2' is every bit as straight talking and forthright as its title. Big booming warehouse tackle, perfect for dancing off all those greasy chips. Drank too much pop? Cross your legs and wait till you get home!

Track 4 (6:25)
Review: The edit and rework-focused Hot Peas 'N Butter series has never come clean about who is behind it, though so far each of its named editors has been based in the Steel City of Sheffield. Here two of the series' most prolific editors, thatmanmonkz and pal Simba, join forces to deliver four-more sneaky re-rubs. Check first the driving disco-soul funk of "Track 1", before diving headfirst into the two-step jazz-funk brilliance of "Track 2", a cut that contains some fantastic dueling horn solos. Over on side B, "Track 3" is a smoothed out, proto-house style take on a synth-laden early electro number complete with silly pitched-up vocal snippets, while "Track 4" sees the Sheffield duo put their own spin on a particularly spacey cut from the Prelude back catalogue.

Sugar Cane (6:00)
The Void (4:38)
Sad Days (5:40)
Noar (6:17)
Review: There's plenty to set the pulse racing on the latest EP from long-serving electro producer Automat, whose recent outing on Brokntoys is also well worth a listen. Opener "Sugar Cane" eases us in gently, with the French producer opting for a slow and sanguine deep electro flavour, before the chunky and pleasingly spacey analogue deep house/electro fusion of "The Void" begins to get the blood pumping. Peak-time pressure arrives on B-side opener "Sad Days", where wild acid lines and rubbery machine bass drive a ghetto-tech style electro rhythm forwards at a frenetic pace, while closer "Noar" is a post-apocalyptic slab of clandestine, industrial electro darkness.

Show Me Luv (6:13)
Ohh, JAAAZ (6:10)
Let Me Treble (4:06)
Review: Digger and editor extraordinaire John Zahl returns with three more deep dug oddities from the disco cosmos. Early 80s stadium synth boogie with Italo stamped deep into the core and some fantastic horn stabs, "Show Me Luv" kickstarts the party all synths blazing. It's backed up by an Alexander O'Neal meets-D-Train smoocher "Oh Jaaaz" before "Let Me Treble" closes the show with a vibe that you could imagine Abba sounding like if they spent a day on the beach jamming on high doses of peyote. Divine.

Twelve Steps (6:15)
Just Give It A Long Shot (4:06)
Review: Enjoying a brief sojourn away from then 2000 Black label he's long called home, sometime 4hero member Dego pops up on Neroli with a two-tracker that blends his usual jazz-funk inspired instrumentation with warm and fragrant, dancefloor-focused grooves. The jazz-funk influence is strongest on flipside "Just Give It A Long Shot", a more languid affair rich in squiggly synth lines, toasty bass guitar, slack-tuned drum breaks and the kind of group vocals that would have once sent rare groove heads into a spin. A-side "Twelve Steps" is arguably even better, with whispered vocals, jazzy synth lines and sunny guitars wrapping around a pleasingly rubbery Brit-funk groove.

Easily (6:08)
Mizells (6:15)
Launchpad (5:56)
Bring It (5:40)
Review: For the second salvo on Cornhusker Records, the publicity-shy crew is treating us to a quartet of re-edits starting impressively with "Easily", a floor-focused rearrangement of a slap bass, woodblock and sax-heavy chunk of jazz-funk goodness, before turning a jaunty Mizell Brothers cut into a rolling house groover. The fun continues on side B, where the sweaty percussive Hammond funk of "Launchpad" is followed by head-in-the-clouds delight "Bring It", a subtle scalpel rework of a Clavinet-sporting Blaxploitation era disco-funk workout. Given the variety and quality on show, this has the feel of a record that might stay in your "playing out" box for a while.

David Jones Is Dead (1:38)
Dear Angeline (2:59)
I'm Not The Only One (3:09)
Review: Big guitars playing huge hooks at a propellant pace. The Goods deliver their debut EP, which looks to decades worth of garage rock and pop punk heritage for influence, while ensuring the finished tracks are every bit theirs. Retro revivalism this isn't, a veteran singer-songwriter known for sharp lines drafting seasoned talent from his local music scene in order to make something new, this most definitely is. Headed up by Rob Good, a well-known figure in the underground Oakland guitar scene, California, for the three tracks here - and this project - he's called upon rhythm section and human drum machine Paul Wiseman and highly respected session bassist Cherron Arena. The result is an EP that's personal and passionate, and incredibly thoughtful, while also compelling and high octane. A refreshing indie whirlwind.

45 Degrees (feat Camilo Miranda) (4:15)
Del Arrecife (4:21)
45 Degrees (Camilo Miranda Thumpin' mix) (7:16)
Review: Get yourself poolside for a much-needed repress of this 2021 gem from Lips & Rhythm cool crew Bad Kids Beach Club. It's a poolside fever dream with one eye on the Balearics and the other on the astral plane, as Jesse Sizmo and Seb Hall unfurl a veritable barge of plush synths on your downtempo-hungry ears. '45 Degrees' is indeed a sizzler, while 'Del Arrecife' takes a more sultry, late night approach to the executive lounge. Camilo Miranda then slides in for a drums-up remix of '45 Degrees' which adds some chugging tension to the mix in superlative style.

Brother (Alan Dixon Piano reprise remix) (2:24)
Brother (Alan Dixon Love Attack remix) (6:49)
The New Normal (5:59)
Review: Philip Leroi has had many musical lives over the years, variously recording as Linntronix and alongside Danny Sugarman as Stylus Heat. Atlantic Brain is his latest project, with the EP for Prins Thomas's Internasjonal label being his most high-profile to date. The key cut is 'Brother', a sparkling, melodious and attractive slab of electro marked out by squelchy bass and star-fall melodies. Rising star Alan Dixon delives two takes: a gorgeous, largely beat-free 'Piano Reprise' that sits at the rhythmic end of the ambient spectrum and the squelchy nu-disco-goes-deep house 'Love Attack Mix'. Elsewhere, 'The New Normal' is a shuffling and ghostly electro-not-electro number and 'Sticky Fingers' is a pleasingly wayward acid excursion.
