Review: London Records has announced a deluxe reissue of Orbital's iconic debut album, affectionately known as the Green Album. Originally released in 1991, it straddled the line between rave and ambient techno, featuring timeless tracks like 'Chime', 'Belfast,' and the Butthole Surfers-sampling 'Satan.' Now, those tracks are considered cornerstones of the early UK techno movement. This 4 disc CD set offers the most comprehensive experience, with the original album on disc one and a treasure trove of Green Album-era B-sides, remixes, and alternative versions on discs two and three. Disc four treats fans to two live sets from 1991/92, sourced from the band's soundboard recordings. Wrapped in a 12" box, the deluxe edition includes reprinted flyers from the era and a lavish 60-page hardback book chronicling the Green Album's story, complete with new notes and a track-by-track analysis by Phil and Paul Hartnoll. This reissue is a must-have for Orbital fans and electronic music aficionados alike, offering a comprehensive exploration of a seminal album's legacy.

Plants (Snad remix) (7:17)
Review: UK mainstay Subb-An makes a welcome return with this fresh new EP on Aesthetic. It finds him in great form with opener 'Seeing Colours' heading off down a nice liquid minimal route with crisp tech drums and twinkling synths up top to bring the magic. On the flip side is 'Plants', a rather serene and sublime cut with more rolling drums and plenty of deft synth designs that bring a certain celestial charm to the fizzing leads. Snad's remix then shuts things down with a more driving sense of tech house rhythm to complete a tasteful EP of heady sounds.

Review: Jay Bliss brings his classy tech house touch to this sixth EP on the Berg Audio label. It begins with the title track which is a futuristic mix of silky and serene synth lines and smooth but propulsive drums. 'Pressure' rocks back and forth on a metallic loop and layers up the balmy pads, while 'Rocket Science' has a more textured feel and zippy little synth details that bring plenty of intrigue. 'Stellar Flux' closes out with another comically inclined fusion of dynamic drums and heady synth patterns, this time with a playful neo-disco undertone.

Review: Alessio Barletta's BAL EP showcases his versatility within the electronic music spectrum. 'Operation' captivates with its playful electro beats and robotic vocals, while 'Roger' delivers a vibrant and engaging electro house experience. 'Plus Floor' takes a more traditional approach with driving, futuristic house and techno sounds. Perhaps, the EP's highlight, 'Tense Discussion,' adds an eerie melody and acid line, creating an atmospheric and science fiction soundscape. Barletta's masterful production and diverse range of styles make the BAL EP an essential listen for fans of electronic dance music.

G-Prod - "Moonlight" (David Duriez Floating Light mix) (6:27)
Review: Soiree hands over its next 12" to a pair of artists who take care of one side each. Drivetrain goes first with 'The Moonlight' which is a moon-lit jaunt through a futuristic city scope with broken beats and neon chords. 'Moonlight & You' carries over similar melodies with steely drums and vocal harmonies, and then G-Prod steps up with 'Moonlight' which brings a more stripped back and dark groove run through with acid menace. Last of all is David Duriez with his Floating Light mix of the same cut and it's a dreamy deep house roller for cosy basements.

Review: The Melvins, known for their unapologetically experimental and abrasive sound, continue their legacy of sonic exploration with Tarantula Heart, set for release via Ipecac Recordings. The album, featuring a five-track lineup, including the sprawling 19-minute opener 'Pain Equals Funny, which displays the band's penchant for pushing the boundaries of conventional music. One of the album's defining features is the incorporation of dual drum parts, with longtime Melvins drummer Dale Crover teaming up with Roy for an impressive display of rhythmic complexity. This collaboration adds a new dimension to the Melvins' sound, further solidifying their reputation as pioneers of unconventional music. Recorded, mixed, and co-produced by Toshi Kasai, a longtime collaborator of the band, Tarantula Heart adds to the album's eclectic sonic palette. While The Melvins may never achieve mainstream success due to their avant-garde approach, this album stands by their unwavering commitment to artistic integrity and innovation, making it a must-listen for fans of boundary-pushing music everywhere.

Review: Italy's finest sound-purveyors Slow Motion proffer a fantastic new release from CEO Fabrizio Mammarella in collaboration with Rodion, collaboratively recorded at the Marche Synth Museum (Museo Del Synth Marchigiano). A fully functional recording space, the museum houses several private collections of Italian electronic musical instruments, gathered over the many years since their creation; whether the artists actually got to use any of these classic machines remains to be uttered, but we can't deny that they were inspired. Both artists do thorough justice to their Marche region roots here, laying down eight slices of industrial dungeon-electro, mind-melting acid rollouts and spoken-n'-spelled ritual dances.

Lowtec was behind the original which came on Out To Lunch and these new versions are DJ friendly and extended and will have you in a day dream in no time. The chords are perfectly liquid, the drums frayed around the edges, warm and analogue, the vocal hooks are slight but pack a seriously soulful punch. Review: Nowhere does techno as proper as Planet Rhythm. This latest 12" is another no-frills banger with rusty synth and menacing drum loops all perfectly intertwined. There is a hurried sense of funk to 'Formation' that really keeps you on edge, while 'Basel' is turbocharged with video-game style synths. 'Romance' gets more edgy and brings some industrial percussion and automation to the beats while 'Here' slips into thumping and loopy house territory of the sort that reminds us of the one and only Floorplan.

Review: Bill Frisell's Orchestras, a collaboration with composer-arranger Michael Gibbs, showcases the transformative power of jazz when paired with symphonic ensembles. The album combines Frisell's trio with the Brussels Philharmonic and the Umbria Jazz Orchestra, resulting in a dynamic interplay between jazz intimacy and orchestral grandeur. Gibbs' masterful orchestrations, inspired by Gil Evans and cinematic scores, seamlessly enhance the trio's telepathic rapport. Frisell's signature shimmering sound blends effortlessly with strings and brass, creating a rich and expressive tapestry. Notably, the collaboration highlights the deep connection between Frisell and Gibbs, a legendary innovator in jazz arranging. Gibbs' intuitive writing draws out the trio's spontaneity and pushes them into uncharted territory. Frisell and Gibbs' mutual admiration and influence create a palpable energy throughout the album, showcasing the transformative power of collaboration.

He has been at it again it seems and now has a whole bunch of brilliantly dishevelled cuts for us on this new album U Know The Score on Something. It is packed with twitchy, urgent rhythms punctuated with occult sounds, smudgy melodies and shards of melody that all sound like they could collapse at any moment, but until they do, you will be locked in for the ride. Some are dark, some are light, all of them are brilliantly beguiling.

Heralding an exciting new era for the duo, these 12 songs reveal the depth and breadth of producer NK-OK, and multi-instrumentalist Mr DM's musical ambition. Throwing back to their debut EP 'Blue Skies', which even pre-dates their involvement with record labels, Blue Eclipse signals a circling back to their origins while also embracing the new; the pair's usual jazztronica remit is lent the utmost contemporary spin, with notes of drill, neoclassical, trap and Jersey bounce - all still prevalent styles - peeking through in these latest productions.

Review: South African Warrick Sony is a ground breaking composer who was behind the Kalahari Surfers project which now gets a vital spotlight courtesy of Emotional Rescue. This compilation shows how effortlessly eclectic his sound was - from jive rhythms to jazz, tabla to political speeches and much more in between. A Hindu pacifist who was once conscripted into the South African Defense Force, he founded this group as a way out getting his ides out there, calling on other musicians as and when he needed them. It was the first radical white anti-apartheid pop in South Africa and as this vital collection shows it explored polyrhythms, slow motorik, dub sound collage and even a goofy cover of Nancy Sinatra.

Review: Steve O'Sullivan recently launched the Blue Channel project as a kind of sonic companion to his similarly minded dub techno work as Blue Train, in the process paying tribute to Berlin's masters of the extended dubbed-out groove, Basic Channel. This is the second EP in an ongoing series and begins with a fresh 'Bluetrain Special Edition Dub' of 'Complete With U', a track featured (in its original mix form) on the previous EP. This take is more percussively propulsive and addictive - thanks to a locked-in dub house style groove - with warmer synth sounds and echoing vocalisations. It's basically a hat-tip to classic Rhythm & Sound singles of old, albeit with drums that more neatly fit into a wider variety of DJ sets. Over on side B, 'Traveller' is a fine slab of pitched-down vocal digi-dub with added ambient dub sonics.

Review: Albertan experimenter Dylan Khotin follows up last year's full-length with an equally impressionistic two-tracker and logical successor, 'Alterac Acid/Mornings II'. Both tracks here are curious digi-Balearic offerings, with spacious episcopies of sound cast across meandering landscapes once seemingly trawled by space invaders and/or deep-cosmos probes. A nearly aimless acid line unfurls across the A-side, locking things into a nice stasis, before a more subdued, dare say clipped stab-womp drives the action of the B-track, which hardly so much as teases its drum line, nor avails itself of a need to even use drums at all (at points) to compel the listener into a driven, awestruck state of bliss.

Review: Romanian label Tonomat rightfully got plenty of attention for its first release and backs up that good work with a second notable 12" here. This one comes from Christopher Ledger and starts off with the acid-laced breaks and electro-tinged rhythms of 'It's Always Dark Here'. The machines are also in fine fettle on the slapping breaks and warped synths of 'Unpleasant Surprise' while 'Be Right Back' rides on the heaviest drums of the lot - full of snap and bite, they're run through with backlit pads and warped acid lines. Lastly, Tonomat Soundsystem step up with a Revamp of 'Unpleasant Surprise' to close down with a darkly seductive sound.

Review: Chaos Rocks, the fourth album from Alan Davey's Hawkestrel project, continues the forward-looking trajectory initiated by The Future Is Us five years ago. The record maintains the project's tradition of star-studded collaborations. Notably, former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor joins in, lending his guitar prowess to tracks alongside legends like Bob Calvert and Nik Turner. While 'Evil Rock' features Calvert's classic vocal from his Hype LP, the numbers with Turner and Huw Huw Lloyd-Langton offer fresh material. Davey sheds light on the inclusion of unreleased recordings, explaining that Turner's contributions were recorded six years ago, while Cleopatra Records secured the rights to Lloyd-Langton's guitar playing. Despite the passing of Mick Slattery, whose contributions are acknowledged, Chaos Rocks stands as a testament to Hawkestrel's commitment to preserving and evolving the legacy of these iconic musicians.

'Ominira' is his latest long player that once again, finds a home on the French label Favorite Recordings. An album full of rich sounding musical textures that cross boundaries and bridge many genres such as Latin, soul, house, jazz and pop. The vibrant summer jams 'The Bravest Heart' and 'Novos Planos' are A-side standouts that will surely excite veteran and new listeners alike, who are into World music. '4:28' and 'The Mountain' start the second side with some catchy instrumentals that give off memorable beachy 70s vibes. ' Projecoes' closes the album with one of the most soulful performances of the album. All and all, you have a wonderful sounding jazzy grooved piece that ups the expectation of what a Latin jazz album can be. Cafe Del Mar approved!

Review: In the realm of electronic music, 'In Your Face' EP by Acerbic emerges as a sonic assault that shatters boundaries and plunges listeners into an abyss of acid-tinged techno. An adrenaline-fueled shot, this four-track E.P. pulsates with raw energy and uncompromising intensity. 'In Your Face' sets the tone with its relentless 90s acid techno grooves, transporting listeners to the heart of the rave scene. Its abrasive and confrontational energy creates an atmosphere both exhilarating and intimidating. 'Assimilate' takes on a darker and more menacing persona, as the stomping beats and menacing synths evoke images of underground warehouse parties. 'I'm Fvxked' cranks up the intensity ever higher, pushing the boundaries of acid techno with its relentless pace and distorted soundscapes. The E.P. concludes with 'Never Changes', a testament to the enduring power of hardcore techno. Acerbic's In Your Face E.P. is a sonic tour de force that pushes the limits of techno music. Its aggressive and confrontational approach leaves an indelible mark on the listener. Hardcore, you know the score!

Review: Nick and Astro, known collectively as Potatohead People, join forces once again on a tantalising teaser 7" from their upcoming album, Eat Your Heart Out'. Featured on 'Paradise' is the highly hyped Canadian artist Diamond Cafe, whose velvety vocals grace this early 80s-inspired blend of digital sex funk that will remind you of Sade, El Debarge, and Prefab Sprout. Describing his music as "bathing in a cloud of honey on a very foggy night," Diamond Cafe's performance is nothing short of magic here. On the flipside, Nick Wisdom puts his spin on the track, infusing it with dub elements and enhancing the bassline.

Known for their visceral sonic assault and immersive live performances, the series offers fans a deeper dive into their sonic universe. 'Don't Turn The Radio'/'This Is All For You', the third release in the series, delivers a raw and personal glimpse into the band's creative process during the See Through You era. APTBS founder Oliver Ackermann explains the decision to return to their roots with this release format, allowing each track to speak for itself without album context. These tracks offer a stark contrast to the band's current sound, providing a snapshot of a moment in time.

Review: Adam Wiltzie is an American-born, Belgium-based ambient composer, sound designer, film soundtracker and one half of A Winged Victory For The Sullen. His latest album-length suite was inspired by two things: a recurring dream in which people die after listening to his music, and a fascination with sodium pentathol, a barbiturate routinely used as a general anaesthetic. It's a kind of musical exploration of - to paraphrase his label's accompanying press release - tiptoeing between beauty and oblivion, or sleepiness and wakefulness. Mixed by Loop man Robert Hampson and featuring strings recorded in Budapest, the album ebbs and flows majestically, with billowing orchestral moments nestling side by side with creepy ambience, immersive and dream-like soundscapes, simmering melodic motifs and the kind of arty but enveloping fare that reminded us a little of the Orb and Robert Fripp's mid-90s FFWD project.

Review: Reboot has been committed to the art of minimal tech house for a long time now, and his sound evolves with the same measured elegance as his DJ sets. There's space for balmy deep house chords and disco loops in the stew now, but crisp functionality and tracky immersion remains the order of the day as 'Make You Move' locks into to its seductive arrangement. 'Alternate' toys with swirling, dubby synth work around the steadfast beat, while 'Unstop' piles on a little more hand-drum action for a dense, engrossing rhythm workout - whichever mood you're after and however long you want to ride them, these tracks won't let you down in the mix.

Rushen's songs, including hits like 'Forget Me Nots' and 'Haven't You Heard,' have left an indelible mark on popular music, with countless artists sampling her work. Tracks like 'Givin' It Up Is Givin' Up' and 'Remind Me' highlight Rushen's electrifying performances and innovative sound. They say they are on a mission to dive deep into the menacing world of early 90s jungle and cook up tunes reminiscent of that era and then serve them up lovely slabs of 10" wax. And right from the off the man who never misses, Tim Reaper, transports us back to the driving breakbeats and raw energy of that time with a pair of tunes that layer up a flurry of snares and booming low ends with wiry synths the sense of futurism that still holds true to this day. Sure to captivate old-school heads and new listeners alike.

Review: Earlier in the year, Miss You offered up a first ever 12-inch pressing of Patrizia Pellegrino obscurity 'Il Mondo Da Una Nuvola', an obscure Italo-disco B-side that they backed with their own tastefully executed extended mix. Here they repeat the trick with one of the Italian singer and actress's earlier B-sides, 1982 gem 'Musica Spaziale'. In its original form (track one), the song is a throbbing, heavily electronic chunk of infectious Italo-disco excellence topped off with a decidedly cosmic lead vocal from Pellegrino. It comes backed with a suitably moody, chugging and even more musically expansive 'Extended Mix', and a fine TB-303-laden Italo-meets-acid revision courtesy of the cheekily monikered 'DJ Asshole'. Space disco for the win!

Review: Sweden-based Bosnian producer Sev Dah continues to shape out an impressive strain of techno through his self-steered Proletarijat label, creating high-impact, uptempo workouts which keep a necessary funk and personality in the overall sound. 'Azici 89' is certainly a slammer, but it's also riding on a seductive swing and there's space for choice atmospheric pads to temper the rasp of the bumping drums. 'Makac' revolves around an insistent synth-organ lick in a nod to Robert Hood's classic brand of loopy business, while 'Singing Like' jacks up the drums and threads through some processed snatches of vocals credited to Leoni and Naomi.

Review: Originally written and produced by Japanese power couple Tatsuro Yamashita and Mariya Takeuchi in 1984, 'Xin Ai' stood out as one of the quintessences of Japanese city pop at the time. Later in 1991, it was covered with new Cantonese lyrics by Anita Mui; and now, over three decades later, yet another cover version surfaces again in Cantonese by Anita Mui, lending the song a completely fresh bedroom pop aura. Still retaining something ineffable of that 80s drum-machinic stuttery steeze and yet also recalling the decade's cusped interest in video game music as trailblazed by YMO, 'Xin Ai' comes in the form of a club mix and a karaoke version, and continues to push a well-documented stylistic yoke.

Flipping to Side 2, 'Alvorada' unfolds as a smooth, ambient techno gem, showcasing melodic intricacies that enchant the listener. The EP concludes with the E-Talking remix of 'Alvorada,' displaying a fresh and updated interpretation of the original. This remix maintains the track's smoothness while injecting
