Review: David Bowie's Rock 'n' Roll Star! chronicles the transformative journey that culminated in his Ziggy Stardust masterpiece. Spanning from February 1971 to the recording of 1972's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, this compilation presents 14 rare and previously unreleased tracks that trace Bowie's artistic metamorphosis. From early Ziggy Session takes to alternative versions and outtakes, this vinyl release offers an intimate glimpse into Bowie's creative process. Each track reveals a different facet of the artist, from the proto-glam of 'Hang On To Yourself' to the soaring balladry of 'Holy Holy.' The album culminates with two iconic performances: an energetic Top Of The Pops rendition of 'Starman' and an alternative version of 'John, I'm Only Dancing' that showcases Bowie's diverse musical talents. Mastered at half-speed, this black vinyl LP provides an immersive and nuanced listening experience.

Review: David Bowie's Diamond Dogs is a seminal album in his career, released in 1974 amidst the glam rock era. The album plunges into a dystopian world, with Bowie adopting the persona of Halloween Jack, a feral survivor in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Songs like 'Rebel Rebel' and 'Diamond Dogs' capture the album's raw energy and cynicism, while '1984' reflects Bowie's fascination with George Orwell's novel. Diamond Dogs remains a very important record to Bowie's artistic vision and musical prowess. While many remember the album as the transition period between Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke, the music is equally as memorable. Its themes of alienation, rebellion, and survival continue to resonate with listeners today, making this anniversary edition a valuable addition to any Bowie fan's collection.

Review: Sony records is celebrating 50 years in music in 2024 and coincidentally, Diamond Dogs by David Bowie is also sharing that same timeline. Considered by many, to be the last album released of his glam rock period after disbanding his backup band The Spiders From Mars. With his career direction in some question and longtime guitarist Mick Ronson gone, you have arguably one of the interesting studio albums of his career. Led by the hit 'Rebel Rebel', the album marked a turn for Bowie's songwriting having been inspired by a recent interview he did for Rolling Stone with WIlliam S Burroughs. An admirer of Burroughs' working methods and his 1964 novel Nova Express, Bowie revealed he had begun using Burroughs's "cut-up" technique as a way for inspiration. Ultimately, Diamond Dogs is most important for being the transition point from Ziggy Stardust to the Thin White Duke which catapulted Bowie's success in the United States. While only having one modest hit from the album, Diamond Dogs was still a big success. In hindsight, it would also help establish David Bowie as an artist where fans wanted to hear his entire work and not just a single's worth and to Bowie, that showed that his personality was winning over his audience and that his new direction was a good choice.

Review: Everyone has their favourite Bowie, of course, but Ziggy Stardust has a special place for all and sundry as it marks a noticeable shift in Bowie's sound from Hunky Dory into the fabulous, glam rock 70s era. The classics are so iconic it's almost surreal to consider them in the context of their original presentation on this album, but from 'Starman' to 'Suffragette City' there's no end to the songwriting rock n' roll perfection Bowie achieved here. There's not much more that needs to be said about such an important record, but this newly half-speed remastered version is not to be sniffed at for those who like to hear the music with the best possible fidelity.

Review: A year on from the untimely demise of the most influential British musician of the last fifty years, and on the eve of what would have been his seventieth birthday, here we have the opportunity to view his whole jaw-dropping career across the course of two slabs of wax. From the cosmic dread of 'Space Oddity' all the way to the reflective melancholy of 'I Can't Give Everything Away', it's a magnificent testimony to a restless muse that never stopped moving into unchartered territory in search of new adventure. These songs will outlive us all.

Review: The one and only David Bowie was an untouchable talent no matter what he was doing - recording music, inventing personas, acting in films, speaking on futurism, or playing live for radio and TV. Now, this five CD boxset celebrates that fact with more than 80 tracks included and spanning all of his discography between the years of 1967 and 1995. The Broadcast Collection on Cult Legends incudes everything you want it to and more from 'In The Heat Of The Morning' (more than one version is included) to 'Unwashed & Somewhat Slightly Dazed' and plenty of other gems.

Review: 'Heroes' is the David Bowie song even people who aren't fans of David Bowie love. It is also the title of the 12th studio album from the British maverick and one of his most successful. It comes from his famous 70s Berlin period and was written in West Berlin with collaborator Brian Eno and producer Tony Visconti. Most of the tunes were crafted in the studio, on the spot, with Bowie adding his lyrics later. It was a commercial hit that peaked at number three on the UK albums chart and features one half of conventional rock tunes and one half of more instrumental tracks.

Review: From 'The Laughing Gnome' to 'Blackstar', everyone has their favourite period of Bowie's career. At the same time, it's a brave person who would dispute that the time frame of this quadruple CD collection is generally accepted to be the moment when the Think White Duke was at his absolute creative peak. Recorded in Los Angeles and Tokyo, the set includes material from the undeniably classic albums including Diamond Dogs and The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust plus a clutch of additional renditions of the equally revered 'Space Oddity', 'The Man Who Sold The World' and the teasingly homoerotic 'Boys Keep Swinging'.

Review: This special 50th Anniversary Edition of the late great David Bowie's soundtrack to his iconic Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars show comes on double gold vinyl for the first time since it was originally recorded. Despite Ziggy being Bowie's most loved alter ego, he retired it much to the chagrin of fans (and band members, who had no idea it was coming) live on stage at London's Hammersmith Odeon. The farewell speech he gave is included here along with a medley of 'The Jean Genie'/'Love Me Do' and 'Round And Round' featuring Jeff Beck and plenty of other Bowie classics from that era. A real moment of rock 'n' roll history, then.

Review: Parlophone are embarking on a mammoth Bowie reissue campaign. 'Black Tie White Noise' marked the beginning of his '90s era, and saw him reunite with Let's Dance co-producer and writer Nile Roders (Chic) as well as the guitarist for Ziggy Stardust, Mick Ronson. Dreamy and art-rocky, this album might be described as Bowie's loungiest. It's best suited for steamy cocaine nights in stopover penthousesl croony drawler funk for the Bowie-Boeing business class.

Strangers When We Meet (5:07)
Review: Parlophone are embarking on a mammoth Bowie reissue campaign. 'Outside' was another artifact of the artist's "industrial" '90s era. Unlike 'Earthling', it segwayed neatly between techno and dreamy art rock. For example: the self-titled track is a meditation on time via reverb-drenched band instrumentation, but is suddenly augmented by sampled breakbeats at the halfway mark. 'We Prick You' is similarly industrial, mumbly and weird, yet also just as catchy; this is Bowie's ode to outsider music, made in a weird spate of recording sessions wherein the artist vowed to commit a series of "art crimes".

Review: Parlophone are embarking on a mammoth Bowie reissue campaign. 'Hours', from 1997, followed up the industrial epic 'Earthling', and its front cover quite literally depicts Bowie laying a prior incarnation of himself to rest, like a regenerated Doctor Who. Unlike the dour and grim soundscapes portrayed in his earlier albums from the era, this one brings with it a soft ambient pop sound, nighly sounding like something between J-pop, Lamb and Smith And Mighty. It's certainly Bowie's most atmospheric and trip-hoppy album, and rightly features acoustic backings, Mellotron, and angelic vocals from Holly Palmer.

In 1990 he was taking new paths to rejuvenate his creativity and before he embarked on it fully he headed out on his 1990 Sound+Vision Tour which was to be one final goodbye to many of his most famous back catalogue hits. It's a superb swan song that was captured in all its glory and is now presented here on multicoloured marble vinyl. As far as greatest hits go, it's as great as they get.

Review: Legend has it that David Bowie was so lost in a vortex of cocaine and ego during the making of this record to such a degree that he now can't remember anything about its creation at all. Typically of the Dame though, in the midst of all this madness he created a masterpiece, and arguably his greatest album of all. With a hint of the funk of influence of 'Young Americans', yet filtered through a glacial European sensibility, it's a genre-transcending tour-de-force of boundless scope and imperious swagger. Forty-one years on, this record still sounds like the future.

This live recording captures Bowie at the end of his Isolar II world tour, wrapping things up at the NHK Hall in Tokyo in mid-December with a set bursting with classics from some of his most iconic records. Backed by the mighty Adrian Bellew on guitar, George Murray on bass and Dennis Davis on drums, the set list for this album is a goldmine for fans of Bowie's Berlin period with Brian Eno. There are plenty of other classics to savour too, making this another essential document for completists of one of the all-time greatest musicians to ever walk this Earth.

Almost a decade of recovery and recording went into the album; this tidbit of outtakes and rarities from the album features everything from a collaboration with Steve Reich and James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) to a new version of 'I'd Rather Be High'.

Review: This one is for the hardcore fans - a limited edition transparent red 7" featuring a version of 'Let Me Sleep Beside You' that was first recorded on the 1st of September 1967 at Advision Studios. It's just over three minutes of Bowie bliss. On the reverse is another tune recorded in the same special sessions, 'Karma Man.' It is said that Bowie was dead broke when he wrote the album before the one these appeared on after it had flopped and so these are "bald attempts to ape the success of the Stones' 'Let's Spend the Night Together.'"

Review: Tin Machine II is the second and final studio album by Tin Machine. It was rebased in 1991 by Victory Music and marked the last time Bowie fronted and toured with the band. After this he focused on his solo career but the album quietly, in the background, continued to pick up fans, praise and an increasing reputation. It's often cited as one of the best lost albums of the last millennium and is packed with strong tracks that power along on big, angular guitars with Bowie's vocals soaring up top. This is the first time the record has been on vinyl since its initial rase and comes on limited edition coloured wax.

David Bowie & Morrissey - "Cosmic Dancer" (live) (3:48)
Morrissey - "That's Entertainment" (3:19)
Review: A live curio from the brief time that Bowie and Morrissey toured together that sees the two legends joining forces for a cover of T-Rex's 'Cosmic Dancer'. It's a fairly sparse arrangement, mainly dominated in musical terms by Boz Boorer's jangling acoustic tones, but obviously that does leave plenty of room for two of the most recognisable voices in the business to work their magic. A slick studio take of the Moz tackling The Jam's 'That's Entertainment' inhabits the flip side of what is surely a 7" to get diehards fans salivating.

Review: To mark a sombre five years since the world lost music genius David Bowie, this new compilation has been put together by a journalist from Jazz Magazine. On it he has selected some of contemporary jazz scene's best talents to pay tribute to the legendary artist with a selection of new and original tunes. The mood is gentle and soothing throughout with names like Keren Ann, The Puppini Sisters, Mike Garson, Bojan Z, Delta Saxophone Quartet Jen Chapen and Rosetta Trio, Caecilie Norby, Franck Wolf, Yelloworld and Eric Le Lann all contributing.

Review: To mark a half century since its initial release, Parlophone has decided to offer-up a new anniversary version of David Bowie's 1970 album The Man Who Sold The World, reissuing it under the Thin White Duke's original intended title, Metrobolist. As Bowie fans will tell you, it's a significant album for a number of reasons, not least because it was arguably his first classic set. It marked the first time he worked with guitarist Mick Ronson, for example, and was produced by the man who would go on to sit behind the studio desk on most of Bowie's best albums, Tony Visconti. The latter has remixed and remastered all bar one track for this reissue, giving new life and vibrancy to an already excellent album.

Review: In October 1996, Neil and Pegi Young's Bridge School Benefit concert series was 10 years old and to make the occasion there was a super star studded line up. Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Pearl Jam, Billy Idol, Patti Smith, Pete Townshend, Bonnie Raitt and Cowboy Junkies all played, as did a certain David Bowie. They all played acoustic sets taken from the David Bowie back catalogue and an impromptu version of the Coasters' 'I'm A Hog For You Baby' also feature to a great reception. For the first time ever this is now all featured on vinyl.

Review: Bowie headed out on the worldwide Glass Spider in support of his album Never Let Me Down in May 1987, joined by legendary guitarist Peter Frampton. He show was ambitious even by his own high standards, with theatrical overtones and choreography based around its theme of 'Rock stars vs Reality' and although it was criticised at the time as overblown and pretentious, it's since become recognised as influential. With a mix of current and classic tunes, this album catches Bowie In full concert flow.

Review: Limited yellow LP edition of the starman's famed concert appearance at the Convention Center Arena in Dallas, 1978, as part of his 'Isolar II' tour. Following a digipak-only release in 2019, it deserves the gatefold: a famous YouTube clip captures the performance in lo-fi quality - with bowie donning a casual green tee and spangly silver trousers - but this version is restored straight from the engineer's unclipped soundboard, bringing you a perfectly sync-uppable version in all its high-quality glory.

Review: 1995 saw the unlikely pairing of David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails playing together in a live setting, as part of the latter's 'Self Destruct Touring Cycle' - this arm being the Dissonance tour. Bowie was celebrating his then-latest album 'Outside', while NIN were still reeling from the roaring fallout success of 'The Downward Spiral'. This new 180-gram LP version consists of a picture disc with fitting spiky red lettering, straddling the typographic connotations of both Ziggy Stardust and Trent Rezor. The recordings themselves are remastered and greatly-enhanced versions of the original KLLT-FM and Syndicated radio broadcasts, documenting two live appearances at the Riverport (MO) and Shoreline (CA) Amphitheatres. Be sure not to skimp on timeless restylings of 'Hallo Spaceboy' and 'Hurt', each artist lending strange charisma to each other's masterworks.

Review: Never mind 100-strong limited white copies of 'Blackstar'. Here's live gem for all the Bowie collectors hell-bent on documenting the extent of this stardust-trailing rock visionary's career. 'Live In Rio 1990' documents Bowie's live show at Praca da Apoteose, Rio de Janeiro, on 20th September 1990. Part of the seven month 'Sound + Vision' tour, this grainy moment in time captures Bowie towards the end of an extensive back-and-forth journey across the Atlantic. Colossal hits like 'Space Oddity', 'Sound And Vision' and 'Fame' neatly frame the lulling period before his next major album, 1993's 'Black Tie White Noise'.

Review: Through the many dimensions of his stellar career, David Bowie left a sprawling trail of broadcast performances which often offered unique insights into some of his most cherished songs. Laser Media have gathered together some of the finest examples of these radio broadcast performances for this lavishly presented box set. Given the focus on the 70s and 80s and the fact they still manage to fill out six CDs, you get some notion of the scale of the musical icon's incomparable archives. Classics like 'Rebel Rebel, 'China Girl' and 'Changes' are all present at least once, but here you get unique versions distinct from the evergreen studio takes embedded in our collective memory.

Review: In 1977, two kings of pop went head to head, appearing simultaneously in Cleveland, Ohio at both their Dinah Shore Show and Agora Ballroom shows respectively. Being made up entirely of Iggy's songs, this album's earlier incarnations appeared under various names - including 'Sister Midnight', 'Raw Power' and 'Suck On This!' - and were naturally credited to Iggy Pop only. Now, Reel To Reel name the Bowie version properly, and deliver it on both vinyl and cassette. Bowie's extra rock n' roll harmonies and duetting flair know no bounds here, bringing out Pop's voice in an extra-thunderous wall of sound.

Review: There have been many 'Tribe Records'-es over the years, but perhaps none were so eminent than the one that existed in '70s Detroit, which gave rise to the release of Harold McKinney's debut album here. On 'Voices And Rhythms Of The Creative Profile', the famous jazz pianist lended a new character to the term 'spiritual jazz', bringing energy and flair - and lots and lots of instrumentation - to the fore, rather than mere sentiment and emotion. This reissue, featuring heavenly gems like 'In The Moog', also features a booklet telling the story of the label from the ground up.

Yet to offset the justified grief and mourning at the most otherworldly and mercurial of all musical icons departing our realm, he's left us with one of his greatest albums to date and certainly his best in a full quarter century - one that returns him spiritually to the dizzying collision of bracing experimentation and melodious drama that typified the so-called Berlin trilogy of the '70s yet transplants that ambience to a new more complicated age. Jazzy inflections, electronic filigree and stark soundscapes collide elegantly amidst that stentorian voice, and whether or not Bowie put this together as a farewell, he couldn't have done it better if he'd tried. We'll truly never see his like again, alas.

Notes: "One day I blew my nose and half my brains came out." Los Angeles, 1976. David Bowie is holed up in his Bel-Air mansion, drifting into drug-induced paranoia and confusion. Obsessed with black magic and the Holy Grail, he's built an altar in the living room and keeps his fingernail clippings in the fridge. There are occasional trips out to visit his friend Iggy Pop in a mental institution. His latest album is the cocaine-fuelled Station To Station (Bowie: "I know it was recorded in LA because I read it was"), which welds R&B rhythms to lyrics that mix the occult with a yearning for Europe, after three mad years in the New World. Bowie has long been haunted by the angst-ridden, emotional work of the Die Brucke movement and the Expressionists. Berlin is their spiritual home, and after a chaotic world tour, Bowie adopts this city as his new sanctuary. Immediately he sets to work on Low, his own expressionist mood-piece.

Documentary about English guitarist & songwriter Mick Ronson
Notes: From Emperor Media Ltd. and acclaimed producer/director Jon Brewer, music icon David Bowie narrates this unprecedented celebration of the life and works of guitar virtuoso Mick Ronson - a rock hero virtually unknown despite his direct contribution and involvement in countless compositions, lyrics and recordings that changed the face of music forever.

His humble beginnings in Hull, England underpinned the values and modest, unpretentious personality of Mick Ronson, who worked with the city's council while he pursued his craft with consummate dedication. Soon word of his talent reached David Bowie, who grabbed at the chance to work with Ronson, in what would become a career-long association, alongside collaborations with other greats such as Bob Dylan, Ian Hunter, Lulu and Lou Reed.
The Man Who Sold the World, Aladdin Sane, Hunky Dory, The Jean Genie - all were constructed with Ronson on guitar.

Sadly in 1993, while working on a solo album, Ronson passed away before receiving the recognition he so richly deserved or before taking that final bow. Now, with unprecedented access to archival backstage footage - never before released - and iconic imagery from superstar photographer Mick Rock, this fascinating and at times controversial special reveals the ultimate authentic chronicle of the career of a cornerstone of rock.

Bonus interview footage from Angie Bowie, Rick Wakeman, Glen Matlock, Cherry Vanilla, Ian Hunter, David Stopps and more!

Review: In the wake of his untimely passing, it can be hard to work out which of his many eras and personae to indulge in, yet this essential document of radio sessions and fascinating live material covers one of the most exciting - that era in which this almost objectionably talented ingenue was first marking out his pathway to stardom - from the swinging '60s mockney strains of his earliest hits, through the heavy vibes of the Man Who Sold The World period, the elemental whimsy of 'Hunky Dory' and the world-conquering Ziggy Stardust, this is a fascinating travelogue of four years in which Bowie took enough artistic chances to last a lesser artist four careers, and almost all of them paid off. Watch out for a charming cameo from John Peel here also.

Review: During the U.S leg of his 1995 Outside tour, David Bowie was supported by Nine Inch Nails. Trent Reznor and company not only opened the shows, but also joined forces with the legendary musican on joint performances of some of his songs. Now, some 24 years later, a recording of one of these legendary collaborative performances has finally been released. It's hugely evocative and atmospheric, with many of Bowie's great songs - particularly "Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)", "Hallo Spaceboy", "The Heart's Filthy Lesson", "The Man Who Sold The World" and "Under Pressure" - benefitting from Nine Inch Nails' low-end grunt and razor-sharp guitars.

Review: In 1997, to celebrate David Bowie's 50th birthday, the Thin White Duke was granted a BBC Radio special. It featured nine new versions of some of his favourite songs, all of which were recorded during the rehearsals for a celebratory show in New in late 1996. Happily, these recordings have now been made available for the very first time via ChangesNowBowie, a kind of alternative greatest hits collection. Much of the material is stripped-back and pared down, with Bowie delivering either lo-fi rock revisions (see 'Repetition' and the rip-roaring 'White Light/White Heat'), semi-acoustic translations ('Shopping For Girls', 'Aladdin Sane' and 'The Man Who Sold The World') or slightly orchestrated interpretations ('Quicksand'). It's Bowie as you've never heard him before, and that's got to be a good thing.

Review: While David Bowie's talents were many, it was his skills as a musician, a composer and a performer which were, and indeed remain, the most celebrated of the great man's gifts. But Bowie was a self-taught intellectual too, a thinker of unparalleled originality and, quite probably, the best-read rock star of all time. He was also a talented speaker, an enormously absorbing conversationalist and someone you just know you could have had a damn good chat with, if only the opportunity had arisen. When these faculties are combined, as they are throughout the recordings here, some of the most stimulating archive film available on the boy from Beckenham is revealed. This double DVD set concentrates on David Bowie's spoken word video recordings, collating as it does more than 3 hours of the Thin White Duke in interview, in conversation, in conference and when simply having a bit of a natter! Intriguing and enthralling throughout, this set features both classic and rare footage, which all at once make it a must-have compilation for Bowie fans the world across.

Review: In early 1968 David Bowie enrolled in actor, teacher and choreographer Lindsay Kemp s dance class at the London Dance Centre. Bowie later claimed it was during this tenure that his interest in image really blossomed. Studying the dramatic arts under Kemp, Bowie became immersed in the creation of personae to present to the world.

In July 69 he had his first hit single with Space Oddity, and his second, self-titled album was released in November. A year on came The Man Who Sold The World, and Hunky Dory followed in December 1971. Three months later, in February 1972, came the launch of the Ziggy Stardust Tour, at the Toby Jug in Tolworth, Surrey, and the rest, as they say, is history. But in less than three years of intense activity, Bowie had gone from being a glorified song-and-dance-man with a penchant for the tunes of early 60s comedy crooner Anthony Newley to becoming the most flamboyant, creative and dynamic rock star on the planet.

This film uncovers the full story of these years and by tracing events from even further back, when David was still named Jones and a member of any number of UK Beat groups, to the release of The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars in June 72, it reveals one of the most fascinating pre-fame periods in the history of contemporary music.

With the use of rare and seldom-seen archive film, exclusive interviews, contributions from his closest confidantes and comment from the most knowledgeable writers and music historians, this film is the best document yet to emerge on the early years of David Bowie and is destined to become the standard work on the subject.

Review: A year on from the untimely demise of arguably the most influential British musician of the last fifty years, and on the eve of what would have been his seventieth birthday, here we have the opportunity to view his whole jaw-dropping career across the course of two slabs of wax. From the cosmic dread of 'Space Oddity' all the way to the reflective melancholy of 'I Can't Give Everything Away', it's a magnificent testimony to a restless muse that never stopped moving into unchartered territory in search of new adventure. These songs will outlive us all.
