This special 7" boxset Motown State of Mind is a collection of Motown classics remixed by the legendary rapper, producer and member of D.I.T.C., Lord Finesse. The first two tracks tackle the one time King of Pop, while the undisputed soul god that is Marvin Gaye then gets some special treatment with an Underboss remix of "I Want You." The smooth grooves continue on DeBarge's "I Like It" (Soul Synopsis mix), which is pure sultry and steamy gold. Elsewhere Eddie Kendricks - "Body Talk" (TBG mix) is a string laced and slow motion disco funk gem and Sister of Love and Jackson 5 also get some careful treatment.

Review: You can easily understand why Yello could rue the day they finished the seminal track 'Oh Yeah'. A bumbling and eccentric synth pop workout that almost sounds like someone got their first Casio keyboard and started playing something with all the weird and wonderful noises stored in its limited memory banks, while the track itself should have been destined for obscurity successive Hollywood movies of the 1980s had different ideas.
Hence the tune is etched into the common conscious. What many people don't realise, though, is how much of a flash in the pan Yello weren't, and how that track is just one moment in a relentlessly adventurous 40 year career. Hence this collection looking to showcase everything else that happened. Some of which, perhaps surprisingly, could be seen as paving the way for the likes of Alabama 3. Review: New albums from Aussie fusionists the Avalanches don't come around that often, so the appearance of We Will Always Love you four years after its predecessor, Wildflower, is genuinely big news (it previously took them 16 years to record the follow-up to their acclaimed 2000 debut, Since I Left You). Somewhat predictably, they've hit the mark once more, supplementing their usual dense sample collages and multi-coloured, genre-bending compositions (a little psychedelia, Balearica and synth-pop here, a dash of dream pop, future R&B and synth-pop there) with vocals and musical contributions from a dizzying cast-list of like-minded guests (think Neneh Cherry, Johnny Marr, Jamie XX, Blood Orange, Tricky, Cornelius and Kelly Moran). Hard to pin down but royally entertaining from start to finish, We Will Always Love You is a triumph.

Review: Much has changed for Kelis since the release of her debut album "Kaleidoscope" 20 years ago - see her albums on Ninja Tune and a surprise recent appearance on bizarre variety show "The Masked Singer" - but the album itself remains a turn-of-the-millennium classic. Here reissued in expanded form to celebrate its 20th birthday, the Neptunes-produced set sparkles just as much as it did way back in 2000. For proof, check the still-familiar, acoustic guitar-sporting bump of "Caught out There" (complete with famous "I hate you so much right now" refrain"), the R&B perfection of "Get Along With You" and the dancefloor-friendly disco-pop of "Good Stuff".

Review: The second studio album from Yello was added to the pantheons of weirdo electronic pop some time ago. In fact, some 31 years ago to be exact. While not by any stretch the outfit's most famous effort, that belongs to fourth album, Stella, and in particular the 1980s movie anthem 'Oh Yeah', in many ways that track doesn't encapsulate the spirit of the band anything like the tunes here.
At times low slung ('Ballet Mecanique') and occupying a space somewhere between roots and fairground, in other moments tragically epic and approaching New Romanticism ('Quad El Habib'), while the music itself is wildly varied and unarguably original, the overall magic is still found in how much fun it sounds like they were having, and how much fun we have hearing it.

Review: Considered not only one of his finest albums but also one of pop music's landmark recordings, Marvin Gaye's 1971 LP What's Goin' On received a reissue in a Deluxe Edition (half speed remastered) in 2011 with 28 additional tracks. It of course contains the well known title track, the follow-up single, "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)" plus the third and final single "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)". In its entirety, it is an incredibly touching album, telling the story of a war veteran (inspired by his own brother Frankie) returning home to the country he fought for and sadly having to bare witness to a world of prejudice, poverty, drug abuse and police brutality. Songs were co-written by legends Al Cleveland and Obie Benson and recorded in Detroit at Motown's Hitsville, Golden World and United Sound Studios.
