Review: Martinelli - presumably not the Brazilian one who plays in the midst of Arsenal's attack - has his classic disco gem 'Cenerentola (Cinderella)' reissued here by ZYX, a label that is well known and revered for doing just that. First up is served as an extended vocal mix that places the sentimental vocals front and centre with the sleazy sax lines also shine bight. Following the more direct Italo disco workout that is the instrumental comes a remix of the vocal that has a much more bright, tropical and steamy hot feel perfect for summer sessions and then last of all a remix of the instrumental that might be the perfect balance of everything.

Review: XYZ come through with another crucial reissue of a much love Italo classic that is high in drama and packed with 80s charm. It came first in 1987 and represents the biggest tune Roy ever put out - not hard to see why when you hear it withe r- the big camp vocal, the cold and snappy drum machines sounds and dazzling synth arps all elevate mind and body. This version comes with, as ever, a Flemming Dalum that adds some extra melodic brightness, and a DJ TinTin remix that smooths things out and adds some extra warming reverb.

Review: ZYX Germany digs into the archives of Italo disco here for a reissue on lovely translucent blue wax of Samoa Park's 'Tubular Affair' which the heads will know is a bit of a rare gem from 1983. It's built around a soaring female vocal that brings an angelic edge to the far-sighted 80s chords and cold, crashing machine drum sounds. As often is the way with this label, this mighty original comes with Flemming Dalum remixes that bulk it up for modern dancefloors with a chugging and irresistible sense of ALFOS funk and then ups the synth energy on a more poppy version to close.

Review: Dark Entries are masters of reissuing the tunes that are out of the financial reach of many of us. This timeless and utterly singular slice of Italo disco magic was bootlegged originally back in around 2015 and then the label decided to reissue it properly in 2016, with a remastered set of tunes for maximum playback effect. They now issue a special 40th-anniversary version. The 1982 bombshell, originally out on Discomagic Records, goes by the name of 'The Man From Colours' and it is a special track indeed, one that's full of romantic charm, mystery and plenty of proto-house vibes. Its vocals will be embedded in your mind forever upon first listen, and you get an instrumental cut on the flip, too.

Review: San Francisco's Dark Entries label does a good line in reissuing obscure, long-forgotten, left-of-centre gems (their excellent collection of Patrick Cowley's little-known soundtrack work for gay porn films, School Daze, was arguably one of the compilations of 2013). Here, they've unearthed another overlooked gem - Art Fine's previously rare-as-hen's-teeth dark Italo-disco gem 'Dark Silence'. It's pretty much a straight copy of the New Wave-inclined original, with the sparser, looser 'Long Version' joining the dense 'Art Fine Version'.

Review: Assault on Precinct 13 is a 1976 action thriller written, directed, scored, and edited by the one and only John Carpenter. Here the iconic main theme is presented on a special new 12" with a John Anthony Scratch mix. That goes first and layers in a motorik kick beneath the signature sci-fi chords. It's a real heater with some added scratches which are sort of weirdly out of place but brilliant. A second, only slightly different remix is also included, making this a perfect slab for those wanting to being a little sci-fi mystique to their sets.

Review: Mark Tower (real name Marco Silingardi) started DJing in 1973 while in secondary school. In the late '70s, he started his career as a professional DJ, attending various discos in northern Italy between 1982 - 1985 when he quit the DJ scene. He is regarded as a legend for his techniques behind the decks, incorporating reel-to-reel techniques which were quite innovative for the time. His first release 'You Aren't Fall In Love' was released on Discomagic back in 1983, and is reissued here on Felmming Dalum's ZYX Music. The glimmering neon-lit Italo disco of the original comes in both the original vocal and instrumental versions, as well as remixes by Dalum, Longdrink and Victor Ark - the latter's roaring rendition being our pick of the bunch.

Review: Italian singer Elena Ferretti was popular on the Italo and Eurobeat scene between the early '80s, produced by the likes of Giacomo Maiolini, Mauro Farina, Sergio Dall'Ora and Giancarlo Pasquini. One of her best known hits is the song "My World" (as Sophie). Here we have a reissue of Feretti's highly valued Italo classic (to those who know) in the form of "Witch" under the Helen alias - with which she used for half a dozen or so tracks in her career. A typically neon-lit Italo disco anthem of the timeless variety, with additional remixes by Centre Neptune chief Flemming Dalum and mad Aussie Hysteric - both of them giving the track a nice reshape for modern dancefloors.

Review: Zon Records has released music digitally before, though this is the first time the wilfully eclectic Belgian label - and the producers behind the label, also called Zon - has made it onto wax. As vinyl debuts go, it's pretty good. They set their stall out with title track 'Keys For Days', a warming and sun-splashed slab of tech-tinged deep house peppered with warming chords, jazzy synth-bass and subtle TB-303 motifs, before diving into deeper, more immersive territory on the gorgeous, sunrise-ready 'Spring Break' (featuring vocalisations from Lotte Sarembe). Over on the reverse, 'Upon Us' is an analogue-rich chunk of deep tech-house, while Ukrainian producer Kirik's remix of the same track is a far more bass-heavy, tactile and otherworldly affair.

Review: Zodiak Commune reaches right back into the early days of the Dutch acid techno and electro scene, and it remains an essential outlet for tough and gnarly rave gear for darkened souls. This new record is a split between Umwelt and Serge Geyzel, continuing a series of split discs pitting serious underground operators against each other. Umwelt's side kicks off with the blistering acid electro of 'The Wake Of The Anthropocene' and follows up with heavy but melodic pearler 'Cosmic Dancer'. Geyzel's 'Off The Ground' is a nervy slice of acid with sad-hearted undertones, and 'Hostage' completes the set with a moody, percussive throwdown.

Review: Only 100 copies of this mystical and deeply moody 12" from Zimp Recordings main man Filthy Rich, meaning you'll have to act fast if you want one. It's well worth picking up though, not least because opener 'The Kraken (Davy Jones Mix)' is a deliciously clandestine chunk of underwater techno full of nightmare-inducing spoken word vocals and creepy electronics. The EP's other significant moment is 'Two Tone Bass', a stomping slab of fuzz-soaked industrial techno that remixer Randolph also turns into a slamming, lo-fi techno assault on the senses. Elsewhere, 'Wiff Waff (Wallpaper Mix)' is a bouncy techno roller that (somewhat hilariously) samples speeches by Alexander Boris De Pfeffel Johnson, and 'Stinky Funk' is a thrusting masterclass in weighty techno-funk.

Review: Filth Rich gets suitably filthy on this fresh outing on Zimp. His Rave EP collides many different influences from techno to electro, acid to rave, and also chucks in some classic samples to really make the tunes pop. The first is a peak-time breakbeat bruiser with slapping hits and yelping vocals, then 'Hippies Gathering' is a prog techno classic from the late 90s Castle Morten rave scene. Review: French electro botherer Kafkactrl came up over the past couple of years with releases on Vortex Traks, and now they've been snapped up by Kluentah's Zement label which means rubbing shoulders with the likes of LTF and Chupacabras. Review: M Parent's penchant for texture is laid bare on this searing and arresting new EP for Zement. It opens with 'Gravel Pit' which sounds like an audio diary from a car-wrecking plant. Twisted metal, fizzing battery acid, and crushed glass all feature over a distorted baseline and broken rhythm. Those same scuzzy sounds define the rest of the EP from the acid-laced 'Ideal Future' to the coruscated funk of 'Acid Thirst' via the caustic intensity of closer Climb These Walls'. Review: Z Records' ongoing 'Attack The Dancefloor 'series of compilation style vinyl EPs has long been a reliable source of disco-fired excellence, and this 21st edition is another high-quality affair. We're first treated to a superb Jimpster revision of recent Mistura single 'Want Me Back', where Jemini's spoken word vocal, jazzy keys and spacey synth sounds rise above loose-limbed deep house beats and wiggly TB-303 lines, before Birdee drops a genuinely joyous, organic-sounding disco-house take on 1991 classic 'Do What You Feel' (now credited to Joey Montenegro, rather than his now retired Joey Negro alias). Elsewhere, Lee's own rework of Lakeshore Commission's Bluey collaboration 'In The Light' is a smooth, soulful, string-drenched delight and the veteran producer's 'Destination Boogie' tweak of Destiny II's 'Play To Win' is a revivalist '80s electrofunk delight.

Detroit badman Andres then does what he does best to 'I Recognise', that is layering in hip hop slanted beats and nice rolling baselines under lush chords. Review: In its full digital form, Z Records' excellent Life's Better With Disco Comp is an epic 37 tracks deep. Naturally there aren't that many cuts on this sampler 12", but the four on show are undoubtedly amongst the set's many highlights. Boss man Dave Lee kicks things off via a superb classic disco-meets-nu-disco revision of Firefly's 'Love Is Gunna Be On Your Side', before there's a chance to cop an obscure Backroom Productions rework of their early proto-house/garage-house gem (as Ruffneck), 'The Power - The Rhythm'. The mid-'80s fun continues on Larry Levan's vintage remix of Jonny Dynell's 'Rhythm of Love' - a killer fusion of dubbed-out synths and drums and Konk style Latin percussion - while Doug Willis' 'Doug's Disco Theme' is a classic disco-house number from Lee under one of his many alternative aliases.

Review: Sean McCabe's work has formed a solid backbone for Dave Lee's Z Records in the last couple of years. He has a fresh disco style that pairs the old with the new in essential ways. For this new 12" he teases his new album with a sampler of four reworks and remixes. His take on 'Now What' is deep and glossy, then he takes The Blackbyrds' 'Mysterious Vibes' in a slick and soulful deep house direction complete with standout lead sax. The deep house mood continues on the 'Timeline' remix chi has late night keys and exudes real warmth. Last of all is a fantastic broken beat workout that is lush and jazzy.

Kicking things off in fantastic fashion is a slap bass and wah clav powered take on Raven Maize's 'Forever Together', originally released in1989, this was the first house cut to feature the now iconic keys riff. Dave's Heavenly Star mix of 'One Kiss' (first out in 1991) is pure hip-swinging soulful disco. Joey Montenegro (who could that be?) offers two classic cuts on the flip side. 'Make A Move On Me' (Original Disco mix) sees the crossover hit from 2005 get a Chic like makeover with its zippy leads and timeless diva vocals. Review: YYK no label is a sub label of yoyaku that has been turning out left of centre electronic sounds for the last four years. Pochtrone is a mysterious new artists who has taken care of three consecutive releases on the label all in quick succession. He draws on minimal, techno and tech house for his inspiration but comes up with something that sounds like none of them. Opener 'Pantin' is a tense and involving affair that has hurried bass which seems to almost fall over itself while alien effects and vocals fight to cut free from the tight groove. On the flip is the epic 10-minute-plus 'Tingle,' with its bulbous bass and skittish percussion constantly on the move, trying your mind in knots and keeping your feet busy.

Review: Manuel Saharan is an Argentinian artist who has been deep in this scene for almost a quarter of a century. He remains pretty prolific and more importantly pretty inventive. He drops a steam stream of music and most of it sells out in quick time. For his latest outing he heads to Yung Dumb out of Canada and cooks up more twisted takes on house and techno. There are acid gurglings underpinning the opener then a Fred Everything remix strips things back to dubby drums and rubbery 303s. Things get melodic and reflective on 'Mellow' and then 'No More' is a gorgeous synth piece that is full of heartache and forlornness.

Review: Strap in for more rickety breakbeat workouts here from Imaginary Number on a limited edition heavyweight white label. Opener 'Push' is crunchy as you like with raw drum work and frayed edges to the synths. 'Grv' pairs a lively breakbeat drum loop with bleeping synths and the sort of pent up late night energy that gets any floor going. 'Somebody' is a more macho and texture techno wobbler built on ramshackle drums with wild vocals and last of all is another physical and prickly drum workout 'Fools' that is pure heat, especially with the pitched up and snatched vocal that cuts in.

Review: Following fine recent outings on Kaoz Theory and Constant Sound, Chris Stussy (real name Niels Steenbergen) brings his trademark brand of tech-house/deep house fusion to popular Parisian imprint yoyaku for the very first time. He starts cheerily and colourfully with 'Fessor of Dabz', a sonically inviting fusion of bouncy synth sounds, vibrant melodies, bubbly bass and snappy drums, before opting for a more turn-of-the-millennium UK tech-house sound (think Circulation and you're close) on 'Questions of Today'. Review: Given the critical reception rightly afforded to Tahliah Barnett's superb debut album as FKA Twigs, it makes perfect sense for Young Turks to rustle up a swift reissue of FKA Twigs, the four track 12" that announced her to the pop music world last year. This EP was the first instance of Barnett's ethereal vocals weaved in amidst production work from Arca that was at times floating, others crushingly pressurised. Naturally the effects of the music are heightened when combined with Jesse Kanda's mind bending videos ("Water Me" especially) but late comers to the magic of Twigs will be all over this. Do check "Papi Pacify" as Arca is on some "Cry Me A River" era Timbalaand tip.

Review: The latest single from Jamie Smith's 2015 album In Colour, featuring The xx bandmate Romy Madley Croft, gets the remix treatment from a pretty stellar cast. Starting off, Hivern Discs boss John Talabot gets on board with his "Loud Synths Reconstruction" which definitely lives up to its name on this driving proggy take on the track. Ed Russell aka West Country bass techno auteur Tessela steps up and delivers a typically thumping and funked up rendition which is a real highlight on here. On the flip, Cologne's Barnt delivers yet another dark journey through the cosmic hole and the legendary Matthew Herbert offers us his take; sublime deep house and yet again; sampling everything but the kitchen sink!

Review: Just when you think you've heard the last of Covid in music, along comes this Covid 2020 EP from Yotsume Music label head Saki Hiroaki, indicating that it was written during those most weird and dark times, specifically in the city of Kurashiki. 'I Say' (part 2) is a seriously silky deep house with wispy and liquid chords rippling out to an infinite horizon as the persuasive drums get you into the groove. 'Improvisation' is a more crisp tech cut but is still unhurried and detailed with nice deft synth curlicues and the trio of escapist gems is completed with 'TRAP'. This one again sinks you into a pillowy and gentle groove with muted chords drifting up top like clouds.

Review: The seventh release of Sasaki Hiroaki's Yotsume-Music sees Hisashi Ito aka Hulot (Raum...musik, BELOW, FROGMAN/U.S.B.) welcomed to the fray, quite possible, given the EP's title, taking influences from Mr Hulot, the hero of Jacques Tati classic film 1953 'Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot'. Like said hero, there's a kooky, loveable eccentricity to his two productions - he counts Herbert and Moritz von Oswald among his main influences - with Tom Ellis Remix and Sasaki Hiroaki Remix adding a remix, one on either each side.

Review: "Dubb Me Some'tin Fresh" first appeared on wax way back in 2001, as part of Halo, Hipp-E and Tony's first outing for YoshiToshi under the 6400 Crew alias. It remains one of their strongest cuts; a dark, sweaty and trippy fusion of tribal drums, acid bass and dub-house sensibilities. This reissue contains the freshly re-mastered original version, plus a trio of tasty new reworks. Deep Dish man Sharam steps up first, emphasizing the dub-influenced elements on a big room version that strips back the original's dense tribal drums without sacrificing any energy. In contrast, Sinisa Tamamovic's remix is loose and more tribal-minded, while Hector opts for more acid lines and heavier sub-bass on his big room-friendly interpretation.

Unique handmade red paint bicycle wheels patterns on the front record sleeve - Each a unique individual piece, sleeve backside handstamped, vinyl comes as transparent light rose transparent coloured vinyl. Music-wise, both the original version of "Bicycle Love" and the two accompanying remixes from Brad P and Damon Lamar slot neatly into the Yore aesthetic - indeed Vaz is on wonderfully sweet and Detroit influenced form here!

Review: We have absolutely no idea who's behind this hand-stamped 12" - all involved are keeping tight-lipped - but you should certainly give the clips a listen if celebratory disco-house is your thing. It's a brilliantly bumpin' affair that adds a plethora of classic disco vocal samples to a surging disco, bass-heavy disco-house groove rich in savagely edited orchestral sweeps borrowed from another Salsoul-era gem. It's the kind of in-your-face, arms-aloft affair that sounds like it could have been crafted in the halcyon days of disco-house (the 'French Touch' era) in the mid-to-late 1990s. It's available in radio edit and 'club cut' forms, with the latter offering just that little bit more celebratory goodness.

Review: New and exciting Los Angeles label YKW returns with a second release, this time from Montreal's Ohm Hourani who is well known in hardcore circles for his superb jazzy and minimal stylings. He offers one particularly standout track, 'Herbs Miles,' which mixes up a sample of Herbie Hancock discussing the legendary Miles Davis. His own live-recorded and processed trumpet layers in another soulful edge and makes it a brilliantly original jam. G76/Gojnea76 delivers a weird and wonky remix and then 'Down the Syncussion Hole' is another inventive and rather madcap sound from this studio wizard.

Review: House legend Fred P is on a roll, with this being the second of his latest releases to fly through our floodgates this week alone. This time, however, he leases his wax space out to two fresh-faced mates: Specter and Jose Rico, who occupy the B-side and nearly snatch his crown with the wonky dub-house stepper 'You Don't Believe'. P's own track 'Inspired By Dopeness' is a climactic and tense house opus, blending funky and international influences into its mix; but it's really the night-and-day contrast between the two tracks here that make this release here on Yellow Jackets shine.
