Upgraded memory performance offers an increase from 1.45 minutes to 2.9 minutes of record time.

If you are using Splices that are over 1 minute long the SLIDE parameter will be scanning across a massive amount of material and therefore the longer the Splice the longer it will take to get to where you are Sliding toward. Imagine a tape machine shuttling forward or backward to get to your desired destination. No we cannot change this, the MG is scanning as fast as possible. This new double record time firmware will make this even more of a factor.

Read and Write times will be MUCH longer when you have a Full 2.9 minute reel. So for example, if you decided to erase a 5 second Splice in the middle of a 2.9 minute reel it will take twice as long as before because the MG must re-write the entire 2.9 minute reel. Of course all of this is happening in the background and should not cause too much hassle. Still when that SHIFT button is flashing it is best to not perform more SD Card actions.

For most granular processing Splices of 10 seconds or less are recommended.

So why even bother increasing record time to 2.9 minutes? Well it allows for storing even more Splices on a Reel and it also makes it possible to record long portions of a patch for later arranging within your DAW. You could potentially capture a patch, including modulations of a shorter Splice (say 10 seconds), retrieve the sound from the SD Card and compile into a larger work using your DAW.

All of the functions and features of the popular SP-404SX are contained in the SP-404A, including its distinctive 16-bit linear sampling, 29 onboard DSP effects, smooth FX switching, and 12 professional performance pads. Plus, a new library of sounds curated by sample-industry leader Loopmasters are provided via the included SD card.

Whether used standalone or controlled by the TR-8, the SP-404A makes for an intuitive and inspiring addition to the AIRA range of performance instruments for DJs, musicians, and producers.

TR Sequencer Meets SP-Style Sampling:

The SP-404A can be triggered from the TR-8 Rhythm Performer for powerful, integrated beat and sample production. Simply connecting a MIDI cable between the two gives you the ability to incorporate samples from the SP-404A and use them in conjunction with your drum patterns. Each of the TR-8's 11 tracks can trigger a sample on the SP-404A, play a TR-8 sound, or both, enabling you to create interesting layers and accents. The TR-8 can trigger any sample from any of the multiple banks in the SP-404A, making it easy to access new sounds with a turn of the dial.

Sample Scatter and Side Chain:

By connecting the stereo output of the SP-404A to the TR-8's external audio input, you can use the TR-8 as a sub-mixer and processor for the sampler. In this configuration, all samples played on the SP-404A can be effected using the powerful TR-8 Scatter feature to reverse, glitch, gate, truncate, stutter, and perform all manner of rhythmic variations from subtle to extreme, and all in perfect sync. The use of the external input also allows samples to be effected by the TR-8's per-step Side Chain function-simply program a pattern with Side Chain in TR-REC Mode and access eight rhythmic ducking and gating effects.

Sounds by Loopmasters:

The SP-404A comes with nine banks of premium samples to get you started with sample looping. The sound library on the included SD card was created by Loopmasters, one of the world's leading sample developers. The samples in the library have been designed specifically to complement the TR-8, but will work great in standalone applications.

Instant Sampling:

Sampling is not limited to the studio with the SP-404A. The built-in microphone allows for simple recording anytime and anywhere inspiration may strike, powered by AC or six AA batteries. Line inputs enable direct sampling from a mixer or external device, and a mic input is also available for sampling with an external microphone. And your sampled material always sounds great, thanks to the SP-404A's high-quality, uncompressed WAV audio-capture format.

Hands-On Performance:

With its interactive loop and pattern sequencer controls, the SP-404A is made to be played. Take command with three non-slip control knobs and 12 rubber trigger pads, plus a Sub Pad for rapid-repeat triggering in real time. On dark stages or DJ booths, the SP-404A is an ideal live machine, as the clearly illuminated pads and bright LED screen ensure clear visibility as soon as you power on.

Extreme Effects:

Your signature sounds can be sculpted at any time via the SP-404A's 29 onboard DSP effects. The multiclock solves your sync issues in the studio and on stage once and for all.
Synchronisation of the multiclock to a DAW relies on a sample accurate audio clock stream, which in consequence guarantees absolutely tight clock signals with i1 sample of jitter.
Moreover, you can use it as a standalone generator or hook it up to follow other MIDI, DIN or analog master clocks.

Shift & Shuffle:
To compensate for any time lag of connected gear, you can shift each output channel individually and in realtime back and forth relative to the master clock.
The shift range is completely configurable and has a maximum of i400ms, the resolution is 20us.
If you have set your machines up to be on the spot, start playing with shuffle. Again, individually for each channel and in realtime.

Midi, Din, Modular & LFO:
Each channel can be set to either emit MIDI Clock, DIN sync (sync24) or analog clock.
Analog clock signals are configurable in polarity, start/reset behaviour and feature a flexible clock divider. An analog LFO is available with various waveforms and a range of 0-5V.

A gorgeous ring of colored lights displays the frequency of each filter, as well as the levels and current scale selection(s).

At a glance, the SMR works like a normal six-band graphic EQ: six frequency band-pass filters are mixed together using sliders. Resonance/Q is variable, which changes the "ringy-ness" or width of the bands.

But here's where comparison stops. The frequency of each channel is treated like a note in a scale, and the six bands form a chord. Spin the Rotate knob and the "notes" circle around the scale, rotating back to the bottom once they've reached the top. Adjust Spread and the distance (interval) between each note changes. Triggers for up/down motion, CV inputs for sequencing and scale selection allow for flexible control with external modules. Morph, which automatically cross-fades between frequencies, together with variable Slew allows rhythmic clocks drive the SMR as a variable-speed evolving resonant filter.

At maximum Resonance/Q, the SMR can be struck like a gong or marimba by inputting clocks or triggers. The frequency of each channel is quantized to a scale: beautiful chords, ethereal tones and eerie ambiance flows easily. With lower resonance, the SMR can pull out particular frequency bands, and sweep these across the spectrum.

Two 1V/octave Frequency jacks allow for tracking even and/or odd bands and creating floating melodies over evolving chord bases, or complex percussive membrane sounds.

Save your settings into one of six storage banks, and recall on the fly. On startup, the SMR instantly jumps to the last saved settings. The color scheme of the lights can be adjusted, so if you prefer all white lights on your modular, you can have that (or all red, or rainbows, pastels, etc..)!

Advanced features:
- Program your own scale. The frequency of each of the 20 notes can be assigned by setting the octave, the semi-tone, and coarse and fine micro-tone. Up to 11 scales can be saved permanently in the user bank
- Adjust color scheme of the LEDs. Pick a pre-programmed color scheme or create your own using the sliders to set Red/Green/Blue values. Custom color schemes can be saved permanently
- Save your settings in one of six parameter banks. Note position, scale and bank selection, Q value, Lock settings and color scheme can be saved and recalled on the fly. On startup, the SMR loads settings from the last saved bank.
- Optional alternative filter type for a more exponential decay when plucked and different timbral qualities. Freq jacks no longer track 1V/oct in this mode.
- Slider LEDs can be assigned to display level for each channel (combination of slider position and CV on the jack), or clipping for each channel.

Notes: Today's digital effects and plug-ins can create almost perfect room simulations. However, when it comes to characteristic and charismatic reverb, analogue effect-processors are yet to beat. The reverberating sound of a spring is so lively and unique that its sound is almost impossible to recreate in the digital domain. In addition to this, Retroverb Lancet is not just a spring reverberation system - it is an analogue multi-effects-processor. It offers overdrive, filtering, VCA, envelope and LFO to manipulate the spring sound and create different sounds like auto-wah, tremolo, distortion, delay, gater and of course reverb.

The typical spring reverb sound is generated by a Belton/Accutronics type 4 spring tank with 3 individual springs. It can be placed pre or post the VCF/VCA section and equalized by the Tone parameter.

The Crash function generates the popular thunder effect that occurs when kicking an amplifier with spring tank. You don't have to kick Retroverb Lancet you simply can achieve this effect by pressing the Crash button. It also can be triggered by a Gate voltage.

The multimode filter works as lowpass or highpass with a slope of 24 dB per octave or as bandpass with 12 dB per octave. It is followed by a voltage controlled amplifier. The filter and amplifier can be modulated individually by different sources.

LFO: the LFO offers saw up and saw down, square, sine as well as sample&hold. Additionally it can use the envelope generators settings as waveform. It can oscillate freely or reset by different trigger sources.

Expanded take on Mutable Instruments' famous Clouds granular texture synthesiser - black faceplate, 34HP
Notes: Clouds, the granular synthesis module from Mutable Instruments, was discontinued in 2017. Supercell brings back Clouds in a more accessible 34 hp form factor, offering an improved user interface and several additional features:

- Each of the Blend parameters (Feedback, Panning, Mix, and Space) have dedicated knobs with their own CV inputs and inverting attenuators (attenuverters).

- The inputs and outputs now have mute switches, stereo VCAs, and separate VU meters. The knobs act as offset controls when their respective VCA inputs are patched.

- A stereo output gain control has been added, providing an additional +6 dB of gain to compensate for low output levels when using certain parameter combinations.

- The complex process of changing the sampling time and managing presets has been simplified with dedicated switches and status LEDs.

- Extensive modulation options for all parameters including direct patching of external CV, distribution of one CV to all parameters via the AUX input, or an internal smooth random CV that is normalized to any unpatched inputs when AUX is also unpatched. The attenuverters control the modulation depth in all three cases. As of firmware v1.01 the internal modulation rate can be adjusted within a range of 1 to 100 Hz.

- The inputs and outputs now include stereo VCAs and separate VU meters. The knobs act as offset controls when their respective VCA inputs are patched.

- Pitch is now controlled by two separate inputs: the V/Oct input is exponential and the Pitch input is linear. When both inputs are used, their voltages are summed.

- A manual Trig switch (for capturing individual grains) has been added, in addition to the Trig input that was present on Clouds.

All other features of the original Clouds remain intact, including access to the alternate modes. Thanks to Olivier Gillet for making the original Clouds hardware and firmware available under open-source licenses. Third-party firmware such as Parasites (by Matthias Puech) and Beat Repeat (by Julius Kammerl) will be supported in future firmware updates after the initial release of the module.

Notes: Tiptop Audio's Z-DSP is a cartridge-based open source digital sound processing and effects generating platform for your modular synthesizer. Lush audio processing, greater stereo depth and a unique set of digital synthesis is what the Z-DSP is all about.

The Z-DSP has a stereo digital sound processor with 24-bit sampling, 15kHz of bandwidth, voltage-controlled parameters of stereo feedback, program switching, DSP parameters, equal power crossfading dry/wet mixing, as well as sequential program control switching and a clear display - all in Eurorack format. A new analogue dry/wet circuit has been implemented to remove the 3db gain drop when the mix knob passes through the centre of the dial making the use of this function more practical in a live application. A reverse polarity protection has been added as well. The new front-panel matches Tiptop's colourful design, and a single printed circuit board and surface mount technology improve reliability during production and use. The powerful Z-DSP engine remains the same as the original Z-DSP module and all cards are compatible across both versions.

An assortment of interchangeable cards, programmed by Tiptop Audio and specialists like Valhalla DSP, provide a wide range of boutique effects algorithms such as Halls of Valhalla, Time Fabric, Clocked Delays and Grain De Folie. Tiptop Audio also offers blank Z-DSP cartridges and a development tool called NumberZ for developers, students and power users who want to design their own effects and cards with the FV-1 DSP chip programming language. Blank cards can be loaded using programs that are freely available for non-commercial use and can be found in the modular community through online forums. The 4ms Dual Looping Delay (or DLD) is an advanced audio processor for creative synthesis. Not a tape or analog emulation but a modern crystal-clear digital delay, the DLD combines features of delay, looping, and sample-tight synchronization for powerful and dynamic sound capture and modification. The DLD is designed to integrate seamlessly with modular time-base and sequencing devices such as the 4ms Quad Clock Distributor (QCD), etc.

What is a "Looping Delay"?
Modern looping devices grew directly from hardware digital delays of the late 70s and early 80s. A looping delay, modelled on units such as the classic Lexicon PCM42, has the very long storage times associated with dedicated looping, but without triggered record and playback functions.

By default, a looping delay records and plays continuously, though recording can be suspended at any time with Infinite Repeat. Sustain of delays and loops is mainly accomplished with regeneration, allowing an organic, evolving approach to sound creation as new material replaces old, more or less gradually. The 4ms Dual Looping Delay also provides advanced clock input and output facilities that allow for locking delayed and looped material with sequencers and rhythm devices of all descriptions.

The system has two separate modules, the core of the mixer: Hexmix that has six channels with three band EQ, mute, pan and EQ section on the master, and Hexpander that add three auxiliar sends per channel, PFL, individual outs and balanced output.

This is a six channels mixer with three band EQ, vactrol mutes, pan and volume control per channel.

Inputs for every channel are located at left side of Hexmix. Each jack is normalized to a VCA Expander connection in the back, so if you have a Hexmix VCA, you will have the output of each VCA to every input. connecting a jack in any input will disconnect whatever is coming from VCA.

Each Channel Strip is divided in four basic sections, that will go in the following order: Gain, Mute, EQ and Pan.

Gain is set to unity, so it will act as an attenuator of the input signal. Mutes are clickless, as they are vactrol based. This circuit provide some decay on the mutes, rather than a sharp cut.

Switches have latch position and momentary ones to unmute the channel, providing some really nice performative capabilities.

EQs are quite sharp (12dB) inspired in classic DJ mixers to aggressively cut selected frequencies.

Master section has its own EQ and volume control for the mix of all channels. Master EQ is software than individual channel's (6dB) and it's meant to provide control over the final mix.

It's possible to change output level from line to synth with a switch located in the back.

This will be pretty useful when used in combination with Hexpander, that provides a balanced out at line level. Like this it's possible to have a mix at synth level to re-route the master signal while having an output to PA.

Connectivity comes well catered for courtesy of USB, MIDI In, MIDI Out, Ext In (external analogue signal input), line OUT, and headphone output - not forgetting, of course, CV Out (supporting both the V/octave and Hz/V standards) and Gate Out (V-Trigger- and S-Trigger-compatible), allowing a myriad of suitably equipped older (or newer) synths to be connected to the Pulse 2 to mirror whatever MIDI 'note' information is being played by the Pulse 2, including the output of its powerful ARP (arpeggiator). And if that's not enough to be getting on with, the CV Out can even be modulated in the eight-slot modulation Matrix, making for even more tantalising tone colours and performance possibilities!

Alongside analogue must-haves like a noise generator, Pulsewidth modulation, and hard Sync, other notable features include an Alternating Pulsewidth Modulation mode new to the Pulse 2 (offering a dense PWM sound without affecting perceived loudness), and an XOR Osc mode (that is a binary XOR combination of two PWM oscillators with two distinct output levels - high and low only - capable of producing inharmonic spectra unlike anything associated with any analogue synthesizer other than the original Pulse) - all of which, of course, contribute to kickstarting those still soughtafter sounds right here, right now in the 21st Century. Speaking of which, 500 onboard sound programs should be more than
enough to keep the most diehard synthesist smiling! What's more, all are backwards-compatible with the original Pulseseries, so original Pulse owners can quickly transfer their favourite sounds to their new Pulse 2 via MIDI (dump).
