000 Baby (6:41)
000 Baby (OM Unit remix) (6:17)
Review: After many years turning out 12"s, Klasse Wrecks has decided to serve up a first-ever 10" and they give the honour to Mr. Ho. His '000 Baby' is a delightfully widescreen sound - a post-rave mix of comedown electronics, dusty breakbeats and soothing ambient pads with some smart vocal samples drifting like wispy clouds. On the flipside, we're treated to and OM Unit remix that beefs things up and speeds up the drums. The percussion too is more defined and the energy levels ramped up with deft 808 bass and searching acidic leads. A nice yin to the A-side's yang.

Slow (8:09)
Justify My Love (7:31)
Review: Whoever is behind these STEDIT drops is striking upon pure gold, bringing a legitimately underground techno crunch to the pop edit practice. Having previously tackled the likes of Brandy & Monica and Ultra Nate, now two of the biggest pop divas of all time are getting some low down and dirty reworkings which tread the fine balance between earworm familiarity and the heads down moodiness of a locked-in dancefloor. 'Slow' becomes a slippery acid abstraction peppered with all kinds of sonic freakery, while 'Justify My Love' becomes a brooding, steadfast workout tipped towards the minimal crowd.

Scorpio (7:59)
Ether (4:36)
Review: This is a superb cross-Atlantic collaboration between hoodie aka Naemi and Shy and James K that harks back to the chillout rooms of the early post rave era. It's hazy and lo-fi music that fuses dub and downtempo with ambient synthscapes and in the case of 'Scorpio' deft vocal snippets that blur in and out of focus. On the flip is a wholly ambient exploration in 'Ether' which suspends you in space and time as arching pads reach out into infinity all around you. Two blissful pieces of musical meditation.

Review: 10 Seconds is a series of beat-driven vinyl releases from Canadian artist A Track. He is best known for being a part of the globe-trotting EDM circuit and has been for decades. He also runs his own Fools Gold label and puts out from time to time a series of beat experiments smashed out on his SP1200 drum machine. This series kicks off with a nice red 10" and four cuts of floor-wrecking electro that are raw and brain-frying. They're not big, they're not hard, they're not smart, but they are sure to be damn effective.

Max M - "1002A"
Fabrizio Lapiana - "1002B"
Review: The latest offering on the sleek techno platform M Rec finds label boss Max M sharing vinyl-filling duties with Attic Music boss Fabrizio Lapiana, between them serving up focused slices of modernist techno with a side-serving of mechanised soul. Max M's "1002A" is a finely honed roller that works delicate chimes and gossamer beats into a honeycomb pattern that will appeal to all lovers of deep and hypnotic techno. Fabrizio Lapiana takes a more overtly romantic approach on "1002B", letting mournful synth notes call out an autumnal soliloquy over gently pattering rhythms to great effect. This is highly developed techno for those who want some colour rubbed into their functional club wares.

Overall Severity - "1003A"
Fabrizio Lapiana - "1003B"
Review: The unstoppable rise of the M_Rec Ltd imprint continues unabated, with another split release giving rise to two diverse slices of contemporary techno. Overall Severity, something of an unknown quantity in these parts, delivers the stout and sinister "1003A" with its eerie discordant synth lines, rousing drum lines and seductive pads making for just the right kind of main room peak time techno cut to win hearts and minds all over. Fabrizio Lapiana takes a more emotive approach, using rapid salvos of percussion but keeping them simmering rather than slamming, while reams of plaintive keys ring out with a palpable patience in a fine demonstration of machine soul.

Metempsychosis
Review: Italian crew Repitch Recordings, made up of Ascion, D. Carbone and new school industrial-noise heavy weight Shapednoise usher in the second release in their 10Inch series, which launched in impressive fashion with the split release from Marcelus and Markus Suckut. Using their previous works as a references point, the production of "Basic Impact" suggest more Ascion and D. Carbone input than Shapednoise, as undulating low end grooves, rhythmically delayed hi-hats and traditional techno drums share a similar cadence to Xhin's earlier work on Stroboscopic Artefacts, while the industrialised drum sequences and scorching panoramic noise-scapes of "Metempsychosis" make it undeniably known Shapednoise helmed the controls of this production.

Review: Oceanvs Orientalis and Ilhan Ersahin first entered each other's orbits by chance at a performance at Turkey's Cappadox Festival in 2018. Orientalis is renowned for his fusion of Eastern musical motifs and traditions with cutting-edge electronica, while Ilhan Ersahin has long plowed a unique path uniting assorted musical strains from around the world via an exploratory jazz-improv sensibility. Following two tracks ('Mesta' and 'Pire') co-written by Ilhan and OvO and released as collaborations, as well as two more Ersahin / OvO co-writes ('Revenge Of The Wankers' and 'Television') released under OvO's name alone, a fresh and exciting new song, '1980', now heralds a full-length collaboration slated to land in Spring 2024. The track's title hints at a certain nostalgic bent, all while still keeping its gaze firmly fixed on the future as it evokes sun-drenched, bygone good times. The 10" edition adds several extra versions, one of which spotlights the multi-instrumental mastery of Darkside's Dave Harrington, and the other the mesmerizing vocal stylings of Gaye Su Akyol.

1985 (club mix)
1985 (dub mix)
Review: As collaborations go, this is an interesting one. It sees keys-totin' veteran Boyd Jarvis - a maker of slick US garage since the late 1980s - team up with drum machine revivalist Nick Anthony Simoncino for a spot of cross-generation pollination. The resulting track, offering in Club and Dub flavours, mixes all manner of live keys, organs, electric pianos and percussion with the sort of stark, stripped-back machine rhythms that marks out Simoncino's productions. It's an odd but alluring fusion; spacious and out-there while being dubby and floor-friendly, it sounds like a long lost outtake of a recording session from 1985. Which, we guess, is probably the idea.

Review: Studio Barnhus don Kornel Kovacs returns to his birth year with three beautifully repurposed tracks from the mid 80s for the Puss label he shares with HNNY. It's nice to see the humour evident in all Barnhus output transferred here, with each of the three shimmering, gymnastic synth workouts peppered with a pop sensiblity. Indeed, they are guaranteed to raise a wry grin from anyone old enough to remember them. With "Ivan" featuring in sets from the likes of Tensnake and Jackmaster, the hype on these limited 10" is already justified.

The Blitz (Data mix)
G Dub (Dark Park mix)
Review: After some time spent in anonymity, Gari Romalis' time has surely come and recent appearances for Hizo Deep Rooted Music and Dockside have brought the Detroit-based producer back into the limelight. On this turn for Rawax "The Blitz (Data Mix)" comes on with all the grit you'd expect of the Motor City, rocking a chunky, bouncing rhythm and some dusty, filtered samples beefed up and honed for maximum floor damage. "G Dub (Dark Park Mix)" meanwhile wriggles into a deeper framework comprised of a bugging bass synth, cool and deadly chords and yet more of that addictive Romalis bump. This is as sturdy a kind of club tackle as you could ever wish for.

Fred Everything & 20For7 - "Friday" (feat Vanessa Baker - Crazy P dub)
Review: Second vinyl only sampler for the forthcoming digital only compilation that celebrates five years of Lazy Days with some classy remixers like Crazy P, Art of Tones and Ian Pooley taking on the label's best-loved tracks. This classy two-track ten kicks off with a Greg Wilson remix of "U Give Me" from Lovebirds which douses the crispness of the original in a sheen of resplendent pads, expertly dubbing out the vocal refrain and generally sexing proceedings up some. On the flip Crazy P tackle boss man Fred Everything's collab with 20 For 7 and Vanessa Baker, dropping a tightly wound burner filled with jagged arpeggios and bumping rhythms that ascends excellently into full on disco mode midway through.

Life's A Killer (part 1 & 2) (9:49)
Review: Mark Phillips and Rob Lawrence made some of the heaviest industrial music during the 80's, and certainly some of the best the UK has seen, under the name 5X0D. This 1982 reissue was way beyond its time back then, bringing together the energy and cutting edge of techno and acid together with the chilling ambience of early synth music by the likes of Kraftwerk and the rest of the German 70's lineage. Take away the vocals and "Negativ Terminal Data" literally sounds like an early Chicago experimentation by the house legends of the day. It's certainly a recommended title and a highlight for this week's digging selection.

So Get Down
Review: After kicking off Tomoki's Holic Trax back in 2012, Mr G is back on the 10" focused label once again with two cuts that tap right in to his skills in austere and immersive house music. "A G Moment" is a classic groover from the G camp, all heavily filtered chord throb and steadfast drums in a somnambulant but utterly soulful state of being. There's a touch more spice to be found on the flip side with the titular diva vocal licks that decorate "So Get Down", while the drums roll with a more pronounced weight, particularly in the bottom end.

Review: The increasingly impressive Lobster Theremin label seems to be developing close ties to Hungary's emerging electronic music scene. Having previously released a superb EP from Budapest-based Imre Kiss, they've now turned to one of the country's more established names, S. Olbricht (an alias of producer Martin Mikolai). There's much to admire on this intoxicating four-tracker, from the alien electonics and hustling drums of leftfield techno opener "Fi", to the crackling, off-kilter rhythms and ghostly chords of "RPSTS". Elsewhere, Mikolai demonstrates his deep house nous on the warming "IIX1", and fuses twinkling melodies, creepy chords and a throbbing low-end groove on the similarly impressive "Veuns".

Review: Those who've studied Tony Allen's distinctive drumming style often cite Art Blakey as an influence, so it's little surprise to find him paying tribute to the legendary jazz drummer on this superb album. Joined by his regular band, Allen covers a quartet of tracks written and recorded by Blakey and his band, the Jazz Messengers. The results are predictably impressive, with Allen's loose and polyrhythmic percussion providing a rock solid foundation for the horns, piano and double bass that sits atop. It's naturally closer to all-out jazz than to Afrobeat, but still bristles with the kind of punchy horns and life-affirming playing that characterizes Allen's work. "Thunder Suite", in which Allen drops a number of sweaty drum solos, is particularly potent.
