Review: Copenhagen-based Icelander Ohm and Berlin-based Philipp Priebe mine the warmest depths of dub techno here across three stumble originals. 'Flickering Lights' is silky and muted, with smooth drums and claps gliding over a cavernous groove that is subtly lit with sustained chords. The Anton Kubikov remix is more lithe and electronic, with reflective synths and nimble leads making for a minimalistic workout. There is then a shadowy but dynamic dub vibe to 'Sacred Night' before 'Roaming' rives this EP home with a mix of deft sound designs and pillow dub drums. It's brilliantly introspective.

They cooked up some of minimal's most essential tunes some 20-odd years ago and they have become expensive and highly sought after since. This EP is one of them and it features three killer cuts that will move a dancefloor as much today as ever. 'Make A Move' has a pent-up energy and forward drive that sweeps you up and keeps you locked amongst soft hi-hats and vamping chords. Review: Eclectic technoizer Basic Bastard locks arms with Detroiter Orlando Voorn, their dual sonic output being the new 'Drama' EP. The three-tracker is nothing short of a sonic adventure, spanning acid, to dub, to uncategorisable entrainments. Review: Few artists can genuinely to have carved their own niche within electronic music, but with the Don't DJ project, Florian Meyer has done just that. Describing his sound is notoriously difficult, but in essence it offers up a kind of twisted, ritualistic, leftfield take on tribal-influenced sounds that employs unusual, often highly complex rhythms. His latest single, which acts as a taster for his forthcoming album on Berceuse Heroique, offers a neat summary. 'Lemon Garlic' is a superb, near 15-minute workout in which looped, marimba style melodic loops, mutilated flute samples, breezy lead lines and tropical noises rise above an impossible-to-describe percussive rhythm. Wah Wah Wino crewmember Morgan Buckley provides the flipside remix, adding live bass and exotic instrumentation to a re-tooled, four-to-the-floor take on Meyer's polyrhythmic groove.

Review: Released back in 1996, Test Pilot Vol 1 has remained a highlight of the Viewlexx label ever since and has been one of those records that command regular calls for a repress. Review: First available digitally earlier in the year and now finally out on wax, this tidy 12" showcases a quartet of killer cuts from the studios of In Dust We Trust co-founders, Chaos in the CBD (New Zealand-born siblings Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales) and Jon Sable. The trio offer up two collaborative cuts, both of which give different spins on the fusion of dub techno and hypnotic deep house. There is plenty of space out cosmic energy to the exploratory leads of X Termal's 'Tragnal Kozze' then 'What If' (The Doulo Klan edit) is a tightly coiled stepper. Bugger lays down a hyper speed rhythm with drilling bass and slapping hits on 'No Silence Now' and Umbra's 'The Big Dumb' is a real slow-motion churner with textural synths and alien sound designs. Review: In 2021 we were treated to a new entry in Jeff Mills' venerated Millsart series via the outstanding, house-tinted Think Again 12" and now he's gracing us with more of that sublime, deep-tripping, soul-enriched magic via this frankly outstanding new record. Once again there's an emphasis on warm musicality, not least the piano coursing through 'Nocturnal Moves', but as is Mills' way the melody always teeters on the edge of discord and microtonality, crating a very special kind of spirituality which could well send shivers down the spine of the dancefloor. Review: Romanians Drago Ilici and Prichindel's Tonomat Records welcome boss man Ilici in his Dilly Bombastik guise for a new EP packed with power across three fresh cuts and one remix from DJ Normal 4. 'Reflo' kicks off with the sort of crunchy drums and breaks that you don't hear all too often out of the more minimal minded Romanians. It's awash with some cosmic melody that brings the vibes then 'Workout' is a party pumper with slinky drum loops and molten synth patterns raining down from above. 'Stelu Gamanu' gets all dark and paranoid with a more edgy breakbeat foundation and DJ Normal 4's Melange mixX is all 90s video game synths and melted neon synths. Great stuff.

Review: With a run of knockout singles on XL reaching back to 2016, Tom and Ed Russell finally deliver the album we always knew they had in them. Overmono is a project which happily gorges on the best bits of rave culture and spits back out something fresh, universal and yet still headsy enough to keep the underground faithful happy. Good Lies builds on that promise in every way, threading in anthemic vocal hooks and massive emotive brushstrokes without losing that legit bite which has made them so enduringly popular. 'Is U' has an eye on the charts for sure, with plenty of big festival moments bagged along the way for their live shows and everyone else DJ sets. 'Walk Thru Water' hits a more melancholic note with St. Panther on vocals, but it's still masterfully crafted to bring out joyous escapism with gnarly synth flex on top. Something for everyone, then.

Review: KW has long been a talented producer who has operated in the shadows. He emerges from them now with another EP on Ilian Tape only six or so months after his last standout effort. Altgr is another fine one that opens with 'Midnight Run', a skittish flurry of breakbeats and snares, grumbling bass and kinetic energy that never lets up. 'Paste' is just as rhythmically inventive, this time lurching backwards and forwards but with more pensive pads and 'Copy' keeps up the leftfield inventions that make this return so welcome. Review: While Vince Watson's 2002 classic 'Moments In Time' certainly stood the test, the Scottish producer and DJ has now revisited the theme with his very own sequel to the project, 'Another Moment In Time'. Review: Dark Entries label regulars De-Bons-en-Pierre are back with more of their scuzzy delights in the form of their Card Short of a Full Deck EP. It's drenched in textbook sludginess as is often the way with Beau Wanzer and Maoupa Mazzochetti ever since they came together in 2016. These tunes were all originally written back in 2019 for live performances and really find the pair pushing at the boundaries of accepted social norms. The absurd sounds pair skipping rhythms with dark and freaky basslines and plenty of eerie rave chords to make for an all-new kind of dance floor energy.

Review: Wavy, acidic, subtly trance-y, and resolutely deep. BOHM drops four pieces on the right side of tech for snobs to get on board (we're not getting involved in that), which owe plenty to the likes of John Tejada, A Sagittariun's early work, and others that have mastered the art of crafting tracks that we can safely listen to softly and still find plenty to talk about, but heard loud and in a club will take on a new, all-commanding power. At least that's the case with 'Light Transmission' and 'Solar Limit', which open the scoring here. Moving forward, B-side pair 'Unsolved Origin' and 'Monarch Monster' take some complexities out of the equation, respectively opting for more pared back bounce and stripped down, old-school hued electro. Both also work very well indeed - hence the recommendation here.

After the pair's seminal self-titled debut album set a new benchmark for what was possible with a dance music full length, they managed to do it again with Rhythm & Stealth. It will be forever best known for the tune that was picked and used in the Guinness advert ('Phat Planet') but that is just one of the many highlights. The album originally came in 1999 and was nominated for the 2000 Mercury Music Prize as well as making number one on the UK Albums Chart. It is a full-fat mix of epic basslines, driving percussion and dark moods that adds up to a head-melting soundtrack to a damn good night.

Review: Past Inside the Present's 'Pulse' series is an investigation into ambient tech and beat-driven ambient sounds. Who better for the job on this second edition than master craftsmen ASC and Joachim Spieth? ASC opens up with 'Tidal Disruption Event', an understated, underwater rhythm with jittery percussive patterns and bright shards of melodic light piercing through the mix as more coarse soundwaves break over the top. Spieth's 'Subtle' is just as artful and delicate a mix of persuasive rhythm and melodic beauty. A classy Nitechord remix closes out this fascinating EP.

Review: Waage is a firm favourite amongst dub techno fans. The Icelandic producer has long been turning out icy and atmospheric rollers for the heads and here he works alongside a fresh name, Quantal, who is sure to go on to big things. Here they land on Thule Records, a legendary label in its own right with roots going back to 1995. They kick off with the textured dub of 'WQ1' which has glitchy sounds paying over the rolling drums. 'WQ2' is much more smooth and streamlined, with an underwater current that sweeps you off your feet, then 'WQ3' leans into the wind with hypnotic techno drums and vamping chords that melt the mind. Last of all comes 'WQ4', a timeless dub with infinite horizons and the most frictionless drum loops.

Review: It's five up for the Future Tones label and taking charge for this latest 12" is Jorge Gamarra feat Ecstatic. Gamarra has been featured on plenty of different labels up to now, always with quality levels remaining high. Nothing changes here as 'Tricky' kicks off with a bit of tech house intrigue - unresolved loops and freaky sounds. 'Illapa' is a more dark and turbulent space-tech workout and 'Universe' then bumps on big drums with taught synths and 90s motifs while closer '52598' spins out on bleeps and warped pads that are heart of the dance floor perfection.

Review: Strap in for this one because Head Front Panel is here to rattle you to your foundations with another uncompromising EP of groove-driven techno. This is proudly linear, functional tackle but it comes with great sound designs and high-class ideas. 'Loom' has punchy rums stacked on top of one another and fizzing walls of rusty synth that break only to reveal chopped up vocal snatches. 'Momentum' is heavy and hard, with banging drums and more caustic synths and that continues through the relentless 'Running Man' and macho techno funk of 'Disc.'

Review: Buckle up for some no-nonsense techno thrills from a powerhouse collaboration, as Enrico Sangiuliano and Charlotte De Witte mint the third entry in Sangiuliano's self-styled 'transient record label' NINETOZERO. 'Reflection' has all the thunderous low end thrust a big room techno record requires, while the scattered hoover stabs and edgy vocal mantra bring the playful charm to the track - hold tight for the head-nagging acid drop. Meanwhile the 'Intro Mix' of the track gives DJs something to play with when kicking off one of those epic aircraft hangar sets. For something different on the B-side, Sangiuliano goes it alone and presents a tool of sorts featuring a stilted voice defining the titular 'Sources Of Propagation' in cold, clinical fashion - something we imagine will become fun to play through ample FX when getting creative in the mix.

Review: Founded in 2014 by Dutch techno stalwarts Jasper Wolff and Maarten Mittendorf, AEX are at the top of their game when it comes to sourcing quality experimental techno, having already spent plenty time and effort on former efforts like Indigo Aera. Focusing on V/A compilations has helped them maintain constant freshness, and this whopping sixteenth edition to the series is no exception to that rule. Bowler-overs like Ivano Tetelepta's '20+20' collide neatly with tricky clackers like Malin's 'Trummer Dub', while the B-side is taken up by the label's founders on some dubbier excursions.

Review: Tresor dig deep into the vaults for a reissue of one of Robert Hood's many seminal releases. This one comes under his The Vision alias and is an impressive 30 years old in 2023. It came originally in the year he left his Detroit hometown and the safety of the Underground Resistance label and head to New York with Jeff Mills. The music is fast and furious and funky as you would expect, with funky techno drum foundations and mind melting details up top. It set a ridiculously high standard and hasn't aged one single bit. All hail Hood.

Review: Dutch artist Frenk Dublin is evidently a master of minimalism and sublimation, with his new EP for Echo Ltd. here somehow managing to convey abyssal levels of depth, all while not seeming to reveal too much or indulge too many complex parts. It's this paradox that rests at the heart of dub techno; like dubstep, the trick is to emphasise weight and space, while layering things subtly enough not to betray the mystery. It's a well-deserved release for the esteemed label, following up priors on Dub Communication and Planet Rhythm. The most polished gem? 'Static Dub', which uniquely blends both high and low chord stabs, and gets them to take up wholly different rhythm- and freqspace.

Review: To date Wata Igarashi has released most of his work as singles. The Japanese techno producer has steadily risen in profile thanks to releases for the likes of The Bunker New York, Nidgar, Bitta and Delsin, but now his trajectory shifts into a different gear as he offers up his first fully-fledged artist album outside of Japan for the mighty Kompakt. It's clear from the offset he's relished the opportunity to stretch out on an album and we're treated to some stunningly rendered ambient and downtempo soundscapes - just listen to the slow rise and fall of 'Searching' and you'll be instantly sold. There's space for drama and accomplished composition as on 'Ceremony Of The Dead', jazzy exploits on 'Burning' and much more besides, showcasing the unbridled imagination of one of Japan's brightest talents.

Review: For their second release, Sound Migration has taken a deep dive into the music that soundtracked the infamous Goa party scene - initially populated by exiled hippies, but later a holiday haven for British E casualties and young Israeli ravers - between 1987 and 94. The tracks were chosen by scene stalwart (and key DJ) Ray Castle, making the blend of post-industrial EBM, early trance, new beat, formative progressive house and acid techno accurate and authentic.
