Review: Second time around for "Benefit", a breezy and soulful song by UK soul scene stalwart Omar that originally appeared on Boddhi Satva's 2015 album "Transition". This time round, the mixes come from deep house royalty Alton Miller and Kai Alce. The former handles the A-side, delivering a wonderfully warm, intricately produced extended rework that sees Omar's incredible vocal rise above bouncy Afro-house drums, darting synth bass, rich chords and all manner of subtle instrumental flourishes. Kai Alce provides both vocal and instrumental mixes on the flip, opting for booming bass, swinging, garage-influenced drums and some suitably old school organ riffs.

Review: When he first rose to prominence as a progressive house artist in the mid 1990s, Brian "BT" Transeau was something of a trailblazer: a classically trained artist who created a mixture of grandiose ambient compositions and dancefloor fare smothered in spiraling orchestration. "Between Here & You", his latest album, falls in the former category, offering an evocative journey through ambient sound worlds every bit as alluring as his earliest work. Tracks drift, pulse and slowly unfurl, with Transeau mixing subtle orchestration and disconnected female voices with impeccably atmospheric electronics and copious amounts of reverb and delay. In other words, its horizontal music that's best enjoyed with the lights off and your eyes closed.

The title track is an old school bit of hip hop with huge drum breaks, fills and a sing-along-chorus that's all about the good times. Review: There seems to be a renewed interest around the work of New York City legend DJ Duke in recent years. With seminal works released as early as the '90s on his Power Music imprint, the man responsible for timeless house classics "Blow Ya Whistle", "Throw Ya Hands In The Air" and "Stuck In The Middle" curiously operated under another alias - Electro Force. The Scandinavian artiste's love of bass heavy breakbeat sounds is on full display here. We're particularly enjoying the intoxicating smack electro of opener "Getting High", the lo-slung 303 euphoria of "Acid Stars", the groovy b-boy swagger of "Just Feel It" and dubby tool "Round & Round".

Review: Now you've stopped shouting "there's a new Nick Cave album" at everyone who walks past, comes near or might possibly be in earshot it's about time we dived into the contents of the legendary troubadour's 17th studio album. Be warned, though, what lies beneath is deep and immersive enough to drown in, and even the most effective divers wouldn't find a body. A suitably morose introduction, we think. Digressions aside, "Ghosteen" is a majestic, powerful, operatic experience that will change nobody's opinion of Cave and his band, The Bad Seeds. The works are just as innovative, poignant, graceful, melancholic, euphoric and inescapable as ever. Too many adjectives? We're making no apologies. Consider the title number, if that's not too obvious a focal point. Sparse yet grandiose, narrative driven but metaphorical, organic and earthy yet making incredible use of a theremin. Almost impossibly good, sit back and let it wash over your mind.

Review: Denmark's DJ Central has been behind some of the most interesting - and fun - house music of the last few years. His melodic, energetic take on the genre harks back to the Scandi-house heyday and now he's back with a third EP of the year already, this time on regular home Help. After opening with the lithe but dubbed out "Que", "Da Bu" moves things along with its punchy rubbery kicks and busy, rump-wiggling synth bass and "Ma La" exudes pure human warmth with jazzy chords and closer "Klum" gets more freaky, with a minimal rhythm and molten chords taking you to the afters.

Review: Produced by Leroy Hutson and Curtis Mayfield, released by Just Sunshine Records, over the course of five years, the community-based collective Voices Of East Harlem blessed the world with three albums and a whole string of funky singles, including these two cult tracks. "Wanted Dead Or Alive" is straight up funk with a strong splash of gospel. One of their most popular cuts, it was taken from their 1973 self-titled album. "Can You Feel It" on the B offers much more of a rare groove and funk vibe with keys and some powerful backing vocals. It still sounds as fresh as it did 45 years ago. You feeling it?

Review: Boston's Cultures Of Soul present some edits here of underrated Belizean artist Bredda "David" Obi whose musical style known as "Kungo Muzik" mixes key flavours from his home with reggae and calypso to rock and funk to formulate a modern tropical style. Years later, DJs and record collectors found his music in basements of record stores in Los Angeles and Brooklyn - some of which are featured here. Sol Power All-Stars will get you stoned into the groove with their acid-inflected rework of "Dancin'", L.A.'s DJ Duckcomb works the original's lo-slung dub influence on "Experience" while the ever reliable Justin Van Der Volgen similarly accentuates the reggae swagger of "Sunshine". Review: Lisbon-born, London-based producer Silvestre came to light on Disktopia before starting up the Padre Himalaya label to house his unconventional chuggers. This release for Secretsundaze finds him exploring his sound in greater detail, folding in a certain amount UK rave energy amongst other more esoteric motifs. The results are spellbinding, from the twilight marvels of "Lights" to the slow breakbeat chops and delirious harp trills of "Fuego". At times the ideas have a scuffed mixtape quality to them, which only adds to the charm. D.K. is on hand to deliver a remix for the broader needs of the dancefloor, although he wisely keeps the beguiling qualities of "Fuego" intact as he nudges it closer to the party.
