House In Blue Rain (5:42)
Dancing Moon (7:55)
Throne Of Clay (6:51)
Review: A new project based out of Copenhagen - Aether's Spring comes shrouded in mystery but makes a bold statement with this first transmission. WATER: Dancing Moon 12" leads in with "House In Blue Rain," a downcast track bathed in melancholic pads and blown out percussion around a steady 4/4 tick. "Dancing Moon" is a more kinetic affair that works with all kinds of synth shapes alongside some primal drum machine percussion that lends the track a new wave quality that suits it just fine. Closer "Throne Of Clay" spreads across the B side in a brooding, journeying epic fit for the likes of classic James Holden or a more wave-minded Jon Hopkins.

In Her Eyes (Presence Deep dub mix) (8:30)
Review: Croatian mainstay Ilija Rudman had a productive 2016 thanks to turns on Chit Chat, Burek and Double Deer, and he turns to his own Imogen Recordings to kick off the new year with a brooding, drum-focused hit of oddball house music for the trippy, paranoid end of the night. The "Presence Deep Dub" mix of "In Her Eyes" is a multi-faceted jam, using high-end processing matched with organic, instinctive percussion to make for the kind of workout that will inspire all manner of curious reactions from the floor. It's a track more than strong enough to stand proud as a one-sided 12", with the crossover appeal to land in a whole host of different bags.

Missing Us
Missing Us (dub)
Review: Marking the start of an exciting new collaborative project, Wolf + Lamb proudly share the debut release of The Waves & Us. Formed out of
a creative meeting of minds between Maayan Nidam, Markus Nikolaus and Louis McGuire, theirs is a sound that strengthens the storied
approach of a live band with the experimental thrust of analogue electronics. Pop and rock fundamentals lend an earthly hook to the
tracks, but these are anything but straight-forward songs.
Maayan has already forged a formidable career in electronic music, both under her own name and as part of Mara Trax, scoring releases
on such celebrated labels as Perlon. Markus performs his own solo project Cunt Cunt Chanel, while Louis is part of Ballet School, a band
releasing on noted indie label Bella Union. The whirlwind of creativity that has whipped up around the trio has yielded an album which will
follow this single, made up of one-take recordings that capture the energy and adventure that powers The Waves & Us.
Maayan's electronics provide the atmospheric backdrop to the songs, running modular synthesisers and drum machines through detailed
chains of processing and effects with an emphasis on a warm, charmingly rough finish. Markus' guitar undergoes a similar fuzzy treatment
while his voice calls out introspective, abstract lyrics to set the mind racing. Louis' bass underpins the music with a dubby sensibility,
bringing a necessary balance to the frequency range.
Making the most of their in-the-room recording approach, the singles will feature alternative takes of the songs that will appear on the
album, providing a little insight into the flutters and fluctuations that shape the development of this project. With their eyes fixed on live
performances and an arresting sound already formed, this is a vital time for all three artists and the people that listen to them.

Departure (Shifted version) (5:53)
Human Moments In WWIII (5:40)
Human Moments In WWIII (Giorgio Gigli version) (5:59)
Review: Few techno producers can claim to have released material on quite as many well-loved labels as Jeff Derringer. This appearance on Lantham Audio comes on the back of releases for M_Rec, Perc Trax and Soma, amongst others. It features two original cuts - the acid-fired, broken techno psychedelia of "Departure", and the driving, intergalactic intensity of "Human Moments In WWIII" - with accompanying remixes. The first of these revisions comes from Shifted, who drags "Departure" further towards moody minimal techno territory. Arguably even better is Giorgio Gigli's version of "Human Moments In WWIII", which is a no-holds-barred acid techno onslaught.

Track 1 (6:53)
Track 2 (5:54)
Track 3 (5:03)
Review: Having just made a splash with a 12" of adventurous leftfield techno, Intercepts simultaneously emerges as an inventive force in the field of electro too. Again, we get three shadowy producers stepping out at a mean clip, with 'Track 1' running faster than average and revelling in razor sharp edits that split the difference between braindance, d&b and machine funk and come up with dark, sinewy gold. 'Track 2' eschews the kicks and works a few more melodic elements into the mix for a starry-eyed piece with an underlying spookiness. Then 'Track 3' locks into something much more upfront with a chunky lead hook and satisfyingly dirty drums. There's serious flex in the synth work here, suggesting someone that may have been honing their craft for some time already. Electro heads take note - this is something different.

DJ Chalice - "Raise Ya Chalice" (3:40)
Review: Chow Down serves up its second release with the adventurous grime exploits of Fallow and DJ Chalice, twisting out all kinds of audacious bass shapes that would set the dance alight at parties such as Boxed. Fallow takes the A side with confidence, fresh from a release on Blood Frenzy, and "Blitz" shows the emergent producer is taking no prisoners with a hail of bullets and haunting Indian classical samples. "Northern Don" is a more wobbly synth-rich beat, while "Operation Dark Fruit VIP" amps up the grime strings. DJ Chalice has a lighter touch, bringing in some sunnier melodics and embracing the RnB influences on "Artois Anthem".

Ecstasy (Joseph Watt extended mix)
Review: Emotional Rescue make no attempt to hide their love of classic 80s cutters Razormaid's remixes, and on this occasion they're shining a light on the pumped up dancefloor versions of cult Canadian synthwave concern Psyche. The "US Club Mix" of "Eternal" is a perfect, swooning synth pop belter with weight in all the right places to work on the floor. "Prisoner To Desire (Alcatraz Mix)" is a snarling stomper that almost touches on acidic synth lines underneath the impassioned vocals, and then an exclusive re-edit of "Unveiling The Secret" ups the tempo while letting the catchy pop edge to Psyche's sound shine through. The record finishes with the fevered intensity of Joseph Watt's extended mix of "Ecstasy".

Review: The OdD Music crew are back with more of that off-kilter, subtly freaked up house music shuffle to make your bones shake. This sixth release on the label has everything any minimal head craves, not least on opening jam "Forty Five" with its nervy piano licking away underneath a heavy filter while the groove rolls on incessantly. "Thirty Three & A Third" takes a different approach, dropping some deft broken beats into the mix and letting some spaced out synth wobbles ping the track into a curious new orbit. "Nine" finishes the EP off with some immersive percussive tones that call to mind ritualistic dancing and transcendental experience, just like all good party music should.

Review: Ali Renault's techno bludgeon instrument Vivod gets another notch in its handlebar with this appearance from new Glaswegian venture UNI.OMNI. It's rasping, rabid stuff with distortion and noise in abundance, but these wild elements are actually wielded with a firm grip on opening beast "Acceptance Resistance". "Metaphysical Lives" meanwhile channels some wave influences while keeping up the sense of foreboding, "Sequential Self" gets into a death disco spiral complete with beyond the grave vocals and "Viral Dread" goes even further into the graveyard while keeping the stiff dancefloor pressure dial turned up to 11.

Review: The next release on Dream Diary comes from VTR, a hotly-tipped South London duo who merge various strains of electronic music with soul and pop songwriting nous. This debut EP was reportedly co-produced by Afriqua, who have been previously spotted on R&S as well as Dream Diary. "Soul To Skin" opens the EP in a mellow fog of ambient synths and arresting vocals that sound reminiscent of Stevie Nicks. That echo is confirmed on track two, a sultry cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" that will no doubt draw plenty of attention in the band's direction. "Whisper" taps up a little of James Blake's crooked blue-eyed soul, and watch out for long time tech house producer Inxec popping up to remix "Soul To Skin."

Review: Icelandic techno veteran Yagya enjoys a release on X/OZ that celebrates both new and old material. The tempo is noticeably ramped up on "One Weak Light" but never at the expense of that dark and mysterious Icelandic hue. "Existence Is Weird" is no slouch either, but Yagya shapes out his atmospheres with such a refined touch that you barely notice how quick the tracks are running. "A Very Long Daydream" is a gorgeous ambient track dug out of the archives, while "Getting Closer To An Unknown Goal" sees the re-release of a track Yagya released as Rhythm Of Snow back in 1999.

Review: Proving it's still not safe to hit the streets of Melbourne after dark, Power Cuts are at it again with even more dodgy dealings from shady punks with drum machines and synthesisers. Siaubaus' "Haunted White Paper" is as schlocky a slice of wave-esque 80s beatdown as you could ever wish for, while label boss Kris Baha offers up a particularly crusty vision of acid house. On the B side, Disrute edges towards an industrial, new beat tinted workout that's all about the rasping drum hits above all else. Dane//Close finish the EP off with "ForJorge", an angular, mechanical piece with hidden depths folded into the production.

Rainbow Perch (Emile Strunz remix)
Review: US label Wonder Stories follow up strong turns from Macaulay, Joe Morris and Jac The Disco with this hemisphere-spanning collaboration between Aussie producer Dawn Again and UK stalwart Rothmans. The mood on the record is squarely aimed at psychedelic strains of house music for adventurous, smooth grooving souls, whether it's the originals or the remixes you came for. "Timeless Odyssey" matches fuzzy bass with swirling pads and peppy rhythms, which Timothy J Fairplay dutifully jacks up with a wavey sensibility and plenty of dancefloor heft. "Rainbow Perch" is a synth-rich party ballad loaded with heart to match its infectious grooves. Emile Strunz delivers a remix that builds on the original's yearning qualities with a journeying spirit that would make for some great outdoors listening / partying.

Review: Moon Temple is the new project of Gabriel Andruzzi and if the name sounds vaguely familiar; you probably know him from his involvement in a popular punk-funk band that was active in the mid noughties. This nine track album is Andruzzi's first release under this alias and follows up Moon Temple I, also released this week. According to WT, the album is a collection of "delicate interludes, acid stompers and weirdo spastic mechanical marches." Starting out with the early nineties, Plastikman sounding hardware techno jam "The Short Dance", there's the pounding and stripped hard techno of "Ocean Of Storms" (which calls to mind locals like Shawn O'Sullivan) and the deep and drifting hypnotism of "Lake Of Forgetfulnes".

Review: Aside form being a poignant and startling presence on our charts, the Mannequin label is doing plenty of justice to Italy's industrial past. Throughout the last few years, label head Alessandro Adriani has resurfaced a whole heap of incredible music from the European peninsula, and this single by the shady Flo & Andrew is a perfect example of that. Released in 1981, "Take Suicide" is a deranged pic of music, like a cavernous wave of distorted sonics and technoid power beats, it truly makes us wonder what these two dudes were smoking back in the early 80s! On the flip, things turn even weirder thanks to the ominous bleeps and sonics of "To Committ Suicide", followed by a sublime porterhouse number called "Japanese Girls". The synths on the latter are particularly reminiscent of Mr Fingers' best output. A touch of class, and an excellent reissue. 5 stars.

It's a collection of all things soulful. lo-fi and above all: deep! Starting off with the tough dark house of "Benny's Dump Run" which would definitely make his buddy DJ Qu proud, it gets more ethereal and spiritual on the entrancing "Adams Street 78", but things take a turn for the acid techno variety on the gutsy and intense soul searcher "The Phone Call". "Step In The Right Direction" gives its nod to the blueprint sounds of Detroit on this sublime serving of hi-tech soul circa 1988. Following up some great releases by Howie B, Terry Tester and B from E, the label head honcho himself shows us how its done on this great full length exploring a variety of moods and grooves.

Starting out with the dusty and choppy syncopations of the stomping title track, there's more quality to be found on the cheeky B side cut "Ocaj" with its woozy and hilarious vocal cut ups over a slow and rusty stomp with hazy wah wah guitar. Finally "Rhodes House" does exactly what it says on the tin with this short but sweet exercise in deepness that takes its cues from the imitable Moodymann. Following up some great tracks recently for the likes of Nettles and Nsyde, Danny Berman's on a roll at the moment!

Where You Should Be (Shy FX remix)
Review: Tempa drop another single from Skream's 2010 all conquering Outside The Box album in the shape of the awesome "Where You Should Be". Whilst the track features the vocal talents of Sam Frank, they are so heavily subjected to vocoder that his lyrics meld into the spiralling array of keyboard hooks and twilight tinged arpeggiated synth lines - with suitably woozy results. On the flip Digital Soundboy boss and all round legend Shy FX drops a killer remix which starts with the Mtume "Juicy" riddim before switching to more familiar rolling junglist pressure ably assisted by some sweet additional female vocals. Watch out for that half time drop! Also look out for a second all remix twelve with a suitably heavyweight line up.
