There's nothing new about ABY boxes. They're a very commonly used accessory and a staple part of many setups out there. But if they are so common, then why is it so difficult to find one in a stereo format that's well built, noise-free AND affordable?

So, KMA made a killer stereo ABY switcher to use in the workshop. In the process it was found to be so useful, it has been made available to the world too in a pedal format.

KMA's STEREO ABY features a fully passive design for the best signal integrity, along with True Bypass active silent relay-based soft switching. While that might be a hell of a wordy mouthful, what it means practically is that the audio signal itself is entirely untouched and without any colouration. Plus, you can use the device in either direction, for sending to different sets of amps or effects or for switching inputs/ instruments/devices into your chain.

However, the actual switching is taken care of by reliable and sturdy soft switches as a separate active circuit. By employing this switching technology, mechanical noise is greatly reduced, as is the risk of those pesky loud c
licks and pops that have plagued so many boards and has haunted so many musicians, since the inception of ABY boxes.

The bears eyes also light up - how awesome is that!? Notes: DRONX is a special mixer designed especially for the DRONE38 module; if has 6 input channels (so you can connect two DRONE38 modules) and offers some sound processing capabilities: A tone control with bass and treble control, a distortion, and finally a dual delay with different algorithms. Two insert points allow to add up to two more audio effects to the internal signal chain. Together with the DRONE38 module(s) you get a quite nice drone synth for dense, dark soundscapes.

Of course, it can be used with any other sound sources!

Review: Lost & Found might quite a mark on the progressive scene after 100 releases over the 11 years it was in operation. Having closed down mid-way through last year, fans of the label were still clamouring for a best of compilation. The label heard these requests and decided to make one last going away present in the fantastic form of a box set! Six records in total! Some of these tracks were only available on digital prior to this release makes this package extra special. Inside are big label hits like Kevin Yost's 'Persistence', Guy J - 'Seven' & Khen's 'Authentica'. To pick 24 tracks to represent the history of the label must have been a daunting task. Progressive heads are celebrating with this amazing retrospective from Lost & Found

Notes: The Cosmic ECHO is an analogue-sounding LoFi delay that will work with just about anything you plug into it.

The dark, lush, moody tones of the ever-popular PT2399 IC provide an out-of-this-world experience. Our take on this classic pedal pushes the chip's limits so you can explore all the gritty elements drifting at the edge of long delay rates. It already outperforms other bucket brigade style echoes, but just to be sure, we added 2 momentary switches, Zone and Warp.

Dark, rich sounds with the analogue vibe of a tape echo.

Uses the PT2399 IC, a bucket brigade style emulation. This IC has 16-bit sampling for 30-300 milliseconds. After that, the sample rate goes down in relation to the delay length. This results in artifacts and noise being introduced into the audio for weird, cosmic, psychedelic sounds.

Delay length: 30ms-1,250ms

3 knobs: Feedback, Mix and Rate. The Mix is a wet-only control that attenuates the amount of delayed signal in the signal chain. The Rate controls the number of repeats in an organic-sounding way.

Warp button: Momentary pushbutton switch that gives a bright, "small speaker" tone.

Zone button: Momentary pushbutton switch that introduces feedback into the circuit momentarily. Great for adding rhythmic feedback and other strange sounds. The Zone amount can be adjusted by an internal trim pot.

Pedal may have a slight volume drop.

Great for shoegaze, surf rock, ambient and experimental sounds.

Notes: Pont-Neuf is an adapeor module which converts between eurorack jacks (3,5mm / 1/8") jacks and banana plugs, providing a simple link between eurorack and Serge 4U systems. Notes: Module A-105-2 is a voltage controlled low pass filter with 24dB/octave slope.

It is the successor of the A-105 which had to be discontinued because the obsolete SSM2044 filter circuit. The A-105-2 is based on the SSI2144 which is in turn the successor circuit of the SSM2044. The features of both modules are nearly the same. The main difference is the clearly reduced front panel width of the A-105-2 (4HP instead of 8HP) and the associated changes of the controls and sockets positions. Notes: The model 230 double support is designed to house two large pieces of equipment, with the ability to improve the operating position of both.

In each position of the bracket, a 30cm piece of equipment can be placed. deep, such as Maschine MK3 and Maschine Jam.

Twenty years ago it sounded like an oddly poignant evocation of pre-millennial tension. Two decades later it stands as an eerily prescient glimpe into the technological alienation and dislocation of of a new era. Yet more importantly, OK Computer is no more or less than a sparkling, dramatic and moving collection of songs that haven't lost any of their impact in the interim. The sound of a band stubbornly refusing to follow up the stadium-strafing stylings of its predecessor The Bends - and instead bursting headlong into experimentation and wild creativity -is portrayed in still more vivid colours by the alarmingly strong collection of out-takes and B-sides collected herein, Yet there's no getting away from the chill and spark that marked out OK Computer from everything surrounding it in the post-Britpop malaise, and continues to do so in the pre-Brexit counterpart.

Review: Airto Moreira and Flora Purim are known as the legendary King and Queen of Brazilian Jazz. For the last 60 years they have been serving up rich and vivid albums as well as playing exhilarating live shows all over the world. They have fans all over the world from Japan's concert halls to the UK's jazz funk and jazz dance scenes and their latest album in 2022, If You Will, was nominated for a Grammy, proving that they very much still have it. A Celebration: 60 Years - Sounds, Dreams & Other Stories is a collection of their many best bits from over the years.

Review: Knitting Factory and Partisan Records share the sixth instalment of the much-anticipated vinyl reissue box-sets from the Fela Kuti catalog. Box #6 is curated by actor, producer, DJ, rapper and singer, Idris Elba (aka. DJ Big Driis). Limited to an edition of 5,000 worldwide, this one includes a 24-page booklet with lyrics, commentaries by Afrobeat historian Chris May, together with some never-before-seen photos, not to mention a 16x24" poster designed by Lemi Ghariokwu, the creative force behind many of Fela's greatest album covers. Previous curators include Chris Martin, Erykah Badu, Ginger Baker, Brian Eno, and Questlove.

The BOSS PH-3 Phase Shifter pedal provides a wealth of vintage and modern phasing effects, including new "Rise" and "Fall" modes for unique, unidirectional phasing. Review: So Tough was Saint Etienne's second album, and it properly broke the band into the wider public consciousness thanks to their canny blend of house music, Balearic and melancholic indie. To date it remains the highest charting of their albums, helped no doubt by Sarah Cracknell becoming a permanent member of the band, the free-spirited nature of independent music in the early 90s and the success of the single 'Youre In A Bad Way'. Some 30 years on from its original release, So Tough is getting the luxury reissue treatment in the form of a triple-vinyl pressing, a 7" and a 28-page booklet - surely essential for any of the band's devoted fanbase.

Review: Die Gestalten's commitment to gnarly underground electro continues apace with this triple-pack monster from the shadowy figure. As ever there's a steely, almost industrial focus to the sound, where machine funk goes heavy on the machine. There is space for some melodic warmth as well, such as the cosy lead lines cresting over the top of 'Der Sucher' and the artfully modulated live version of 'Traenen'. But even in these more approachable moments there's a sense of robotic detachment - this is electro in the purist, icy sense of the word. If you thirst for a large dose of truly underground gear from a lone wolf, this payload will have you body popping for days.

Notes: Expandoor

The Expandoor gets you quickly and simply using AMP's Melody Oracle, Star Song, or Touch Tones (as well as other possible future devices) as a CV and Gate controller. It outputs Eurorack-compatible CV and GATE signals, transforming your AMP device into a versatile and novel modular synth sequencer or controller. The Expandoor can be used as a standalone tabletop box, or mounted in a 3U 10HP rack space.

Three independent GATE outputs:

Just as the three "Register" zones on your AMP device gate the audio for the three octaves of the built-in synthesizer, there are three corresponding gate outputs on the Expandoor. The 1/8" jacks labelled "BS" "LH" and "RH" output ~11V DC gate signals whenever those zones are gating "ON" on your AMP device.

CV output, tuners and LED indicators:

The jack labelled "CV" outputs a tuned set of CV values (0-11V), tuned independently but correspondingly, to the set of tuners on your AMP device. The row of multi-turn tuners on the front panel allow fine tuning of each CV state. One tuner is active at a time, depending on the state of the "INTERVAL" zones on your AMP device. The active tuner is conveniently indicated in real time via lights found to the right of the tuners. The indicator lights serve a second function of showing you which tuner on the controlling AMP device is also active in parallel.

AMP LINK jacks

The AMP LINK jack on the bottom left of the front panel (with the arrow pointing IN) connects your controlling AMP device into the EXPANDOOR. Use only shielded CAT 5 or CAT 6 cables and connectors (the correct cables will have metal end connectors). The AMP LINK jack on the right outputs a signal identical to the input, allowing chaining of multiple Expandoors and/or Wave Expanders. Do not plug more than one AMP controlling device into a single Expandoor simultaneously, or damage to the devices could occur.

Each controlling device requires its own Expandoor or Wave Exapnder, but multiple expansion modules can be chained from one controlling device. One potential benefit to chaining expansion modules is the ability to output multiple tuned, corresponding but independent, CV channels. Meaning multiple sets of harmonic values could be tuned and accessed at the command of the single controlling AMP device, or accessed via other modules in your system.

Review: Arther Baker's Dance Masters series continues, as the spotlight turns to another remix legend: one of the originators of the form, John Luongo. Review: While they might be best known for one mega-hit, Pete Burns' Dead Or Alive were much more than 'You Spin Me Round'. Review: Dave Clarke's Red Series remains a vital benchmark in the evolution of UK techno. Notes: BOSS's iconic DD-3 Digital Delay has been a pedalboard staple since 1986, loved everywhere for its great sound and simple operation. With the DD-3T, we've updated the classic stomp with enhanced functionality while fully retaining the original's sound and control layout. It's now possible to tap in delay tempos using the onboard switch or an external one, with your choice of three beat subdivisions. And the direct output jack has been moved next to the main output, providing easier connectivity for wet/dry setups.

In continuous production for over three decades, the DD-3 has been the go-to delay stomp for countless players. Based on the DD-2-the world's first digital delay pedal from 1983-the DD-3 is revered for its warm, round delay tone and simple controls that let you dial in sounds fast. The DD-3T's sound circuitry and controls are identical to the DD-3, delivering every drop of that classic vibe you know and love.

A key addition the DD-3T brings is tap tempo, an essential feature for creating the rhythmic delay effects at the heart of many guitar styles. In delay mode, hold the pedal switch for two seconds to toggle between bypass and tap operation. And for on-demand tap control, simply connect an external footswitch. When the DD-3T receives tap input, up to 800 ms of delay time is available, and the Mode knob sets the tap subdivision (quarter-note triplet, dotted-eighth note, or quarter note).

The DD-3T features a direct output jack like the DD-3, but it's been moved next to the main output jack to make connections easier. Plugging a cable into the direct out converts the main out to delay only, allowing you to send wet and dry signals to different amps for wide, immersive sounds. And if your amp or switcher has a parallel effects loop, just connect a dummy plug to the direct out to mute the dry sound for effect-only blending.

The original DD-3 (and DD-2 before) included a forward-thinking Hold function, which allowed you to capture a sound up to 800 ms long, play it continuously, and jam over the top. Many years later, BOSS further developed this creative concept with the successful Loop Station products, which helped spawn the new musical style of live looping. The DD-3T includes the same Hold function as the DD-3, but it's been renamed "Short Loop" to reflect today's common usage.

Notes: 'Nude' super-elliptical stylus of just 7.6 x 18 microns (0.3 x 0.7 mil), cut and polished from a single homogeneous piece of diamond. This makes for a lower effective tip mass of improved rigidity, which in turn means its ability to retrieve high-frequency detail is dramatically improved when compared to the 'bonded' elliptical stylus alternative. While having its roots in a very familiar past, the passive 3-band EQ has been finely tuned for modern tones. While this style of tone shaping seems simple on the surface, it is deceptively complex and highly interactive - yet surprisingly easy to instantly dial in dozens of mind blowing sounds.

Want to elevate your sonic spirit to a higher level? Try running Zoar at higher voltage! Zoar can handle power up to 18v DC. Higher voltages will yield a different frequency response with more defined dynamics and a faster response. When powered at 18v, the range of clean tones are widened, dirty tones become punchier with better note articulation, low frequencies are tightened, higher frequencies will cover a broader spectrum without becoming harsh and the output volume nearly doubles! The experience is not unlike plugging into a wall of high wattage tube amplifiers!

This meticulously crafted box has six knobs that allow you to truly customize your sound with the Level, Weight, Gain, Bass, Middle, and Treble controls.

The Gain control on Zoar goes from the edge of break up all the way over the cliff into the crunchy, grinding abyss. The character of the distortion is heavily dependent on the setting of the Weight control as well as the pickup type and further fine-tuned by the EQ section.

Zoar's 3-Band EQ and Gain controls give you nearly unlimited options with great focus and sensitive precision, but the real powerhouse of Zoar is the Weight control. This control dictates the amount of low end that is passed into the circuit, thus controlling the entire character of the pedal. Simply dial in the 3-Band EQ to 12 o'clock and adjust the Weight to see how drastically it dictates your sound. From a mere clean boost to a high gain distortion to overdrive to the crispy Hi-Fi fuzz territory, this function gives you everything.

The Level control hits unity around noon, but this is dependent on where the other controls are set. In addition to controlling the output volume, it also plays a small part in controlling the voice of Zoar. By adjusting the Level control with any combination of EQ (boosting the frequency bands and cutting the output volume), you can achieve drastically different curves that have the feel of the more traditional low pass filter type tone control.

Notes: Unbelievable "talking" wah effects!

The BOSS AW-3 Dynamic Wah pedal gives guitarists a wide range of classic auto-wah and dynamic wah effects, plus a new "Humanizer" effect which can simulate human vowel sounds. A Bass input provides a variety of funky wah sounds for bass guitar.

Notes: MOOER, one of the world's leading guitar pedal innovators, has never been a stranger to octave pedals. The company has already enjoyed a successful response to its "Pure" and "Purer" Octave pedals, but the company's latest offering, the Tender Octaver X2, aims to take guitar octave capabilities to the next level.

Unlike the Pure and Purer Octave pedals which focus on pitch-shifting by the semitone, the Tender Octaver X2 is designed with a more specialized intention, focussing solely on octave shifts. When using the pedal, users can choose between two different octave shift modes, facilitating the addition of both subjacent and upper frequencies to a guitar signal. Both options have two dedicated rotatable dials, one for determining the volume of the added octave, and one for fine-tuning its tonal colour.

Both of these octave effects can be used independently and can be toggled on or off with their own easy-access footswitches, each paired with its own LED light to indicate its current activation status. Furthermore, both effects can also be used simultaneously, empowering guitarists to experiment with unique tri-octave guitar presets.

However, these subjacent and upper octave effects need not be explicit if the guitarist using the Tender Octaver X2 is looking for a more subtle octave manipulation. Thanks to the octave volume dials and the "Direct" dial for dry signal volume adjustment, anything from an explicit pitch shift to a subtle octave underlay can be achieved within the same pedal.

The pedal also contains 14 preset slots, allowing users to experiment and save their favourite parameter combinations with the "Save" button. In classic MOOER fashion, this has been presented in a minimalistic fashion, with 7 LED lights representing the full range of 14 save slots, lighting up blue or red depending on which half of the slots are being browsed. Each slot can be saved into or browsed through the two "Sub" and "Upper" footswitches, providing a further example of MOOER's dedication to making the most out of a minimalistic interface.

Using the pedal will be as simple as plugging it into the included DC 9V power supply, and plugging in a guitar with a standard 1/4" guitar cable. Notes: Ever since MOOER launched onto the guitar pedal scene in 2010, it has been producing pedals that have consistently pushed the boundaries of audio effect processing. 2023 has seen many impressive new entries, but the new Harmony X2 is set to sit at the top of Christmas lists this year. This device is a highly specialized and versatile harmonic shifting pedal, complete with every harmonic capability a guitarist could need for live performance and recording.

First and foremost, users of the Harmony X2 can select between the 12 pitches of the chromatic scale to customize their harmonies, with each pitch facilitating both major and minor scales. Once a root note has been chosen, a further 11 harmony modes enable further customization of harmonic intervals, including classics such as thirds, fifths, sevenths, and octaves.

Interestingly, the Harmony X2 is designed to specifically facilitate independent stereo harmonies. This means that guitarists can choose separate harmonic intervals for the left and right output, both of which can also have their volume adjusted independently by their dedicated dials. This allows the pedal to stand out from other harmonic pedals, facilitating harmonically rich tones that make optimum use of the stereo field.

After experimenting with these versatile parameters, guitarists can finely tune the intensity of the effect with the 'Dry' dial, determining the level of unprocessed guitar signal in the overall mix. Once satisfied, users can then save their favourite harmonic combinations with the 'Save' button, enabling them to return to their favourite preset at any time.

Despite the advanced nature of the Harmony X2 pedal, its use has been designed to be very simple. A dual foot-switch setup is provided to seamlessly toggle harmonic effects independently for both left and right pannings, and a simple and sleek combination of dials and LED indicators help the user clearly visualize their harmonic effects.

The Harmony X2 supports standard 1/4" inputs and outputs, with both containing two ports to facilitate both mono and stereo usage. However, these can interestingly be used in 'mixed' or 'individual' mode, enabling outputs that either correlate or merge the stereo inputs.
