Powerful USB 3 Performance

The front panel of the Fireface UFX III provides four high-performance XLR/TRS combo inputs for microphone, instrument and line signals, two stereo headphone jacks with +19 dBu output level, MIDI I/O, and a USB port.

In combination with the DURec function (Direct USB Recording), the USB port allows independent recording of selected input and output signals (up to 80 channels) to a connected USB storage medium.

The rear panel reveals the full connectivity of the Fireface UFX III. Besides another MIDI I/O, the two optical ADAT I/Os, an AES/EBU I/O, and eight balanced analogue outputs with line level (including XLR stereo monitor outputs) are available.

With the new Multi-Mode, the two ADAT I/Os can be used as separate optical SPDIF inputs and outputs in addition to the AES I/O. Furthermore, the Fireface UFX III offers an optical MADI interface (SC) with 64 bidirectional channels. The Word Clock connectors (BNC) work as additional coaxial MADI input and output if required.

Comprehensive MADI Connectivity

The Fireface UFX III opens the doors to a host of RME and 3rd party digital and analogue I/O solutions.

Expanding your analogue channel count, the ability to route/mix within the digital domain through numerous sources presents many flexible options. Multiple external MADI devices can also be connected in series.

To further enhance MADI flexibility, the Fireface UFX III boasts some typical RME-style features. For example in USB 2 mode, which is limited to 30 channels I/O (12 analogue plus 16 ADAT plus AES), the MADI I/O is still available via RME's integrated hardware mixer TotalMix FX.

Word Clock I/O (BNC) can be switched to MADI I/O (coaxial), and a special split mode even supports the use of both MADI I/Os simultaneously, with 32 channel each on optical and coaxial.

SteadyClock FS - FemtoSecond Clocking Technology

The RME Fireface UFX III also features RME's latest digital clocking and jitter rejection technology, 'SteadyClock FS'.

Originally developed for RME's award-winning ADI-2 Pro FS range of high-end converters, SteadyClock FS reduces intrinsic jitter to a new all-time low, when converting to and from analogue over all digital formats.

All clock modes provide excellent performance and astonishingly high-quality analogue conversion, allowing you to hear your mix exactly as it is.

What's more, RME's digital format conversion occurs without any loss to the signal, and SteadyClock FS ensures your sonic image will never experience any kind of degradation, ensuring the soundstage is replicated to the fullest depth and clarity.

Powerful Applications for Mixing, Monitoring and Measurement included

The Fireface UFX III comes with the TotalMix FX DSP mixer, offering comprehensive routing and monitoring options for all analogue and digital audio channels, as well as the DIGICheck Analyzer, which allows users to measure and analyze digital audio data feeds (in both directions) with maximum precision.

TotalMix FX can completely replace an external mixer, enabling the creation of multiple latency-free monitor mixes with EQ, Dynamics, Reverb and Delay for any outputs, including main monitors, submixes, and headphone mixes for musicians.

A free companion app, TotalMix Remote is a network-controllable remote for TotalMix FX, enabling control over interface's hardware mixer and effects from another Mac, PC or iPad, including wirelessly over Wi-Fi.

TotalMix Remote mirrors the current state of the host system on the iPad and Windows/Mac computers - the entire mixing state, the complete routing, all FX settings, up to the level meters, and everything in real time.

DC-Coupled Outputs - CV/Gate Voltage Control

Most audio interfaces are traditionally designed with what is called 'AC-coupled outputs', where capacitors are used to filter out any extreme low frequencies.

Whilst these frequencies are generally considered undesirable for audio - eating into headroom and potentially causing damage to other equipment - one instance where DC-coupling remains desirable is the world of modular synthesizers, where static or slow-moving signals are used for control over various parameters such as pitch note values or LFOs.

All of the Fireface UFX III's line-level outputs are fully DC-coupled, allowing for the sending of control voltages (CV) or Gate information to modular synthesizers (such as the popular Eurorack and Moog/MOTM/Synthesizers formats) and other studio hardware.

USB 3 Class Compliant Audio

The Fireface UFX III operates in two different modes: driver-based and Class Compliant.

Class Compliant mode is a standard that is natively supported by operating systems like Windows, Mac OSX and Linux distributions, allowing for Plug 'n' Play operation of the Fireface UFX III. No proprietary drivers are required, the device will be directly recognised when the CC firmware is loaded.

The Fireface UFX III is RME's first audio interface with full USB 3.0 support in Class Compliant Mode. This makes all channels available in driverless operation for Linux, Mac and iPadOS.

An iPad Pro with USB-C can manage up to 94 channels for recording and playback in TotalMix FX for iPad and on system level.

ARC USB Remote Control (sold separately)

The ARC USB is an optional remote control for the Fireface UFX III, along with all other RME devices that use TotalMix FX.

15 user-assignable illuminated buttons, one encoder wheel, and a TS jack (for connecting a foot switch) provide access to all of the most used functions of TotalMix FX.

The ARC USB can be connected directly to the Fireface UFX III via the second USB port on the back of the interface, or directly to a USB port on a Mac or PC.

Operating as a UAC 1 class device, the RME ARC USB is natively compatible with Windows and Mac OS X. As soon as it is present in the operating system, TotaIMix FX will automatically detect the ARC USB, and communicate with it via simple MIDI remote commands to control the UFX III.

DURec (Direct USB Recording)

DURec is an integrated digital recorder for all inputs and outputs directly to USB memory devices via the front USB port. The Fireface UFX III records on USB thumb drives or hard drives with up to 2 TB capacity.

The recording functionality is provided by the internal DSP, and is therefore independent from a connected Windows or Mac computer. The Direct USB Recording converts the Fireface UFX Series both into a stand-alone field recorder and a powerful multichannel live player for previous recordings, e. g. for virtual sound checks.

Live concerts, band rehearsals or spontaneous jam sessions can be directly recorded and played back from the medium - even completely stand-alone without computer or software.

Notes: "Entering the Forbidden Zone" is a film by Conor McGrady, edited by John Buckley, with the soundtrack, "The Dream of Reason Brings Forth Monsters" by Nurse With Wound. The film was originally developed as a video projection for Nurse With Wound performances scheduled for Russia and for the Shepherds Bush Empire, London, but which were not able to take place due to the onset of the pandemic in 2020. The duration of the film corresponds with the duration of the planned performances.

Imagery is taken from Conor McGrady's artworks probing aspects of power or control. These often stark images have been combined with film footage to create a loose narrative journey into the dark, violent underbelly of contemporary society, generating a sense of unease or disquiet.

Conor McGrady is an artist who has exhibited in New York, Chicago, Atlanta and Zagreb, Croatia. In 2022 his first solo museum exhibition "Entering the Control Zone" took place at the Museum of Fine Art, Split, Croatia. "Entering the Forbidden Zone" was premiered in conjunction with this exhibition.

Notes: YYS is a super useful spin on the 4x2 matrix mixer. Instead of comparatively boring unipolar attenuators to send to the destination channels, attenuverters were used. Notes: The Collective is a brand new fuzz pedal designed by Hungry Robot. The Collective is an over-designed, complex fuzz pedal, a true desert island fuzz designed to please the most ardent fuzz connoisseur. The Collective covers a lot of ground with plenty of external controls as well as over a DOZEN internal parameters to narrow down that perfect fuzz tone. The Collective is a pedal that requires and encourages exploration. The Collective has three fuzz circuits in one box. On top of that there is a 2-band State Variable Filter and a chatotic feedback loop.

Starting at the top of the pedal, the "Conventional" knob is a traditional sounding fuzz. This is meant to balance out the more chaotic fuzz tones and provides a bread-and-butter sound when you need it. The "Low Spectrum" and "High Spectrum" knobs are part of an active State-Variable Filter, similar to the one found on The Lumen. The "Synthetic" knob is a logic based CMOS fuzz that can be described using the words, velcro-ey, synth-ey, gate-ey, and glitch-ey. The "Pristine" knob allows you to blend in your clean signal when you need a bit of pureness to balance out the crazier sounds. On the left is the "Overload" knob. This controls the amount of signal let back through an internal feedback loop. The output of the fuzz is fed back into the input causing self-oscillation and some gnarly textures. Underneath the knob is a dedicated momentary footswitch to activate the feedback loop or you can latch the feedback loop ON by flipping the toggle switch up. On the right is the "Submerge" knob. This is a monophonic sub-octave fuzz. Similar to the "Synthetic" fuzz, this is also CMOS-based, so similar gated, unstable tones. The "Submerge" also has a dedicated momentary footswitch to add in the sub-octave with its own toggle switch that can latch the sub-octave.

Inspired by the legendary Moog CP3 mixer, the 713 tweaks the old-school discrete circuits into three stereo inputs and one mono channel, summing to stereo with adjustable feedback and clipping to add character.

ADDAC713 is the stereo version of ADDAC System's 703 Discrete Mixer.

Inspired by Moog's CP3 mixer, this is a fully discrete analogue mixer and it's not, by any means, your standard breakfast mixer, although it can behave like one.

This is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Despite its harmless looks there's a dark snarly soul behind that panel that wants to take your sounds into a realm of gritty gnarly growls.

This new version was initially thought of as a percussion mixer, with mono inputs and panning, to allow placing percussive voices in the stereo field, while keeping channel 4 in mono for low end sources like a kick drum or Bass. In the development process ADDAC System slightly changed this initial idea, adding stereo inputs for the first 3 channels, but still kept the 4th channel in mono.

All four [GAIN] controls go to extreme levels, the first 3channels also feature [PAN] controls. Feedback is used to overdrive the whole mix. As the control is turned clockwise the sound will be clipped harder until it goes completely off, this happens as feedback is increased the audio bias reference also moves up, at extreme levels it offsets the whole signal upwards until it completely goes above the top rail clipping the whole signal hence the resulting gate effect.

The [MASTER OUTPUT] sets the overall output gain of the mixer, the two leds monitor the audio output signal. The Soft clipping switch engages an anti-click circuit which adds a low pass before the output, the switch allows 3 states: Soft low pass / Off / Hard low pass.

Notes: The Aether is a modulating delay pedal.

The initial vision for the design of The Aether came shortly after the release of the Wardenclyffe Deluxe. The intention was to take design the philosophies and incorporate tonal characteristics that made the Wardenclyffe so special, but this time as a delay pedal.

At the heart of The Aether is a PT2399, tap tempo delay. It has the standard Echo, Feedback, and Time controls you would expect on any delay, but what makes it special is the Color, Saturation, and Degrade Controls. The Color toggle completely changes the character of the Aether and has two voices: Warm Analog and Bright Tape. The Saturation knob is a gain adjustment that overdrives the delay chip. The Degrade toggle adds lofi textures and artifacts to the delay line. The Degrade toggle removes a very vital section of the delay circuitry that keeps the delay stable with longer delay times. As you increase the delay time, the artifacts become more present and lofi.

The Aether uses a simple, but versatile modulation LFO core inspired by the Wardenclyffe, but with more features. The LFO cores sets it apart from other modulated delays out there. The speed of the modulation core can be set 3 different ways: Rate knob, tap tempo tact switch, and Sync toggle. When the Sync toggle is set to its middle position, the LFO can run at whatever speed you want. When the Sync toggle is in the up position it is synced to the delay time. When the Sync toggle is in the down position, it is synced to delay time, but in half-time for slower evolving moduation. The Shift knob determines the depth of the modulation; this has plenty of range in case you want to get really obscene. The Stray toggle changes the LFO from a typical Sine wave to a Slewed Random waveform. Creative exploration of the modulation section of The Aether is strongly encouraged. The way the delay rate and LFO rate interact with each other can yield very creative results.

ILLUMINATOR accepts all types of CV signals in the range from 3 to 20 volts. Each of the eight channels contains an individual trimmer pot that defines the sensitivity of the channel. It not only adjusts the optimal input range for connected CV sources, but it can also set the brightness of each LED strip. Default factory setting for all trimmer pots is made for the range of 5V, compatible with most gear out of the box.

Applying bipolar CV is also possible but the negative part of the signal will not light up the LEDs (everything below zero will be processed as zero).

CV signals can be connected to ILLUMINATOR using Eurorack mini-jacks or PULSAR-23-like pins and alligator clips. PSU DC IN and all outputs are standard DC sockets 5.5×2.1mm center plus.

The vibrant sound of pulse width modulation or the roaring sound of animated supersaws are a small part of a much larger sonic space that the Triphase Oscillator is built to discover.

The Triphase Oscillator produces three different sawtooth waves at the exact same pitch but with independent phase control. These are blended in a bipolar CP3-type mixer, giving a rich waveform at the output. By blending in a wave with a positive polarity, you reinforce in-phase harmonics; by blending a wave with a negative polarity, you reduce in-phase harmonics. The phase differences between the waves distribute the harmonics from in-phase to out-of-phase. The result is a comb-filter effect, like the effect produced by an acoustic reflection, with notches and peaks spaced evenly throughout the frequency range. Conventional pulse width modulation can be obtained by blending two sawtooth waves with equal but opposite polarity. Supersaw-like behavior can be obtained by using phase CV with the same polarity for all three waves. But many other interesting spaces can be reached. For example, by setting the phases correctly you can cancel out the first harmonic and get a saw an octave higher, or cancel both the first and the second harmonic, giving you a saw an octave and a fifth above the fundamental frequency. Modulation then brings back these canceled harmonics.

The Triphase Oscillator is completely analog, built around a sawtooth core that is functionally stable and accurate but sonically alive. It has linear FM on all three waves, and an excellent hard sync that can create shredding harmonic sweeps. The CP3 type mixer gives good distortion at higher levels, allowing you to blend three 5-volt-peak waves without worrying about headroom. All CV functions at audio rate. With an LFO driving the phases, it can easily replace the classic analog three oscillator setup, and in this configuration it's one of the fattest things you have ever heard. But the Triphase oscillator is much more than a thickener, and can just as easily produce thin reedy sounds or subtly shifting harmonic drones.

At the heart of Drumlogue is a flexible, easy-to-use, and extremely powerful 64-step sequencer. This makes it easy to create complex patterns and polyrhythms that elevates the music creation process. With the clear OLED display, it's also easy to follow and edit your sequences visually.

Effects and customisation

Drumlogue has high-quality effects across three categories that can be used simultaneously: delay, reverb and master effects. The send amounts for delay and reverb effects are set independently, with multiple return points also available. Master effects add that final polish to the sound and can be bypassed on a per-part basis, meaning it's possible to send the effect to specific audio parts. A sidechain bus is also available to the master effects section.

Drumlogue has an audio input, so you can process other instruments through Drumlogue's effect chain, making it an ideal companion for your studio setup.

Connectivity

With a wide range of I/O, Drumlogue can be integrated seamlessly with your rig. A USB-A port supports connectivity with USB MIDI class-compliant devices, meaning volumes can be controlled with the faders on a nanoKONTROL 2, or sounds triggered by the pads on a nanoPAD 2.
It almost goes without saying that Drumlogue easily syncs with other gear via the MIDI in/out, sync in/out, or via USB MIDI.

Four individual outputs are available, in addition to headphone and main L/R. Any part can be assigned to any output, allowing for expanded routing versatility with external processing and multi-track integration.

Drumlogue is incredibly easy to use - having been designed with simplicity and accessibility in mind. Notes: LED Meter is a handy utility module designed to show audio levels. Three color versions are available:

- green colour with yellow-red peak segments.
- all blue colour
- all yellow colour

There are total 30 led segments, each one roughly corresponds to 1 dB of level, so it is 30 dB of measurement level available with this module.
The module has an input for the signal to be displayed, and its buffered copy is sent to the output for further processing, so no external splitter is needed.
Two trimmers are accessible via holes on the front panel: left trimmer adjusts brightness and right trimmer is used for the level adjustment. So the module can represent full scale signals ranging from 1 V to 12 V.
There is operation mode jumper on the back side. When the jumper is installed - bipolar operation is active, and when the jumper is removed - ordinary audio meter is active.

Notes: The Erica Synths Envelope Generator 2 is a re-triggerable, looping envelope generator with some unconventional features that are very useful for experimental setups. What sets the Black EG2 apart from other envelope generators is its optional GATE LENGTH setting, which allows for generating full ADSR envelopes even if a short trigger is used at the input. Likewise, in LOOP mode, the module outputs a full ADSR envelope instead of a classical AD envelope. The gate length is both manual and CV controlled, which allows for using this envelope generator in compact modular setups controlled by trigger sequencers only.

LOOP/SINGLE

Select between SINGLE SHOT or LOOP modes. When the internal gate is o , the rise and fall times are set via the A and R knobs. When the internal gate is on, all knobs have an e ect on the envelope shape.

The LED gives visual feedback on the envelope state.

Engage the internal gate and you have a full ADSR envelope in loop mode and with a trigger applied to the trigger input in single mode.

TRIGGER

Notes: Crass was the anarcho-punk face of a revolutionary movement founded by radical thinkers and artists Penny Rimbaud, Gee Vaucher, and Steve Ignorant. When punk ruled the waves, Crass waived the rules and took it further, putting out their own records, films, and magazines and setting up a series of situationist pranks that were dutifully covered by the world's press. Not just another iconoclastic band, Crass was a musical, social, and political phenomenon.
