Review: After the uncertainty that has surrounded the Fabric Empire in recent months, it's heartening to see a new Fabric Live mix drop. At the controls for the fifty second edition is Dublin D&B don Zero T, with a selection that veers from the confines of junglist workouts into dubstep, house and ends with some hip-hop tinged drum and bass. It's the familiar vocals of a legendary rapper that open Zero T's mix with the bass atmospherics of Paradox's "A Certain Sound" being taken over by Jeru The Damajah's guest spot on the ruff VIP mix of "Watch Your Step" from Kabuki.

Review: The Young Echo collective have been causing waves in their hometown of Bristol for some time, and here get a chance to enhance their reputation further afield with their debut album. In parts dark, paranoid, claustrophobic, enveloping and unquestionably stoned (a particular trademark of Bristol productions), Nexus drifts between clandestine atmospherics (see the befuddled ambience of opener "Radial Sheaves"), clicky post trip-hop (the modern day Massive Attack vibes of "Jupiter Rises" and "Nexus"), calming IDM, horizontal garage ("Blood Sugar") and fuzzy, experimental hip-hop ("Slow Jam"). It's a fine representation of their atmospheric approach, and a pretty nifty debut all told.

Review: Ever since his "Afterglow" single stormed the pop charts in 2013, Mark Wilkinson has been playing in drum & bass's big leagues. The release of Hypnotic, his sophomore set, is therefore something of an event in D&B circles. Typically, it's an energetic, thrill-a-minute ride that joins the dots between the musicality and radio-friendly hooks of electronic pop music, the weightiness of underground drum and bass and the festival-friendly rush of familiar dance anthems. There's no denying that Wilkinson is a talented producer and on Hypnotic, he more than proves the point. While serious heads may want to look elsewhere for thrills, there are enough moments that should appeal to both DJs and casual listeners.

Review: In a little under three years, Wilkinson has gone from working in Ronnie Wood's favourite garden centre (true) to scoring a top-10 hit on the UK singles chart with "Afterglow", one of 2013's biggest drum & bass anthems. It goes without saying, then, that this debut album for Ram (with major label backing) has been one of the most hotly anticipated D&B sets of the year. For the most part, it delivers. While there's little in the way of subtlety, Lazers Not Included is fun, entertaining and energetic, with enough depth and musicality to impress the heads as well as the rave kids. Wilkinson is particularly good at creating rush-inducing anthems (see the soaring "Take You Higher"), but his bassier explorations, including P Money hook-up "Heartbeat", are also worthy of attention.

Review: Since debuting the Voodoom project in 2015, Bong-Ra, Deformer and regular vocalist Scapu Lox have developed a niche as drum & bass culture's foremost purveyors of junglist horror-core. As you'd expect, they've continued to explore this niche on second album "Sacrificial Artefacts", a probably dark, creepy, weighty and full-throttle excursion full to bursting with wild, sharply edited drum breaks, clandestine electronic sounds, twitching breakcore style edits, horror organs and growling, manipulated vocals. Throw in a few fizzing rave riffs, booming basslines and occasional nods towards jungle's ragga-centric roots and you've got a set that bristles with giddy, wide-eyed and occasionally maniacal intent.

Review: On his first album for Hospital Records - and third solo set in total - Rouen Wilkins AKA Voltage has created a more widescreen musical vision than anything he's previously releases. Balance Over Symmetry begins with a sparkling, synth-heavy tribute to mid-80s NYC freestyle ('So Close'), and ends with a weighty, dubstep style collaboration with Demolition Man ('The Life of a DJ (Rockers Mix)'); in between, the fast-rising producer breathlessly rushes between typically heavy and ear-catching, club-focussed drum & bass jams, revivalist ragga-jungle workouts (Sweet Irie hook-up 'Natty Love'), stunningly atmospheric ambient interludes (see the spacey 'Consciousness'), immersive experimental D&B ('Moonshine'), and up-beat synth-wave goodness ('Endless Dreaming', with Belgian Goddess). It's an impressive achievement all told, and an album that's well worth checking out.

Review: The last 12 months have been a boon for fans of Luke Vibert, with the veteran Cornishman delivering a killer acid album for Hypercolour, and a slick, melodious set of disco-inspired jams under his Kerrier District alias. Here he returns to regular home Planet Mu with another typically entertaining set inspired by classic British electronic music. Utilising his battery of vintage music-making machines, Vibert giddily doffs a cap to early '90s intelligent techno, rave-era hardcore, bleep, Chicago acid and "braindance", occasionally veering off track via easy listening-inspired future jazz, Wagon Christ style hip-hop head-nodders (the title track, which doffs a cap to a forgotten, mid-90s remix he did for Ninja Tune) and squidgy, synth-propelled mutant electrofunk.

Review: Venetian Snares aka Aaron Funk has grown vastly in popularity since last year's astounding 'Rossz Csillag Allat Szeletett'. This album is the true follow up to his Hungarian masterpiece. It consists of 10 tracks written by Aaron over the last 18 months and shows Funk’s versatility with form and mastery of his tools. Melody is at the fore, recalling 2004’s 'Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Unfolding', but the rhythms are still jackhammer heavy and wildly fluctuating. Fantastic artwork by Arnold Steiner of AS1projects. Previous press: NME: "Venetian Snares is to Music what Satan is to Christianity: a profoundly malevolent force who looks great, intimidates a lot of boring people and is, despite everything, insanely popular". Review: What would we do without represses? Well, for one we wouldn't have the 2006 infamous album form pioneer Venetian Snares. As per usual, this one's got it all: the jungle psychedelia of "Gentlemen" right to the deranged neo-rave breaks of "Kyokushin" and the glithchy drum battles present in the oddy coined "Poo Yourself Jason". What can we say? It's just one of those things that needs to be in your collection - be it on vinyl or CD.
