Loxy & Ink - "Irrelevant" (6:26)
Ink, Loxy & Resound - "Token" (5:39)
Review: This might be a new Metalheadz 12" but it has a throwback, vintage feel to it. Part of that is no doubt because of the three legendary artists it involves in Ink, Loxy & Resound. Loxy & Ink go first and serve up the superbly space-age sounds this label has always been known for on 'Irrelevant'. On the flipside, things get a little darker. Resound joins the fray for 'Token' and sinister sounds and menacing bass prevail. These are ageless tunes that will unite new and old heads alike. Essential stuff from the ever-green Metalheadz.

Picture This (5:05)
Etched Within (4:33)
Ravens Call (6:56)
Hessian (6:34)
Review: SB81 first appeared on Metalheadz back in 2013 with the Dancer In The Dark / Back To 33 12, and since then the Wolverhampton mainstay has kept up cosy relations with Goldie's D&B temple. Picking up where 2018's Future Point EP left off, SB81 goes in on four detailed, cinematic cuts that show how much space for world-building there really is around razor-sharp breakbeats. 'Picture This' is drenched in dramatic poise, while the beats fall more like crunchy electronica than run of the mill D&B. 'Etched Within' has a sweeter demeanour, but it's no less richly rendered. The production and composition are absolutely next level throughout this record, proving SB81 is still in a league of his own, and that Metalheadz still know how to sign a deadly record.

Even So (with Outrage) (4:48)

Echoes (with Scale) (5:00)
Mindrumming (with Outrage) (5:00)
Review: It's collabo time! Metalheadz mysterious Sonar's Ghost links up with a few old friends for four slabs of incendiary, ice cold slammage. Outrage (AKA Nomine), Acid Lab and Scale are all involved and the goods are nothing but high grade. Each cut hits hard and tickles the deepest corners and quarters of your soul but special highlights include the glacial tension and funk of 'Echoes' (with Scale), the jazzier twists and turns of 'Mindrumming' and 'Even So' (both with Outrage) and the beautiful horn weaving futurism of 'Is Jazz Is' with Acid Lab. What a crucial collection.

ZegaFunk (7:16)
Tiger Moth (7:02)
Kalibrate (4:57)
An Uncharted Vision (4:55)
Review: J:Kenzo is known more as a dubstep pioneer, but it's always refreshing to hear producers such as him break away from their pre-established style - in this case, the revolutionary sound is drum n' bass. 'Zegafunk' locks in four new heaters for Metalheadz (it's his debut for the legendary drum n' bass label), establishing a no-nonsense throwback to the earliest incarnations of jump-up and techstep, only repackaged for the present day. In the words of Metalheadz, there's a real classic feel to it, with the unendingly dystopian and robotic sound of late 90s drum n' bass shining through; 'Tiger Moth' and 'Kalibrate' are cases in point, with conveying moods of unswung menace and malicious awe.

Nookie & Ruth Royall - "Part Of Me" (3:32)
Future Forever (6:31)
In Love (6:04)
Over & Over (6:07)
Review: One of the most GOATed of GOATs, Nookie requires absolutely no introduction. And his fist album in over 15 years is an absolutely massive deal this year. Especially when it's on Metalheadz. And especially when it runs the whole Nookie gamut from house to jungle and features the supreme tones of songwriter du jour Ruth Royall. Here are just four examples as Headz gives us a little tease under the vinyl spotlight. The gutsy soul of 'Part Of Me', the timeless Chicago-style vibes of 'In Love' and the beguiling futurism of 'Over & Over', long may Nookie continue to reign.

Review: Toronto besties Gremlinz and Jesta have been plotting, scheming and collaborating their entire adult lives - off and on - and releasing together consistently since 2018, but The Lee Garden Historical Preservation Society is their most significant creation to date. An ice cold web of tales and textures that digs deep into drum & bass music's most uncompromising and future-focused aesthetics, over 13 tracks they dig deep into a range of influences - techno ('Andromeda'), jungle ('Destro') and elements of grunge and trip hop on cuts such as 'Vermin' and 'After Dinner Coffee Face' are all in the mix but they forever keep the sonics tight and consistent. Metalheadz through and through.

Sting Blade (4:13)
Nymfo & Martyn - "What's Happening?" (5:09)
No Choice (4:55)
Review: Oh gosh. Last spotted on the mothership label in 2015 on Mikal's "Where They At" EP, Danger Dutchman Nymfo returns to Metalheadz with his first full EP for the label. It's every bit as heavy and badass as you'd hope it to be. "Sting Blade" rolls out with a skinny-fit break and a bassline so flabby and bulbous it folds over the edges. It's backed by two more monoliths; "What's Happening" sees fellow Dutchy Martyn join the action with just a touch of classic Blue Note style jazziness. Finally, "No Choice" settles the matter on some 23rd century twisted Optical style funk. Easily one of Nymfo's finest moments so far (which is saying something).

Review: It's another Headz special! Bristol's finest Utopian, the man like Mako, delivers his debut solo album and it's every bit as deep, detailed and sense-slapping as you'd expect it to be. From the brilliantly brutalist "One Reality" to the rave-melting halftime switching "Flip It" via the bouncy harmonics of "Hoxton Home" and the depth plunge bassline and Subtitles-style rawness of the stripped back arrangement on "Offline", like all Metalheadz albums - and indeed Mako productions - this is a properly considered, thoughtful and detailed body of work. Essential.

Review: Having cut his teeth on IM:LTD, Warm and DSCI4 it was only a matter of time before the ice slab bruises and shards of Quartz crashed down on the Headz mothership. Three tracks in total (with two collabs with Survey and Gremlinz) every cut strikes the soul... The pulsating electrical current of "Hall Of Mirrors", the vicious halftime data spikes and caustic code cascades of "Oblong Druid" (with Gremlinz) and the stripped back subdued jazz introspection of "End Title" (with Survey) all hit hard.

Review: 2019 sees Metalheadz turn 25 years old, but Goldie's iconic label continues to turn out razor sharp EPs from talents old and new. HLZ is the latest to take things forward with this expertly executed four tracker. Featuring an array of raw, uncompromising tunes it spans a wide range of moods: "Eternal" is a brain frying stepper, "Ultradogs" is more a deeper, headier, atmospheric and cerebral track while "Hidden Memory" mixes up devastating bass with icy hi hats and snaking synths. "Hyperion" closes out with soulful vocals drifting above clattering drum work and will take you into the next dimension.

Review: Metalheadz might be celebrating 25 years in the game in 2019, but they are not spending too much time looking back. Instead, Goldie's vital label continues to serve up forward looking drum & bass, this time from Jem One. A year after his debut on the label he's back with another varied three tracker. Form the swirling pads of liquid roller "Lotus" to the more angsty, tightly coiled drums of old school jungle cut "Transpose" and on to darkened minimal stepper "The Hardcore", there is a lot to love here.

Review: The Metalheadz train shows no signs of slowing down despite being well into its third decade. This tasty four tracker comes from the combined creative minds of Zero T and Beta 2 and they come through in style with a modern-day reproduction of the vintage Metalheadz sound we all know and love. Tough drums, sprinkled with plenty of future soul and devastating bass, "Misdemeanour" in particular is prickly yet emotional stuff while "In My Head" brings a dose of joyful soul and "Dead Cert" ends on a more angsty tip.

Hey You (4:57)
Review: A year has passed since Script and Survival last blessed us with their rugged wares but the wait, as always, has been worth it. Four tracks of authentic, bulletproof block-knockery, it's the sound of two men who love the 90s rudiments as much as they love their machines; "Stalker" lives up to its creepy name, all dark, creepy and persistent. The tension-wrought "Hide In Plain Sight" takes a cinematic twist with its sample, drawn out strings and grainy synth squiggles, while "Sleep Talk" takes us down a much darker, tribal route that nods more towards the Samurai style of the craft. Last but definitely not least, "Hey You" finishes the EP with the most emotional, soul-stirring piece of the EP. Lingering pianos, unhurried, deep-breath pads and bassline so warm and voluptuous you want to live in it; like all Scar releases it leaves us hungry for more... Let's hope they don't leave it a year to wait.

Review: Metalheadz crack open a fresh bottle of 2019 and spray it all over the shop with the effortless class of Grey Code. Previously spotted on Dispatch and Demand, here the Bristol producer levels up once again with his broadest, most startling release to date. If the big synth flourishes of "Pearl" don't knock you off your feet with cosmic glee, the orchestral swoops and drama of "King's Rock" most certainly will. You'll stay KO'd for the duration of the EP as he continues to draw out more science; "Saturn" is pure tech wizardry that nods respectfully to the late 90s while "Ethics" is a powerful intergalactic trip with futurist technoid elements. Outstanding D&B craftmanship here. No reprieve, no surrender.

Four hurricanes compounded in tune form, "Lunar City" rips the floor from beneath you with its booming sub and Marcus-esque raising sense of tension, "Heaton Dramaz" takes the technoid turbine factor to a whole new hair-raising level while "Warriors" kicks hard with a soundsystem vibe that hits all the spots Digital does. Finally, "Eyes" close the EP with some soul-shattering breaks and humanised textures from the stars. Massive.

The Rain (6:31)
Into The 90's (5:25)
Review: Oh no!! Quite possibly the biggest Metalheadz 12" by Photek sees a brand-spanking new repress and, thankfully, label head Goldie has decided not to mess with the original centre-circles; they still have that inimitable, headphone-wearing skull looking as menacing as ever. But, this is all about the music anyway, and these three tracks have shaped entire generations of d&b producers; "Consciousness" is just about the deepest slice of tech-jungle you can find, "The Rain" is a personal favourite of ours and contains a sublimely placed sample from the much coveted Blade Runner film, while "Into The 90s" is a touch of downtempo class, a prototypical Photek charmer in all its glory. They just don't make 'em like they used to, so don't miss this!

On The Roof (6:30)
The Flute Tune (6:10)
Review: Biff! Some much needed Metalheadz repress action, right here, but none of that contemporary gear - this is straight-up tech madness from the mid 90s golden days! Brothers Mark and Jason Goodings played an important part in the label's earlier years under the name Hidden Agenda, and their 12"s are now much sought after on the second-hand market, so it's a real treat to see them back on our shelves, and in their original format! "Is It Love?" is a beauty, spinning jazz samples on their heads and churning out militant jungle drums in the process, with "On The Roof" proving even deeper than it was over twenty years ago, and "The Flute Tune" being as dark, moody and psychedelic as the day we first heard it. MASSIVE repress.

Review: Responsible for influencing every card-carrying jungle craftsman since 1996, Adam F's "Metropolis" is one of drum & bass's true blueprint tunes. 21 years old and still sounding future (both aesthetically and technically), this set such a high benchmark that DJs still talk about the first time they heard this in the cutting house to this day. If you haven't already got this on vinyl it's nothing short of essential.
