With Rubi Dan's inimitable chatter and chubby roll on the bass, "Zunga" is an instant 'sing along' smasher, saturated in reggae juice and sun dried on the Jamaican Blue Mountains. "No No No", meanwhile, sees the Dawn Penn classic go under the expert knives of the Serial Killaz. Bulging with bulbous bass, the skank factor is set to max and the vocal is positioned perfectly in the mix... You really can't fail with this.

Review: Gone but absolutely not forgotten, Marcus Intalex still feels present in the drum & bass scene, such is his massive legacy. Given how much original copies still fetch, it feels right for his very first solo 12" on Soul:r to get a fresh airing and put paid to the sharks. 'Zumbar' leads the way on this two-tracker, carrying some of those ascendant Rhodes notes and dusty brass stabs that made for a new angle on soulful D&B. Sharper than liquid, and a touch fatter than the Full Cycle crew, Intalex struck on something special here. The same goes on the flip with 'Temperance', which leans in on the synths for an amen powered peak time rusher that hasn't aged a bit.

Review: Rezzett may not be the most high profile name amongst the swelling discography of The Trilogy Tapes, but last year's self-titled 12? for Will Bankhead's label was arguably one of the imprint's highlights to date. The three tracks were a skewed combination of scratchy rhythms and frazzled melodies that took the description "lo-fi" to new places. It's up against some stiff competition but Zootie might be the finest looking TTT so far with numerous hand screen printed stamps adorning both the outer and inner sleeves. It's matched musically too as both "Zootie" and the accompanying "Yavas mix" applies Rezzett's blasted sonics and applies them to some wondrous ambient chords with the former throwing in some speaker blowing hardcore rhythms too.

Review: Hessle Audio continued their excellent form this year and introduced us to the new talents of Bandshell along with dropping that too-good-to-be-played, Objekt 12". Their long-time favourite, Elgato returned to Hessle Road with this stunning 2-tracker and its opener, "Zone" is a pleasingly odd bass rhythm, placing its deranged vocal firmly on top of the detached percussion elements swaying alongside the shimmering injections of lower frequencies. On the flip we have "Luv Zombie", another gorgeously far-out experimentation by our man Elgato, where his fast-paced drum shuffles meet distant waves of harmonics. This comes with a highly recommended stamp as per usual!

Review: De Lichting member Human Space Machine makes his debut on Re.st with four uncompromising techno / broken beat fusions. Each cut writhing and exploring a different tempo and style but painting from the same palette, 'Zone' sets the technoid/D&B tone while 'Unmade' hurls us deep into the dubby abyss. Flip for more highly contrasting dynamics as 'Sigh' goes full-on ploughman 4x4 while 'Slo' lives up to its name in a deep and dreamy way. Get lost in the zone!

Review: DNA step back in this summer with their first release in some time. This second instalment comes from a new artist, DJ Quantize. Sides A & B show the deepness of Quantize's music and production. Look out for much more to come from this artist, who continues to develop his unique sound in preparation for future releases on DNA Recordings. A side: 'Zombie's haunting intro and 'euro' styled sounds lead to a deep tribal led roller. Is this trance on steroids, or some futuristic heavyweight ambient Jungle or is there no way of typecasting this type of D&B yet? Listen to make your own opinion. AA side: 'Blue' blends both analogue & synthetic sounds perfectly to lead this piece of music to its drop. Simple in design & arrangement, Quantize's sound is consistent. His use of atmospheric sounds & deep dubwise basslines are trademarks that signify his sound & Blue does not stray from these musical attributes.

Review: Canadian producer Zodiac (nee Jeremy Rose) was allegedly uncredited for his production on a record by The Weeknd, but now returns (fully credited) with his own EP for Jacques Greene's Vase label. What we get is five slices of exquisitely produced 'cerebral-hop', if you will. "GirlGirlGirl", basically takes an early 90s R&B sample and slows it right down, getting to a real grind pace, before draping it in silk sheets of seductive synths. "Come" is a bleepy, sleepy, slow jam with a Maxwell-style vocal from Jesse Boykins III. "Loss Config" is an unusual instrumental featuring a classical piano motif and "138", with its hands-in-the-air melodies and lilting beats, ends things on high. Classy stuff!

Review: French ragga vibes abound as Krak In Dub switches between vibrant fly-by-night skankwise festival D&B on "La Revolocion" and "Line Dem Up", a deep, swaggering digi-dancehall groove. Conscious, chorus-heavy and instantly likeable, your dancefloor will instantly feel they've known them forever. And for good measure, Murray Man has provided a slamming D&B mix of "Line Dem Up". Switching between dub breaks and something a lot darker and mechanical, you can file it under 'ragga ravaged tear up'.

Naturally, it's a hefty launch release: "Zion" is straight out of 1993, all head-twisted amens, crazy-sharp edits and evocative dub vocals. "Bad Bwoy Talk" brings us back to the future on a sleazy bubbly halftime roll and full badman chats from YT and Solo Banton. A full jungle history lesson in two tunes; few artists do it like Digital.
