Review: Chow Down serves up its second release with the adventurous grime exploits of Fallow and DJ Chalice, twisting out all kinds of audacious bass shapes that would set the dance alight at parties such as Boxed. Fallow takes the A side with confidence, fresh from a release on Blood Frenzy, and "Blitz" shows the emergent producer is taking no prisoners with a hail of bullets and haunting Indian classical samples. "Northern Don" is a more wobbly synth-rich beat, while "Operation Dark Fruit VIP" amps up the grime strings. DJ Chalice has a lighter touch, bringing in some sunnier melodics and embracing the RnB influences on "Artois Anthem".

Review: Tempa drop another single from Skream's 2010 all conquering Outside The Box album in the shape of the awesome "Where You Should Be". Whilst the track features the vocal talents of Sam Frank, they are so heavily subjected to vocoder that his lyrics meld into the spiralling array of keyboard hooks and twilight tinged arpeggiated synth lines - with suitably woozy results. On the flip Digital Soundboy boss and all round legend Shy FX drops a killer remix which starts with the Mtume "Juicy" riddim before switching to more familiar rolling junglist pressure ably assisted by some sweet additional female vocals. Watch out for that half time drop! Also look out for a second all remix twelve with a suitably heavyweight line up.

Review: For the latest volume in its ongoing Rollers mix series, V Recordings offshoot Chronic has asked experienced Brazilian DJ/producer L-Side to handle mixing duties. He naturally does a fine job, working his way through 21 tracks from such rising talents as Jaybee, Command Strange, Serum, Fiaco and Euphorics. The mix is naturally slick, with L-Side selecting cuts that tend towards the spacey and rolling, whilst retaining the punchy D&B breaks and cyber-sonic sub-bass that Chronic is renowned for. Highlights and plentiful, and include the revivalist jungle riddims of "Meditate" by Need For Mirrors, the bruising sub-bass and hip-hop vocal snatches of L-Side's "Soundclash", and the unstoppable weightiness of Command Strange's "Unlimited Bass".

Review: Cooking up a storm since 2009: for Ingredients' 50th feast they've recruited a collection of chefs old and new. Spirit cooks the starters. A life-long friend of the label since its earliest releases, his "Interstate" tickles the tastebuds with a pan-fried reese and peppered snare shots. Response and his brother Pilskin cook up a hearty main; detuned synths served on a bed of crushed drums and an old school reduction and a light spraying of jungle foam. Finally the bossman Clive teams up with Response for a bitter sweet desert with burnt crumb bass gloom and devilled drum roll pastries. Sonically scrumptious.

"Expose" is a deep breath stepper, all lean, naked but shrouded in mystery. "Clandestine" takes us deep inside the drums as precision-tuned cymbals splash and shimmer while the kicks and snares punch with crisp energy. Watch out as the track unfolds... Review: Level 2 and DJ Chap continue to demolish the dance with their currently-spotless Alibi project; "Trunk" is a conga-weaving roller with all the hallmark ingredients of a timeless classic heads-down roller; tight percussion, creeping basses and subtle bars from Coppa, everything about it is deep, dark and dangerous. "No Escape", featuring fellow Sao Paulo artist Nitri, is more of a late night fast lane stepper. Laced with techy textures but driven by a precision groove break and heaps of space, it's a smack back to the darker sounds of the early 2000s before everything went hyper. Extremely well played.

Review: Show stopping awesomeness from the criminally under-prolific Breakage: "Treading Water" is very reminiscent of La Roux's "Going In For The Kill"... Powerful chords, minimal dynamics and an emphatic vocal that seeps genuine sentiment, it's strong enough to get the biggest non-smokers in the dance raising lighters they didn't even know they had. For added guts flip for Breakage's very own VIP. Old school breakbeats a-go-go; this will slice a roof clean off any venue on the planet. Massive.

Review: It's been five years since James 'Breakage' Boyle last treated us to full-length exploration of his dusty, dubby, enveloping musical world. Given the half-decade gap, it's perhaps unsurprising that When The Night Comes in is a more mature set than previous explorations. While rooted in the kind of post-dubstep, trap and half-step drum & bass with which he's best known, there are nods to bustling, bass-heavy house, glitch-hop, and modern soul, with a range of vocalists swinging by to lend a hand. For all the enjoyable eclecticism, it's notable that the album's standout moment, "I On U", is a roughneck exercise in pounding jungle revivalism that doffs a cap to the early days of liquid D&B.

Review: As a follow-up to Will Saul's exclusive-packed - and generally well received - DJ Kicks set, !K7 has decided to reissue two of the most celebrated tracks, with fresh new remixes. On the A-side you'll find Jabru and Joel Culpepper's "Church" - a decidedly organic, soulful chunk of deep house/UK garage fusion - with accompanying Zed Bias rub. The UKG veteran gives it a bouncy, bassy two-step makeover, wisely retaining Culpepper's brilliant vocals. Flip for Will Saul and Komon's spacey "Two For One", where dreamy flourishes rub shoulders with throbbing electronics and delicate house beats. The remix is provided by Appleblim, who adds a new layer of percussive toughness - in a bruk-meets-two-step style - whilst retaining the warmth of the original.
