Review: Club Night Club is a new Brooklyn label born out of an event series, and they're positioning themselves squarely in the leftfield of the contemporary techno scene with a wild EP from the lesser-spotted Herron. The Manchester-based artist has slipped out a few scattered releases over the past six years, from EPs on the meandyou label he helps run, and one big drop for Peder Mannerfelt's label. This fierce return to the fray shows the producer pushing a tough yet supple strain of mutant, stepped techno with soundsystem blood pumping in its veins. It's ludicrously high-end, swimming in needlepoint sound design and yet still rough as hell, and it comes very highly recommended.

Review: When Hospital Records launched some 16 years ago, it was primarily to focus on the more soulful side of drum & bass. While London Elektricity's imprint is now about so much more than that, many of its' releases still bristle with an expansive soulfulness. This mixed, mid-price, two-disc affair pays tribute to the label's soulful side, delivering sinewy, string-laden gems, vocal anthems, and liquid D&B classics from the likes of SPY, High Contrast, Nu:Tone, Logistics, Danny Byrd, Phuturistix and, of course, London Elektricity. Who mixed it isn't revealed, but they've done a great job; both discs ripple with melody, emotion and, of course, skittering dancefloor rhythms. This is Fast Soul Music, after all.

Review: On their latest full-length, Bournemouth-based jump-up junglists turned breakbeat badmen Aquasky invite us to Raise The Devil with a typically boisterous and party-friendly selection of original cuts. As usual, expect an all-out assault on the senses, hips and feet, with tracks variously touching on punchy breaks, floor-friendly dubstep wobblers, ragga-influenced bouncers, bowel-bothering jungle and even a big hefty dollop of piano house. Plenty of mates and scene veterans pop along to lend a hand, from gnarled mic men the Ragga Twins, Daddy Freddy and Tenor Fly to and turntable whizz Mr Thing. Party on, dudes.

Review: Breakbeat Paradise return with a collection of remixes of Swiss eight piece funk orchestra GMF (aka Grand Mother's Funck) featuring Jurassic 5's own Akil The MC. No less than six revisions are on show here, from Mr. Confuse, Breakbeat Junkie, Zamali, Farside, Kalumenos and label chief BadboE, who turns in possibly the best tweak of the lot, turning "Do" into a beefy breaks jam with killer filtering and bucket loads of funk. Be sure to check German producer Mr. Confuse's decidedly slinky take on "Do", and DJ Farside's drum and bass reinterpretation of "Party All Night".

Review: Brazil's DJ Marky is one of the few D&B guys still nurturing and developing his sound. It's a delicate mix of exotic, samba-filtered melodies and stunningly beautiful drum arrangements. The title track is exactly what we like to see: shuffling drums, esoteric melodies and suave lyrics. On the flip, "Love Affair" is similarly enchanting and Marky once-again proves everyone wrong by doing what he loves best. TIP!

Review: After an almost constant stream of great singles, EP's and remixes over the past six months, Nick Thayer's album finally drops and it definitely lives up to the hype. Encompassing all the colours of the rave rainbow (breakbeat, electro, hip-hop and dubstep all fused together), it's a full on party album from start to end and a real triumph for the Australian Dj.
The Daft Punk-isms of "Bring On The Drums" kick things off with style. Thayer has a knack of making any tempo work, and so even a moderately slow tune like this one still gets filled out and beefed up so well that it's impossible not to throw yourself around after seconds. "Alarm Bells" picks up the pace soon after and mixes Crookers beats with martian-synths and some eye-watering builds. Speaking of martians, "Zombies" follows and kicks some serious octave-riding bass into the mix. and some bubbly drums.
While Thayer's got the heavy breakbeat workers in check, he also brings MC's Mike Beatz and Lex One on board for some new-skool hip-hop business on "Can't Touch Me Now" and also on "Gimme Some More" featuring Sporty-O, which marries dirty bass with some equally dirty raps. Fellow hype-masters Black Noise also make an appearance on the collaborative "Rockin' It" which is a masterpiece of bass driven lunacy powered along by some hard-hitting retro drum breaks. With sixteen hardcore gems on the album, Nick Thayer's certainly excelled himself on Just Let It Go.

Review: iBreaks head man JMekka has spent too long away from the studio of late building up the label, but thankfully he's found time to blast out a fresh new pair of techy breakbeat gems, led by "Shine", which has a huge rolling bottom-end bounce to it. The drums are tight as hell too, with some seriously fresh programming and a dubby vocal bringing it all in for the win. Also included is a new reworking of DJ Mutiny's classic tune "Dream Come True", done with a tech-funk sheen and another fiery vocal which is dropped almost acapella at one point for some guaranteed hands-in-the-air moments.
