Review: After a blistering start to life, One Seventy is back with more unashamedly functional, dance floor-destroying tools here on its second release. This one is a collab between DYL and DB1 and all four are Basement Tracks. The first is predatory and slow, poised and menacing with its heavy drums and scraping synths. The second is the sound of a decaying warehouse, with dropping water pipes, big metal hits and distant crashing machines. The third is more suspensory, with a floating drum break and airy pads that zone you out before the brutal closer is a dystopian techno weapon.

Review: Having initially impressed on Good Lookin' Records in the late 90s with a series of melodic, blissful and far-sighted drum and bass records, Blu Mar Ten have since tried their hand at atmospheric trip-hop and dewy-eyed ambience. Here they return to their first love with a deliriously positive set of shimmering soundscape D&B. To keep things fresh there are occasional diversions into tougher, rolling territory - see the old skool junglisms of "Made In London" and tech-step bounce of "Problem Child" - but for the most part Love Is The Devil is as glorious, soothing and indulgent as you'd expect.

Take that love and double it because this time on the legendary outsider label Ingredients he's taking us through his exceptional range of influences, picking inspiration out of the air and showing off all the exciting things drum & bass can be. "Red Tape"'s mixture of old and new vibrates happily through old dubby grooves, feeling exhilarating and familiar all at the same time. "The Pain" takes on a more experimental purposefulness, collapsing tricky, top-end percussion into deep, resonant bass. "Downtown" finishes off the trio with a look at the roots of the genre, stepping up with junglist mentality and a fresh underground sound.

Review: Having impressed with his debut on Shogun earlier this year, it's little surprise the label have tapped young blood Joe Ford for some new material. Lead cut "Off Centre" may well be Ford's deepest production to date, with a touch of techno to it's loopy hook, yet it still rolls with an undulating warmth building into a beautiful atmospheric drop that will pique the interest of many. Thirsty for the firing Ford who first smashed into the game with Noisia-levels of neuro angriness? Flip for the brutal, no-holds-barred "Knock Down". The title says it all. Shoe-off time!

Review: Undiluted dark style business on vinyl-only imprint Horrific... Digital is an ideal candidate for the label. And, as with anything this man has ever put to wax, it's a sure-fire smasher. "Corrupted Soul" is a subby, dubby jungle original with tightly diced breaks and unpredictable bassline gurgles. "Glue Tune" grunts with a "Terminator"-style bass hook that slaps like a sheet metal boxing glove. Nothing short of heavyweight.

Review: Based out of London, Goldman Records is a new label that prides itself on clean visual aesthetics as much as it does a dirty drum and bass sound. The best example of the label's twisted side is the track "Swinger" which chops mutant vocals of Busta Rhymes "Break Ya Neck" with tear out scrapes of bass, crunch and warped synths. This 12"s A-side, "Syrup", counteracts the harshness of the B1 with a liquid and flowing production laced with muscular groove. "Pecker" samples more unknown hip hop (Method Man vocals the hint), intertwining it with frenetic drum machine percussion and grubby drums. This record also features a bonus download; a cosmically smooth roller coaster "Endless Blue".

Review: A fine and rather prolific year for London-based Need For Mirrors that commenced with the Gunga P drop on V Recordings ends with the Sacred Heart EP on Metalheadz. In between, the aviator rocking DJ and producer has racked up numerous rollers for Warm, Dispatch and Horizons but it feels like he might have been saving his best work till last for this blood red 12". The title track rolls with tight double bass lines and supple female harmonies for a perfect example of contemporary liquid bizniz, whilst "Beams" has a real punch to it's groove. The delightfully named "Pow Wow" switches up the pace again, veering off into moodier territory with some superb synth work.

Review: One of the many premiere league D&B artists to have emerged from The Netherlands, Lenzman galvanised seven years of production kudos with his stunning debut album last year on Metalheadz. Now comes the all-essential, star-studded remix EP as we're treated to rubs from some of the finest names in the game: Ivy Lab strip "Paper Places" right back to its soulful bones, man-of-the-moment LSB gets his Calibre on with velvet pads and unrelenting drums, Ulterior Motive flip "Tearz" into a brutal stepper with an array of bass wheezes and groans that sound like they've got a 40-a-day habit, while the legendary dBridge adds a sharp two-step to the perennial soul/jazz roller "Just Can't Take". Each one of them representing the true essence of remix, Metalheadz have put together something very special here.

Review: Five years have passed since Bristol-based beat-chiseller Break last dropped the A-bomb. The whole scene has changed hugely since then, but with his new LP Break is preparing to take us back to the days when only the groove (and some perfectly processed snares) mattered: The Kyo-fronted "Simpler Times" is a barbed soul roller with just the right amount of roughage while "Top Shooter" is a straight up slapper with deep rumbling subs and Break's gritty rhythm signature. Review: Eveson's old school homage Dead Man's Chest enjoys the vinyl outfit its sounds demand... "Liquid 94" is all about the trembling one note piano strokes over a breezy mid tempo breakbeat. "Cut Throat Hardcore" is exactly what the name suggests: icy pads, barbed wire breaks, mentasms and a haunted vocal sample that nags for eons. "Nautilus" is the darkest jam of the EP; all buried elements and warped textures wrap tightly around cymbal-splash heavy break with enough space for a very well known Lafayette horn sample. Finally we hit the arresting, super-spacious sounds of "The Future" where the vocal dominates over a broad-brushed drum swing and deep sea pads. Deadly.

Review: Uncompromised breakbeat mayhem: Bristol crew Our Fucking Jungle invite two titans of the hardcore D&B scene for a double-sided damage platter. The legend that is The DJ Producer kicks off with a wily, turbo-charged slammer that's riddled with edits, twisted drum reveals and sudden plunges into wall of sound sonic hurricanes. SMYLA follows suit with a more industrial drum set, demonically downpitched reeses and a groove that won't let up for anyone.
