Review: Reinforced business! Metalheadz take us back 30 years in time to 92 to this seminal piece from the bossman Goldie. One of his earliest cuts (produced alongside fellow Rufiger Linford Jones) both 'Krisp Biscuit' and 'Take Me' capture a pivotal moment between acid house, hardcore and early jungle techno. Fully remastered and 2022, 'Krisp Biscuit' nods to the 4x4 foundations with all kinds of ravey ingredients and elements while 'Take Me' remains every bit the blueprint futurist platter it was back then. Review: On part 8 of the celebrations to mark a quarter of a century of Metalheadz, it's straight Rufige business. The classic 'No Angels', which rather obviously describes a godless world of tech, drums, bass and not much else, naturally through the mode of pioneering jungletechstep. The lesser-cited 'You Had To Be There' is a more relatively recent breaks cruiser in the tradition of liquid d&b. There's a reason this label is consistently at the top of the tree when it comes to the genre and here are two great examples why.

Review: Some of Metalheadz' selective '25 Years Of' anniversary editions have arrived in our mitts, shining a light on some of the best, earliest, and most characteristic drum & bass works by the label's many favourites. On part 9 here, select cuts by Doc Scott and Goldie's own Rufige Kru lay down a twin theme cleanliness and dirtiness respectively, both united by the theme of ghosts. Scott helms up the A with scratchy breaks and a wide void of headroom, emphasising punchiness above all with 'Ghost 25' and its unofficial version. Rufige's two bits, on the B, get much gritter with it - the wendigoes to Scott's banshees.
