Rene LaVice - "Headlock"
Cyantific - "Infinity"
June Miller - "64 Thousand Dollar Habit" (feat Secret Handshake Club)
Wickaman & RV - "Ev's Dead"
Review: Andy C's long running Ram Records imprint drops the fifth edition of their excellent Dimensions series - and the first since 2009 - further showcasing the fact there is still a wealth of talent and ideas in the drum & bass arena. This double drop of wax gets off to a blinder thanks to "Headlock" the contribution from newcomer Rene LaVice which contains deftly combines touches of classic D&B with his own contemporary production nuances. Hospital regular Cyantific continues his flirtation with Ram on the superb "Infinity" which is a masterclass in peak time drops and rolling beats. On the second twelve June Miller and the mysteriously monikered Secret Handshake Club bring something different to Ram with "64 Thousand Dollar Habit" which veers between emo rock and brutal, unrelenting D&B with abandon - proceedings veer back towards more traditional Ram fare on the sci fi roller "EV's Dead" from Wikaman & RV.

Nothing I Can Say
Review: Five years ago Calyx & TeeBee set a ridiculously high bar with their debut album Anatomy. Did they set an impossible task? Is that why it's taken so long? Not on your nelly, bass fans - clearly they've been honing their skills to create something even finer. From the moment you switch fluidly from Heavenly guitars to a filthy-ass bassline on the opener "Heroes & Villains" you know this is special. Move on for the "Brown Paper Bag" flavoured "Pure Gold" with Kemo. Or the lush, skippy wheezes and washes of the Calyx-fronted "Elevate This Sound". Or, for that matter, the grungey chaos of the Beardyman collabo "You'll Never Take Me Alive". Take your pick; every single tune is special.

Review: Since first making his debut on Canada's Stride Recordings back in 2009, Toronto native Rene Lavice has been inching towards 'D&B heavyweight' status. While he's not there just yet, this confident debut album for the mighty RAM Records should nudge him a little nearer his goal. Bold, brash and rave-inspired, with both eyes on the dancefloor, Insidious breathlessly flits between steppy jungle, tech-step and deeper flavours without a care in the world. It has its share of darkness, too - see "Thorax" and the brilliant old skool roller "Tap Dat" - but the overall feel is one of thrilling release. As debut albums go, it's pretty good.

Deep In My Heart
Rich Kids
Review: Following a slew of tear out anthems such as "Soundboy", "Brainstorm" and "Echoes", hard house turned D&B producer Hamilton brought us some excellent new tunes here on Andy C's influential Ram Records. "Deep In My Heart" was a power anthem in the making, with an empowered repeating vocal hook echoing within the tune, and accentuating the pumping drums, trance-influenced synth work and sweeping atmospherics. "Rich Kids" was an equally exciting venture with punishing subs, grueling synth sweeps and pounding drums setting the pace and tone for the piece. Scintillating stuff here from the Ram camp.

End Of Days
Make It Rain
Review: Delta Heavy have been making a name for themselves thanks to the trusty Ram Records, bridging the gap between post-pop and jump-up. "Get By" is all snares and guns ablaze, broken down thanks with some lyrical voices and luscious chords. "Turbine" is just downright Ram dirt, with its pounding bassline howling away like there's no tomorrow. "End Of Days" is another peak-time romper stomper complete with long, swaying bass oscillations, but it's "Make It Rain" that tears everything down to pieces - menacing, full-on dubstep wobbles here - BEWARE!

Stepping Stones
Review: Ram have been on another signing spree this year, D&B stalwarts Calyx & Teebee being just one of their latest savvy business moves. "Scavenger" is a head nod to Ram's formative days as THE darkest, steppiest, techiest imprint. Raving and rampaging with whirling hoovers and heavily processed synths, there's more than a wee whiff of Ram Trilogy or Bad Company throughout. "Stepping Stones" meanwhile, is a head nod to Ram's current position as the go-to imprint for all things D&B. A jazz-flecked roller with equal parts old school and new, this is a quintessential lesson in cool, understated drum & bass.

Bombers
Review: As we've already pointed out, Juno HQ has a hidden love for Ram Records. The guys over in Hornchurch still manage to bring the funk out of those harsh breaks and squealing basslines. This time Loadstar steps up with a two-tracker, featuring "Passenger", a neo wobble-step leviathan whose power is not to be taken lightly. Next up, "Bombers" brings back the drums and the bass-es - a shimmering jump-up cacophony in true Ram style - we still bobbin'...

Troglodyte
Review: Another Ram release, another banger! That's the adage at Juno HQ when a new delivery from the Hornchurch hotspot comes in. If someone doesn't say it, they get charged a fiver by the boss. Them's the rules. And the rules for this particular pair of bangers? Easy - play them or insult your dancefloor. "I Remember" was first aired on Andy C's Nightflight 5 and we'd been itching for it ever since. The perfect balance of euphoria and funk and coated in spine-tingles, this is a head nod to early Hospital material but with added bass cojones. Meanwhile on the flip "Troglodyte" does its own balancing act between a deep rolling groove and heavy tech elements and cheeky fun. Another Ram release, another banger indeed...

Surprise
Review: With a steadily growing fanbase on Ram, initially coming off the back of his inclusion on Andy C's Nightlife 4 and a number of killer singles, Culture Shock's showing no signs of slipping with "Bad Red". With a funky and crunchy bassline working in tandem with some huge lead stabs, it works itself into a smooth breakdown before coming back in with even more fire and menace. "Surprise" on the flipside is also a tasty treat, with some militant and unpredictable synths filling gaps between the razor sharp jump-up drums. Clearly a producer on the rise, look out for more heat from Culture Shock in the future.

Coming Closer (VIP)
Review: Currently one of the biggest names in dance music, Sub Focus can't seem to be stopped at present. Building on his album with a flurry of remixes and collaborations this single with Coco on vocals, this could well turn out to be the tune that tips him headfirst into the mainstream. Eerie and full of dramatic pads, the drums are kept subtle to let the full impact of the bass punch through loud and clear on the choruses. Rusko takes a wild leap with his mix - keeping the mix clean while putting a brilliantly funky slant on the drums. And for all the bassheads hanging out for something heavy, the VIP mix of the brilliant "Timewarp" is included for good measure.

Plastic Faces (feat Verdict & Amber Melody)
Review: Basher made all the right noises on his debut way back in 2006 with the superlative Leachcraft for Ram sister label, Frequency. Following a number of killer drops on both the aforementioned plus Sudden Def and Mastermind, the London based producer recently unveiled his debut LP for Andy C's genre defining imprint. Those who indulged in Transmission will know how good it is, pairing classic D&B aesthetics with contemporary production tricks - for those unsure this four track sampler spread across two twelves should be very persuasive. Opening track "Xerox" does the most talking, presenting some upfront dancefloor dynamism that's made all the better by the vocal turn from Xtrah.

Take That
Review: Exclusive Ram signing DC Breaks follow up their 2009 smash hit "Pickett Line" on sub-label Frequency with another hands-in-the-air anthem featuring lush, soaring vocals from Rox. DC Breaks fans may remember her from the duo's superb remix of "My Baby Left Me" a year or so ago. Catering for the Annie Mac market this time, they blend rolling percussion with sonorous, melodic strings and finish it with a glossy polish. "Take That", up next, kicks off with unnerving notes, sci-fi synth swoops and sweeping strings, before dropping into classic Ram tear out, complete with rowdy bassline, growling vocal sample and soaring synths aplenty. Massive.
