Soviet (6:34)
7Arc (6:48)
Review: Few things are certain in life; death, taxes, politicians lying and Paradox guaranteeing to slap your very soul with every single release he ever carves. Paradox Music 040 is no exception as 'Soviet' buries you under a savage iron curtain while '7Arc' is just Dev showing off his digging chops as he makes a whole range of breaks and cuts chat and bubble away in conversation. Pure breakbeat magic as always. Big up Paradox.

I'll Wait (5:16)
Amara (6:08)
Review: Seba and Paradox return to offer up twin atmospheric, deep and breaks-driven drum & bass gemstones, 'I'll Wait' and 'Hexagon'. Quietly powerful and with enough drive and soul to shatter windows like terrestrial sonar, the A-sider 'I'll Wait' is a masterfully crafted track, proving that, while many drum & bass tracks might technically fit the bill, it takes a much greater deal of extra care and attention to really perfect the style's pacing. B-sider 'Amara', meanwhile, is much looser, albeit no less trigger-happy on the vocal oneshots, and it comes with a entrancingly time-losing rhythm to boot.

Antilogy
Black 69 (version)
Review: Paradox is set to release his Ramifications LP imminently on Paradox Music; what better way to wet our appetites than with this teaser with "Antilogy" and the gloriously downtempo "Black 69" on the flip. "Antilogy's" mysterious vocals taunts and nostalgic strings pave a meandering intro for the cascading drums and stabbing sub bass that soon arrive. Head strong and relentless as ever, Paradox proves his already sterling reputation with this experimental drum and bass must-have. The surprising 125 BPM thrust of "Black 69 (Version)" on the flip depicts an entirely different landscape to its counterpart, as mind trippin' and dirty beats collide with ascending pads and eerie vocals.

Manjira
Review: His releases are relatively rare these days, but jungle veteran Dev Pandaya remains a formidable breakbeat scientist - as this long-overdue solo full-length proves. Kicking off with a moody, 125 BPM take on breakers' beats ("The Last B-Boy"), Ramification shows Pandaya at his beat-programming best, cutting up live drum breaks and impressively switching between moods and tempos. Along the way, we're treated to intense old skool junglisms (the menacing "Fake Funk" and "Yasaka"), distorted jazz-breaks ("Black 69"), spooky 90s rollers ("Ghost Notes") and intoxicating Indian instrumentation ("Marijaya"). For those who like their D&B with a touch of original jungle flava, Ramifications comes highly recommended.

Breaker (6:24)
Kickdat (5:56)
Review: Drumfunk doyen, break dismantler, all-round jungle legend, not a month goes by without Dev Paradox hitting us with another break. Literally in this case; the tuned snare rolls and rifle kicks are all built up around a vocal sample explaining exactly what he does on a monthly basis. "Kickdat" takes us deeper down the break rabbit hole with a slower investigation of mid to late 80s hip-hop. As always with Paradox, this is nothing short of essential.

Offchord (6:26)
Review: The 20th 12" on Seb & Paradox's own label comes from the bosses themselves. It offers up some slick summer sounds on 'Swirl' with its stepping drums and lush, dreamy pads all filling the airwaves with good time vibes. On the flip, the super smooth and seductive 'Offchord' has more minimal and stepping drums, but they have a sense of funk in them and float in a cavernous cosmic space and are run through with more soft synthscapes that expand your mind. Both of these tracks come in a new art sleeve and really take you somewhere special.

Lifeform (6:20)
Review: Dynamic duo Seba & Paradox follow up their brutal Metalheadz release at the start of the year with another doublet of raw, uncut drum & bass jungle. The second release on their collaborative label, once again it's a blizzard of textures and emotions. "Come Again" is all about the bumping bassline and sheet metal switches in the breaks while "Lifeform" takes on a much more atmospheric, emotional character thanks to the swooning chord progression and surges in the bassline. Ageless.

Dilenttantes (6:21)
Review: Back to 2005! Straight off the heat of their debut album The Esoteric Funk, Nucleus & Paradox release this alarmingly savage 12" and we've been waiting for a reissue ever since. "Love Her" sounds like a swarm of bees trapped in an Akai. Buzzing, high voltage, strange harmonics, grumpy bass groans and flashes of venom amens, it's been a cult classic for 14 years. "Dilenttantes" is even more fitting of their Esoteric title with Foley sounds, strange twisted textures and more precision breakbeats. Two timeless bumps from one of drum & bass jungle's most longstanding and visionary duos - grab this while you can.

Decagon (6:31)
Hakai (7:08)
Review: There are few drum and bass producers who can boast quite as deep a discography as Dev Pandya AKA Paradox. 23 years after making his debut, the veteran producer continues to dish up high-grade dancefloor workouts in his inimitable style. Pandya begins his first EP of 2019 with "Decagon", a punchy roller whose crunchy, snare-driven breakbeats, colossal dub bass and delay-laden electronic bleeps recall the early days of British bass music 30 years ago. He heads explores similar sonic territory on flipside "Hakai", a similarly weighty - if a little sweatier - excursion built around elongated sub-bass tones, revivalist jungle drums and echoing toaster chat.

Too Dissimilar (8:44)
Idiosyncrasies (9:08)
Review: 20 years old and still sounding more future than most jungle records: Paradox dusts off his only release on the late, great, criminally over-looked Partisan imprint. "Too Dissimilar" rides on an absolute pearl of break (even by Paradox's unique standards) that charges out for over eight minutes, digging you deeper and deeper into its dark, alien universe. "Idiosyncrasies" is even further out in the singular solar system. Opening with the clean break (which Paradox has always encouraged sample creativity with) it then drops us into a gravity-free vacuum as we float and sway to classic icy pads before the break is sped up and twisted right before our very eyes. Jazzy, floaty but unrelenting; it's a perfect example of Dev Pandya's truly unique voice in the game.

Review: Seba and Paradox... If ever there was a D&B dream team, it's these guys. With collabos going back to 2005 on labels such as Hospital, Critical and Bassbin (to name but a few) their complementary vibes reach a new height as they set up a label strictly for them. And it starts right here. "Over Now" is pure cosmic soul sent from the year 2319, all planet-bounding breaks and hazy atmospheres, while "Jupiterize" whisks us off on a dreamy magic carpet ride around the galaxy as a jazzier spring is added to the evocative mix. Precision tag-team business, both men bring their a-game as always.

Review: Long-time sonic sparring partners and kindred fusion spirits Paradox and Nucleus return to their Esoteric imprint for more glacial goodness. "Beatbox" is a perfect example of the two OGs' sonic palette. Unhurried, spacious and colder than an overnight party-for-one in a morgue. "Plexus", meanwhile, takes us even deeper down their rabbit hole. Stripped back to a well-chiselled two step, rolling break, cosmic pads that constantly mutate and a velvet sub bass that really pops when you drop this on a big rig, it's perfect hypnotic fodder for the 4am crew.

The roomy dynamism on the drums and sudden drop into strange cosmic space slop on "The Bolide" are guaranteed to grab you by the cojones while "Dioxan" throes down a b-boy dual with its bubbling sub funk, twisted bass variations, classic samples and minimal rhythm make-up. Review: Long-standing break cronies Nucleus & Paradox return to their own collab label with two textbook drumfunk bangers: "Ubiquity" comes with devilishly dark mid 90s Renegade-style bass plunges and crisp, spaciously spliced and arranged drums. "Foundation", meanwhile, has more of a jazzy twang with its chords. Think Dope Dragon 20 years ago maybe with a dash of 4Hero on the tones... But 100 percent Nucleus & Paradox on the drums. Review: Decorated break professors Nucleus and Paradox continue their longstanding partnership with yet another soul-refreshing drumfunk session: "Take You There" proves there's still heaps of creativity in classic dance vocal samples as it's laid down gracefully over a classic rising chord structure that wouldn't have gone amiss on Goodlooking in 1995. "Jangala", meanwhile, wouldn't have sounded out of place on Subtitles in the early 2000s when the world was finally waking to a global junglist order. Deep authenticity.

Electropaque
Review: As Nucleus and Paradox, Dave Simms and Dev Pandya racked up a bounty of drumfunk classics for the likes of Reinforced, Metalheadz and more between 1997 and 2009. Coaxed back into the studio together earlier this year for a killer drop on Metalheadz Platinum, it was clear the old studio chemistry between Pandya and Simms had not dissipated one iota so the sight of further Nucleus and Paradox material is no surprise. Adding Samurai to their collective collar, lead track Prism is a prime time roller filled with hefty break beats, classic jungle vibes and trademark Nucleus and Paradox sub bass. The flip "Electropaque" finds the pair in a more contemplative mood without any concession to rhythmic punch.

Future Now
Review: With a collaborative history that spans over a decade - munching space on labels such as Critical, Hospital and Horizons - Seba and Paradox's successful partnership is one of ice cold clarity. This return to Swedish strong-arm Secret Ops is no exception as their sinewy sonics flex with stern dynamics; "Delusions" is a crafty riser with darkened vocals, pitched snares and subtle edits. "Future Now" is a much darker slab of jungle. A palpitating sub is smothered by rusty drums, twisted reeces and pads so demonic they could be sections. Powerful.

Review: One of the most creatively fruitful and natural production partnerships jungle has ever spawned; Nucleus and Paradox continue to dig deep into the classic breaks and set new benchmarks in both curation and sample creativity. "Blade 9" slaps relentlessly under a heavy web of designs, tripped out noises and gurgling bass. "Break North" is a much starker, stripped back affair with a finely chiselled kick-snare two-step hammering beneath cosmic synth flickers, bass depth plunges and occasional deep breath pads. Timeless.

Lie To Me (5:39)
Review: A tried and tested threesome formation; Seba and Paradox have worked with vocalist Robert Manos several times over the last 10 years. And the three-way partnership is still as strong as ever with both cuts right here; "Because" is bulbous ball of rolling soul, drenched in aquatic pads and Manos's faraway yearns. "Lie To Me" is a lighter, twinkling piece of work. Reminiscent of Commix's earlier work, it could have easily been released at any point in the last 20 years... And sound relevant and razor sharp on every occasion.

"Planet R" gurgles and groans beneath sheet metal breaks with an uneasy roll and stark overlays. "T Breaks In" flies with a jazzier break where the emphasis is squared wholly on the drums before deep meditative breaths and tidal synths lap softly on the grainy sands, gradually building with every bar. Immaculate timeless jungle.

I Led You
Review: King of dusty breakbeat manipulation, jungle legend Paradox reaches a milestone 150th vinyl release. Still sounding as exciting, daring and forward thinking as he did when he emerged on Moving Shadow 20 years ago, both sides on this resonate with everything that's great about breakbeat culture. "Jupiter 89" is pure swamp jazz with spell-binding sample snippets buried deep in the fractious drum arrangements while "I Led You" is much more streamlined and classical thanks to its icy early-Metalheadz dynamism. A milestone for both Paradox and jungle, this is essential.

The Return Of...
Analogue Life
Review: Dave Simms and Dev Pandya's roving Nucleus & Paradox project has been running since the late '90s and featured on many of the great Drum & Bass labels in this time, including a 2005 drop for Metalheadz. Here they add the Metalheadz Platinum sublabel to the list with a two track stormer of the highest quality. "The Return Of..." is a classic example of Nucleus and Paradox's trademark break beats and sub bass approach, rolling out the Think break over a hefty rave bass line with an expertise that few can match. On the B Side "Analogue Life" offers a more restrained take on the pair's approach and it's a fairly menacing production to boot.

Core Jungle
Review: Yes! Dev Pandya casts aside the glacial soundscapes of his Alaska material in favour of something wholly ruder on this two tracker under the Paradox banner, which is in fact the 149th vinyl release of a illustrious career thus far. Lead cut on Drum Machine brings to mind Mo'Wax era Peshay with razor sharp break beats cascading off the grid whilst Pandya plays around with a rap vocal, with a sense of rhythmic purpose retained by the rumbling subs and cuts of distorted bass. Paradox's hardcore roots are referenced on "Core Jungle" which is packed with vinyl rip samples, crunched funk breaks and heavy delay - this latter track was apparently written specifically for vinyl mastering and will not surface in digital format.

The clue's in the title and the records he's sampled are actually on the sleeve art. Shucks, on "Scorpius" it actually ends with the source break, all beefed up and ready for you to sample. Review: The one and only Dev Paradox returns with more unique breakbeat gold, in the way only he knows how. This time we're flexing two different tempos as the pioneer hits us first with jungle drum funk before following it up with a 130BPM breakbeat slap. 'Street Beat' hits us first with crisp breaks that switch and swipe with Dev's signature rudeness while ragga chats weave and bob over the groove and a bassline grumbles beneath. 'Drum Throne' on the B takes us into Paradox's slower tempo realms but once again the beats reign supreme and the drop in speed gives us more space to explore the groove. All hail the king.

Review: One by-product of the ongoing enthusiasm for vintage breakbeat hardcore and jungle sounds is the boost it has given to those artists who started their careers during the early-to-mid '90s. Dev Pandya AKA Paradox, who began his career in 1992 as part of Mixrace on Moving Shadow, is a great example. He continues to deliver on-point productions that ripple with the ethos and intensity of rave-era workouts - as this killer two-tracker proves. Title track 'Desolator' is a wonderfully sub-heavy, effects-laden, rave MC-sampling slab of revivalist jungle powered forward by tough kicks and supremely crunchy snares, while flip side 'Kampala' is a pulsating, bowel-bothering trip into darkcore/proto-jungle territory.

Review: Dev Pandya is Paradox, an artist who's fine career started back in 1992 as part of Mixrace on Moving Shadow. Back then the breakbeats and jungle he was making weren't considered vintage, but now it is, and for fans of that sound the fact he is still turning out the same sort of sounds is great news. After a top 12" on this label in August, he ends his year with a return that features two more perfectly assembled tunes. 'Nord' is clean, mechanical and heavy stepping material with plunging bass and 'Kenai' is a more fluid breakbeat that is doused in cosmic synth warmth.

Review: Swedish junglist Seba continues to dive into the back catalogue of his Secret Operations imprint and offer up EPs that feature remastered (and sometimes lightly remixed) versions of some of his classic cuts. On this second volume in the 'Secret Operations Reissue' series, he raids the catalogue of tracks he produced alongside Paradox in the mid 2000s. On side A you'll find a re-wire of their 2004 classic 'Wakeup Call', a punchy but deep, sub-heavy and atmospheric roller featuring fantastic lead vocals from legendary house vocalist Robert Owens. Over on the flip there's a chance to cop two cuts from 2005: the 'Apache'-sampling, rumbling sub-bass-propelled workout 'Fire Like This' and the punishing, jazz break-sporting sweatiness of 'The Dribbler'.

But that's why we love them, right? Here they're treating us to something a little different; side A is all about a jazzy new number from them "Division", which sooths with a little more funk than you'd usually expect from the but sounds all the fresher for it. Give The Drummer Some (remix)
Review: Well Paradox is the grand old age of 100 !!!! Yes PM012 is Paradox's 100th release so a special edition RED VINYL 12" here for your eyes and ears. 'The Unspoken Divide' is a haunting and eerie track with the most distinctive break currently in D'n'B with its female 'ohh' groan in the breakloop, and it's one that definitely sticks in the mind. Stunning extremely rare film samples set the tone from the intro and a deep bassline that rumbles and grows just shows how deep Drum and Bass should be without trying to make your nose bleed with much of today's synth-led 'Pop n Bass'. Piano and eerie violins shape the uneasy mood over the break of 2006. Here we have Paradox at his futuristic best !! 'Give the Drummer Some' starts with a drummer in half speed fashion which erupts into a break NEVER USED BEFORE in D'n'B. That's how Paradox likes to keep things fresh [although he knows the sample hungry kids will get their mittens on it as soon as it's out]. A heavy reggae bassline topped with 70's style Lalo Schifrin xylophone samples take the mood into a different realm whilst the beats tug the track as tight as a belt. Whose playing them? Bailey, Marcus Intallex, Goldie, Outrage, Raf & Illogik, Loxy, Kryptic Minds, Alley Cat, Flight, Sappo, Ldouble, Equinox, Gremlinz.

Alaska & Nucleus - "Azure"
Nucleus & Paradox - "Elusion Theme" (version)
Review: "Azure" is a wide cinematic composition which just oozes d&b knowledge. Bell chimes, violins and tone layers make this a beautiful piece of music that could easily be released without any beats alone. Trademark emotive drum funk.

Fire Like This
Review: These two artists have brought us funky breaks for over a decade. Both of them being totally devoted to breakbeats, and the 95-97 era of drum & bass. "Red Tears": Seba & Paradox return in a new way that few would have foreseen. This track builds up with a programmed 2-step break and a pulsating bass. Eerie vocals are dubbed over chopped in breaks, and oscillating synth pads before the track breaks down. The feel is very laidback yet intense. "Fire Like This": Pitched-shifted apache breaks and vocal samples introduces this track to a heavy sub bass. The track rolls out to a breakdown, where it changes to a more intense break. This one sounds bad on big rig. The bass is taking over the whole track and puts you in a trance, while the beats move the track forward.

Trezub (5:59)
Review: Seba & Paradox link up for this new 12" on the cultured Ilian Tape label and in doing so explore all new and hard hitting bass depths. The influential pair serve up two top cuts here bit both hit the mark. 'Volt' kicks off and is turbo charged by synths that come on like electric shockwaves and drill down through the mix of bright chords and tight breakbeats. 'Trezub' is a more lithe rhythm that darts about the stereo field with thundering bass and haunting pads in the distance. Truly devastating stuff.
