Review: You can always count on Depeche Mode to do things differently. Never content to play it safe despite their position as a global superstars, as the 80s turned into the 90s they collaborated with celebrated filmmaker Anton Corbijn on the music videos from their albums Music For The Masses and Violator. The first set were gathered together at Strange in 1988, with the follow-up released as Strange Too in 1990. In between the music videos for megahits like ‘Personal Jesus’ and ‘Enjoy The Silence’ were additional vignettes and incidentals, all filmed by Corbijn on his trusty Super 8, and the end results have become synonymous with the Mode’s visual aesthetic. Now both films have been gathered together in one handy Blu Ray package, digitally remastered without losing that all-important grainy finish.

Review: The Sojourner Box Set from Magnolia Electric Co features four long players that have been long out of print. This first reissue for ages also marks the first time they have been on vinyl. The albums are from four separate recordings sessions by Magnolia Electric Co. after their debut studio album What Comes After The Blues. They map the celestial journey of the outfit from Americana stompers to lean folk tunes. At the heart of them all is Jason Molina's mournful and unique voice. The sessions were recorded in places including Chicago, Illinois, Memphis, Tennessee and alone by Jason Molina with just a mic and a guitar in one case.

Review: After their first round was such a success, Gary Crowley and Jim Lahat have been tasked with pulling together another essential collection of punk and new wave from the 70s and 80s, and you can rest assured they've done it again. There are some major, familiar names here like The Clash, The Slits and Ramones, but there's also a hell of a lot of rare delights from the likes of The Limit, The Art Attacks and The Newtown Neurotics. Musically, there's plenty of range too from spiky three-chord pub rock and punk through to Linton Kewsi Johnson and Dennis Bovell's crossover dub as Poet & The Roots. There are three in all (Travellers Tunes: Live From Sterling Castle 1998, Live Acoustic At The Jam House 2006 and Live at The Bridgewater Hall With Q Strings 2015.) and they are a fine reminder of the much loved UK indie band and all their most glorious moments. Review: A new standard black 5xLP box set to complement an alternate bicoloured deluxe version; The American Analog Set's formative first three albums - The Fun Of Watching Fireworks, From Our Living Room To Yours, and The Golden Band - are here gathered together under the name New Drifters, making up a great account of experimental breadth of the late 1990s Texas scene, and its utlimate expression in the work of this fivesome set of slowcorers. We hear a long take, as the band deliver a slow burning power-of-three for local monopolist Emperor Jones, all while quelling the thrums of fin-de-siecle angst by way of soft-sung tenors, emo catharses and sawn-off math rhythms. Notably but disputably described as "sloth kraut", there's a sepia-toned feel to the whole thing, but it's anything but lethargic; rather, it's beautiful. Remastered from the original analog tapes, this early-career spanning 5xLP box includes lyrics, photos and ephemera from the before times.

Review: Acetone's cult status as indie rock outsiders has been gathering momentum in recent years, placing their grainy sound in the hearts and minds of those with their ears tuned to wider frequencies. Active from the early 90s up to the point of lead singer Richie Lee's passing in 2001, their perfectly formed back catalogue is gathered together here as a monumental 11-disc box set which pulls together pretty much everything you could ever hope to hear from the band, and then some. The albums are expanded to double-vinyl editions, the UK-only debut single is now available more widely, and there's an abundance of previously never heard recordings. On top of that you can pore through a 60-page booklet featuring extensive liner notes by J Spaceman and Drew Daniel.

Review: When Depeche Mode teamed up with Anton Corbijn to make some music videos, few could have predicted the end results. If you ever thought there’s an artful consistency to the Mode’s music videos from the late 80s and early 90s, it’s because Corbijn filmed them all on a shoestring budget on his trusty Super 8 camera. The resulting pieces were strung together as vignettes forming a larger cinematic experience which was released in two instalments - Strange and Strange Too. Originally released on VHS and Laserdisc, the films have finally been bundled together, digitally restored and presented in this DVD box set with bonus material.
