Review: 2000 And One is one of many artistic alter-egos of Dylan Hermelyn, the Netherlands producer whose credits stretch as far back as 1990. A staple of the Amsterdam techno scene and a prominent fixture of Dutch House generators 100% Pure and later Delsin, Hermelyn's contributions at the very least verge on timeless and closing track 'Wan Poku Moro' from 2009's full-length album, Heritage, is among the top contenders for this crown. The track is a bongo-laden bustler full of the lively implied sounds of city life and clocks in at eight minutes in its attempt to reach the awesome heights of the house music sublime; here, however, comes Radio Slave and Riva Starr on this Rekids reinterpretation, both of whom pare the track back to its bassiest and pulsiest constituent parts, albeit to their own ends.

Review: Digital Tape Recordings kick out another vital 12" on wax here, this time with a third part of their on going and excellent Deep Dub Essentials series. 24HR Experience is at the helm here with a quartet of house and garage collisions that bring the good times. 'The Heaven Track' is a classic US garage cut with stiff snares and low slung drums, and 'Touch The After World' is just as deep and warm. 'Just A Vibe' is the highlight at the end - nice New Jersey drum with warming organ stabs and a carefree groove that effortlessly sweeps you up off your feet.

Review: 4:32am is a very precise time but one of the best for late night party animals. It's late enough to be getting weird but not so late as to be worried about the day after the night before. It is also an alias of an elusive producer who has cooked up these four fantastic jams during live sessions in his South London studio at the infamous Palace Vinyl. They are all deep and mysterious cuts with thudding kicks and eerie pads, intricate melodies and just the right mix of drive and atmosphere - perfect, then, for around 4:32 am.

Review: 440 Hz is an alias from French producer Maxime Simon, and he's getting his first solo 12" outing on Ellipsis following prior entries from Tom Jarmey and Aidan Francis. The vibe is trance-inflected deep house with plenty of analogue warmth, with 'Gazoline' making for an instant stand-out thanks to its intricate arrangement and sparkling production. There's some cheeky garage flex sneaking into 'Soul Mirror', in a style which should appeal to fans of Bicep and the like. This is melodically charged contemporary club music with a refined, polished veneer which should comfortably glide between tech house and UKG sets without disturbing the flow.

Review: 49th Floor is a pseudonym for Stefano Curti from The True Underground Sound of Rome, originally applied to a sole 1992 release Night Passage. Vibraphone always do a fine job of folding time in on itself from these glory days of Italo house up to the present day, and so it feels natural for a new 49th Floor 12" to arrive despite more than 30 years since the last one. 'Zamani' comes on four different versions which give plenty of options to deep diving DJs, from the full-spectrum, pad-soaked propulsion of the 'Body Mix' to the raw acid throwdown of the 'Magic K Dub Remix', a straight up dreamy 'Deep Mix' and swirling, splashy 'Dub Mix'. Review: The always adventurous Especial label is back on its world travels once more for another cultured EP, this time from Jonne Lyden aka 53X. This is a widescreen bass exploration with trance-tinged steppas looking firmly to the future from the Finnish-born artist. He has a background in punk bands but a trip to Berlin turned his ear and now he makes experimental fusions that draw on everything from industrial to Berghain to Detroit for inspiration. His tunes are mostly started out as live jams and then edited into what we have here - club-ready sounds, rich atmospherics, acid, breaks and hypnotic rhythms.

Review: Scottish twosome 6th Borough Project always have both eyes on the dancefloor, though some of their releases are undoubtedly heavier than others. 'Rhythm', the opening track from the pair's latest EP on Delusions of Grandeur, is one of their most unashamedly forthright workouts yet - a driving, sweat-soaked affair built around a restless bass loop, non-step organ stabs, breathless house beats and echoing vocal snippets. It's the closest they'll probably ever get to a proper heads-down number (and that's no bad thing). Over on the flip 'Truth' is a gently breezy Balearic deep house number featuring the twin attractions of fluid pianos and an addictive bassline, while 'Keep On' is a warmer and suitably summery deep house shuffler blessed with a brilliant breakdown and another weighty TB-303 style bassline.

Review: He may be based in St Petersburg, a city not known for being a sun trap, but Mikhail Khvasko AKA A Vision of Panorama is incredibly good at making warming, summer-ready Balearic beats. Further proof, should it be needed, arrives via his latest EP for Cala Tarida Musica. In its original form, 'Unconditional' is a terrific slab of Balearic nu-disco/Balearic house fusion - all rubbery bass guitar, smooth bits, gorgeous chords and twinkling melodies. It comes backed with a breezier, breakbeat-sporting 'dub vinyl edit' (an even sunnier and more attractive affair) and an 'instrumental' pass of the more house-centric take. Rounding off another fine EP is 'Shall We', a colourful fusion of jangling house pianos, attractive keyboard sounds and squelchy synth-bass underpinned by a box-fresh, post-electro boogie beat.

Review: The diffuse hues and retro-feeling colours of the artwork on this new 45rpm from Star Creature perfectly embody the downtempo and Balearic sounds within. They come from A Vision Of Panorama who seems to ever more have the dance floor in sights over his last few releases. That's not to say these are banging tunes - but they do have lovely grooves. 'Piano Sunset' is a real spine tingler with 80s keys and mid tempo drums that come alive with crisp hits and a fresh bassline. 'Lost In Palms' then has a shuffling and low slung groove with nice wet hits. Add in some more lush chords and you have a real pearler.

Review: AC Soul Symphony is one of Dave Lee's lesser-known pseudonyms, so for it to be the vehicle for an album of such extravagance, of such meticulous detail, is a real treat. Featuring live strings recorded with a 20-piece orchestra, all 15 tracks that span the epic two-hour runtime are expansive and feel as if every note was placed by hand; There's this authenticity to tracks like 'Manhattan Skyline', a CD/Digital only track which dates all the way back to 2020 and its swelling horn crescendos that transport you back to a time when disco had the world on its knees. 'Philly Avengers' is a major standout, with its killer bass grooves and dazzling Korg solo. The last of the city-related trio of singles is album opener 'Windy City Theme', a mid-tempo violin-led vocal groove that pays homage to the metropolis in Illinois. Review: Acid Jerks is a project from Oliver $ and Stefan Braatz which celebrates everything we love about vintage house music. Following recent drops on Nu Groove and Refuge Recordings, the duo make their way to German label Flaneurecordings with some precision tooled jackers that will have seasoned heads wondering if they're hearing an undiscovered Chicago gem or something from the new school. 'Utopia Vision' is the most feel-good of the lot with its soaring string stabs and undulating piano chords, while 'Instant' creates a raw, punchy mood for the real dancers to get creative with. 'The Catalyst' plus some classic Mr Fingers-inspired moves, and 'Narcotic Illusion' completes the set in a grubby, sweaty mode that echoes K Alexi Shelby at his steamiest.

Review: After declining to reveal their identities while promoting their early singles on Nu Groove, Acid Jerks decided to unmask themselves earlier in the year. Now Berlin-based twosome Oliver Siebert (AKA Oliver $) and Stefan Braatz (founder of Adapter Records) have pitched up on Local Talk for the first time. They begin by doffing a cap to Lil' Louis and hypnotic, heads-down epics of old on the hypnotic excellence of 'Shades of Grey' (which boasts some very DJ Rolando-esque synth-strings), before opting for a more Mr Fingers-esque sound on the nostalgic 'Wheels of Forture'. Over on the reverse, 'Rise Up' sounds like a long-lost Virgo Four deep house jam from the mid 1980s, while 'Ace of Spade' is a terrific, effects-laden jack-track driven forwards by a killer bassline and psychedelic acid lines.

Now he lands on Deepology with a masterful EP of contemporary minimal which draws on breakbeat as much as glitchy electronica and ambient to create a standout EP. Review: Skylax has never cared for trends of fads and has always dealt in classically inclined house music from artists old and new. The French imprint now looks to Nicolas Aftalion for the second volume of his Spirit of House EP. He captures just that expertly with the opener 'Cruise In Paradise' riding a nice mid-tempo groove with heartfelt vocal hooks. 'A Message To Mad Mike' ups the energy a little with more prominent pads and 'Paris Is Burning' taps into a sense and soulful groove with lush, lazy drums. 'Soulful In Paris' has a nice 90s feel the way the chords and drums sit with one another and is sure to bring the good times.

Review: Age of Rage aka the studio powerhouse pairing that is Dubbyman and Dan Piu is back on Sole Aspect with a third outing. The title of this one, Credo, is from the Latin word for a "firm set of beliefs and principles." It finds the duo serving up deeply soulful spirits and romantic atmospheres with dusty house beats as the vehicle. 'Open to Close' is balmy and gentle, with the dub even more warm for you to sink into. 'Fake Action' brings shuffling grooves and lush cosmic designs and 'Lover' is a smoochy closer that echoes Sade. Lovely stuff as always from this accomplished partnership.

Review: London-based Italian David Agrella is the man behind the Agrellomatica Records label and now for its fifth release, he has tapped up some undeniably quality names to remix the title tune from his debut Modulo EP back in 2007. Baby Ford kicks off with a deliciously deep and dubbed-out minimal house roller that is detailed with wispy chords and eerie vocalisations. Agrella himself then flips it into a rubbery 909 workout with pops and bubbles next to the leggy drums. GNMR goes for a gritty, heads down and back room techno roller and to close, NDR brings a retro techno sound with molten acid lines. All in all a very useful outing.

Deep House
Review: Brixton-based David Agrella returns after the success of his Baby Ford-remixed 'Modulo 02', with two tracks and a nifty remix of each to boot. 'I Felt It Coming' is a heady peak time track, with Underground Resistance-style drum machine handclaps and an addictive synth hook and all the suspense and drama of a Stephen King horror tale. Domenico Rosa's remix turns that frown upside down, converting it into a perky, cheeky and altogether lighter workout that nevertheless will keep feet on the dancefloor. 'Reflexion Nocturna' (Priori remix) kicks off the B-side with fizzling dub techno stealth, subtly embellished with a smidgeon of 'Funky Drummer' breakbeat, while Agrella's original closes proceedings with head down, echo-set Leftfield-style prog house skank. Not for nothing is this chap known as one of the techno scene's fastest rising new names.
