In Vino Veritas (B-STOCK)
Cat: CRTL 012. Rel: 01 Jan 90

Techno
Review: ***B-STOCK: Split/tear on spine of outer sleeve, but otherwise in perfect working order***

One of the most consistently intriguing artists operating in the French minimal house scene, Seuil has maintained an independent streak that has landed him on scores of label alongside his steady output on his own Eklo. The time has come for him to drop some missives on Cartulis, and the Parisian producer is sounding on rare form. There's a move towards fatter, rave-inspired sounds on this record, from the gnarly, buzzing leads of 'Energize' (featuring Le Loup), to the chirpy acid strut of 'Keep It Natural', but there's a deftness of touch in the execution of the tracks that could only belong to Seuil. 'Musique Sans Souffre' is the hit of the record - a moody, jacking workout to get lost in.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Torn sleeve, otherwise in excellent working condition***

Reade Truth has been dropping plenty of heat lately on Cartulis and Warm Fiction, but now he's back on his own label Path. There's a lysergic, freaky twist to the strain of electro-techno he's exploring, where the synths bubble and trickle with playful energy while staying rooted in a nocturnal underworld of basement-ready business. "Without A Doubt" is especially captivating on this tip, while the slight move towards melody on "Brain Damaged" is just as welcoming. Watch out for "A Secret Heaven" though - a consummately punchy New York groove garnished with plenty of off-kilter sonic debris.

Perspective & Surface (Oliver Hess remix) (6:48)
Perspective & Surface (original mix) (5:45)
Review: PRSPCTV aka XENTRIX is an emerging Belgian techno talent who steps out here with his first release on Musik is Egall. His moody and atmospheric original 'Perspective & Surface' is found on the B-side. It's a hunched-over, stripped-back deep techno and dub fusion with grotty synths and vast incendiary hi-hats hurrying you along. Label co-founder Oliver Hess steps up with his own remix on the A-side and flips the track into something as deep as they come, with dubbed out chords and warm, edgeless but driving kicks and smeared pads all laced up with muffled vocal mutterings and rising synths. It's one for early-evening groove sessions or late-night zone outs.

Moxie Presents Volume Two Sampler is the first physical release from Moxie's compilation series of the same name on her newly conceived 'On Loop' imprint. The compilation was released for free via Moxie's Soundcloud page in January 2016, and was met with rave reviews and radio support from the likes of Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Annie Mac and Toddla T. This sampler features 3 tracks taken from the compilation and an exclusive Dub of Medlar's 'In Dreams,' the original of which was a highlight on the compilation.

Too Big To Fail
Beat Boxxx
Boulevard Mystere
Enigma
Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged/torn but otherwise in excellent condition***

The 10th release on EYA comes from French producer Master Flashhh, who delivers punchy, cool-headed house music with a strong early 90s slant. 'Too Big To Fail' keeps things stripped back and weighty, with a bassline so thick you could sink your teeth into it. 'Beat Boxxx' has a more psychedelic, slow-techno slant to it, not least thanks to the ranging 303 gurgles sliding around the track. 'Boulevard Mystere' adds a little cinematic spookiness to the mix for an ear-snagging warm up track, and 'Enigma' completes the set with the kind of eerie mood and crisp box jam sounds that make artists like RVDS so compelling. Highly recommended for those who like their machine music with personality and punch in equal measure.

Wire (4:09)
Molten Drum (2:47)
Machine (5:48)
Zone (Packet) (3:23)
Review: Lurka ended the year on a high with a kick-ass new EP on his own new label Make Your Own Meaning. He is now set to start 2023 in an equally strong fashion with four more futuristic bass fusions. 'Wire' is a minimal stepper with bursts of bass and flitting percussive lines. 'Molten Drum' is another twitchy mix of malfunctioning computer sounds, refracted vocals and fizzing synths that keep you on edge then 'Machine' picks ups the pace with jumpy rhythms and militant snare work. 'Zone (Packet)' rounds out with a double-speed workout and juke patterns that head out on a cosmic journey.

Tongue-Twister (7:24)
Tongue-Twister (dub) (7:11)
Review: Jordan GCZ is having a hell of a year. He's already delivered two sublime albums (his debut solo set and one created in collaboration with Detroit legend Terrence Dixon) and here drops another must-check EP, his first for Rawax. 'Making Me Dizzy' sees the Amsterdam-based producer add gorgeously ambient lead lines, lilting TB-303 motifs and funky bass to a classic Motor City techno groove, with the accompanying 'Dub Mix providing a heavier, sweatier and more intoxicating alternative version. 'Tongue Twister' is jazzier and even more intergalactic, sitting somewhere between blissed-out Move D deep house and melodious techno. The dub that accompanies it is pleasingly deep, out there and effects-laden, escorting us even further into deep space. Tip!

Review: ***B-STOCK: Original outer sleeve missing & very light surface marks, otherwise in excellent condition***

Thule Records brings a brand-new material from the Icelandic techno legend, Exos. The A-sides, Downgarden and Citric are both hypnotic, yet unrelentless, techno grooves with dub influences - sure to be a essential in the record bags of all true techno DJs. The B-side starts with Hin Heilaga Threnning, unforgiving track yet full of grace. Finally we have Ormus, a dark yet atmospheric journey - tastefully tying together the EP and therefore igniting exciting new era for Thule.

With his numerous successful releases on Force Inc, Delsin & Mosaic (to name a few) and the recent release on Trip label, which is managed by the techno diva Nina Kraviz, listeners are sure to expect yet another future classic from Exos.
Thule Records is considered by many to be a pioneer in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of Iceland's most renowned electronic musician

Mind Wipe (7:05)
Our Mission (5:51)
Praying For Better Days (5:59)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Outer corner slightly damaged in transit, product otherwise in working condition***

Christian AB is making low key waves with a self-steered angle on hardware house and techno which packs plenty of personality into the time-honoured tradition of box jamming. Four years since the last exemplary 12" on London In Transmission, AB is back with another grip of charismatic club cuts. 'Mind Wipe' is the logical choice for the A side, riding a warm and fluid monosynth bass hook, classic boxy 707 drums and eerie pads to inject a little spooky mystery into the dancefloor. 'Our Mission' is a more adventurous track which dusts up the drums good a proper and lays the psychedelic textures on heavy, but not at the expense of the beat of course. 'Praying For Better Days' is a rousing finale, using some anthemic organ chords as the lead hook for an uptempo jacker par excellence.

Valentine (7:24)
Papillon (7:17)
Review: German artist Stephan Bodzin has done a fine job of keeping himself at the forefront of the melodic techno world, not least with his always boundary-pushing live shows. He takes that energy into the studio when cooking up his scintillating club tracks, too, and always has. This reissue on his own Herzblut label revisits one of his many stand cuts. 'Valentine' is a wonky one with creepy bass and mysterious melodies over crunchy tech beats. 'Papillon' takes flight like its butterfly namesake, with elegant leads and rubbery bass all doused in glorious melodic rain that has a sci-fi edge.
