Review: While Florida's Deicide are arguably still one of the most recognisable death metal acts in the scene, many (apart from avid devotees) might be shocked to learn that the vast majority of the group's albums, primarily their formative and quintessential Roadrunner releases, have received little to no vinyl pressings. Roadrunner Years is set to rectify this absurdity with a grandiose boxset, spanning from 1990-2001, and including the first worldwide versions of, 'In Torment In Hell', 'Insineratehymn', and 'When Satan Lives', as well as the first North American vinyl releases of, 'Serpents Of The Light', and, 'Once Upon The Cross'. Limited, numbered, and complete with an exclusive poster, inserts, sticker-sheet, as well as a pressing of the infamous, 'Feasting The Beast' EP, which is regarded as the project that led to the band's initial signing with the illustrious label, few artists who boast such decrepit, blasphemous material rarely pull such a touching gesture for their listeners.

Review: Ryan Adams is a man of many faces, and talents. Capable of tearing his own heart out to pen achingly beautiful songs, seemingly written in his own blood, he has a clear understanding of the human condition and how to tap into our most fragile moods and moments. Nevertheless, he remains a controversial character off-stage, from sexual harassment allegations - and his subsequent apologies - to reports of angry voicemails on critics answering machines and asking fans to leave gigs for 'rude outbursts'. Still, his show at New York's iconic Carnegie Hall on 14th May 2022 saw a packed house gather to listen to his work, which this recording offers a wonderful insight into. Stop-you-dead moments are here in abundance, while his clear rapport with fans - on this occasion at least - also stands out. A masterclass in alternative acoustic rock, informed by country sensibilities, listening through hits like 'New York, New York' and 'Come Pick Me Up', alongside deeper fare such as 'Romeo & Juliet' and a cover of Black Sabbath's 'The Wizard', only emphasises what one-man tour de force he is.

Review: This is a truly bumper and completist collection of work from Ontario producer, singer and songwriter Partynextdoor that brings together all four studio albums across six sides of vinyl. Most notably, the debut Partynextdoor album is included having never before been available on vinyl, which will be big news for diehard fans. It is now a decade since that breakout debut was released with singles like 'Over Here' and 'Break From Toronto' soon making their mark and establishing his sound. In the ten years since, he has gone on to produce for or write with Drake, Nipsey Hussle, Rhianna and Post Malone amongst many more.

Review: The Mutual Rytm label has been providing serious techno heads with irresistible ammunition for several years, and now comes a chance to own a huge chunk of the catalogue on this limited edition and bumper five record set. It features many of the label's key names past, present and future and deals in the sort of serious sounds that are for connoisseurs only. Standouts come thick and fast but the likes of Roll Dann's rolling and funky pumper 'That Will Never Happen', Alarico's urgent cosmic techno on 'Push To Select' and Selective Response's menacing and sawtooth bass sounds on 'Reality Unfolds' really epitomise what good techno is all about.

Review: The Very Best Of Grateful Dead was originally assembled by Warner Brothers Records back in 2003 and it still stands up today. It is a complete overview of the group best moments from fan favourites to memorable hits with the vocals and guitar musings of Jerry Garcia and rockin' guitar and vocals of Bob Weir front and centre in each track. The top tunes from the likes of Workingman's Dead and American Beauty are all featured next to plenty of anthems from the band's own label. A great reminder of one of the great psyche and garage rock bands.

Review: Now here's a treat for d&b heads on RSD 2023. Remastered and reissued for the first time since 2012, this deluxe and highly limited box set version of Wormhole sheds a whole new perspective on one of the genre's most pivotal and game-changing albums. A ground zero for many producers, the whole album captures a blueprint moment in dark, dystopian drum & bass that still carries just as much weight and tension as it did in 98. Each cut with a side of vinyl to itself, and a booklet to complete the deal, this is the type of package Wormhole always deserved.

Et Puis S'en Va!
Review: 33 Tours Et Puis S'en Vont marks a fine return for this true legend of techno. It has come in all formats and now arrives as limited hand-numbered gatefold coloured vinyl triple 12" box set plus CD, digital download, poster and sticker sheet making it the ultimate collector's edition. Contained within is Garnier's first solo long player in some eight years. It is one that focuses squarely on the dance floor with plenty of his fizzing, synth-heavy techno. Next to those bombs are plenty of lush vocal cuts that take their inspiration from hip-hop and broken beat, while 'Sado Miso' even finds him laying down some fresh thinking drum & bass.

Review: Ariel Kalma is a musical outsider, a visionary who combined a diverse world of sound into his own unique signature. Jazz, weird ethnic instrumentals, warm electronics, folk, spoken word and avant soul all feature in his compelling oeuvre and the visionary French musician sure had a large one. French Archives Vol III: 1964-1989 is another superb collection of material from it that comes in a lovely four LP box set with booklet and download code. It gets from astral wonderment on 'Space Pillars' to layers of harmonic bells, tropical flutes, harmoniums and drones of light on 'Muse Mirroir' with plenty in between.

Review: First released in digital and CD formats via Sacred Rhythm, 'Progessive Roots Evolution: A Song For Healing' hears Joaqin 'Joe' Claussell's indelible style of long-form spiritual house music re-flaunted to especial somatic ends. Intentionally crafted as a piece that bridges the needs of both the music and dance communities to whom Claussell is mutually close, this is a suite divided into multiple sections that feed on one another; they appose elements of samba, jazz and house, with ambient interstices and even ruminative piano meltdowns ('Healer', 'Heloise'). This ultra limited yellow LP edition is the audiophile's preference, its dynamism best flaunted on the floaty but driving 'Cosmic Arts' mix.

Review: Analogue Productions reissue Ella Fitzgerald's Clap Hands, Here Come Charlie!, a lesser-known gem in the jazz-singing great's discography. An early album, it documents Fitzgerald's chops when she was singing with the Chuck Webb band in the mid-1930s - but on this project she breaks away for a stint with Lou Levy. The album is notable for its use of a rather alien looking art piece by Jean Debuffet on its front cover, starkly contrasting to Fitzgerald's refined sound, singing of mild weather in Tunisia, starlit motels, and heartbreak. This remaster achieves a remarkably clean sound for an album recorded the time.

Review: Post Malone, or Postie to his hardcore fans, titled this most recent album in reference to his real name, Austin Post, which gives you an idea about the extra vulnerability and honesty of the music. He plays guitar on every single track and says it made the record the most challenging yet rewarding of his career to work on. Early singles 'Mourning' and 'Chemical' have been big with fans and newcomers alike and his fifth album overall, which is also one of 2023's most anticipated, builds on and intensifies the sound of his last outing, Twelve Carat Toothache, from 2022. This is a special milky clear vinyl version of one of the most anticipated records of the year.

He debut back in 1974 and set the world ablaze and now has a career than spans four decades and many seminal works. Speak Low is up there with some of his finest work and features lyrical solos with hi own unique and beautiful touch. These cuts explore the very essence of bebop and hardbop and all come with lots of irresistible swing feels. It adds up to a real triumph.

Renowned composers Roger Wanamo and Jonne Valtonen skillfully craft rich and intricate arrangements of Nobuo Uematsu's iconic compositions from FF5, 8 & 9. Additionally, Masashi Hamauzu offers a captivating suite inspired by his monumental original score for Final Fantasy XIII, while Valtonen sets the tone with his atmospheric opening piece 'In a Roundabout Way - Fanfare'. Pianist Mischa Cheung shines brightly in the spotlight, captivating audiences with his masterful performances in 'For the People of Gaia' and the emotive solo arrangement 'You Are Not Alone'.

Review: Raising Hell was legendary US hip-hop group Run-D.M.C's third studio album and it dropped in May 1986. The one and only Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons produced the album which peaked at three in the Billboard chart and also produced some of the band's biggest ever singles. They are of course 'My Adidas', 'Walk This Way' with Aerosmith', 'You Be Illin'' and 'It's Tricky' and are the sound of this collective at their most potent. Raising Hell is also the name of one of the band's legendary tours back in 1986 and The Apollo 86, a live recording of one of the nights in that run, is one of their best, so why not cop both.

Review: Bassnectar goes deep into his own take on dubstep here with a new album The Golden Rule on Amorphous Music. It comes across a triple selection of coloured vinyl and wastes no time in getting heavy. 'The Golden Rule' rides on saw tooth synths and slapping synths with 'Unlocked' (feat Rye Rye & Jamalski) bringing some vocal energy and 'I Am Another Yourself' then gets all screwy on some mad bass mutations. Elsewhere Bassnectar collaborates with Rebelwise on the exotic sounds of 'Prayer Song' and Hyper is peak time and maximal jump up for rave times only.

Influential welcome the 21st Century Junglist for an album with that fitting title which spans no fewer than 10 sides of vinyl. It is fitting that a man with his legacy gets the space and time he deserves having helped to shape the genre so immeasurably. It finds the man draw on his peerless three decades knowledge, skill and talent to cook up a record packed with straight up and stylish jungle bangers that tick all the boxes and then some. Review: If you've not seem the movie Oppenheimer chances are you've had your head buried deep in the sand for the past year or so. The multi-Academy Award-winning scientific epic charts the development of the first nuclear bomb and subsequent realisation, on the part of the man who cracked the formula, that such terrifying power should never have been brought into our world. Directed by Christopher Nolan, outspoken critics of the master filmmaker may by now be wondering if he'll ever make another movie with a linear storyline - so much of his output is anything but these days. However, that slightly surreal, disjointed, era-jumping approach to storytelling necessitates a soundtrack that combines stunning classical and more avant-garde experimentations. Which Ludwig Goransson delivered with spectacular effect. Now those tones are yours to own.

Review: Alex Font is charged with serving up the MINIMALER Factory label's first release and an ambitious one it is too - Cross The Limits: Chapter 1 (we wonder how many chapters there might be?) is a minimal and tech house triple pack that offers a wealth of club-ready sounds. They are embellished with all manner of abstract details and creeping sound designs, from trippy pads to whispered vocals. Each one is intricately designed and carefully arranged to be in a constant state of flux that very much keeps you locked from start to finish. A trio of fine remixes from Dubtil, Franco Cinelli and Alexis Cabrera add further gravitas to this strong album.

It takes in the best and most magical selections from his album such as Naqoyqatsi, Einstein On The Beach, Satyagraha, Akhnaten and many more.

Review: This has been a year of celebration for hip-hop with artists, labels and festivals all marking the still standout genre's 50th anniversary. As part of that, Def Jam has put together this Hip Hop's 50th Anniversary Edition of Young Jeezy's Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101 album on limited and gatefold triple fruit punch vinyl. It was originally released in 2005 by indie label Corporate Thugz and marked a fine commercial debut for the artists who'd already put out two mixtapes at that point. IA raw and hard hitting mix of gangsta and southern rap and trap, it's a high watermark for those styles, with singles like 'Soul Survivor' and 'My Hood' performing well.

Review: Originally released in 2017, async was the 19th studio album from Japanese heavyweight Ryuichi Sakamoto, breaking a near-decade-long hiatus during which he was treated for throat cancer. And it's incredibly dense stuff to dive into, with genius on display both in terms of theoretical approach to recording, and avant-garde thinking behind what a record could and should be. Of course, that's hardly surprising for Sakamoto, whose legacy as one of Japan's foremost sonic adventurers may still not be stated enough, even after all the post-humous repressings and tributes. On this outing, then, we have strange, otherworldly interpretations of everyday instruments, a heavy focus on playing with textures of sound, bits of artists such as David Sylvian and Paul Bowles reading texts, found noises from city streets and themes of mortality, and our difficulty in accepting that truth.

Artoffact Records reissued it on vinyl back in 2014 and now they do so again but this time on gatefold pink and blue splattered vinyl double album. It's a unique work that blends classical, glitch, and noise-driven pieces, featuring collaborations with artists like Dwayne Goettel, Genesis P.Orridge, Philth, and Mark Spybey. 'Music Fur Cats' showcases Key's songwriting depth, followed by 'Wind On Small Paws' with its electro-industrial sci-fi vibe. 'Meteorite' offers glitchy beats. Familiar tracks like 'Bird', 'Blotter', and 'Greenhouse Gasses' provide accessible listening, albeit experimental. 'Music For Cats' is gritty and against the grain, yet melodic. While not mainstream, it's an intriguing, well-crafted release, appealing to experimental electronic enthusiasts and completists alike.

Review: We often celebrate when a record turns ten or 20 years young and still warrants the same attention it did upon official release. Here we have the tenth studio album from Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band, which has hit the big 4-5, and remains as groundbreaking as ever. Unpacking that presents two major points - the record was well, well ahead of its time, and the artists involved were still full of incredible ideas ten records into their catalogue. In short, this collection is formidable. If this is your first encounter with El Capitan et al then, firstly, where have you been? Scolding aside, raw blues rock & roll energy radiates from the album, with distinctly psychedelic, absurdist, free jazz elements that create a constant air of expecting the unexpected. Even if you've been listening to these songs for the last 45 years.

He worked with the Wynton Kelly Trio back in the mid-sixties and that is when he played a set at the famed Half Note jazz club in New York City with drummer Jimmy Cobb and bassists Paul Chambers, Ron Carter, Herman Wright and Larry Ridley. The show was more than two horns long and was for radio broadcast and now it has been remastered for this triple album Maximum Swing: The Unissued 1965 Half Note Recordings. A booklet with new essays and interviews adds extra context to a classic album.

Review: It is now a full three decades since Australian industrial trio Snog debuted with their still brilliant album Lies Inc on Machinery Records. To mark the occasion it gets a special 30th anniversary remastering and reissue on purple vinyl courtesy of Metropolis with all new artwork. Interestingly, not only is the searing, sarcastic, nihilistic electro contained within still relevant these days, but so too are the anti-establishment references in the track title from 'Corporate Slave' to 'Control' and 'Bank.' Some of those became rather unlikely global hits back in the day and their dark sense of humour and body poling rhythms will make just as much impact again now.

Review: Steven Stapleton is Nurse With Wound. Originally a band, sometimes abbreviated to NWW, since 1978 the English act has explored a range of dark and brooding styles, including industrial, dark ambient, drone, and noise. Well known for sound collages - usually pretty intense in nature - influences come from the dada and surrealist art schools, cabaret music, John Cage, The Beach Boys, Krautrock, and Musique Concrete. She & Me Fall Together In Free Death is, in this instance at least, the highly anticipated reissue of the landmark album which proved just how good NWW is at all forms of song craft. Work here edges into the eerier end of Liars collaborating with Tom Waits' at his most experimental and that's really clutching for reference points. Quite unlike anything else you'll buy today, we promise.

Review: The eleventh studio album by prolific American rock band Pearl Jam, Gigaton was originally released in March 2020 and sold out almost instantly. Now getting a re-run on US label Monkeywrench, fans have a second chance at adding this standout release to their collection. Typical of Pearl Jam this release features inventive instrumentation such as the 1850s-era pump organ originally played by Vedder on the 2015 demo of 'River Cross'. Featuring popular singles 'Dance of the Clairvoyants', 'Superblood Wolfmoon' and 'Quick Escape', Gigaton was undoubtedly well worth the six and half year wait. Definitely one you'll need to grab before it's gone.

Review: Evand Dando and co broke through to the mainstream with the sublime, sunny songwriting of 1992's It's A Shame About Ray, then managed to sustain their time at the top the following year with the Slade-referencing Come On Feel The Lemonheads. It's an altogether bigger and superfically impressive prospect, with guests like Rick James and Belinda Carlisle making the contributors' list and a production job from The Robb Brothers which elevates it beyond the slacker rock tag they'd had until the is point. It also spawned their biggest ever single - 'Into Your Arms' - and a host of other chart successes, including the excellent anthem 'Big Gay Heart', which saw them neatly distancing themselves from the jock rock category that other contemporaries like Nirvana quickly found themeslves slipping into.

Review: The mighty Hospital Records is reissuing Green Graves, a classic album from Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement from back in 2016. It's an album that, as the title suggests, soundtracks a trip through the jungle with steamy pads and humid atmospheres, distant animal sounds and deep tribal rhythms. It's full of ambient and experimental mystery and intrigue, with suspenseful pads over barely-there skeletal drums that snake through the undergrowth on cuts like 'Red Protection Against Black Magic'. 'Nocturnal Anatomy' is darker and more dubby, hitting at the arrival of humans and their machines who come to destroy the forest.

It is packed with refined sounds mastered by the maestro Stefano Amerio and features Older on piano next to Yuri Goloubev on double bass and Mauro Beggio on drums. The sounds flow freely, the pianos are quick and lively as fingers dart about the keys and the constant ticking of the drums and weight of the double bass keep things rooted in the here and now. A sublime sound for sure.

Born Sinner was released a full decade ago now and peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200. It ha since been certified double platinum and now arrives as a limited edition red vinyl version featuring all the original tracks. Many of them are standouts - there are bumpy joints like 'Land Of The Snakes', darker pieces like 'She Knows' (feat Amber Coffman) and of course the minimal Wu-Tang style funk of 'Forbidden Fruit' featuring Kendrick Lemar.

Cuss Cuss (version) (2:51)
Review: 'Cuss Cuss' comes all the way from 1960 and is the most celebrated and well known tune from the man born Lloyd Altamont Thomas Robinson. He was a dancehall don who died a decade ago but not before releasing some 50 odd singles and EPs. 'Cuss Cuss' is devastatingly short and deals - a dark vibe pervades the deeply burrowed bass and the vocals are the sound of him making a plea for bad vibes to leave his life. On the flip side here is a version that is more lo-fi, stripped back and deep - as if playing from the room next door, almost.

They have a wide array of sounds and skills between them and put them to good use on their second album Enigmatic Society, which is presented here as a Japanese Edition on milk-clear white vinyl with the requisite obi-strip. This is super smooth material that mixes up hip hop, new soul, jazz and plenty of great samples to make for a laidback and romantic record full of lovely vocals from the likes of Phoenix, Orin Ray and Ant Clemens.

Review: In the mid-80s, Svitlana Okhrimenko, Oleksandr Kohanovs'kyi, and Tamila Mazur, students at the Reinhold Glier Kyiv Academy of Music, formed the foundation of Cukor Bila Smert. Their blend of music and camaraderie led to the addition of Eugene Taran, who further helped shape the band's vision. Dubbed Sugar - White Death, their ironic moniker challenged media sensationalism and amidst endless musical exploration, they crafted two albums in 1988 and 1989. The band's unique "sugar calypso sound" emerged, a blend of Kohanovs'kyi's music and lyrics by Okhrimenko and Taran. A significant studio session in 1990 yielded tracks featured on the Mannered Music compilation which sparked international interest. Their journey concluded in 1993 with the release of "Selo" by Koka Records, and now some of the best bits make it onto this new collection.

They are a virtuoso collective who drop the first two of the three, Moonlight Echoes and Starlight Reflections, on the same day at the end of December while the third, Pure, comes in early spring. This album is another masterful mix of romantic jazz sounds, gentle tinkling piano keys and sublime sophisticated lunge sounds that allow the mind to wander up amongst the stars. Lovely stuff for lovers of all forms of jazz.

It's a musical mix of Afro-Cuban rhythms, New York horns and plenty more.

Review: It's astounding to think that Mother 2 was released in 1994. A landmark moment for the SNES video game system, it arrived five years after its predecessor, and as such enjoyed the benefits of what was then a next generation platform. Felt in terms of graphical and gameplay capabilities, suffice to say the upgraded hardware was also capable of capturing much more engaging and imaginative music. Here we are, almost 30 years on from when this sequel first captivated people, and the score itself gets a re-release on vinyl. Again drafting Hirokazu Tanaka and Keiichi Suzuki as composers, the pair would later explain how much more freedom they had due to the technological progress made between this and its predecessor. Translated into a music review, think deep, atmospheric ambient constructed from many layers of sound. A futuristic sonic trip into the far reaches of the cosmos that still holds up within the genre today.

Review: Talk about taking your sweet time. Anyone want to hazard a guess at how long Blinking Lights & Other Revelations took to finish? Thought not. In truth, Eels started work on it in 1998, but it wouldn't see the light of day until 2005. Marking the start of a new era for the band, contractually at least - their deal with David Geffen and Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks Records having dissolved the previous year - the album was high concept, too.
As per frontman E, writing on the band's official website at the time of Blinking Lights' release, the record is about "God and all the questions relating to the subject of God." Suddenly the extended production period makes sense. Then you see it has 33 tracks listed on the sleeve and it all becomes clear. A classic piece of alternative rock with big, bold ideas, it should always be remembered as one of the first landmarks to come from America this millennium.

Review: Queen's The Works in Concert is a powerful and legendary capture of one of the best pop-rock bands this country has ever produced. It was a show that was broadcast by Queen when they were performing in concert in May of 1985 at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium, Japan. It does across six sides of marbled vinyl and takes in every one of the band's hits you would hope, from the ice-cold 'Under Pressure' to the menacing 'Another One Bites the Dust.' Then there is the theatrical masterpiece that is 'Bohemian Rhapsody', the playfulness of 'Radio Ga Ga' and the ode to empowerment that is 'I Want To Break Free.'

Review: Finding out that 8 Mile is two decades old is astounding. Take it in, breathe, then decide what to do with that information. Rewind back to 2003, and life was very, very different - not least as Eminem was still considered a young upstart who needed to prove some stuff to the hip hop establishment, with the movie in question going some way to retelling his own story about going up against haters and coming out on top.
Of course, he was already one of the biggest rap artists on the planet by this point, but still fell in line for criticism over the juvenile nature of many tracks. Amalgamating some of the most respected MCs on one track list - all of who evidently give a seal of approval by contributing to this soundtrack - is certainly one way to prove legitimacy. Nas, 50 Cent, Rakim, Gang Starr, and Jay-Z help make this one of the genre's finest scores of all time.

Review: Goodge is back with more deep and pressing funk sounds, this time with his Echoes of yesterday long player. As the title suggests, it finds him offering up a view on music's past influences at the same time as showing off his genuine respect for what has gone before. Across the 12 tracks, he goes into lush late night and jazzed up sound worlds where melodies lodge themselves deep in your brain and the funky drums keep you moving. It's an expansive world of emotion and a superb showcase of the artists ability to transcend time and space with his take on the roots of the sounds.

Review: Laid Back is a duo that first formed in the late 70s. All these years and several hits (think 'Bakerman', 'Sunshine Reggae' and 'White Horse') and the duo is still making sublime grooves in their studio in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. With a worldwide reputation for super horizontal sounds that draw on soul, yacht rock, Balearic and downtempo they have dropped albums like Cosyland, the chill out classic Cosmic Vibes, 2013's double album Uptimistic Music and of course the now almost 45 year old Healing Feeling. In 2023 they return with Road to Fame, another sublime collection of tunes that sink you in deep to the sofa or the sun bed with great songwriting and dreamy hooks.
